Good morning,

Still raining...I don't think we have had so much rain without stopping that I can remember.

Diane Sue, are these the outside painters? What colors did you decide on for that? Thanks for the mayo recipe. I never thought about the egg not being cooked. So just put it in water, let heat until just starting to bubble is the same as it being cooked? Is the kombucha tea you buy loose or bags? I have read that it is good for you but forgot why..:)

Valerie, yes an ark....like Noah's? with the rain? LOL...

Carolyn, avocado oil with apple cider vinegar, mustard and honey sounds great too!

Caitlin, it sounds like a great trip to NYC!

I have one of those horrible house parties to go to today...this one is for handmade painted scarves....I am sure they are lovely, but not something I think I would ever buy...I hope I don't feel guilty enough to buy one.

Take care,

Oh too funny !! You spelled it arc at first and I didn't make the obvious connection. We had over 4 feet of rain for a record winter/spring. Loads of snow in the mountains ..... it will be a late year for hiking as it's still cold and wet so not going away quickly.

We did a load of garden work after I did groceries in the morning Planted the rest of it. Our new walls make it look better and are a nice flat work surface too. Blasted weeds with my dragon flamethrower That was the workout.

My current favorite vinaigrette has those ingredients .....2 TB olive oil 1.5 TB cider vinegar 2tsp maple syrup 1 tsp Dijon 1/2 tsp salt 1TB diced shallot or red onion. Shake and toss on salad greens. It's an Ellie Krieger recipe . Simple and easy to toss together.

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I did Cathe Live Quick Cadio Fix from this past Thursday. I liked it, short but really gets the HR up there. I had my 1.5 ankle weights on since I was going to be doing a couple of SB targets from her DVD to make it a total body day. Did arms and abs and then thigh. I used 3lb weights for the arms and that was plenty. Love light weight high reps! Was feeling the burn. In this arm target we do pull ups using the trampoline bar. I always feel so strong doing these. :)

We have had a ton of rain too and there is still more to come. The sun did make an appearance in the early evening and still out now so we will see how long this lasts.

I am still finding ticks on GiGi. We have pulled 3 off in the past couple of days and they were latched on. What brand of tick medicine does everyone use? We have been using Advantage II thinking this was a good brand. Thoughts?

Deb...I am one of those people that always feels I need to buy something when I go to one of those house parties. Never heard of the painted scarves. If I do I will make sure I am unavailable that night!! Lol!!

Yes...very proud of my son and that he went back and got this done. After graduation he is moving back for a bit. I think I have mentioned this. I have lost my workout room! I pretty much have brought most of my things upstairs into a small, but adequate, room which is off the kitchen. It has always been considered "my space". So it works. I need to find a spot for my heavy bag and battle ropes. I may just bring the bag up and not worry how it looks! If people visit and don't like, oh well, don't visit! Lol! Not sure what I can do with my ropes. I may bring them into my screened in patio so I can use them. They are such an intense upper body and core workout. You get so much bang for little time using these.

Have a great day all..A workout then walk GiGi to enjoy this little bit of sunshine!

Today is my rest day and I am taking it easy. I'm catching up on Designated Survivor episodes this afternoon.

I made the broccoli and apple salad for tonight's dinner. I used the lite mayonnaise, fat free Greek yogurt, and honey but I decided that it needed more zing after it had chilled for a while. I thinned the dressing with some apple cider vinegar and I think it is just right now.

Have a great afternoon everyone.

Lori I would call your regular vet tomorrow and ask what he/she recommends. a vet will know what product works best in your area. If you are finding ticks on Gigi after this long, she must be getting more from your yard or wherever she routinely spends time. ticks latch on in somewhere round 24 hours, proceed to suck a blood meal from you/your doggie, then drop off after they are filled with blood. there are several different kinds of ticks.... so I'm guessing here , but I think Gigi is picking up "new" ticks from somewhere close by. the ones from the hike must be long gone. Make sure the vet knows you have cats, because at least some of the tick preventive meds are extremely toxic to cats... like the chemical permethrin I've been talking about spraying onto clothing. when permethrin is wet .... it is toxic to cats, OK after it is dry. I use it outside when our cat is inside. let the garments dry outside. I am very careful!
the bottom line is, fleas and ticks are not simple! ticks have different forms and sizes during different parts of their life cycles, and different animals serve as "intermediate hosts". people, dogs, deer, rodents are potential "hosts". same with fleas. there are variations in kind of tick and what chemicals are effective. evolution in action here... things that worked a few years ago may not work today.

exercise... today we rode our road bikes from home thru our neighborhood. it is hilly and was quite a workout.. not all that interesting though. we were either grunting uphill or flying down steep grades at 20+ mph. an hour and 5 minutes total. 10 miles. harder than it sounds.

Rest day today. I went to my daughter's for brunch and it was so beautiful we ate outside and watched the kiddos play. My husband stayed with the painters. They are doing a great job. They caulked the area over the sun room that sometimes leaks. I was pleased with that.

Deb, yes the outside painters. We talked about two colors but just stuck with one. It is lighter than what we had before and I think it looks nice with the red brick. It is Behr paint adobe sand. It looks like a light sand. We get rain and it is much needed, but when it rains day after day and flooding, it gets old quickly. I looked up how to pasteurize an egg and that is what it says to do. Just barely starting to form some bubbles. I guess it heats it enough to kill the bacteria. Sprouts carries pasteurized eggs but buying a whole dozen at 6.99 is ridiculous for the cost. Of course you can use them, but that is a lot. Kombucha tea is another way to get a lot of probiotics. Same as many fermented foods like sauerkraut. I buy it is bottles. Walmart sometimes carries the GT brand now. My favorite being Gingerade. To make it is best to use organic tea bags. I have two large gallon jugs that I use to make it. I put a cloth over it so it can breathe and wrap a rubber band around it. You sit it in a warm place. I usually do it in a closet.

Valerie, that salad dressing sounds very much like one that I used to make a lot from the original P90X book. It used balsamic vinegar though. I liked the shallots in it. That was a lot of rain for one year. Weeds are such a pain. My grandson cleaned out my front flower bed and raked it all up nice leaving only the upcoming morning glories. It looked nice for a week and a half and some weeds and grass are starting to pop in again. I have a lot of these little tree seedlings and am constantly pulling up little trees, even out of my flower pots with my roses.

Lori, nice workout. We have more rain expected later next week. I am hoping it stays with Wednesday and Thursday only. I have a Lularoe party to go to on Thursday and eye exam on Friday. My first eye exam in years. I thought I should take care of this before I get the Medicare going. I usually always use Frontline. This year the vet sells Frontline Gold. They did get me to try the Nextgard chewables but they made Gertie vomit so we went back to Frontline. They said last year that the flea and tick meds are not working as well as they have in the past. I have never used the Advantage product line.

Carolyn, I think the vinegar would be perfect. I thought it could use a bit of tang in the dressing. I ended up adding some extra salt to my dressing.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, just not feeling it. I ended up buying a scarf...( surprise!)...it is great, I was thinking of trying to do something decorative with it,

Valerie, that dressing recipe sounds good and really simple. That does sound like a tough bike ride!

Lori, great workouts! Our vet recommended Advantix for both fleas and ticks. You might find that Gigi tests positive for lyme when they do her heartworm test....make sure you ask them to look at the one for lyme.

Carolyn, when I make the salad, I will remember your hint on the apple cider vinegar for more "zing"...:).

Diane Sue, your house will look so nice when its done. We also have weeds that are "trees"...so hard to keep up with them. Can you buy the tea already made somewhere?

A workout...maybe KCM...something short...

Take care,

Deb yes, the tea comes in different brranda. Usually in 16 ounce bottles. I usually get GT brand. Another was Dr Kombucha ha.

Diane sue I have seen 'kombucha" before but never looked closely because I generally don't like tea. what is it? I did not get onto the bandwagon with smoothies either. I don't think "drink" calories do anything. I need to chew things. sauerkraut is another food I don't like. again, the smell. and memories. my grandmother used to make it at home, and I could smell it from 4 houses away. I really didn't like German food! so funny, no nostalgia for childhood foods here. I know sauerkraut has a comeback, along with the Korean kim chee. I've thought about trying kim chee because of the heat but wow, its expensive. I know DH wouldn't eat it because of the heat. I'd taste it if we ever go to a Korean restaurant.
even when you look online, companies suggest checking locally about flea and tick meds. I've used Revolution for quite a few years but sometimes I get a flea bite now and I didn't in the past. I am very allergic to flea bites unfortunately. Lori I hope they have suggestions for you.
The Ellie Krieger vinaigrette is simple. I use a small screw top jars. dump together, cover, shake and it's ready. it will separate as it stands but I like the little pieces of shallot so don't use a blender.

Today I did ICE Rock'm Sock'm Kickboxing and Icy Core 1. Whenever I do one of the ICE workouts I am reminded of what I like about them. They are hard enough to give a good workout but they don't leave me exhausted. With the premixes there is enough variety to match my needs.

Diane Sue, I drink kombucha sometimes because I am trying to add more probiotic foods to my diet. I like the GTs brand. Like Valerie, I prefer to chew my calories. I tried kimchee, but I didn't care for it. Now I have a jar of sauerkraut that I eat occasionally.

Valerie, Ellie Krieger has a recipe in one of her cookbooks for a cabbage and green apple salad with a vinaigrette dressing. That's one reason that I think the broccoli salad will be good with a vinaigrette since the ingredients are similar.

Deb, I'm glad that you were able to enjoy the scarf party.

Hello to Lori, Judy, and Caitlin.

Today I did Kelly Coffey meltdown, 171 calories. I don't have all my stats because I accidentally paused the Fit Bit. Map My Fitness Kept going but it does not have the heart rate on it. That is one of the things I liked about the Polar app but cannot use it with my Fit Bit. I then did Hammer Build Up from Hammer and Chisel, 32 minutes, 141 calories. heart rate for Hammer Build was 105 avg. / max 138. Total time was 63 minutes, calories burned 312.

I am dragging today. The allergies have really kicked in. I spent yesterday afternoon sitting outside in my daughter's yard. I was miserable all night. I like to sit outside so it feels really unfair to have to be miserable for doing so.
I had to hit the the grocery stores today. I bought stuff to make some cherry cashew protein bars from Performance Paleo. They call for cricket flour and my granddaughter gave me some. She said they made some brownies with some of it at the university. I will try half a recipe though. They always look good buy I could never make myself purchase the cricket flour. I sprinkled some in my yogurt this morning with some bone broth protein and dried blueberries and honey. I couldn't taste it. I think it is more a mind set thing. It is supposed to have a lot of iron and B12 in it. I sort of laughed when I read the package and it said they were domesticated farmed crickets. That must be a noisy place. I tried a Chapul Cricket protein bar from Sprouts after seeing them on television once. I think because I chose one with cayenne pepper I did not like it so much. I probably will not go back out and buy cricket flour though. I have wondered if other protein could be used instead.

Valerie, I would say, kombucha does not have a real tea taste to me. I mainly like just the ginger ones. There was a raspberry ginger one in another brand that I liked. You have to have a Scoby to make it. Sort of like making sour dough and having a starter or acidophilus for yogurt. You brew the tea in a large pot with sugar in it. Then you let it cool and pour it into the jar with the scoby, cover it with a towel and let it sit for somewhere around 2 to 3 weeks. It will make another scoby. The first one is called the mother. You can reuse the mother so you store it and the new scoby in the refrigerator with a little of the tea till next batch. the bacteria eats the sugar. I guess sort of like wine making or something. It will develop a tang and is not very sweet. I find some is sweeter than others when I purchase though and some has a bit more natural carbonation to them. I purchased the Dr Kombucha recently and it was hardly any sweetness and also fizzed out all over my lap when I opened it in the car. I always strained mine when I made it so there were no bits of whatever in it when I put it in individual bottles. I have had it develop a bit of a vinegar taste before. I found it best to use organic black tea. I tried green tea before and it was just okay. I have looked at kim chi but never tried it. I like making my own sauerkraut with shredded carrots, some garlic, and jalapeno in it. It tastes great on The Buffalo Guys bison dogs. I have had that for breakfast or lunch before. It doesn't smell very good in the cabinet while it is souring though. Oh, and Kombucha does not have a whole lot of calories. I feel the same way about drinking the calories. Particularly when I tried a green smoothie challenge and decided I would really rather just eat my greens for the most part. I do use a greens powder in the mornings though.

Carolyn, I feel the same way about ice. It is difficult enough that I feel it is a good workout but I am not dying trying to push through something that is really hard. I know they are effective workouts as well. I don't care for the GT's Synergy kombucha much though. I think they must put more fruit juice or something in it. I do not like juice and fruit drinks all that much.

Hi Everyone,

Friday I did Lean Legs & Abs and a Jessica Smith walk. I had my record high for steps that day, almost 16,000. Saturday was a rest day, yesterday I did a 1 hour Spinerval and today I did Ramped Up Upper Body. I decided to switch things up a little this week but I still plan on doing STS Meso 2 Legs. I love the tri-sets in that workout.

Deb-you are getting the weather we had last week. I didn't think it would ever stop raining. Now it's sunny, but cold.

Valerie-We took Chino to the vet for his physical and I asked her about ticks. She said they wouldn't be an issue where we live and because our cats are indoor only, but that if we lived in a heavily wooded area it would be a concern.

Carolyn-Great workout! I agree with you about ICE. Great workouts but not exhausting. I love all the premixes too.

Diane Sue-I'm sorry about your allergies :( I hope you feel better soon. The only Kombucha I've tried was GT's Synergy. I didn't like it either. I'll have to try one of the other ones.

Caitlin-Hope you are enjoying your trip! It sounds like you will have a great time!

Lori-Great job with the workouts! We've been using Advantage products on our kitties and they seem to be good quality.

Good evening ladies,

Yesterday I kept it simple and pretty much did some free style jumping with my ankle weights and 3lbs hand weights. I followed along with several of SB' bounces but doing my own think but stopped to do the barre work she does. Had the volume turned down and listened to my own music. Was fun and changed things up a bit. 45 mins / 346 cal. It was really nice so I took GiGi for a walk. Total day for steps were 15,364. Today is a rest day. When I got up I felt a little sore so checked my fitness tracker and my last rest day was 10 days ago so I am ok with no workout today.

Thanks for all the tick advice. We are thinking about having our yard sprayed. GiGi must be also bringing them in as we found one this morning crawling on Nilla. Freaked me out a bit. No way Nilla could have picked this up outside. She goes kind of really close by to the door. No grass at all, just stone. She does her thing and comes right back in.

Valerie...thanks for the info. I will look to see if that ingredient is in the meds we bought. If we spray it should not be a problem as they are indoor cats. Nice little ride. Hills really work you!

Deb...with all the ticks we have found the past few days I am sure she will test positive for Lyme. Hoping there are no complications. KMC's recent Raw Boxing looks good. She does it with her brother. Going to try this out on Saturday if I can fit in a workout due to Nicholas's graduation. Plan to have my 1# hand weights with me so hoping I can get this quick workout in.

Carolyn...agree about the ICE workouts.

Diane Sue...really great workout today. I am so sorry abpit your allergies. I am very sympathetic. I love sitting out side too. Terrible that when you do you pay the price later.

Judy...congrats on the steps!! Been a while since I have done a JS workout need to pull these out as I really enjoy her.

Hi to Caitlyn!

I made those cherry cashew protein bars. I used half the cricket flour and the other half vanilla bone broth protein powder, They are really good. A fruit and nut type of bar. I think I could make them with just the bone broth protein powder. I made half of a recipe and that made 4 bars.

Judy, I like the tri sets for legs. Sometimes you need a break from a rotation. I haven't done a full length one in quite some time. Usually when I do STS I will try to aim for 2 weeks of each meso cycle. You should try the Gingerade. I have purchased the green tea one and it sort of has a grassy taste, not bad but something I wouldn't go back and get again.

Lori, nice job on doing your own thing with your workout. I have always used one of those garden hose sprayers in my yard about once a month during the warm season. I just did it at night and if I had to let the dogs out I would go with them and wipe their feet with wet wipes when we came back in. That way it had all night to absorb. I was surprised when the vet said Mudd had the tick born disease. I told him we have lots of concrete here and I spray the yard all of the time. She always had frontline on during the warm months. I didn't always do it during the winter. Now I do it year round after losing her. The vet says a lot of people tell him something similar, but it can still happen. We do have the park and wooded trails along with the pond behind the homes across the street though. Which reminds me, I need to spray the yard again. I like to have the lawn mowed down before I do it as well. Just in case Gertie decides she wants to chew grass. She hasn't done it in awhile though.
I used to sit outside and read and have my coffee in the mornings and enjoy the early morning smells and quiet. I quit doing it.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, decided to get my hair cut/colored, and by the time I was done, I didn't feel like starting a workout.

Diane Sue, thanks for the info on kombucha. After reading how you make it, I think I would just buy some. Cricket flour??? Ugh...I couldn't do it, no matter how good they say it is for you. There is a restaurant that just opened here that service crickets as some kind of appetizer...no thanks.

Valerie, I'm with you...never liked sauerkraut. I don't think I would like kimchee...

Carolyn, agree on the ICE series...it is one of Cathe's best.

Judy, 16,000 steps is great!

Lori, that's horrible about the ticks. I guess spraying your yard is a must at this point...but I would be very careful about waiting to let the dogs out there for a while. I have not seen anything on KCM doing a Raw workout with her brother....need t go over to YouTube and check it out.

Class this morning with Kylee...

Take care,

Spent most of yesterday with a high school friend who was out here helping her son and his wife with their kids. Had the reunion book from our 50th year.... I didn't go to it. Fun to go thru old pics and reminisce. Sobering to see how many have passed.
Got home with enough time to cram in a workout ...a flextrain premix 40 min I agree about the ice series. flextrain is a favorite too, no dread factor for me. I'm content with that level of intensity. had to shorten a little due to DH wanting dinner.

I don't know why crickets sound so unappealing. I've read about them, it sounds like a good nutritional source but it would be tough mentally. Kombucha sounds like maybe a "try it " before committing to making it. I would have to like it a lot to go thru that process. With the oceans being polluted and fished out, we may be looking for new food sources. apparently no hope for controlling the world's human population. cattle are a massive waste of water and space. so insect protein may be important in the future.
Carolyn I will check ellie kriegers site for that recipe. I like most of her recipes so far.

Lori at least you can be pretty sure your home area is the source. if you google ticks there are all kinds of suggestions, like cutting back tall grass to reduce habitat. if gigi brought them into the house, they could climb onto Nilla from inside, like shared bedding or carpeting. creepy, I know. I don't have experience with ticks around home just from traveling to areas that have them.

Judy, that is great you can relax on the tick business. my mother always had totally indoor cats. the problems developed when my brother brought his dogs over to her house. he didn't treat the dogs for fleas and ticks, and they introduced fleas to her house, and the cats all got them. created a real mess since she has quite a few cats and her house is packed full of junk so no way to clean it. not sure what happened but I think his dog got sick ( heartworm?) and ended up costing a lot to fix things that were preventable to begin with. but he wouldn't listen!

I try to look at the fact that I eat shrimp and lobster. Shrimp bothers a little if it is not detailed, deveined and shelled. We had a saltwater tank with a shrimp in it. After watching it wander around the tank and hanging with the star fish, I kind of see that shrimp in the ones I eat. I have to not think about it. Anyway, there is little taste and it is the mind thing. The bars turned out really well. Other countries get their nutrition wherever they can and think nothing of it. I feel the same way with eating meat other than what would be considered normal. I am going to do To the Max if I can make enough room. I have started painting one of the walls in my workout room.

I did To The Max Extreme premix that includes the bonus and the abs with upper focus, 63 minutes, 546 calories heart rate avg. 134/max 174. I then did Kelly Coffey Body Design cool down and yoga 17 minutes 52 calories, heart rate 99 ave. /121 max. Total time 81 minutes, 598 calories. 4,191 steps. Gertie was so cute today. Cathe says relax multiple times during the cool down stretch on to the max. She laid down next to me and put her nose up ag as instead me in her relaxed position. I always tell her to relax and taught her to become completely relaxed, no lifting her head or putting paws on me while I rube her down and chck all of her paws. Anyway, I had to stop and pat her and give her a hug.

Deb, kombucha sounds difficult but once you have it down it is not that hard. Bottles in the store vary in price. I paid 3.29 for a 16 oz bottle at Walmart yesterday. Sprouts has sales on different kombucha brands once in awhile and I can pick some up at anywhere from 2.29 -2.99 on sale. That is usually when I treat myself to several bottles. It is more something I purchase as a treat when I go shopping. I would like to get a yogurt maker and try my hand at different nut milk and coconut milk yogurts. Maybe one of these days. Last time I looked at the makers they were kind of expensive. I used to make yogurt and just set it in a cabinet that had the drier in it and was always about the right temperature. That was years ago and I had a recipe that used evaporated milk. It was a really tasty yogurt. Although I would probably not do that now for health reasons.

Valerie, we went to a class reunion for my husband almost 20 years ago and even then it was surprising how many classmates were already gone. My Dad went to all of his and he would say , there aren't many of us left anymore.

Today I did Lean Legs and Abs followed by JS 15 Minute Calorie Burst. Judy did the same combo the other day.

Diane Sue, I saw that cricket flour on television too and I knew immediately that I would not be trying it! I am glad to know that it was good in your protein bars. It is definitely a mental thing about what is food.

Hi to everyone and have a wonderful day.

Ha ha crickets are less off putting than a whole lot of meat products that are out there that no one thinks twice about eating. I lost my interest in meat long ago. liver sweetbreads brains sausage tripe spam horse meat dog meat ... so many things people around the world eat happily without thinking about the source. it makes crickets sound kind of tame, actually. why did someone long ago decide raw oysters looked good?? I will eat chicken and some fish, but sushi scares me to death. I took Parasitology long ago. fleas and ticks were covered along with all kinds or worms and flukes, insects like mosquitos. think malaria and now zika. no way would I eat raw fish. or drink raw milk.

I used to make yogurt, think it sat in a food dehydrator to ferment. long time ago. easier to buy already made. I don't use enough to bother making it. I used to make bread too, and same thing now. I don't use enough to make it worthwhile.

we did a 32 mile trail ride this morning. took 3 hours. after about 20 miles my hands and wrists start getting numb and I need to stop more often to shake them out. I've tried all sort of gloves and positions, but it seems to always be a factor after a certain amount of time.

diane sue the numbers of "passed away"classmates may be skewed higher than they really are. the way my old school does things is publish a photo list of people who want to participate in the reunion get together or in the booklet they print. . If they get no response from someone, they are not listed. however, every person who shows up in the death notices gets listed. so the list of survivors is lower than it should be since a hefty % of people just don't care to respond or are never reached, while the list of departed ones is closer to reality.
