Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/7

I got the long wall n my workout room painted. I wanted to do it first as it has a whole row of windows with vertical blinds to work around. I also got my replacement cell phone so I have to do all of the set up all over again. I sure hope this does not happen again. They sure do not try to hard to fix the problem. It just seems like they know there is a problem and they want to switch out the phone.

Carolyn, it was on Shark tank that I saw the cricket flower protein bars. I just saw them in Sprouts and thought I might try one.

Valerie, I would never eat anything like that that is not cooked. My fish is generally over cooked by the time I am done with it. I don't want any part of it not flaky. Chicken is okay, but sometimes I get some that seems like it has more chewy stuff in it and then I cannot eat it again for awhile. It all has to be cooked very well. Lately I have been surviving more on protein powder and a little meat. Not much appetite for it.. I am making chili for family dinner tomorrow and decided to make two pots, one regular beef chili and one white chicken chili. I looked at recipes and am thinking of adding some organic frozen corn and less cannellini beans. I am roasting chicken to shred right now so it will be easier to put together tomorrow. I am not fond of beans and I really do not feel like the traditional chili. Sometimes when I make the dinners I mainly eat salad. I used to make bread all of the time when my children were growing up. I would use the Cornell triple rich flour recipe that used extra ingredients to make the bread more protein and nutrition. The family grew up with lots of fresh things like wheat germ pancakes with fresh strawberries, homemade yogurt, real cheese, black strap molasses cookies. I don't eat a lot of that stuff now so like you I don't do it often.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I did do a lot of de-cluttering, and took a bunch of stuff to Goodwill.

Valerie, I bet it was nice going back and seeing memories with an old friend. Great ride...I would think keeping hands/wrists in a position for that long would have anybody's hands go numb eventually.

Diane Sue, awww...so cute that Gertie relaxes with you when you are stretching etc. I am not sure what is considered "good" kombucha or not. Is there something you make sure it has or doesn't have?

Carolyn, we are the same when it comes to "cricket" anything! :).

Have a great day!

Good evening ladies!

Yesterday morning I started my Advanced BBS rotation along with my SB rotation. All I can say is I am glad SB workouts are short! This mornings BBS was tough. Consisted of a Dance Cardio, then we did an Upper Body focusing on shoulders and tris. This had me fried at the end, then on to core. I did keep the core really short because SB's workout was a core one so no need to over work my core! Lol! You all know how much I avoid core work! I did the sb core when I came home. It was short and sweet. I followed up with BBS Jump rope workout that was 11 mins and did it on the jumpsport. Was fun.Total time was 75mins / 485cal.

There is a company that sprays and we received a quote for $675 thru September. We are giving it some thought and leaning towards this. Hard to put a price on GiGi's health. We could do it oursleves cheaper but with all the chemicals we would rather not.

Deb...did you get to check oit KCM's boxing workout?

Diane Sue...that sounds like a tough workout with a much needed nice relaxing stretch/yoga afterwards. I love when GiGi stays with me whil working out. On of the reasons I like working out upstairs. Yesterday she kept bringing me her ball to play. Was cute.

Valerie...kind of sad about all the classmates that have passed. I have been out 38 years now and starting to hear of some passings. Good for you getting that workout in!

Carolyn...must be a good combo! :) I am with you and Deb with the crickets!

Have a great day all! Hi to Judy and Caitlyn.

Deb, as far as how to know the best Kombucha, I think you just have to research. Dr. Kombucha clamps to be the only true organic raw kombucha with no juices added. It uses a lot o things like tumeric, ginger, chamomile. That sort of thing. GT is the first on I have tried and often mentioned on Paleo sites. I have tried a couple of others that I was not impressed with. I keep thinking I need to take a couple of days off and I might get more tasks accomplished. My workouts are a habit and days off other than Sunday rarely happen.
One of the cities my husband worked for used Tempo spray around their facilities. The fire chief theresaid he used it at his house and it was safe for pets to walk on right away. I have had some in my cart on Amazon thinking I should order some.

Lori, nice calorie burn and workout. I am the opposite on core work. I like doing it.

DH researched why I am having so much trouble with hand numbness. it might be my seat position is tipping me too much forward. It said even a degree or two can make a difference. We will check for level. Funny, I thought it was level as it is. I have it set so my sit bones are ok I can try raising the handlebar a tad. These are subtle adjustments. I would like to ride longer distances and would be able to if it weren't for this. the handlebars might need bike shop trip. Think they add a ring to raise handle bars a smidge. Then I need to realize this might shift the problem to my sit bones instead, because the seat is comfortable where it is. I want to get this worked out very tired of this ongoing problem. some people have numbness issues but mine seems especially pronounced. remember Josie and how she did these 100 mile days? ( Hi Josie if you still check in here sometimes ) I think I could accomplish that but the numbness gets worse the longer I ride, and it doesn't get better with more frequent rides. goes away immediately when I stop and shake my hands out.

this is a hard choice. I would hate to spray something toxic enough to kill ticks all around my yard. they are tough little guys and I would imagine you kill a lot of other things too. but then I don't live where ticks are a problem. does this get sprayed on all plants and grass?

I also like core work. also like tricep work so there you go.

My workout today was IMAX 2. I did intervals 1-7, part of 9, and 10. I had planned to stop at interval 7, but I decided to go longer. Total time was 51 minutes and 369 calories.

Valerie, I didn't realize you were having the problem with hand numbness. I hope you can figure out a solution for it.

Diane Sue, the other brand of kombucha that I have tried is Reed's. It was Cabernet flavored so definitely some fruit juice. I switched to the GT's because I liked the ginger flavor. I also like doing core workouts, some more than others.

Lori, great job on the workout.

Deb, de-cluttering feels good. I did a bit last month, but I need to do more and take some items to Goodwill.

Hello to Judy and Caitlin.

Today I started with Kelly Coffey Body Design mix of cardio bootcamp(this is non weighted) and weighted kickbox using 3#, 31 minutes, 239 calories, avg. heart rate 136, max 176. I then did Strong and Sweaty PHA training, 45 minutes., 230 calories, heart rate 114/ 147 max . Total time was 76 minutes and calories burned 469. I was up till midnight trying to set up my new cell phone again. I was trying to clear out the one I have to send back and it is giving me problems setting it back to default. I cleared out most of my contacts but it says I am at my limit of how many contacts I can delete?? I got frustrated trying to set up a new password with my Samsung account since what I have written is not working and they wanted that to set back to defaults. I quite shut it down and came upstairs to workout instead.

Valerie, I have my hands go numb when I am riding the spin bike and I am not even gripping the handlebars tight. I have to shake them out. I don't know why it happens. I will be curious to see what you figure out. I just attributed it to my arthritis or something , but am sure position has something to do with it. Of course when you are mountain biking you can't shake your hands out. Spraying the yard is a tough choice. There are many reasons you wouldn't want to, but you have weigh the bad of the mosquitos and ticks. They seem to be getting worse for some reason. I just saw a post on facebook my sister in law posted that lives in Washington of a little girl that had played in the sprinkler and rolled in the grass. She had apparently landed in a nest of ticks. She started running a fever and has spots all over her. The mother took pictures of the girls legs and how tiny of specks the baby ticks were. The doctor has her on meds. That is frightening. Better to spray the lawn.

Carolyn, the Reeds I bought was a raspberry one. I lover pretty much anything raspberry. It had a lot of fizz to it and was sweeter. I would imagine it is not one of the healthier varieties. I forget about the I max workouts. Also forget how much I used to like the Terminator workouts. It has been years since I have done one.

we did a 2 hr 20 min mt bike today, about 7.5 miles. I sit more upright on a mt bike. I don't usually get numbness problems. you change position a lot more on a mt bike with uphill, downhill, and getting off and on. road rides you get in a position and stay there. I guess this is a sign it's the riding position.
what I've heard is numbness is caused by pressure on the ulnar nerve at the base of hand. everyone's anatomy can be a little different, plus riding positions vary. anyway, it's a common issue. I will try resetting the seat first. padded gloves don't help and if anything make it worse.

where is Washington does she live? eastern wash has way more tick problems than western Wash.

Valerie, my sister in law lives in Mesa, Washington. They are kind of out in the woods . They purchased land and put in a modular home when they retired. They are big into hunting, fishing, and camping.
I had a doctor tell me once that it was the ulner nerve when my hands would go numb when I was sleeping. He tried to give me valium so I could sleep. I decided that was not going to take care of the problem. It finally resolved itself. Maybe I was more conscientious of my position when sleeping. Hopefully some adjustments will help.

Edited to say I looked at a map and my sister in law is in the northwestern corne of the state.

Good morning,

Keegan was sick yesterday, vomiting, would not eat anything etc. All he wanted to do was eat grass. I made the turkey/pumpkin stomach upset food, and he would not even take that until late last night. He seemed better, and at least kept that down.

Lori, good job on the new rotation. I didn't get to check out that KCM...but if it is boxing, I would most likely not do it.

Diane Sue, I think I have seen some of the kumbacha in one of our grocery stores here. I will keep the GT brand in mind. I think if I do something like clean the attic, or de-clutter something instead of a workout, I feel good about it. I would wonder about any spray that kills fleas, ticks etc that is ok to go on right away. I would want to wait at least 24 hours or more. Sometimes it is better to put the phone down, like you did and go to something else. ( better than throwing it out a window right? LOL)...

Valerie, it may be worth it to have the handlebars adjusted a bit, to see if it does help your hands. Maybe the small amount won't affect your sit bones..

Carolyn, Imax is a tough one! Good job.

Working some more on de-cluttering..

Take care,

Diane sue we have gotten into ticks a few times in the general area of Mesa. Once around Potholes area near Moses Lake, another time near tri cites. Mesa is between the two. most of eastern Washington has a tick population especially spring /early summer. Not a big problem on the west side of the mountains. we have some but not lots.

also found ticks on a Yellowstone trip, and a few other eastern Washington trips. we got them all off before any attached. found them on boots, pants legs, and flicked them off. if you crush one, don't do it with your bare hand. they can get on a pack when you set it on the ground, and then move to you when you put the pack on. I usually treat our packs with permethrin but haven't yet this year since we have several packs and it would take a lot of spray.

I saw the kombucha in the refrigerated beverages yesterday. there were several dozen at least different bottles. I didn't have time to look closely, but was surprised there were so many.

Getting our chimney cleaned this morning then getting ready for niece and her husband who will arrive Friday . Looks like it will be rainy for their visit. I will not be posting for a few days. We'd hoped to take them riding but might be too wet

we will try simplest fix first, which is making my bike seat more level. I have always preferred it dropped down in the front but will try to lift it a little at a time and see if it helps. if even a degree can make a difference, we have room to work. last, we will try the headset adjust. I think that requires adding extra rings to raise it up. not sure about that part.

I don't know this for sure , but I thought cats and dogs ate grass when they wanted to throw up. now WHY they want to throw up is another question.... Deb hope your little guy is better today.

Today I did Cardio Slam with the abs, 63 minutes, heart rate 132 average/ 177 max, 459 calories, 4,346 steps. (this was a 6.6 met according to what the workout manager has, much lower than what they give for the workout) I did my workout early today because I wanted to get out and do the banking, getting gas, post office, and stop at Sprouts done before the storm chances hit this afternoon. I have the clothing party to go to tonight. Hopefully any rain is light. I don't think Oklahoma City will get the bad storms, but you never know in Oklahoma. It rained yesterday and I was happy that my sun room did not leak. I am so grateful that the painters caulked the glass ceiling when they painted outside for us. They did such a good job that two of the neighbors came over and asked them about painting for them. They gave them business cards that my husband made for them. I tried another Brew Dr Kombucha today. I sort of liked it but it seemed to leave a bit of after taste. This one was Citrus Hops and had organic orange and hops in it with some coriander and was white tea. I wish Sprouts would get more flavors. They only had 4. I didn't care for the one called Love which had rose and some flowers in it. The energy one just doesn't sound good because it has mint and I don't care for mint in my drinks. I liked the ginger cayenne one but not as much as GT gingerade. I saw on their site that they have quite a lot of flavors. I picked up a gingerade as well so I can have another one tomorrow.

Deb, I am sorry that Keegan is sick. It makes you feel helpless when you can't do a lot for them. I hope things continue to improve with the appetite and the food stays down. I don't think that I would let my dog walk on the lawn right after spraying even if they say it is okay. I have taken Gertie on leash and out to the front before just to be safe. I don't spray the front lawn. I spray around the outside of the house and the garage to help control bugs that want to come in. We have very little lawn in back. They say that the Tempo spray is really affective. I have never been able to find it in a store or tractor supply. I know there is a difference in the sprays at the stores and what pest control people use because there are insecticides and pesticides. Some are much stronger than others. Yes, putting down the phone was better than throwing it:) When I came back to it last night I cleared some more stuff out. My husband spent some time with it and thought he had it all cleared out, but when I went checking I found trash (I never saw this area before) There was all of the pictures and downloads all over again. I cleared the trash and let my husband look again and he found some more download files. I think I finally got it cleared pretty well. This morning I turned on my new cell and it asked if I wanted to continue set up. No, way. My husband texted me a phone number list from his phone, I went through it and added addresses that I had I my tablet to some and some friends that I still had in my tablet. I saw if I don't mind have a double contact list, I can put all of those phone numbers on my SD card that I put in the phone. Then I probably could avoid losing them again. That is where my pictures are.

Valerie, I have never had a tick attach to me. I have caught them crawling. I never thought much about not squashing them with my hands. I guess that would make sense if they are carrying diseases or something. I have pulled them off of pets. So far I have not found any on Gertie. She is not real happy about being outside unless a person is outside with her. Sprouts is carrying quite a few different brands of Kombucha tea now. I need to check out some of the other brands and see what I can find out. Brew Dr Kombucha says it has billions of probiotics in it. With all of your outdoor activities it is best to be tenacious about spraying your stuff and checking everything.
I always heard that about dogs eating grass to help rid themselves of whatever is making them sick. I don't know if it is fact or just something that dogs do. Every once in awhile I go out and find a pile of vomited up grass from Gertie. Not often though and she quit doing it in the house. When she was having issues with the dog food and loose stools she would eat a lot of grass as well. That is why I will not change her food unless the company changes the formula or quits selling what is working.

Today I did LIS Upper Body Trisets. This is a premix from Total Body Trisets. The workout was 70 minutes and 260 calories.

I ran a couple of errands and stopped in Belk's to look for a new shade of lipstick. I like the nudes that are popular now, but there were so many choices. I was at the Estée Lauder counter, but it's nothing like Macy's! I tried a few with the help of sales associate and I bought one called intense nude.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful afternoon.

Good evening ladies,

Keeping with my rotation this morning was Dance Cardio 3. This one was 48 mins and lots of fun. In the middle of it we do a series of planks and some mountain climbers. 375 cal. I thought it would be more with all the jumping. This was my only workout. SB's workout was a plank workout and that was not happening for me twice in one day! Lol.

Deb...Hoping Keegan is feeling better. Completely forgot your feelings on kickboxing.

We decided we are going to change GiGi's tick medicine to Frontline and see what happens. If we are still finding ticks then we are going to pay and have our yard professionally sprayed. Hoping by switching brands things will subside. Perhaps we just got a bad batch? Who knows but we can't keep going the way we are. I left the house today before my husband woke and he said he found a tick on his back that had attached. Was still small so it had not been there too long. I changed the sheets when I got home! Not sure if I will sleep tonight.

Valerie...enjoy your company.

Diane Sue...I have only done Cardio Slam a couple of times. It really is a good one and a nice calorie burner. Nilla used to eat grass all the time. GiGi does not but she chews rocks which we are really trying hard to break her of this. Will really harm her if she swallows one.

Carolyn...I have such a hard time with lipstick. Once I find a shade I like I pretty much stick with it forever. Right now I am using a vitamin infused balm by cover girl..Oh Sugar in Caramel.

Hi to Judy and Caitlyn!

Lori, I hope changing to Frontline helps. I purchase mine at the vet to make sure I am getting hopefully the most recently made and the real thing. I had purchased from Amazon before when we had both dogs and through reviews there were some that said what they got didn't work as well. Anyway, the vet generally gives extra and you get a rebate most of the time so it ends up being the best option. They were warning about taking precautions because the tick population seems to have grown. I bet not having a good freeze didn't help. I wear different colors of lipstick. Warmer colors seem to work better with some shades of clothing and cooler colors for some. I go a bit darker if I am wearing pale colors because with my pale skin I look washed out. I like changing colors and looks in makeup so I have lots:)

Carolyn, I spend entirely too long choosing colors in makeup. I try to look online ahead of time to get an idea of what I want before I hit the store , but quite often the colors do not look the same in the store. Really they often do not look the same in the containers as they do on. I do have a couple of favorite colors though that I tend to choose most often.

Good morning,

I did another trip to Goodwill yesterday, it sure feels good to get some stuff out of the house. :). Keegan is better...all of a sudden the other night at about 7:00 he wanted to eat and was back to normal. Not sure what it was.

Valerie, when you see ticks on clothing, how big are they? The one that one of our members saw on her dog in class was about a tenth of the size of a grain of rice...How can these be seen at all? I hope the simple bike adjustment works for you.

Diane Sue, how was the clothing party? Did you buy anything? We have had 2 dogs die from cancer...one lymphoma ....so we do not spray our grass any longer. I sure hope we do not find ticks in our yard..:(. Like I asked Valerie, how can you see the tick to squash it? was it filled and therefore bigger?

Carolyn, good workout! You are getting into the older ones that are good but sometimes forgotten. Buying a new lipstick can be uplifiting. :) I really like these lipsticks...

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...prefix=fresh+sugar,aps,171&crid=11Y3QOLOLKO2X

Lori, that is so scary about the ticks....they have to be in the yard...maybe have it sprayed but keep Gigi and Nilla out of it for 48 or more hours? What does the company recommend that does the spraying? Also the rock chewing can damage her teeth. I am like you, once I find a lipstick I like, I keep using it. The Fresh Sugar shade that I love has been discontinued...so I grabbed up 3 of them on Ebay, and have a permanent search for them so if any more are listed, I get an email.

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Ticks are not that simple!. there are a many of different ticks. they change size during their several year life cycle, starting tiny and getting bigger each year. a tiny tick that is not engorged.... expands to MANY times larger if it is engorged with blood. . http://tickinfo.com/ these looked like a reasonable site to get an idea. http://www.tickencounter.org/tick_identification there are a million places to look, because they are a pretty big problem. they show some ticks on a dime coin and in various stages of engorgement. they really blow up! I've only seen pics of an engorged one.

I am looking much of this up as I go, so do not think I am an "expert"! DH and I have had a few encounters like I said, but they aren't that big a problem here. I know I read somewhere about cutting back brush in your yard but I think this will depend on the type of tick and the geography they are found where you live.
I would definitely put thru the wash anything where your dogs sleep or spend a lot of time. I just got some flea bites and washed everything where my kitty sleeps, and gave him this months dose of flea meds. it was a month to the day since his last dose so I was not late, but it was right at the end of the month. we have had a long wet winter with some freezes. I usually get a few flea bites every year so I wash bedding, vacuum, make sure his treatment is up to date.
ETA I did x train chest/back yesterday and most of core 1.

Today I started with Barre Amped Bounce arms and abs using 3# dumbbells and my fit tower for the bar. I wanted to do it again since the other time I did it my neck and shoulders hurt for days. I would call it shoulders and some abs myself :) pull up moves and long arm pulses. Ouch. Anyway , that was an extra warm up. !8 minutes, 53 calories, average heart rate 92/ max 139. I then did Strong and Sweaty Giant sets and it took me 11 minutes longer because I stopped between giant set body parts to write down the weight I used. Some day I will get this down so I am prepared. 62 minutes, 265 calories, this would calculate to a met value of 4.7 compared to workout manager 7.5 and 422 calories. heart rate was average 104/ max 131. 2,465 steps this morning. Not much. I have to get busy and want to go find a new shirt to wear with my new skirt I got at the party last night. I have an eye appointment today. The first exam since I had the double process laser surgery years ago. About 9 years. I hope I am still good.

Debbie, I had fun at the party. I purchased a maxi skirt that is soft and comfortable. The only thing is that I have to go out and find a shirt. I tried it on with a cream colored shirt but I didn't want to buy a plain cream colored t shirt. The skirt is a magenta pattern. Maybe just a black shirt or something? I also bought one of their new arrival t shirts that is hard to describe but I liked the designs on it. It is basically black and red. Some stripes on the yoke, some floral. Their t shirts are really soft. When I tried to squash live ticks I dug my fingernail into them. I am sure that is probably not a good thing. They are hard to squash. The only time I ever squashed one was when it was on a dog we had when I was a child and it was huge. Blood came out. Yuck!

Valerie, I wash my dogs bedding at least twice a month. Even though she is indoors it gets dirty. Also when I bathe her I like to wash her bedding too. I just bought her a new memory foam dog bed and I made sure it had a removable cover that I can wash. I read reviews on some and may try what someone did by putting a garbage bag over the mattress between the cover and the foam to keep that cleaner. I wouldn't do that if Gertie was a chewer but she won't eat her bed. If she was a chewer , I would treat her like I did when she was a pup and she would have towels to sleep on since she shredded them. I worry about the ticks all over. I have not sprayed anything yet this year. I noticed that aunts were crawling under the door of the garage yesterday. They are nasty looking when they are engorged.

No workout for me today. I just didn't feel up to it. One advantage to the Cathe rotations is that she uses old and new workouts. I might not remember them either if not for that. This week had IMAX 3 scheduled but I like 2 better so I substituted.

Deb, thanks for the link for Fresh lipstick. I have used Fresh products but usually bath and body items.

Diane Sue, how does a clothing party work? Do they have items for you to try on at the party? It sounds more complicated than jewelry or make-up parties.

Hello to everyone.

Carolyn, I like I Max 2 the best as well. Three would be second. The first one seems kind of tame in comparison. The Lularoe party is set up with racks of clothing. shirts, blouses, skirts dresses and leggings set out in holders. This one was from 5:30 to 8 and guests invited pop in and try on clothes, visit, and enjoy refreshments. They had a bedroom and a bath set for trying on clothes and a mirror in the main area to check out the look. Also they encourage everyone to come out and show off the outfits you try on. I came out with the skirts and top outfits but when I tried on several shirts I didn't come out. I could see enough of the fit in the bath mirror. It is fun. You purchase what you want there and get to take it home. I think you can buy from the ladies that are the main hostesses because they send out an email with their points card and you get a business card as well. My daughter got some credit toward her spending for co hosting it. I went to something similar when I was a teenager with my mother. I don't remember if we got to take the clothing home right away or not. It is my understanding that Lularoe only makes a limited amount of each print. They have certain styles that have names for each. Loads of different prints and some with more than one print put together. They have little girls clothes as well. I was surprised how much was there in so many different sizes. It was like walking into a store.
