Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/18

thank you all for the anniversary wishes. we did dinner out with cousin last night and had a pleasant afternoon and evening. they decorated their condo this year and it looks very nice. I'm content with looking at other peoples' decorations. DH and I never really got into decorating much, but when we had guests, we did more. quiet for us, no guests this year.

Did a 35 minute spin x-train premix , way better than nothing.

I was surprised to see my very old stuff show up on WW again. Last year I could not enter anything new that stayed put and all the older recipes, foods, meals from previous disappeared after showing up briefly on my ipad, but not on my desktop or phone. they have added a recommended "consult" phone call to the online program, during the first month. I want to use it in a week with a list of questions.

Carolyn I will ask about how to deal with "sugars" especially on older data that didn't include it. the calculation won't happen if you don't fill the box with a number. I plan on plugging in a low number, like "2" on dishes without added sweetener just to get a number for the dish. "close" will be good enough. I have difficulty with grain & bean dishes fitting into the points. my first meal was 11 points and it was low calorie but had rice and beans. Do you have any suggestions? I will be asking for assistance from WW on this. It seems that if the calorie count is reasonable for a meal, like 400 cal for a dinner, that it should be Ok to use

Deb, going back to the GP is a good idea. You seem to be getting nowhere fast.
I haven't gotten any notifications yet, and no sign of the calendar so far. I keep reminding myself to take a look at "suits" if I can find it.

Diane sue glad you liked the " Walk' movie. we agree, a pleasant movie but not one I'd watch multiple times. If you have never seen the "Wild" it's much more interesting. Cheryl Strayed walking the pacific crest trail, the reasons that got her there. We watched 'Spotlight" 2 nights ago and enjoyed it a lot. It was the one about the Boston Globe uncovering the child sexual abuse by priests that was covered up for so long. it's a very good movie. that one is a little hard to follow the first time, so this was the second time we watched it. We also finished the first season of "Better Call Saul" the precursor to Breaking Bad. there is another season of it so we re watched season 1 to get reminded of the characters. we enjoyed it more the second time. that butter "catch" too funny... be careful... you can react without thinking.

Lori I am trying to picture what using a rebounder would look like. I probably will not get one but who knows? sounds like something to try before buying. I will get my step... the package is hard to hide! expect this will expand my use of many workouts I ruled out because they were hard to do on the high step. we also had the very cold temps for a few days, some snow, then abrupt transition to rain. on my ....what a mess for a few hours. It cleared up quickly but a lot of crashes early on. so nice to be retired and not forced out into rush hour.

I started my day with an early dental appointment and I have been on the go since then. It feels good to finally sit down and relax. I didn't get in my workout this morning but I've gotten in a lot of walking.

Valerie, it takes a little while to adjust your thinking for beans and grains, but I eat them and count the points. My serving size is usually 1/2 cup, but yours might be more if you are not eating meat. I stopped eating oatmeal for a few months after the new plan started, but now I have it 2-3 times a week. It is usually 11 points after I add 1 TBSP hemp seeds, a teaspoon of maple syrup, and 2 tsp of coconut butter, and I cook it in almond milk. Don't forget that you have your weekly points in addition to daily allowance. The option to chat with someone for assistance is helpful. It's a good plan to write your questions in advance.

Lori, your tree is beautiful. I have been so tempted to buy a Jump Sport and to add to the pressure, Costco online has been selling them for $100 less for the past few weeks. I think that promotion ended yesterday. I had a hard time resisting, but I really don't know where I would keep it.

I got my notification for Strong and Sweaty this morning. It just says the shipping label created. I

Valerie, thanks for the movie suggestion. My husband did not care for Walk in the Woods but he said he figured it would be something I liked. We have Spotlight. It is another I purchased for him to watch. I have not watched it. I feel so ill when I think of child sexual abuse and those that prey on them. How distorted their mindsets are. My husband started purchasing Designated Survivor from Vudu after he saw the pilot. I have watched a bit of it. I am always up and down so full concentration is not there. It seems interesting. I saw today that he has missed the last 3 episodes unless he has watched them on television. He purchased them to catch up on the season. It is kind of nice purchasing a season because there is no waste of time with ads. So far I have watched nothing today yet. I did some reading and mostly hanging out on the computer. It is really the most fun to decorate when I have family and guests to enjoy it. I do have my 16 year old granddaughter here this week but the little ones have not been over. I couldn't watch my 2 year old grandson this weekend because I would be chasing him up and down the stairs and carrying him around when he gets into things he shouldn't

Carolyn, I just lean my rebounder up against a wall or my spin bike. On it's side it does not require much room.

It's so hard to recommend movies..... so many likes and dislikes a lot of which don't make a lot of sense, which I'll be first to admit. Awards don't mean of anything and some favorites never got any critical attention. "bad" language or graphic violence are negotiable for me. sometimes Ok, other times not...... depends on how it's handled.
In Spotlight, they talk about events that occurred, but it's mostly "just the facts" viewed objectively and rationally from a news perspective. no one tries to recreate events, or talk in too much graphic detail. it's more about good reporting and journalism, really. disturbing how long and so many people involved in covering this up for decades. and even the boston globe missed it the first time and were delayed on a second chance due to events of 9/11. I recommend this one when you want to watch a serious rather than popcorn movie.

Carolyn that is the issue... the amount and frequency of grain, beans. a half cup of one is not much, and usually I have grain and beans together. I eat chicken and some fish, but mostly more vegetarian focus. I only focused on the daily points and pretty much ignored any extra ones. even then, I lost very very slowly. very resistant metabolism, and I have to be hungry at night ( when I wake up at midnight) or else I'm not losing.

Calendar came but I won't open it yet. I didn't see a notice for the DVD's but it's possible DH took it off the inbox.

all of the trees and decorations are just lovely. I'm jealous!

I just checked and Costco still has the Jumpsport 550i for $399 until December 25. It includes the bar and two sets of DVDs. I think I learned about this from Suzanne Bowen's blog.

Valerie, I will probably watch Spotlight eventually then. I was just worried about what the content would be. I know it has had good reviews and my husband seemed to like it. I'm sorry, I sat through a seminar with my husband once for child abuse and the horrible pictures and the things people do that is literally torture was just way too much for me. I avoid it. The actors drew me as well when I picked that movie. I can take some language. Some movies would not be authentic taking it all out. Particularly military movies. Comedies do not need it to be funny. I can ignore at times if the movie is good.
Speaking of eating, I think I need to get my calories down a bit more. between what my Fit Bit says and MFP says I am over eating calorie wise. When I can cook for myself I think I can keep the protein up and calories down a bit better. Holidays are not helping. My granddaughter brings me home chocolates. Her aftercare children keep bringing her goodies.

Carolyn, that sounds like a great deal on the Jump Sport with the bar and dvds! Are you going to get one ?

diane sue I think you would like Spotlight... it's based on good investigative journalism ....finding out the church was methodically and systematically moving priests around to avoid prosecution, involving a whole lot of perpetrators. ( not spoilers here, I think that is common knowledge) they do not get into graphic details / testimony about particular cases. as they make clear..... they are going for institutional problems, not just a couple of bad guys, because as it turns out, there are WAYmore than 1 or 2. a few victims say in general terms what happened to them. I don't like to watch movies that will give me nightmares! I don't mind if movies drop the f-bomb etc when appropriate but I don't have tolerance for movies that use it as 50% of the dialogue. so I don't like things "overly sanitized", but I also don't want to listen to a cheap script based mostly on variations of one word. Agree about military movies...if people really say ...."please pass the f*ing salt" in normal conversation, then taking it out is overly sanitizing but a movie needs to include more content than just that.

Did a small section of X-train burn sets only about 25 minutes or so. time got away from me today.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I took the car in the morning, did some grocery shopping, then went to the Dr appointment. That was very disappointing, and frustrating to say the least. My PCP thinks I should go on a stronger PPI. The GI DR does not think its an acid problem. So who do you believe?

Diane Sue, 3 movies in a day....that is something, but you are smart to rest and relax. It will pay off in the end. Good that the butter incident did not hurt you.... That Turkey Pot Pie soup sounds good. Right now I am gluten & dairy free so something like that will have to wait. Like Gertie, Keegan likes to chew on a toy, on my foot!

Valerie, I feel the same about decorations....no one to see them but us. Suits is a pretty good series...have to start with the first season, of course.. Another really good series is A Place to Call Home...If you can get that on Netflix...not sure. I have an addition to Prime called Acorn TV which has all the British shows, this is one. It is also on Masterpiece Theater, but you can't get the past seasons there. It is now in season 4.

Carolyn, maybe a Christmas present is in the making? ( or early birthday and Christmas combined? :).

I will try a workout, then it's dog food making day....

Take care,

Deb, I am sorry the dr. Visit did not help. It is frustrating when you know that you are not feeling well. That is odd that you are getting two different ideas. It seems since you already tried the medicine and it did not work that the doctor would not be giving you more. Stress does a lot and just having to worry over it does not help. Maybe the nutritionist will help. I think I know the pain you are having . I had it occasionally years ago. I could workout through the reflux but when I had that pain I wanted to do nothing but curl up in a ball to try to get it to stop. Things seemed to get better after I stopped daycare for other people's children and mine grew up. I still kept grandchildren but migraines and reflux started getting better. Then dietary changes with the alkaline diet pushed it further away. Maybe gut healing? I loved the children but, stress over time can do a lot.. I tend to be a huge worrier and stress over things that may never happen. There are places that you can get more complete labs done but I imagine it comes out of your pocket.
I was thoroughly frustrated after several doctor visits and labs earlier this year trying to get an answer to my extreme exhaustion. Never got am answer. My daughter thinks maybe it is my body working overtime with the lymph nodes doing crazy stuff.

Carolyn that sounds interesting but 11 points is a lot for breakfast, isn't it? just wondering...... I try to keep it to about 6 so I can have a mid morning snack. usually an apple with a little pb. Does that "hold you" until lunch? I always seem to get hungry around 10 and DH always eats then so it's hard to skip it entirely. I made a new dish for dinner last night that I thought would be 'light" but point wise was not. it was pretty tasty though, and had a lot of vegetables, and small bits of halloumi cheese, new for me. I'll put in a link later if I can find it. I like Eating Well for interesting ideas and try to test several new things a month.
http://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/255795/winter-salad-with-halloumi-croutons/

It was high in points but is only 402 calories, so I tracked it. I used a regular spring mix lettuce blend and walnuts instead of hazelnuts. stayed at 30 for the day.

we watched another movie last night "Joy" with Jennifer Lawrence, Robert de niro, Bradley cooper. It was pretty much a mess. I would not sit through it again. the first half was especially annoying. J Law has had her nose "done". disappointed me as I thought she had such an attractive and distinctive face. I wish women weren't so quick to change things like that.... we watched another british series a short time ago and the female lead did the same thing between seasons, came back with the bridge of her nose trimmed down. again , I thought the "before" was better than the "after".

Deb, that is certainly a confusing spot to be in. I wish I had some ideas.
I am not sure we get acorn. there is so much available it's hard to be sure unless you specifically look for a name.

Hi Everyone,
Today I did Party Rockin Step 2. It was a fun step workout and I like it better than Step 1. The choreography is not as complex.

I haven't received a shipping notification for the new DVDs yet, not that I would have time to look at them. Maybe I'll hear something soon.

Valerie, the daily points work fine for me. I am usually between 28-32 for the day. I eat a lot of zero point vegetables and the chicken, turkey, and fish are very low points. Even lean beef and pork are pretty low points. If I have a snack it's apple with nut butter or lean protein and 7 almonds. I have my splurges when I have the urge because I believe that constant denial is counter productive. The Eating Well recipe looks delicious. My lunch salads look similar just no croutons. I have greens, protein, some type of seasonal fruit plus a few nuts or seeds.

Once I get my trees up I really enjoy them. Diane Sue, ours are not fancy either. The decorations on the main tree are things that we have accumulated over the years with red, gold, and white ornaments. I am not much of a movie or television person but there are a few shows that I like. Designated Survivor is a good show. I am two episodes behind but will catch up soon.

I'm not going to order the Jumpsport.

We went mt biking this morning for 1 hr 20 min. it was really too cold. there was snow and ice in places, but you can ride over it carefully not too fast.
The halloumi cheese was interesting. it doesn't melt, gets warm and salty/ chewy. was very good on the salad. a lot of flavor for a very small amount, 1 oz per person. the package is pricey but a little goes a long way.

I did rock out Knockout and my upper body which means back, biceps and triceps
My doctor told me never to do my shoulders
When I went to Staten Island. I forgot my pain pills at my friend Bills I also took my daughter out to lunch and spent spent a lot of money on her
Sometimes Frank has to helped out of bed. I don't know what I would do without pain pills and muscle relax D

Good morning!

Been really busy at work. Had our office holiday party this week. We have it in the office and it always fun. We decorate and our executive Chef always prepares a delicious meal. Yankee swap and beer and wine too. :) Fun but a lot of coordination. No workout this morning. My husband's office party is today so he will be home late so I opted to relax this morning and workout tonight. I was able to download the new videos last night and I am previewing on my laptop as I type this on my ipad. Multitasking! Someone posted they are already up on the On Demand for those of you that have that.

Carolyn...I think I may have tried Party Rocking Step 2 once. I know this one was less complex but was still too much for me! Our tree this year is purple and gold. My husband is a Minnesota Vikings fan so that sums it up. :). We do not have a Costco in this area. I wish we did. My jumpsport did not come with the handle bar. It is an $80 add on that I was going to get later on. But decided not too. I use my Fit Tower and it works perfectly. I do put a couple of heavy dumbbells on the bottom for support when I do the SB workouts. Works well and it gives me another way to use my Tower! :)

Caitlin...that must have been terrible traveling without pain meds. Hope all is good now.

Valerie...it has been so cold and icy here. Can't imagine mountain biking! Good for you two. You amaze me with your outdoor activities. A coworker is starting WW soon and is asking people to join her. It is such a great program. I have a couple of lbs that are starting to creep up. I am going to start 21d fix eating plan after Christmas. Need to get back to portion control and balance. Holidays are always tough for me!

Deb...so fustrating with the Doctors. How long now have you been dealing with this?? I am not much of a decorator either. My husband did most of the tree. I just put the garland on. The rest was him.

Have a great day all...back to reviewing the workouts. One of the downloads is the cardio slam with the modifications which is nice to see options. I originally did not think she was offering this premix to the downloads. Thank you Cathe!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Push Pull Total Body. Another good one!

Diane Sue, The tree is beautiful, and a nice pic of your grandson putting on the angel. :). I started on a supplement called GI Revive yesterday. Maybe this will help, we'll see. It sounds like a lot of your reflux issues were about stress. I sometimes think that is my problem. Maybe too much time on my hands to "think" since I retired. I need to be more busy outside the house.

Valerie, Acorn TV is an add-on for Prime. It's $5 a month. It's a bargain if like me, you have to get DVD's from the library. No series in 1 DVD, most are 4 or more, and at a $1 each, getting Acorn is a better deal. I really wish the second season of The Killing would be free on Prime. I don't think I would enjoy biking in snow and ice....brrrrr.....

Carolyn, I read over on the other forum that not everyone gets a shipping notice, the DVD's just show up.

Caitlin, sorry about your shoulder and not remembering your pain pills. I hope you had a good time with your daughter.

Lori, what did you think of the new workouts? Purple is my favorite color but would never have thought of using it on a Christmas tree. It looks great! I really am looking forward to seeing the premix with the small box that has Cathe doing modifications. She is so ahead of everyone else when it comes to that kind of stuff. I have been having this issue since September 1.

Not sure what is up for today, I told John I want to go for a walk outside, hope the weather cooperates. I think I need to breathe fresh air, get some sunshine...

Take care,
