Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/11/19

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Ripped/W/HIIT Low Impact Hiit, #2. 30 minutes, 173 calories.

Diane Sue, that chili sounds good. Do you have another streaming service you can try on the DVD player. Did you sign up for the KCM one? Thanks for the link on MET...it makes more sense now. I also wonder why anyone who hears an advertisement for a drug would want to take it after they list all the things that can go wrong. I was on one of those bone building meds, they seemed to be the rage for a while, now doctors are telling woman to stop taking them. John was one that was pointing out the jaw issues early on. He kept warning me that I should stop taking that med.

Carolyn, I took out the Strength & Stamina DVD...on my calendar for tomorrow. :).

Valerie, I think government should be responsible for keeping the food supply safe, but being cynical as I am, I wonder how many of them are influenced ( and in collusion with) big Pharma and the giants of the food industry like Monsanto etc. Good that you identified the move that you think caused the PF.

Judy, great workouts! You are really getting into yoga, and it sounds like it is helping you a lot. Yes, they are changing the BP standard from 120/80 to something like 130/? Yep, lets more doctors prescribe more meds.

Lori, with all the walking and stairs you do at work, I would bet it was those heels that did it! I am "loosely" following Cathe's 2014 Metabolic rotation. I say loosely because I am subbing a lot of the DVD workouts with Live ones. :).

Take care,

Deb, I have not purchased streaming. I will have to see if I can stream from either vimeo or cathe's site, but have to pay for it. I had to create a new password for Vimeo since I could not remember my old one. I was wondering if I can pull up vimeo I can at least see if some of it streams. When I do I will let you know. I have been so rushed lately that it is hard to find time to deal with it. Today I am going out with my daughter and grandchildren again. I know I can stream with my blu ray player for youtube, amazon Netflix, and vudu. It is jut seeing how using the www. works.

Today I did Muscle Max. My time was 1 hour 22 minutes with 277 calories burned. My average heart rate was 102 and maximum heart rate 140.

Deb, good job on doing the metabolic rotation. Subbing in different workouts is something I do all the time. Cathe’s rotation provides the basic outline and I change it to fit me.

Lori, 5” heels! I would never be able to walk in those. That must have given you quite a walking and calf workout for the day. I use to wear 2 1/2-3” heels but nothing higher than that.

Judy, I’m glad that you are enjoying the Yin Yoga.

Hello to Diane Sue and Valerie.

I maxed out at about 2 inch heels. still could not walk decently in them, and always carried soft moccasins to wear for "real" walking, like at the airport. only wore heels when with customers. 5 inches would kill me!

we wanted to ski today, but raining. we bagged that idea and went on 2 hikes in other parks. quite a bit of up and down in each walk for a total of 3 hrs 10 minutes. it really was more hiking than walking. I stopped the timer while eating lunch. some was along salt water, and saw lots of ducks, loons, grebes. spring migration is under way. cloudy but not raining there, and a pleasant day.

the folks I really don't trust are the big companies. Monsanto anyone? I would love it if good ethics and honesty prevailed, but without someone setting standards and checking to make sure those standards are met, I'm afraid private industry would let standards slide. like in a NY minute!. see current administration where they want to relax standards on everything. It's an important function of government, but I'm not confidant it will work well with this bunch in charge.

Osteoporosis is a rough thing to have. the women in my family have issues with deterioration of the spinal vertebrae where they get shorter and shorter, and bent over. I hope to dodge that bullet with exercise, good diet, and some luck. so far dexascan is holding well. not sure about fathers family history, not many people to check on. some people need to take the chance and take meds but I would be the first to insist on non medical measures first.

I am back from 3 hours of walking the zoo with my daughter and grandchildren. It is 76 degrees outside today :) It was beautiful and odd that the zoo was packed when it was early on a week day. We had to wait for a parking spot. I got in 12,000 steps at the zoo today. 25 floors as well, I guess because of the hills?
I just wear socks or barefoot around the house, keep some Dansko canvas slip ons for going outside, and wear workout shoes when I go shopping or working out. I keep a pair for working out an a pair for everyday outings. I only switch to a low heal for church or going to a nicer place for dinner. My preference would be no shoes all of the time. Most of my heels are Dansko. They just work best for my feet.

Valerie, I get a dexascan every few years. I don't know how all of that will work with Medicare. I need to look up some stuff as my breast health clinic called wanting to set up my mammogram and now I am medicare so I need to see what is covered. I usually paid the extra for the digital extra screening. This is the same place that does the dexascan.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was Mixed Cardio and Pull. Time was 54 mins / 490 cal. Tonight I did a 31 min bellicon bounce. Some of their bounces have such nice relaxing back grounds...for example todays was Lily Pond Bounce. It is by a pond with lily pods. Others are bouncing at the beach or bouncing at the pier. I do enjoy the locations they choose. Tomorrow’s workout is Hardstrikes and I am looking forward to it.

I needed to call Bellicon customer service about the confetti bungees I received. The colors they sent me were not what was pictured. They have great CS and were very nice. They will be sending me the correct ones. I could have lived with them but they were not cheap. For what I paid I should love them and what they sent I did not love at all.

I love my heels! Never had a problem wearing them. The shoes I spoke of are actually my Jessica Simpson boots and believe it or not they are very comfortable considering the heels. They have a slight platform in front which helps. However, on days I know I am up and down I do usually go lower.

Diane Sue...I could be wrong but I do not think you can stream a .com site using your blueray. I thought it was only the preset apps that come with it. I could be way off though. This is how ours were when we did use them. But it has been a couple of years and technology has grown substantially! Great job on the fit tower workout. I love everyone I have done, both dvd and live. Her most recent FT live may be my favorite though. Great total body workout with no weights. 3 hours walking at the Zoo is another workout!

Deb...that is great idea to sub in live workouts. Still not sure what rotation to do next. Now because of Diane Sue mentioning the Fit Tower perhaps I can do this again but also add in the FT Live workouts for variety. Hmmm need to think more of this. I may have a winner here.

Carolyn...is muscle max that long? Great job!

Valerie..great your foot pain is history. Going to be nice here tomorrow about 50 degrees. Pretty much unheard of in February. As of right now this is the least snowiest February we have had in I think 6 years the news said. I am very happy about this and can’t wait for the warmer weather. Your hike sounded great.

Have a great night all!

Lori, I was thinking maybe if I check out the Directv now website I can see if it streams since we do pay for that one and that app is not on my blu-ray player. It does have apps on it I don't use. Hulu, a Hallmark Now channel, I think Wrestling or something, I can't remember all of them available on it. I just have been running in and out and trying to get things done and no real time to spend checking it all out. If I can't I can always use the tablet or my downstairs laptop, but I don't like dragging it upstairs. The Windows 7 laptop upstairs does not have HDMI. There is a usb port on the front of the blu-ray player. I just don't like the streaming if it takes a lot of time to set it up.
I wish I could wear heels, but they just hurt my toes and feet too much. You are right, the bit of a platform makes a difference. One of my pair of Dansko sandals has a decent sized heel with about a 3/4 inch platform in the front. I wear those for most dress up things when the weather is not freezing.
You deserve the colors of bungees that you ordered. Why would you want something else :) I am sure they don't mind replacing them. Kind of disappointing though.

I am wondering if Cathe's would replace a Ripped with Hiit dvd that has a crack and chip in that center whole. I think they have a time limit on replacement. I pulled out RWH legs and it had a crack this morning. :(

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Barlates Barre Sculpt & Burn, Weighted Barre Series. I did the upper & lower section and part of the core. They were good workouts. I only used 2 & 4 lb dumbbells, but definitely felt a burn with all the high reps. I didn't get my heart rate up that much so it wasn't a big calorie burner. I think the Step Barre Fusion will have more of a cardio effect.

Deb-Yes, I think yoga is helping me a lot, especially with my low back. I really hate that they changed the bp standard. Mine is almost always low, as low as 80/60 at times, but Chris's is going to be closer to the 120/80 and I'm afraid his doctor will try to put him on bp meds if it creeps up over that.

Diane Sue-Great job on the Fit Tower workout! I think they would replace the RWH dvd for you.

Carolyn-Great job with Muscle Max! That's another favorite of mine. I ordered The Ultimate Yogi series and it arrived yesterday. I don't know that I will ever attempt the 108 day program but I will try to do all of the practices.

Hi to Valerie and Lori!

Judy

Good morning,

No workout, yesterday, took a rest day.

Diane Sue, great job on the steps and floors! I am pretty sure that if you can play a workout from YouTube or use with Netflix, you should be able to stream Cathe or other streaming sites. Most if not all Medicare plans I have seen do preventative care, like mammograms at no cost. Maybe there would be a little cost if you wanted a digital scan. I just signed up for a plan Wednesday.

Carolyn, I agree on the rotations. It took me a while to accept that I did not have to do the exact workout that was listed, and to use the rotation as a guideline.

Valerie, your hike sounds lovely, especially all the wildlife you see. My grandmother on my father's side had Osteoporosis. I try very hard to stand up straight, with shoulders back. I find myself slumping sometimes though.

Lori, that's too bad about getting the wrong cords. I would be upset too, but great that they have good CS and will fix it for you.

Judy, those workouts sound interesting. I also have low blood pressure....sometimes the second number is as low as 60. If Chris is any where near 120/80...he should question any dr trying to get him to take meds for it.

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Debbie, I would think medicare would take care of yhe basic mammogram. Even my HMo did not cover the extra for digital. I just paid the difference. I was surprised that I did not have to pay anything for my flu shot. I expected to have to pay some of the medicare deductable. That is the obly thing I have to pay with the plan I chose is that 183.00. The rest should be covered with my supplement. I just dontvwant any surprises. This blu ray player that I purchaded was one of the newest one with all of the extras.

I am thinking of putting my Cathe dvd sets in paper sleeves and maybe remove the plastic snap in holders. That way I can still have them in those cases together. All of my single dvds are in my big cases and not the original plastic ones. I don't want to have the centers crack like RWH and one I had do this in the past. I try to be so careful taking them out and putting them back in. When I did Fit Split, I just kept them out of the holder till I finished the rotation. There needs to be a better way of packaging . Today will be cardio. My abs were sore yesterday and some the day before. I think the Butts and Guts stability ball added a bit this week as I rarely get sore and could generally do abs every day:)

This morning I did ICE Rock ‘m Sock ‘m Kickbox. My workout was 49 minutes and 381 calories burned. Average heart rate was 136 and maximum heart rate 173.

Diane Sue, my digital mammogram was covered by my Medicare plan. I asked specifically when they asked me if I wanted that type. My dexascan was also covered. As Deb said, most plans provide preventative care like that.

Lori, Muscle Max is 65 minutes long. My time was longer because of pauses to change barbell plates, adjust weights, and record my weights used on my log.

Judy, I feel the same about the Ultimate Yogi. I like having the variety of yoga workouts but I know I won’t do the 108 day program.

Hi to Valerie and Deb. Have a wonderful day.

Carolyn strong work on Muscle Max. I remember that one as being challenging . Have not done it in years for the reasons you mention. I hate taking the big plates off DH's barbell and he sticks it right back on there so I have to do it every time.

Deb, we always take binoculars when we hike near water. both hikes yesterday were good for birds. Ducks are gorgeous when you can see detail. most are still winter plumage but for some ducks that is still beautiful.

My advantage plan is the same, they usually cover preventive measures. They keep pestering you on things like flu shots so it's almost a year- long assault. It took weeks after getting (and reporting the flu shot) last october before they stopped reminding me. Out here, retail pharmacies are in charge of immunizations and not all are prompt about reporting you received it. sometimes you have to enter it into your record yourself, or request it be done. The one thing they are not flexible on is dates. I think most schedulers are aware of the need to have a new procedure scheduled a full year after the last one.

I am finally losing some weight. DH being on a diet is helping. he is more amenable to zero point foods like fish so I don't have to cook separate meals. I stopped making ice cream, at least while we are in weight loss mode. we split a Healthy Choice fudge bar at night, with him getting 75% and me 25%. I have been circling around the same weight, up 1, down 2, up 2, for months without progress. suddenly I am down 5. YAY! Once I get the loss momentum going, I usually continue. it's been very hard to get into weight loss mode vs "staying the same" mode. I made some steelhead trout last night that looks and tastes a lot like salmon. DH didn't love it but thought it was OK. I thought it was delish.

Today I did Kelly Coffey Cardio Pump workout #1, 30 minutes, heart rate average 147, max 176, 201 calories, 2,881 steps, met 6.1. I used 1# weights. I then did Kelly's Total Body Kickbox workout #1 , 30 minutes, heart rate average 140 average , 181 max, 2,821 steps, 198 calories, and used 1# gloves. I finished off with Sarah Beth Yoga on You Tube, 15 minute morning yoga, 33 calories. Total time was 75 minutes, calories 440. My Fit Bit was higher on calories today than my Map My Fitness App.

Judy, I will have to check and see if they will replace the disc. Fortunately I have that series downloaded. I had this happen quite some time ago and they replaced the dvd, but I am not sure how long I had the dvd. I am sure even if the workout was not much of a calorie burner, that it was effective.

Deb, I spent a little time with the dvd player this morning and pulled up Vimeo and logged in, but since I do not have anything in my subscriptions I couldn't pull up anything. I think the mirroring from my tablet might be easier. The dvd player has an icon for screen mirroring.

Carolyn, nice calorie burn on that workout. I think my Fit Bit was more efficient today than normal. That would be great if I did not have to pay the extra to gt the digital imaging done.

Valerie, I have a supplement and not an advantage program. So far they have not bothered me at all. The only thing I keep getting is lots of mailings trying to get me to purchase cancer insurance. That is great that the scale numbers are moving down finally. I think I would just give my husband the fudge bar. It would not be worth having just a taste to me and wishing for more :) I bought home a box of Girl Scout Cookies for my husband today and refused any. I am probably the odd person, but they do not taste as yummy as I remember them tasting when I was younger.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was Hardstrikes and I also did the weight work afterwards. Seemed kind of overkill after Pull the day before. I used hand weights for the boxing so going into the weights my arms were really tired from the workout and weights the day before. She used 8lbs and at times I needed to drop to 5’s. My arms were exhausted! This was my only workout. I need to pack tonight. Going to visit my girlfriend in CT. She is the first of the group to be a grandmother so a few of us are going to visit her and the baby. Will be fun as we have been best friends for 50 years and we pretty much talk every day. I was the first to have a baby and she is the first grandmother so this is exciting for us. I will be home sunday afternoon, a quick trip.

Judy...I am sure at some point I will break down and buy a few more Barlates dvds. These new workouts sound great. I love high reps and yes you feel the burn. They really have helped sculpt my arms nicely. Going to wait until after I receive the KCM workouts though. I am loving FIT Split and love WS3. Between these, the Fit Tower workouts and new KCM. I have more than enough at the moment!

Deb...I have decided my next rotation will be Fit tower dvds, Live and Fit Split weighted workouts. I was talking with my son on our way home tonight (we rode in together) and we were discussing what I should do. Love talking fitness with him. My husband and friends could care less! He is still doing awesome with Body Beast. I am so proud. :D I am going to actually type the rotation out. Leaving the cardio days as cardio of choice so I can do what I feel like at the moment.

Caroyln...that is why I love my weighted bars. No changing weights! I only have a 20 and 25lb. Thinking I may get a 30lb one. If I need heavier than what I have I use dumbbells. I always hated changing plates!

Valerie...congrats seeing the weight loss. Awesome you always have binoculars. Makes complete sense. The wildlife you see amazes me.

Diane Sue...wow what a great combination of workouts. I love the variety. Good you have RWH downloaded so you still have the workouts. Just no premixes. Hoping CS will help you.

Have a great night all. I will not be checking in tomorrow but will Sunday at some point!

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did Fit Split Low Impact Cardio/Metabolic Conditioning (Lori's Mix) and this afternoon I did Yin Yoga. I plan on taking a rest day tomorrow.

Deb-I agree about Chris not taking bp meds. He's never had high bp but it's right at 120/80. We don't have any special plans this weekend.

Carolyn-Great job with Rock'm Sock'm! Great calorie burn!

Valerie-Great job with the weight loss! Steelhead Trout sounds good. I don't think I've had that before.

Diane Sue-Nice workouts today! It's good that you have RWH downloaded, but hopefully they will replace the DVD too.

Lori-Your next rotation sounds good! I like the weighted bars too. I should get another one. Hope you have a fun trip!

The steelhead looks just like salmon. trout I always thought, was mild and white. this was from a big fish. we had a small fillet. No bones. I baked it and put a citrus sauce on top. Plus some roasted yellow beets and Brussels sprouts. It was GOOD. Judy I don't fish myself, but steelhead are caught locally here, as are salmon. this was a farmed fish we ate. I would have tried it long before but DH has been so resistant to anything resembling salmon that it was a lost cause. Since his numbers came back so crummy, he decided he will eat it. It was a delicious moist tender piece of fish. there are lots of stronger flavored sauces I can use to camouflage the flavor for him a little. He is not going to tolerate statin drugs so diet is our best and only option.

Took the day off Friday. tired and didn’t sleep well.

The healthy choice bars are 80 calories so if I get a fourth of one, it is 20 or 25 calories It is my big indulgence! No way does DH get the whole thing!! He would eat Girl Scout cookies happily. I quit eating any of them years ago, IMO they aren’t worth the calories. if I don’t buy them , he won’t eat them this year. won’t miss them either.

We always take binoculars along on hikes and rides. Makes every trip more interesting. Last year we saw an otter in the same area and always water birds. Makes every hike a chance to see something beautiful. we have big and small binoculars and also a spotting scope. the scope is a little cumbersome to take on walks but we use it sometimes too.

Deb, I think I'd need to get another set of plates for a different barbell. I think the hole in the plates I have now is the wrong size for the bar cathe uses. Not totally sure about that... we have the screw on "nuts" (PITA) and also a slide on kind of round thingie that has a spring like feel to it. it goes on and off pretty easily.
I was surprised at how expensive dumbbells have gotten when I looked for a few to have in Montana. a dollar a pound basically, unless you buy a really big set. Sears always used to be a good source but I don't think there are any stores left around here, and the sporting goods places don't offer any good deals.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM Strength & Stamina Wk #1. I really liked it a lot. Will be doing the other one this coming week.

Diane Sue, I would not be upset either if I had to pay a small amount to get the digital mammogram, if that is what I usually get. That's too bad about the cracking disk. I sometimes have a hard time getting them out as well. I hope they replace the DVD for you. Yes, mirroring is the only way I can get the Chromecast to work. I use my phone to open Cathe Live and mirror it to the TV. If you can do that with YouTube, you should be able to do it with any streaming. My FitBit is so weird too. This morning I went upstairs twice, and it didn;t count either one. Some days I get 19 floors, when I know that is impossible.

Valerie, great that you are seeing the scale move! Have you thought about getting a separate barbell? I really like the Troy one that Cathe uses, it's only 5 pounds, and there are these clips that snap off and on so easily, that changing the plates is not a big deal. Also like Lori mentioned, the weighted bars are great, just have to grab it and go! Good to be able to have one set up and ready with a weight that you use frequently. I have a 15 and 18, then an old regular type bar set at 20. I use my Troy for heavier and it is set at 35.

Lori, your trip sound like fun! Would love to see your rotation typed out....if you use Word or something like that could you send me a copy?: I need something to inspire me!

Judy, 120/80 sounds perfect to me. Great that you are getting yoga in frequently and it is helping.

Hi to Carolyn...

Take care,

Lori, your time with friends sounds like fun . That is great that you have life long friends and are still in touch.

Judy, nice workout. I think the yin yoga is great for really getting a good stretch. It took me a long time to accept the slowness and not getting an active calorie burn from it. I love it now.

Valerie, your dinner sounds delicious. I love good seafood. Most of the time when I eat a nutrition or snack bar it is a collegen bar like Bullet Proof Shortbread which I love, or one with lots of nuts like primal kitchen collagen bars. I also buy RX bars that are egg whites, dates, nuts, and fruit oor something. They are my go to when I am too busy to eat, or after a workout. The bullet proof bars have a lot of fat though and I purchase one as a treat when I go to the store. They have other flavors, but this is my favorite.

Deb, I dont need to mirror youtube. I just turn on the dvd player and click the app. There are even other quick apps I can add, but not the ones I want. There are some Fitness apps. I went through the list on the dvd player yesterday. I guess it is a learning process.

Today I did Fit Tower Advanced Boot Camp followed by Fit Tower legs, flutes, and core standing leg work . Workout was 67 minutes. I will post details when I get home. I am headed out with dh to stain some doors at church.

Today is a rest day. I had an appointment this morning but it was time for a day off. My mind wasn’t really on working out this morning. My 40 year old nephew had a heart transplant last night. I was so shocked to get the family text this morning that my sister sent on the way to the airport. He lives here, but is being treated out of state. The procedure went very well. Now we can only hope that things continue to go well.

Deb, great job with Strength and Stamina 1. I liked it too. I haven’t had a chance to do the second workout yet.

Valerie, that’s wonderful that you are seeing positive results with your weight loss. It certainly helps to have both of you eating the same thing. The steelhead trout sounds delicious and adding sauces/drizzles keeps it interesting.

Lori, enjoy your visit with your friends. It sounds like a wonderful weekend. Your planned rotation sounds like a good one.

Judy, it’s good that yoga is helping your back.

Diane Sue, it does take getting used to slow yoga and not getting much of a calorie burn. I have come to recognize that my body is getting other benefits.

Have a great day everyone.
