Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/18

Yesterday I had my granddaughter in and out. She came in and heated us soup and we watched a Christmas movie. My Grandson came over shortly after she left and brought the ham that we had ordered for his yearly wrestling fundraiser. These are great hams that are very lean, and even the sodium and sugar I not bad. He spent the rest of the afternoon into the evening here. I had him bring the presents downstairs and put them under the tree and we watched the newer Ghostbusters movie. It was entertaining and silly. Not as good as the older ones at all. I went through so many movies yesterday that I would start and decide I wasn't in the mood for them. After my husband came home we watched two Christmas movies. One was the usual lame movie. I don't think they budget much for Christmas movies. The other was pretty good though. Christmas Spirit about a woman who falls in love with a ghost.

Deb, I hope those GI Revive supplements help you. Stress affects us more than we probably think that it does. I wanted to watch War Room and found it on Amazon but it was only free if I had one of those channels that you pay the monthly fee for. Do they take it out automatically every month? Both of my older grandsons were putting the ornament on the tree. They were arguing on who gets to do it. The other looks like a ghost on the stairs with the light from below shining on him :)

Valerie, I tried to find the Wild movie on Netflix and Amazon and couldn't find it. Maybe I need to go through Vudu movies. I was going to watch Spotlight but with my 16 year old grandchildren hanging around I thought it might be inappropriate. I may wait till Tuesday when my husband is working. It seems like with the cast for Joy it would have been a good movie. That is not always the case though. I think it is hard for Actors to change their looks when they are being viewed all of the time. Deep Water Horizon with Mark Wahlburg is out on Vudu for purchase. I want to see it but think I will wait till it is for rent.
I think I have saw that cheese in the deli area of Sprouts. I buy different cheeses there. I like it when they are not full of extra stuff and are fresh. I got some of the best ricotta there that was packed in a little basket inside the container for a recipe. That salad sounds good. I would like the hazelnuts in it. I substitute whatever nuts I have on hand sometimes though.
It was nice that you were still able to get out for a bike ride. You probably burn lots of extra calories just being out in the freezing weather. Eating Well does have good recipes. I like trying new recipes and flavors.

Carolyn, I am not much a television or movie watcher either. I have not had any that I have really paid much attention to in awhile. I just catch some of it while I am in the kitchen or sitting with my tablet in my lap. I have paid more attention to Designated Survivor though. It was an interesting last episode. I was wondering if they are done with the first season already. I hope not.
I did have a couple of small artificial trees that I would decorate but I gave one to my daughter for her classroom at school once and didn't care to get it back. The other seems to be lost in the attic or something. I have several things that do not seem to be here so they must be up there. We have homemade ornaments that the grandchildren have made. Some were ones the older 5 had made when younger with their pictures in them. We had sent a small tree and the ornaments to my husband when he was in Iraq one Christmas. He said the guys really loved it as well. So those ornaments always go on our tree. Like you they are ornaments collected over the years.

Lorie, the work Christmas party sounds nice. I saw the download link last night. Maybe I will start working on them today. Did you download wirelessly or did you do a wired download? Can you stop and restart if it takes too long? When I did Ripped with Hiit I remember having a problem and them sending me something to do it again. Somehow I had missed one of the workouts.

Caitlin, could you have your friend Bill send you your medicines or find a doctor to call some in for you? I hope you are doing okay. Shopping with your daughter sounds fun.

Deb, we can't use prime because it doesn't work with apple Tv. doesn't mean the programs aren't available somewhere on Netflix but will take some looking. we watched another movie yesterday. really awful. Money Monster. DH put that on the queue because it had "good people" in it. Ugh.
diane sue, there would be no problem with a 16 yr old watching Spotlight, IMO. I think most teens would just be bored with it. it is more about journalism, people persisting in getting records and 'decoding" the words used to keep the abusers from being found out. and deciding not to go after a few, realizing that there were a LOT more people involved, that the coverup was institutional. it's an intelligent adult movie. I really enjoyed it. They do say there was sexual abuse but it doesn't get graphic or detailed.

Lori we thought all the snow and ice was melted but no.. patchy, in open areas without tree cover. never rode over crunchy snow like that before. it was fine but we were careful. would not want to do anything abrupt, like stop suddenly. this area has trails that connect the road areas and those are closed for the season so riding is limited. temps turned out OK on the uphill, but pretty cool on the down, and we weren't going as fast as usual due to those frozen areas. companies make mt bikes with gigantic 'tready" tires specifically to ride in snow or beach sand. they are expensive and IMO would still be sketchy if it were icy. I might try renting one if we are in a good area. they are expensive and limited use.

I am also not a decorator. totally inept. I enjoy what other people do but I don't do it myself.

Off to do grocery shopping. not sure if we will do something for xmas dinner for ourselves . maybe lasagna.

Lori what is a Yankee swap? a gift exchange? a drink?? I am having way better luck with WW so far. last year was such a mess! Carolyn thank you for saying it works OK again. after last year I was not sure I'd try it again.

This morning I did Power Hour. I've spent the rest of the day making Christmas cookies. I plan to give some to my neighbors.

Valerie, I'm so glad that WW is working well for you now. They continue to make improvements to the site and the app. I logged in to the site earlier this week and noticed that it looks different. I use the app most times and rarely go to the full site unless I want to enter a recipe.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

I got my dvds today too. I can preview before I get the downloads done:) I am still hunting for a cable to wireless lyrics download from my laptop. I found what I thought was an ether net cable but it doesn't work on my laptop.

Valerie, thanks that is good to know Spotlight would be okay. Occasionally we watch movies like Whitehouse Down and and London is Falling and their parents are okay with them. Language is usually not a huge problem. Generally I watch first though if I am unsure. I think I will enjoy it.

Carolyn, sugar cookies go quickly when my family is around i usee my grand mothers recipe for whoppin bIG sugar cookies. I do not know why I am getting caps when I typed lower case on big.

Deb, I will love heating thoughts on the workout :)

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did Ice low impact sweat 1&2 followed up with SB Bis and Tris. I quickly reviewed the new workouts but wanted to look at them a little more today. I am going to start with them on Saturday. I am liking the looks of Cardio Slam! This may be the first one I do.

Yeah...seems like dvd's are arriving today. Very nice!

Deb...the modifications look great and I like the box. Although I would not say it is a small box. Bogger than what I anticipated. It only stays up for a little bit and then goes away. I am going to see how much I can do without pmodications. Fingers crossed! September 1 to now is a long time. Hoping you get resolution soon. This is the first year with a purple tree. All the glass ball ornaments are purple too. My husband is very please with himself! All seriousness though it really looks pretty!

Dianne Sue...I downloaded wirelessly with no problems. Took about 30 minutes I think. Figured I'd try once and if it gave me issues I would stop and try again today. To my surprise it went well. Last year like you I had issues and needed to contact Cathe.com too. Funny I had one too that did not download and they resent a code.

Valerie...so funny never gave it any thought others may not know what a Yankee Swap is. Perhaps it is a New England thing due to the name? A group of people...for simplicity l'll use 10 people all buy a gift and wrap. Placed on table. Same 10 people pick from a hat a number 1 thru 10. Number 1 goes first and selects a gift. Number 2 selects a gift and if he does not like he can steal and swap number 1's gift. Then number 3 selects a gift and if he does not like he can steal/swap number 1 or 2's gift. This continues until number 10 is up and selects/steals. Then after everyone is done...number 1 now has the pick of the crop and can steal/swap from everyone else. It really is a lot of fun. I remember your struggles last year with WW!! Here is hoping all is worked out!

Carolyn...Power Hour...another oldie. Great job! I love Christmas cookies. I actually like all cookies if I must confess!

Have a great night!!!!

I did Flex train again. I backed off on weight a little and did it with 5's and 8's but did the burpees. I got sore from doing the upper body weights 2 days ago so didn't need too much. Nope, never heard of yankee swap. I guess I was thinking it was like a new England iced tea or something.

Good morning,

A nice day yesterday, we did a lot of errands, then last night we walked to the local coffee house that had a jazz guitarist playing, had some delicious soup and tea while listening. It was a pleasant evening.

Diane Sue, that is so sweet that your granddaughter served you soup and watched a movie with you. Not your typical teenager. I had a really good day yesterday, not sure if it was the GI Revive, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is. Yes, for the extra channels on Prime, they automatically charge your credit card. Acorn is only $5 a month. Right now they have a special where you get the first week free. You can try it while you are having to rest so much...and if you don't want it after a week, very easy to cancel right on line on your Prime account. It has such good shows...I really like British TV. I think you would like A Place to Call Home. It is in Australia, right after WW2....a great story.

Valerie, is Apple TV the only way you can watch TV shows? I really don't understand how Apple TV works or what it is...Lasagna for Christmas dinner sounds wonderful...then again you are right...not WW friendly, but hey, it is Christmas right? Not gluten free either...:(.

Lori, great that the downloads were pretty easy this time. We do that "Yankee swap" at our dog club Christmas party...( I never heard it called that though)...we had to put a rule in that you could only steal the same give one time! We don't unwrap the gifts until all done with the swapping....so people are stealing based on the size and the wrapping...With 50 people and unlimited stealing, the gift exchange started to be 2+ hours!

Carolyn, that is so nice that you are giving Christmas cookies to your neighbors.

A workout, one of the new ones, and then we will see....John only works a half day today...but he has his luncheon for the worker's afterward.

Take care,

Deb, Apple TV is the device you stream to .....like a Roku or PlayStation, chrome stick. Apple TV works with Hulu, Netflix bunch of other services but not with prime. We tried a couple other devices but apple was the only one that worked. the other devices did not work at all but apple does. go figure!. Even though we are prime members, that part of the package is not accessible to us.

Bought a turkey breast to roast. too big for two so I will have serious leftovers, but that was the smallest one I could find. did not see any turkey "roasts" like I found at thanksgiving.

I don't avoid gluten or grains at all. I would have a difficult time going GF. My lasagne is vegetarian and pretty darn good but cheesey! cottage cheese, and parm with spinach mixed in. Not diet food although not bad if I keep the portions small. I want to try an appetizer with pears and Brie so "cheese"was getting too much of a role. I will do the turkey and try some new vegie sides. roasted brussels sprouts with pears and cranberries is one. then the baked pears with brie. I'll report any winners.

This morning I did JS 40 Minute Mega Burn walk. I used light weighted gloves to increase my calorie burn. I have not received my calendar or SS DVDs and I am getting worried. I updated my payment information after getting a new card and I am concerned that it caused a problem with my order. I emailed customer service last night to check.

Lori, we have done that gift swap at many parties and it was a lot of fun but we did not call it a Yankee swap. I'm not sure if we had a name for it. Like Deb, our group got to be much too large and it was taking 2 hours or more.

The cookies that I made were fruitcake cookies, ginger cookies and a new recipe from Fine Cooing called chocolate mudslide cookies. I didn't make sugar cookies since the grandkids are not here. Two of my neighbors were here when we moved in 18 years ago and we are close to them.

My girls are arriving this evening and I need to wrap a few gifts before they get here. Have a great day.

I did my downloads this morning. It did not take too long. I went through them to make sure they all seemed to be there in their entirety. I want to go through the videos as well and check the premixes and chaptering.

Lorie, I think Cardio Slam looks doable for me sooner than some of the others. I would just start out without weights and follow the modifiers. Spin of course. I want to look at the premixes. I don't know how you resisted. I am usually right in there doing one of the workouts even if I have no idea what they contain. This time of course I cannot do that. I downloaded wirelessly early this morning and it went fairly quickly. I did accidentally download the bootcamp workout twice and it downloaded both at the same time which slowed down my progress. After checking that the first one was all there I deleted the other one. I find I have the least problems with internet early in the morning. That is interesting that we both had the same thing happen downloading last time. I have done the same thing a lot of times as your Yankee Swap. I don't recall all of the names they used. One party was white elephant gifts with a church group. It was a lot of fun. I got a heart shaped pie plate with a cover that looked like strawberry pie. We used to have a family Christmas when we were first married where all of the adults played that game. They give a cost amount for gifts and then they would steal like that. It was a lot This was when all of my husbands family lived in California. I can only remember it being referred to as dirty santa but that is generally with gag gifts.

Deb, that sounds like a nice relaxing time out. I feel lucky with the sweet kind nature of all of my teen grandchildren. I am fortunate that they like to come over and spend time with us. My 16 year old grandson called one night recently when we were babysitting his younger brother and sister and asked if he could come over and watch movies with us. I was surprised since he was on his own that he didn't go hang out with his friends. I do hope the GI revive will help. Did your nutritionist recommend it or did you just discover it? Apple TV is much like ROKU I think. They may carry Acorn. Thanks for the information. Amazon has so many things that I have not really checked into.

Valerie, that is too bad Amazon doesn't let you get access to all of the Prime stuff. I know they seem to have some sort of feud with Apple and iTunes. When I had all my apple devices I had to go figure out how to access my Kindle stuff. It didn't allow it directly like most other apps. The same went for Amazon Apps store. I had to go into my settings on my Samsung phone and tablet to allow other apps access. I never mind having extra turkey breast. I just freeze it up in freezer bags proportionate to what I would need for a soup recipe or something like that. Those recipes sound really good. I am thinking though that the last time I tried brie I thought it tasted like dirt or something and was really disappointed. I love most cheeses. The family could never understand me liking blue cheese. The Brussels sprouts sounds like it would be really good.

Carolyn, I hope that there was not a problem with your delivery. It would seem when you paid that it would have been taken out right away. If there was a problem they would have emailed you. Enjoy your day and time with your girls later. Your baking sounds yummy.
I just saw that you did get your dvds :D Yeah!! I am hoping to see the guide soon.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did both SB's Barre Amped bounce workouts followed up with KCM barre portion of 10 minute lower. For the bounce I used 1.5 ankle weights and 4lb hand weights. Was a good workout. 240 calories for 38 minutes. Not as high as a power jump but the barre intervals in this really bite. Our office closed at 2pm today. Was a nice surprise.

Funny...in this area it has always been called a Yankee Swap!

Deb...that sounds like a really enjoyable evening. I can't imagine 50 people for the swap! We had 31 and that was plenty.

Carolyn...yeah for the dvd's. I downloaded and printed out the user guide. I like have a digital copy but also like having a hard copy of the guides. I print in color on a med weight card stock then wire bind at work. My coworkers always crack up. I also like using hand weights when doing JS walks. Really intensifies them. Your cookies sound delicious!

Valerie..great job on the burpees! Can you freeze the leftovers? I can only eat turkey for a couple of days then it gets old and I need a change!

Busy day tomorrow. Then going to my son's GF's parents home for Christmas Eve. We did this lastbyear and had a blast.

If I am unable to get to posting I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!!!!!!

Oh yes, I will freeze the leftovers. I like to use in soup & pot pie type of dishes, so refreezing won't hurt it. I can only look at a big chunk of turkey at dinner for 2 meals max. then it needs to get modified.

diane sue I think that is correct... amazon and apple don't play nicely together. we bought a ROKU and the chrome stick but got absolutely zero success, so they went back. apple worked right away. so we will stick with what works. we use enough Prime that it's still worth paying for.

Carolyn glad the disks showed up. I remember reading ( on another thread) that they had 50 extra calendars so if yours doesn't make it, check with customer service and you can probably still get one.
Haven't worked out yet today. we are getting snow unexpectedly and had to flip some things around but I can still do the hour before dinner.

I am sorry for my whining on Wednesday. It was just a crazy day. All I did today is 40 minutes on my lower body. My friend, Bill, the one who has brain cancer from Agent Orange in Viet Nam told me I was too small to use forty pound weights on my lower body. All I can say is that it helps keep my kneecaps in place. My running shoes did not come with me, and it is very hilly around here, so I can't run outside. I don't feel like joining a gym and paying 50 a month. This apartment here has seven rooms and beautiful wooden floors though the entire place except the bathroom. I am so lucky I have a nice wooden floor to do my workouts on. It is close to my Roman Catholic holidays so I don't think I am working out on Christmas Eve and Day.

Hi Everyone,

Monday I did KCM Plateau Buster Combined Premix, Wednesday I did Pure Strength Legs and Abs (I really love this workout!), and yesterday I did Strong & Sweaty-Ramped Up Upper Body & Bonus Abs.

Caitlin-you don't have to apologize at all. I hope you are feeling better today. The apartment sounds very nice. I love wood floors.

Deb-I hope the GI Revive is helping you. I'll have to take a look at that one. Is it anything like Renew Life? They have some good GI supplements too.

Carolyn-I haven't received my calendar yet either. I'm hoping it comes tomorrow. Did you get a shipping notice? I got one on the 15th.

Diane Sue-you have very nice and sweet grandchildren! I'm planning on doing Total Body Giant Sets and the spin workout this weekend.
I was very happy with Ramped Up Upper Body and the bonus abs. I couldn't match Cathe's weights but I will try to go heavier the next time.

Lori-I just printed the user guide too. There are some great premixes in S & S.

Valerie-it's too bad that Apple and Amazon don't work together. I tried the Amazon Fire TV stick a couple of years ago and had to send it back because it didn't work. Apple TV worked right away, no problems.

Judy

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Strong & Sweaty PHA Training. No previewing for me...I just jumped right in. A great workout! I downloaded the User's Guide and I really like that she mixed these with the ICE workouts for a rotation.

Valerie, that stinks that the Apple TV doesn't work with Prime. You are missing out on a great part of being a Prime member. I like the shipping aspect, but I don't think I would pay for it if that is all I got. I use my iPad and watch Prime shows on that. I Turkey leftovers are so useful....like you said, soup etc. As much as I want this issue resolved, I keep hoping it's nothing to do with gluten. I love my pasta and bread too!

Carolyn, glad your DVD's arrived! Have a great time with your girls. Where do they come from?

Diane Sue, I agree about Apple....the frustrating thing for me with them is that I can watch streaming on the big channels like CBS, ABC etc on the laptop computer, but cannot on the iPad....even with their so-called aps that you get from iTunes! :(. Yes, the GI Revive was recommended by the nutritionist. It worked wonderfully on Thursday, I had a great, almost symptom free day, but yesterday it was like I never took it.

Lori, I can't believe you didn't try one of the new workouts....Have fun at the GF's parents house today!

Caitlin, no need to apologize, we all have days like that. The apartment sounds great for doing workouts!

Judy, great workouts! I am not familiar with Renew Life...is that a brand you can purchase in a store or is it online? As for the GI Revive: Here is the description of it: "GI-Revive provides therapeutic levels of L-glutamine, N-acetyl-glucosamine, MSM, DGL, slippery elm, marshmallow, chamomile, okra extract, cat's claw (TOA-free), quercitin, and mucin for comprehensive support of optimal gastrointestinal health. Prune powder and citrus pectin are also included to aid regularity. GI REVIVE BENEFITS: Rejuvenates intestinal mucosal health and promotes proper intestinal ability

We will be going to my brother's house tonight, and to my cousin's tomorrow.

Have a wonderful holiday everyone!

This morning I did Strong and Sweaty Ramped Up Upper Body. I really liked that the entire upper is thoroughly worked. You use a wide variety of Dumbbells in this workout. I didn't match Cathe's weight on most exercises but I never do.

I received two very nice emails from customer service about my orders. My calendar order was misfiled but Bob sent it out yesterday. I am very happy with the responses.

Deb, my oldest daughter lives in New York and my youngest is in DC. Their flights arrived within 10 minutes of each other which was great. That digestive supplement sounds interesting. I will need to remember the name in case my husband needs something else. He is using 2 TBSP of aloe vera juice in a cup water which seems to be working for him.

We will have a turkey and ham for Christmas dinner with plenty of left overs which we all love. We have a very traditional southern holiday with a large meal and several desserts. My brother and his family will be joining so I am not too worried about too much food. My 24 year old nephew has a huge appetite!

Have a wonderful day.

Lori, that sounds like a nice grouping of bounce and barre work. I downloaded the guide and put it in Google drive on my Tablet. I use that a lot for the recent guides. I print as I go till I have all of the user guide and a buy a folder and label it for each guide so they are easy to find. I try to keep the folders different colors.

Valerie, I could probably use more Amazon Prime features but, I just use the shopping, video and music. I kind of quit purchasing movies from them because I couldn't download them to the ipad for my husband to watch when he was away from wifi. I would like to find a way to always have those movies and be able to download. I think I would like to try downloading the Vudu movies to an extrernal drive. I haven't tried it. I always worry the company will go out and all of the movie purchases will be gone. When I buy from Vudu and we want to purchase I try to do those that you pre-order and get to watch digitally right away. Walmart ships them when they are available. That way I have a hard copy. For some reason I cannot get Amazon Prime to work on my smart tv upstairs most of the time. I have tried to trouble shoot. I can use the prime button, see my purchases and movies, but they will not play. I would use it more if it worked. I let my youngest daughter's family use my Vudu account to watch some of the movies I purchased for when the grandchildren are here. The 2 year old loves the Good Dinosaur and I guess yesterday he was wanting to watch the Big Friendly Giant (BFG) . One good movie that was never in theaters that I know of but we have watched several times is Beyond the Mask. It is sort of a time movie which has a lot of history in it.

Caitlin, venting is cathartic. You don't need to apologize. I love wood flooring. Your apartment sounds nice. Did you leave some boxes behind that you could have shipped to you with your stuff in them?

Judy, from my preview it looked like Cathe used some pretty impressive weights on Total Body Giant sets. I missed that one when I downloaded and had to go back and download it. I have the dvd though. I will enjoy hearing your review.

Deb, I guess it would take some time to heal the gut. It is hard to understand how it just hit like it did and it is hit or miss. What could be different from one day to the other. I am sure you try to analyze it all of the time. Just thinking about it all of the time is probably a bit of a stressor. GI revive sounds like a good product. Enjoy your family time.

Carolyn, I have found that Cathe's staff is pretty quick to respond and help. We always have a pretty traditional meal on Christmas and Thanksgiving. Loads of pies and cookies, homemade candy. I am always over stuffed and there are loads of leftovers. Everyone has their favorite items that need to be on the table. I sent the cranberry sauce home with my daughter yesterday because it is the same can I purchased last year and I forgot to get it out two Thanksgivings and one Christmas. I do not eat it. I am surprised that some of the family members never complained.
