Cathlete
Good morning,

Well we did not have a day yesterday. I messed up her morning run, and later, she was fixated on the dog that was ahead of us, she wanted to chase him so badly. She did the first 2 obstacles, then ran to the other side of the ring looking for that dog. She had some kind of prey drive thing going on. I never saw her this bad. Usually I can distract her with food etc, or when the other dog is no longer in her sight, but not today...oh well, three's always another trial!

Valerie, that is sad about your dog, but he had a good life, getting out and hiking etc, Most dogs do not have that kind of chance to get outdoors in woods etc. Best Buy was the best deal on the FitBit, and we liked that if there was an issue ( which there was) we could go right back to them. As for pictures, since Cathe updated the forum, you are not supposed to have to use an outside program like Picture Trail, but for some reason, I have trouble posting pics here...they always say they are too large to post... I will try with Picture Trail again and see how it goes...

Caitlin, now that you mentioned it, I remembered the VO Max test. Will have to check out Heart Rate Monitors USA ...are they a more reliable source?

Diane Sue, I need to check my Polar to see if it has that function. So once you lie down, then what do you do? The step ups like Caitlin mentioned? That is a lot of interesting information on essential oils. The only thing I ever tried with them was using lavender oil under a pillow to help sleep. It was long ago and I don't remember if it helped or not.

Hi to Josie, Lynda, Lori and Judy,

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

A workout, then back to the arena, ( just working today, no dog)...

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Deb...I did a modified version of Scrambled Cardio and Weights yesterday. My knee is still not 100% so I did not want to go full out. I used only one riser for the metabolic portions and did all the step blasts (there is no choreography) off the step to keep it lower impact. Was very easy to do the blasts using no step and I felt I was still doing the workout right along everyone else. I would like doing it this way again. I needed to shorten the workout due to time and did not do the last blast. Workout is over 50 minutes and I did 43 minutes. Even though I did a lower impact and a shorter version, I still burnt 350 calories. So to me this was great! Great pictures. Kylee is adorable but I guess she was just not in the mood!

Diane Sue...thanks so much for the oil info. I will look into those sites. I use Fractionated Coconut Oil as a carrier with the Rosehip and I like it alot. I have been reading the reviews on Amazon and agree you need to becareful.

Caitlin! Ok I understand about your knee. Yes agree you are lucky it did not tear. My knee has been bugging me off and on the past couple of weeks. Must have done something on my TM. Really hoping if I take it easy it will heal. Keeping my fingrs crossed.

No plans today. Just a lazy day. Chelsie is coming over later this evening to watch GOT on our movie screen. Bob will not. He is going to bed early since he is a working man now. :)

Rest day and family day. Today is my son's birthday.

Deb, thanks for the pictures. Your hard work shows and Kyle is so cute.

nick, I really hope it heals. 20 years ago, I was running outside downhill, and my knee went out of its socket. I was married then, so I could afford the best chiropractor on Staten Island, and he was also my coach for races and the NYC marathon. That was before this idiot doctor who lost his license told me I should have breast implants. I said okay make me a C cup and that is it. I had nursed both my kids extensively so I was very flabby. He deserved to lose his license, as he made me too big a double D, and now I have back problems, herniated and bulging from my neck to my waist. I am divorced now, and the economy is not that good, so I do take pain killers. My doctor was giving me percs, but the pharmacy told me they were having trouble getting them. I never took them every day, and I never became addicted. I probably will have to go down to vicodin now. I would rather handle it with the chiropractor and deep tissue massage, but I can't afford that now. I am only doing my upper body with weights today, as my back is bothering me so much.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ICE Metabolic (48:53). Once again, problems with streaming. I wanted to do PHA.

Deb, thanks for the pictures! I wonder what got into Kylee. What kind of dog was she so interested in?

Lori, sometimes you don't even know when you tear something in your knee. That was true for Kim and he didn't know he had a torn meniscus until the flap would slip into his knee and cause immediate intense pain. Then the flap would slip out again and he would be okay for awhile---until the next time. Finally he goes to an orthopedic surgeon and gets an MRI showing the tear clearly. I hope it's just a sore muscle and everything heals. I will try that new LIVE workout tomorrow and if it does not work, I think I will cancel my LIVE subscription. Too many problems lately with it and not with Netflix or Amazon Prime. Looking forward to GOT tonight. Only a couple more episodes. EW says the title for the final episode is Battle of the Bastards so we know what's coming: Jon vs. Ramsay.

Fascinating documentary on O.J. Simpson started last night on ABC and ESPN. A lot of footage of him when he was at USC and with the Bills. He really was an extraordinary football player and runner in his youth.

Diane Sue, we found a really nice place to board Max. He hated being at the vet's place and didn't get enough exercise when we left him there, even if we paid for extra play time.

Caitlin, that must have been very painful. I know, because that has happened to me a couple times, and I had to have an orthopedic surgeon drain my knee from all the swelling. I wouldn't go to a chiropractor, because IMO they are quacks (sorry if that offends anyone, but I thought my chiropractor BIL was partially responsible for one of my sister's deaths because he took her off her blood pressure medication and she had a massive stroke).

The news today out of FL is awful. It sounds like it was triggered by seeing two gay men kissing in front of this man's wife and children. 50 dead and more than 50 in the hospital. This will no doubt lead to more anti-Islamic phobia.

Sorry to end that way, but sometimes the news just ruins my mood.

we are going on a short trip so I won't post for a couple days.

just did bi's, tris, core 1, and 20 on the treadmill. I had a torn meniscus too, but it didn't hurt, my knee would just unexpectedly give out occasionally. got it fixed along with the "gone" ACL. fine ever since. if meniscal tissue is torn, it can get caught in the normal mechanisms of the knee and cause problems. I would not hesitate to get it fixed again if I needed it.

Lynda, I think chiropractors get into trouble when they step beyond their training. I have never gone to one and likely never will.

another awful shooting..... so pointless and endless. I'm waiting for the NRA or their ilk to start saying how much better it would be if only a few people in the nightclub were armed and could have shot back... so depressing.

Deb- I love the photos of Kylee! The Swedish vallhund is a pretty cute dog too. It reminds me of a Corgi.

I tried to post a link to the Freezie Wrap this morning with my tablet and the link kept taking me to a plastic surgery site. I am trying again.
http://www.mendmeshop.com/cold-compression-wrap.php?xid=fd4072a841b5b9bc781bc3eaf2fb1e14

Caitlin, I am sorry that you have had so many tough things to deal with in life. That is good that you did not take the pain meds daily. Having to cope with pain all of the time it not something easy to deal with.

Lynda, there is a woman in our neighborhood that advertises in the neighborhood association letter that does dog sitting. I kind of took note of that, but I hope that I never need to do that. Why would a chiropractor tell someone to stop their blood pressure medicine. I would have thought that would be handled by her doctor. You don't mess with something like that.

Valerie, my son in law had his torn meniscus repaired too. He was back to work in 2 weeks and has not had much of a problem with it since. My daughter tried to encourage me to come to Oklahoma City for the surgery and I should have listened. I knew most of the people drove distance to Stillwater Oklahoma to get the surgery done rather than Ponca City which is smaller and their surgeons mostly had bad reputations. The one I chose had good and bad reviews. He told me it would mend fast but 2 1/2 months later I still had pain and that is when he gave me a steroid injection and said come back if I needed another. I never went back. It gives out sometimes still, I usually am careful when I get up from sitting for any length of time because my knee may give out a bit. I know some of it is the arthritis but I do not know why I have to be so gentle with it. He said it was a small tear and it was in the area that can normally heal because blood can get to it. I did have a bakers cyst and I do not think he did anything with that.

Deb, I could see that dog being a distraction :) I have never seen that breed.

Good morning,

Well another trial wrapped up. It was probably the first one we have done with so many issues, right from the start. The arena was not cleaned since our trial in April. Apparently when we opened it on Thursday to unload and set up, there were feathers and bird poop all over the place, birds had been trapped in there. There was even a dead one we had to dispose of. Ugh. One of the judges didn't make it, on time Friday, her plane in Dallas could not take off because the windshield was cracked...she had to go to Newark and stay the night...She got to Buffalo on Friday, 2 hours into the trial....everything was late late...Just when we thought we could finally be done, when we were starting to tear down the equipment, the woman that has the "Worker Herder" job went into the kitchen and collapsed. We had to call 911 and the EMT's took her to the hospital. Not sure what happened to her as of yet.

Lori, Good workout, and glad you could modify and still get a great calorie burn. I will put that Live workout down to try on a cardio day. No Kylee was in the mood to chase that dang little dog who had the nerve to bark all the while he was running! :). Like Diane Sue said, not sure what a chiropractor would be doing telling someone to stop blood pressure meds...I hope that person is no longer practicing.

Caitlin, that is awful that you cannot get what works for your back. Do you have any type of health care? If you rest and only walk etc does it feel better?

Lynda, the incident in Florida was so horrible. those poor people. ..I heard they thought t was set off by the guy seeing 2 men kissing...this is what his father tried to say it was, but apparently he made some 911 call or something, indicating he has been following some Islamic terrorist group which ended up taking credit for it. As for the streaming, I have contacted Cathe support people and they always try to help. It would be a shame if you had to give it up. Maybe your son has some ideas on why it would all of a sudden give you trouble? I don't see much difference with the Low Quality version....maybe a tiny bit blurred, but not enough to bother me. I am not staring at the screen all the time like you would do if you were watching a movie so it works for me.

Valerie, I agree on the chiropractors and them going beyond what they were trained to do...yes a horrible shooting and although we believe it was pointless, he had an agenda and his own point to make. If anyone else to blame I think the FBI who had him investigated multiple times for terrorist activity, and closing the case. They should have these people on a database somewhere...like the TSA or Homeland Security does...Not a popular thought, and I don't want to start anything or get political here, but I have to think...if one person could have stopped this guy before he killed 50 and wounded 53, would that have been so bad? .

Diane Sue, that is too bad that your surgeon was not good...I guess you can never be sure what will happen no matter who you go to. I have a Bakers Cyst as well, but for now, nothing happens with it. Our dogs have never been in a kennel and I hope never have to. Our friends that take care of them when we go away are getting up in years and one of these days they may tell us that they can't do it any longer...I don't know what I will do if that happens.

Judy, yes, those dogs do look like Corgi's...Kylee only wants to chase dogs that are smaller for some reason and ones that are nervous and crazy, or bark a lot, which this one did.

Hi to Josie,

A workout, lots of HouseMax, and late class tonight,

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I did the kickboxing only portion of the 100th workout followed up with SB sculpting. Was about 50 minutes. I used both HR monitors and throughout the workout the HR's were either spot on or way off! My apple watch at one point had my HR at 207! Yikes! While at the same time my polar was reading 158. Today I am doing 2 SB workouts. Both are a cardio barre.

Diane Sue...thanks for the link on the freeze wraps. Not sure what is going on with my knee. Going to give it a little more time and then we'll see. All this talk about torn meniscus is making me nervous. Hoping it is not.

Lynda...oh no cancel Live? I hope it all works out for you. I wonder what is going on? I know you mentioned you do not have a problem with other streaming sites. I am fortunate with no isses. Once in a while but for the most part all works well. I liked GOT but still needing more action. Next week's looks like it will all come together!

Valerie...have a great trip!

The Florida shooting is so sad. I have been watching the news and I am crying. Can't imagine not knowing if your son, daughter or loved one is dead or alive. Still at this point a couple dozen victims in the hospital have not been identified. This is so sad.

Hi Everyone,

Saturday was a rest day and yesterday I did 4 DS Legs & Muscle Meltdown Triceps.

Deb-I'm sorry there were so many issues at the trial. I hope the woman that collapsed will be ok. That sounds like a very stressful day for all involved. I agree with your thoughts about the horrible shootings in Florida.

Valerie-hope you have a good trip!

Lynda-I'm sorry about your streaming problem, I hope you don't have to cancel Cathe Live. That is horrible that a chiropractor would tell someone to stop taking any medication. That sounds like criminal malpractice. I've gone to chiropractors since I was in high school, but only for adjustments and physical therapy for sports related issues. I would never take medical advice from one nor would I ask them about a medical issue.

Lori-I've noticed that with the Apple watch heart rate too. I agree, the Florida shooting is so sad :( My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

Caitlin-I'm sorry about your back :( That knee injury sounds very painful too. Running downhill can be very stressful on the joints. I used to run in an area with a lot of long hills and I found that running downhill was harder on my legs than running uphill

Hi to Diane Sue & Josie!

Judy

Hi everyone--

No luck again on the streaming, so I did the ICE Sweat workouts (46:13). Kim wants to have his tech guy check it before I cancel, so I guess I will have one more month of Live. I just don't want to start something and then be forced to switch because the dang thing ain't working--all kinds of interruptions in reception.

Deb, I have never seen that breed of dog either. I don't know much about dog etiquette at a trial, but if the dog is constantly barking I would hope the owner would know how distracting it might be for other dogs. It sounds like the trial was a trial in and of itself with all those issues. I will try the lower quality streaming tomorrow and see if it's any better.

Lori, I really wanted to try that scrambled cardio and weights workout! It sounded like you enjoyed it. I hope your knee is feeling better. I think we have two more episodes of GOT before another hiatus. I am enjoying the return of the Hound and wonder if he might be linked again to Arya. I also loved Cersei's line, "I choose violence." Cracked me up.

Judy, my chiropractor BIL always used Dr. before his name. He must be retired now. I don't know and I no longer care. My sister didn't like the side effects of her blood pressure medication and he seemed to think neck massages and manipulations would solve her problem. Infuriated me! She was only 44 when she had a sub-arachnoid hemorrhage that filled her brain with blood. She quite literally dropped dead.

Where did summer go? It's barely 60 degrees here and yesterday was gale force winds. My peonies are just starting to bloom. Last year I think they were already over. Weird.

Hello to the wonderful ladies.

I could not get a single lower body DVD to work so it was getting very late, so I did it freestyle.

Today I did 21 Day Fix Extreme Plyo , 31 minutes, 204 calories, 119 avg/153 max heart rate. I then did 21 Day Fix Extreme Pilates, 33 minutes, 130 calories. I decided since this was lower body and pilates extreme had a lot of core and lower body that I would ad some lower to it. I did the bonus chair work from Great Glutes using a 10# dumbbell, 7 minutes, 22 calories, and Lean Legs and Abs chair and firewalker and bonus chair no warm up, 33 minutes, 98 calories. I used a 10# dumbbell and a medium strength firewalker band, also used a 3# ankle weight above my knee for the barre work. I think I could have used 5# for this. I spent a lot of time going over moves that help and moves that hurt knees and it was suggested to do some of those moves with the ankle weight above the knee. It worked fine this way. I was surprised at how many moves we normally do in yoga and stretching that can hurt the knees. Basically most things that turn the knee at a different angle. Even the stance where one foot is back and at an angle and the other forward for warrior poses is not a good one. They suggest you point both feet forward. Then step ups is a good move to do. I bookmarked a couple of things to go back to. Total time today ended up being 1 hour 44 minutes, 452 calories.

Deb, have you heard how the woman is doing that collapsed is doing? I am sorry the trial was so much chaos. I always wondered how someone could get their dog to not notice the other dogs. Gertie notices when we go for a walk and she really wants to go see those other dogs. I would think mostly to play. She is a different temperament than Mudd was. Mudd would go after the dogs and chase them out of her territory before she thought to come back. I always hated when she would escape because she would not come. I had to go out of sight and she would come back when I was not longer in view. I worked hard with Gertie on the coming when I call her. She is good at hand signals too. So far I have never had her chase a dog. When my daughter's dog is here she plays with her till they make me crazy. It is like you have too rowdy kids playing. You make them stop and the other one is over there like they are saying come on, you know you want to play :)

Lorie, your Apple watch sounds like my Polar HR 7. Polar sent me an email asking me to review how their recent service was. I told them what I thought and asked them to contact me again. It has been a week and I have heard nothing. I sometimes would show 228 HR and then it would drop to 175 or something ridiculous when I would be standing there doing nothing. Right now I am on a roll with the FT60 working. It sometimes chooses to go way off on the HR but it has been awhile since that has happened.
It could be many things with the knee. Maybe it is just strained from a twist or turn that aggravated it. It takes several weeks to rehabilitate even smaller injuries from what I have read.

Judy, that looks like a good weight workout combo. My heart goes out to the victims and their families too.

Lynda, sometimes I had to use the low quality to get the streaming to work. Also I noticed that while I was streaming. as soon as my husband turned on the television and his computer downstairs it would start breaking up and buffering. This was after I put all other devices out of the room. I figure it was probably because my husband is usually streaming downstairs television at the same time.

Caitlin, sorry the dvd's were not working for you. Is it your player? At least you figured out a way to do a workout.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, resting up from the weekend. The woman that collapsed is fine, she went home as soon as the trial superintendent and crew were packed, they picked her up on the way back to PA. Not sure what it was. I did hear that her blood pressure was really low...so maybe that caused it.

Lori, I can see where you would be shocked with that HR reading! I hope your knee just needs a rest. Does it hurt at all when you do other workouts besides running?

Judy, great workouts, love the weight work from the 4DS series.

Lynda, I sure hope you are able to keep the Live workouts....it could be your internet service...once in a while I can't even get the Live to open a workout...I get an error about the network connection...I wait a couple of seconds and try again and it works. Unfortunately, in Agility, dogs that bark are not penalized etc. It's all about the run and how they do...now in Obedience, if a dog barks more that a couple of times in the ring, they are disqualified.

Caitlin, that is strange that you could not get your DVD's to work...what causes that?

Diane Sue, good workouts! I never knew there was a bonus chair workout in any of those...mm...interesting. I like the idea of the ankle weight used above the knee....I don't think my 2.5 one would go around my leg though...LOL. That is really scary about Mudd escaping....lucky you had a way to get her back. I think that from going to classes since the dogs were young puppies, they are pretty used to having dogs around. At a trial they are walking through crowds of dogs and people and you just have to really be mindful of the other dogs and make sure there is no reactions...sometimes some dogs will react a bit, but the majority of owners know their dogs and keep them tethered tight when walking through a crowd.

Hi to Josie & Valerie,

Taking John's car in for a recall notice this morning, and maybe haircut/color...did not get in yesterday,

Take care,

we're back, things didn't go too smoothly this time. DH keeps getting nosebleeds. not "life threatening" or anything but inconvenient. he's had some small blood vessels cauterized twice now, the last about 2 weeks ago. got up Monday morning and had a bleed before doing anything. made us uncomfortable doing anything strenuous. we did some lightweight stuff, and then drove home. the weather was deteriorating as predicted , and today was the bad weather day on both sides of the mountains. the best time for the area we went is april / may and flowers were mostly burned out anyway. hopefully he can get his doc to take a look at it today. we did a easy walk and an easy ride and saw some cool birds so not a total loss.

Lynda that is so sad about your sister. many chiropractors and naturopaths arrogantly think they know more than they do, and can cause serious problems. it can take a a bit of tweaking to get a combination of BP meds to work without causing unpleasant side effects. DH is on a several meds and has had his share of problems. I understand trying to avoid medicine and trying "non medical measures" but some people can't succeed that way.

Many times my Polar HRM give me funny, impossible readings, usually it calibrates back to reasonable numbers in a short time . "220" quickly drops to 110 or 120. I can usually say what my heart rate is just by how I feel, and use the HRM to confirm it.

http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/tex_mex_black_bean_quinoa_bowl.html another quinoa based recipe I like a lot. you can use different cheese, like feta, or add some chicken. when we 're camping, this can all be precooked, and parts put together for a great dinner with zero cooking. nice on top of corn chips too.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Live PHA Training (52 min.).

Diane Sue, I think you might have insight into my streaming problems. When my husband has his computer off, I have no problems--like this morning. We will be testing this theory with the tech guy, but also tomorrow when my husband will be off getting his hair cut and not on the computer. I liked LL and GG and used them a lot. My Maxie loves playing with other dogs too.

Deb, yes, I think low blood pressure may lead to fainting. Good to hear it wasn't something serious. One of the recommended exercises if you are seated for long periods is to raise your leg straight up to waist level and hold it up for as long as you can, then do the other one. I do this and can't imagine having a weight above my knee as well. I am thinking about getting a standing desk so I don't spend so much time seated while working at the computer.

Valerie, yes, it was very sad and terribly sudden to lose my sister. She had a brain aneurysm in her 30s that they fixed and she also suffered from migraines. I had some problems with nosebleeds a few years ago and the cauterization worked. I had been blowing my nose too hard. Now if I get really stuffed up, I use neosynephrine instead of blowing too hard.

Hi to Judy, Josie, Lori, and Caitlin!

Hello Diane Sue, the DVD player was fine today, and I did some high impact floor and my upper body. The entire thing was only 90 minutes, and I did not even burn that much only 200 calories. This is rather funny, but some of my regular clients are saying to me: "How do you stay so skinny?" Hello to all you wonderful ladies. My day is slow today, so I am going to try to read more of this forum. I am icing my right knee now, and I picked up my pain killers yesterday. My friend and neighbor Bill was feeling sick, so I missed Confession and The Healing Mass. I am obsessed with Game of Thrones, and George R. R. Martin wrote the first book in 1996, and it was then I read it.

I am still here reading, and I am trying to get to the older replies. I used to post here with this forum for those with physical problems and how to deal with them. I consider myself very lucky.

Thank you so much for the great photos, and I really like them.
