Pentagenarians & Beyond" W/B 3/5

Judy we both survived our unpleasant trip to California and neither of us got sick. we took antiseptic wipes along and went over the "usual suspects" .... door handles, TV remote, etc. were careful to use sanitizer several times in the airport after touching surfaces like in security area. this hotel didn't have an exercise room and we were there too little time, but if we had used it I would have wiped down anything I'd use. I've never stayed in a hotel where the equipment actually worked well, so you avoid a lot of issues by bringing your own along.

we are all electric here. getting a generator set up correctly is challenging. we've thought about doing it to keep the frig and freezer running but have not done it. we have plenty of outages not related to storms. the cable company just "upgraded' speeds. we had a full day without internet and phone (not the end of the world ) but then our alarm system was messed up and we had to do a system reset and trigger the alarm to get it back to normal. a surprise, didn't expect that!
I did a chunk of To the Mat yesterday, the floor and band work. working up to barre. Deb I was surprised I can still hear music. it's not loud, just a faint background. I just hate one song! I've done that workout enough times and I hear it in background every time. I don't have Pure Strength.
Of the barre type workouts which is the easiest? I'm sure I have one or two but only minimal use. I plan on doing time saver premixes to ease into it. aim for one a week. maybe!

I am leery of supplements. I don't think there is much, if any, regulation by FDA or anyone else. things can have widely varying amounts of listed ingredients. or none at all. you are at the mercy of the manufacturer to be honest.

Today was my investment club meeting so no workout for me. We had a good meeting with substantive discussions and stock reports. We voted to sell one of our companies that's being acquired.

We have had very little winter weather this year which makes me dread the coming summer. I'm sure it will be terribly hot with a lot of insects!

Valerie, I have the SB Barre Amped dvd and her Strengthen and Stretch and I like both. You can select short sections from Barre Amped according to what you want to do. Turbo Barre is good but too long. I have started to choose parts to do because even the premixes are too long.

Judy it's good that they getting the power on again there. It's difficult to do without, even more so with the cold weather.

Greetings to everyone and enjoy your day.

Today's workout was Strong and Sweaty Bootcamp extreme #1 double it mix, 81 minutes., 548 calories. I then did Barre Amped lower body stretch, 19 minutes, 42 calories. Total calories 590. I lowered some of the upper body weights on the second time through. The first time I stuck with Cathe's weights. I have to run to the store again and do some baking this afternoon. Time change again. I do not like getting used to one time and then it changing. The only

Lori, are you doing all of the Body by Simone on You Tube? I would be interested in the tram one. I did go back and put the other one in my watch later since the first time I put it in my grandson's you tube on my computer. I watched part of it. I found with P90X yoga I would keep looking at the clock wondering when it was going to be done. It takes some work to get it out of my head that just because I don't burn calories I am getting results. I remember doing Turbo Barre (I only did the entire workout about 3 times) and I would spend all of that time and get 200 calories.

Deb, it is raining and the temps have dropped here too. Back to long sleeves again. Funny thing is that we moved that generator to a couple of homes before we had to use it. I have thought about the problem of not being home and the power going out for an extended time. Enjoy agility today.

Judy, I hope the power stays on for you. 114 degrees is cold. When I was without power one winter I was lucky enough to be able to get the gas fireplace going (no blower) and closed off the rest of the house. That helped a little. I had to stay bundled up.

Good afternoon ladies,

This morning I did most of SB's Bounce DVD, arms and abs; thighs and then booty. I then did her Hip Hop bounce from her streaming and followed up with BBS Adv Tramp #7. Total time was 72 mins and 532 cal. I felt really worked when done.

Deb...it is really cold here today. So cold Bob said he would take GiGi for a walk so I did not have to. :). The ladies are still doing the 10 min workouts about 3 times a week. I have not been able to join in. I am so crazy busy I cannot even spare 10 mins.

Judy...glad your power is back. Good to wait and see it remains on like you are doing. Travel Fit is a great band workout. I have a few band ones I have made up for when I travel. I am in my 3rd year of SB streaming. Went by quickly.

Diane Sue...the Tramp (as she calles them!) are from her streaming site. I signed on for a month and it is about to run out. I like the workouts but not enough inventory for me yet. I will come back to it in a couple of months. The tramp workouts are about 20m and only one is with Simone. They are a mixture of advanced and intermediate and I think there are 7. They are fun though. I remember thinking the same thing about turbo barre. It is such a tough barre workout and when I finished it and saw the calorie burn I would think that's it? I now have a different mindset with barre.

Carolyn...your investment club sounds really interesting. I think it is great to belong to one. One of the reasons I enjoy SB's streaming is most of her workouts are short and easy to combine with others.

Valerie...I very rarely use a hotel gym. I did in Mexico but really only for the space as I set my ipad up and did my own thing. Most of the time I workout in my room.

Have a good afternoon all!

I think it's Turbo Barre I have. I struggled with it a few times and put it aside. seems it was part of a set, like X-train maybe? I haven't looked for it lately but I remember it wasn't a pleasant experience. I seem to remember her holding her legs in positions I could not get into. my hips don't rotate outward much and it was always an issue for yoga poses too. good to know you both thought it was too hard/too long. I don't like To The Mat very much but most is not that hard. I've used floor work from Lower body Blast In the past. I am not buying anything new until I look at what I already have, since I have a bad record at sticking to barre or floor workouts.

Judy you're lucky to get power back so soon. everything should be fine in the frig and freezer. we get most of power outs when it's 40 degrees and we get a weather system move in from the southwest pacific. wet and windy, but not that cold. do you have to drain your water system before you leave when it's that cold?

Valerie, you would probably do better with Barre Amped. SB provides very clear and explicit directions and there is a modifier to show how to do the movements without going so low. You stop each movement at the level that works for you. She has fewer repetitions than the exercises in Turbo Barre and the workouts can be as short as you like. Turbo Barre is a part of the Low Impact Series.

Hello to all you wonderful ladies. I did 45 minutes of MMM Boxing weaaring two pound weights on each hand. Then I am going to do my upper body. I tried to walk the hills, but it was 18 degrees out.

Valerie-yes, we drained the water system and turned off the water on Thursday before we left. Everything is getting back to normal now. We'll be picking up the kitties in the morning.

Caitlin-It is really cold here too. I saw some people out running today but it's a little too cold for me to want to be outside.

Judy we almost froze our water system one time. not recommended! nothing is insulated here because it seldom gets that cold. very smart of you to take care of business before you left. frozen pipes can cause massive damage.

I looked at x train and didn't see turbo barre but I didn't look thru everything else. thanks. I must have it in there somewhere. I did Total body metabolic again, and this time went over Cathe's weight on several but definitely not all, moves. I can tell I did a heavy weight workout 2 days ago and felt kind of spent thru much of it. should have waited another day. definitely need a few days in between.
