Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/13

Good evening ladies!

This morning was a power jump... I needed to shorten it a bit due to timing 35 minutes but still 302 calories so I was please with that. I then did a quick SB upper target. I have an early morning meeting then packing tomorrow so most likely no workout. I really wanted to get a workout in tomorrow since Saturday will be a travel day. Was notified of this meeting right when I was leaving the office. Need to leave the house at 6:30am. If I am up early enough I may get one in. Hard with the puppy though.

Diane Sue...glad MRI is done. I have had a couple and they do not bother me at all. I tend to fall asleep. We do have a beam in the basement that I am carefull to position the rebounder away from. I am 5'2" so it works out well for me to use it in the basement. My husband or son will not be able to at all. I have bought a lot of Cathe downloads the past few years. One year around Christmas she made the downloads really affordable so I took advantage. Since then, I have always bought both downloads and dvds when she has her presales. I have great collection of her downloads. With her new dvds this year I was gutsy and bought just the downloads.

Deb...18 people is a lot!!! Good for you!! I bet it is so much fun though. Yes I count steps since I have had my apple watch and easily average over 10,000 a day lately. Right now I just checked and I am at 14,722!! Today was extreme though.

Carolyn...I have nights like that. Good for you for still working out. I am the same way about morning workouts and glad to get them in and done. If I do not workout in the morning than chances are I will not be working out at all. I used to love my double workouts and really mss them. I have been so busy that I need to make my morning ones really count.

Valerie..glad your new DW is all installed. How old was the one that you just replaced? We looked at that third shelf and decided against it since it is only the two of us and I really do not cook much. I bet it is great though. So far our Bosch has done well. It does have so many features we will never use though. I really hope I do not have to replace it anytime soon. Don't want to go through that again. 20 minutes is better than nothing. So sorry about your friend. My brother if you remember also had pancreatic cancer has done well and still cancer free. Think it is coming up to 3 years now. Madeline has been doing great too and I am so thrilled.

Judy...I am glad you mentioned feeling that way about RWH. I like them but they are not my favorite by all means. I would love to go on a KCM convention or a Cathe roadtrip. One of these days I'll get to one.

Caitlin...great job on the 8in step. Most of my step workouts are done on 6 inch step. Pertect for my short legs!!!

Have a great night all!

Lorie have a safe trip. I did Step in my granddaughter's r [om when I visited from out of town. Her ceiling is very low. That room in their home is almost all underground. If I jumped very high I could tap the ceiling. I like things set and planned ahead. But, those last minute things happen.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Strong Upper Body Express. The painting is done! A little stress yesterday, when the painter went to put the dining room light up, we found out that it was the wrong light! I was so upset...he had the old one down and tossed, and he was going to leave right afterwards as he had planned to go fishing in the afternoon. I called the store and they had the right one in stock, told me to come over and they would switch it. He ended up going out to lunch while I did the exchange, and he never did go fishing. I felt horrible. Well, it's DONE!

Carolyn, that's smart to do a workout instead of tossing and turning. I get up so early already ( somewhere between 4:00 & 5:00 am) every day, any earlier and I would be a zombie. mmm...apple bars sound good.

Diane Sue, things have been a bit better, I have a couple of good days, then one that is not so good. I am off the meds now...(at least the last 3 days without any) and am trying the apple cider vinegar thing...not sure if I am doing it right. It does not seem to help, so maybe will have to quit that. I hope your intestinal issue goes away...I agree, maybe too much fruit, especially grapes. Funny how dogs will catch on to the things they need to do to get a treat...and do them repeatedly until they get what they want. They have us trained for sure. :). I saw the clip you posted....I don't think I would like her workouts...does she say anything?

Valerie, so sorry about your friend. I bet she would appreciate a visit from you. Glad the DW went in easily and that you like it. We bought the bigger turkey yesterday, (23 pounds), and my cousin is giving me a 13 pound one that she had and decided she didn't want to cook. That gives us enough so everyone can take leftovers home.

Judy, great workouts! I remember liking R/HIIT, but not the workouts specifically. It is a little harder than the ICE workouts.

Lori, Have a good trip! I think you can skip this morning's workout! You have been doing such good workouts every day for a while so you are good to skip! Have to take the puppy out right? :). I figured you would go over the nomal 10,000 steps with all the walking at work that you have to do. Glad to hear that both your brother and Madeline are doing well.

A workout, then major HouseMax for me! Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Deb, that is too bad about the light being wrong. I bet it feels so nice having it all done. Your home must be getting a different look. That is always fun. Tracey Anderson does not talk th r ought any of the workouts that I have of hers. I have one of her Body by Design series as well. She just gives an introduction and does her workout silently. Even when she switches sides. I was looking at YouTube and she has some 30 minute beginner ones on there and it would appear she talks on them unless I did not watch long enough.
I did not used to eat as much fruit as I have been lately. You are right, that is probably it. I have been keeping a lot for Bill. I have found myself eating it too. The pineapple was just for me though. It can take awhile to get the diet right. There are still times when I push my limitations too far. Trying to sleep with reflux is never good. I hope that today is a better day.

Today was a lower body day for me. I did Lift It HiiT It Legs. This was just the third time that I have done this one and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I haven't done much with Ripped WithHiiT series either, but I know it's not one of my favorites.

Diane Sue, I looked at a few Tracy Anderson workouts out of curiosity because I kept hearing about her. Apparently she is the trainer for many celebrities who swear by her Method. I decided that she doesn't appeal to me.

I have to be careful with fruits as well. My husband loves bananas and grapes so we usually have them, but I try to avoid them because of the sugar content. He really has a sweet tooth, so those are better than cookies.

Lori, wishing you a safe and enjoyable trip.

Deb, you must be relieved to have the painting done and the correct light fixture up. We will have 8 for Thanksgiving dinner and 20 the Saturday after with my extended family. Everyone will bring a dish on that day.

Judy, we seem to be doing similar workouts this week. Jessica Smith is a good balance for Ripped with HiiT for me.

Valerie, so sorry to hear about your friend's cancer returning. That is a difficult decision that she has to make.

Have a great afternoon.

Thank you so much for the nice things you said about my being on an.eight inch step. Frank got upset, and he started to say my workouts were affecting my back
I know what to do and I am icing my right knee for twenty minutes and later on I will put on an icy hot sleeve on my right knee on it Yesterday there was no workout because Frank likes my toes to match my nails, and I was not going to wreck my pedicure. Today I did step on an eight inches and Frank is taking a nap that he really needs.

Today I started with Amy Bento Ross Step Challenge 5 , and did the first 10 minutes. I was not doing bad on remembering the choreography but after some spins and then leaping over the step I just decided that I did not feel like working on it today. I burned 63 calories in that 10 minutes though. I then put in Tabatacise 45 minutes, 304 calories. I finished off with Hammer and Chisel 10 minute ab chisel, 12 minutes, 34 calories. I chose this ab workout because it does not strain my neck. It is pretty much all plank work with elbows on the step alternated with seated work like v sits. My neck and the injured nerve from the needle are starting to improve. I actually stayed asleep most of two nights now. My husband mentioned yesterday that I was moving my arms overhead more. I have tried to keep active because I do not want any thick scar tissue that is going to limit my range of motion. I had to make another trip to the store. I told my daughter this morning that I would make my son in law a birthday cake. Hopefully it turns out well. He is supposed to be eliminating dairy. He has the worst digestive issues and has lived on Nexium for years. Anyway I got an Organic Cake Mix at Sprouts just in case I don't come up with my own recipe. He loves anything chocolate. I bought Newman's Own Chocolate sandwich cookies that are wheat and dairy free to decorate the top with. So tomorrow after the grandchildren go home I will be making a cake.

Carolyn, it seems to me that a lot of instructors have started throwing in plyometric moves with there lower body workouts. I do not mind once in awhile, but I prefer just doing the weights and cardio separately. There is a premix skipping the cardio segments and doing weight only. I am not sure if that one has a 4 sets option like the upper body does. It is the same way with Ice lower body blast and X trains Cardio legs. At least X train does have another just lower body workout., but that one seems fairly easy and not as heavy. My husband loves bananas too. I am not a real fan of bananas. While my husband has been on his diet he has eaten mostly watermelon and green grapes for his sweets. I generally eat fresh blueberries and raspberries with an occasional crisp apple. I don't know where my sweet tooth has come from lately. I usually lean more toward proteins, nut butters, and vegetables. I know when you go to Tracey Anderson's website it mentions the stars that she has worked with. I bought most of mine when I had the knee surgery. I thought it would be easier on the knee but it actually caused a lot of pain. Particularly that band work on Teen Meta. When I did the Trampoline workout and she did the weights she was doing similar movements with her arms holding the weights and shoving them overhead quickly. That is when I put the weights down. She has to be using very light weight doing that. Also on the crunches her form did not look good. Part of the time only her head seemed to be moving up and down off of the floor.

Caitlin, I use an 8 inch step when it is used in a workout. I go to 6 inch though when they are using 6. On Ice Bootcamp when they raise the step I raise it to 10. It does not seem to bother my knee. Now jumping off and on the 10 inch step is a bit much for me.

Good evening ladies...

No workout today as expected. Came home and I am in the vacation mode so I chose a glass of wine over my workout today. I know I'll get a great workout in on Sunday and eveyday till we leave on Friday. Everyone knows my routine!

Diane Sue thanks for sharing the video. I now remember seeing some of her workouts with no cueing. I think that is very odd. I never jump on and off a 10 inch step. The most would be 8 inches. I love Tabatacise...great job doing it. That cake sounds really good. It has been years since I actually baked anything!!! Maybe a baked potato recently though. :)

Deb!!! Yeah the painting is done! Glad you were able to get the right light. Very nice he stayed to hang it. Oh well he can go fishing another time! I am looking forward to doing some Cathe workouts this week. Seems like it has been a while. I believe my jumping workouts really add to my steps. Will need to see where I am at before and after a workout. Makes sense though.

Judy...I read that SB posted a rebounder workout. I have not checked it out yet but very excited. Sad that I have to wait till I come back to do it though!!

Carolyn...that is why I enjoy my JS workouts so much. They are great workouts and balance things for me. Great way to put it. I really enjoy her personality. I need to look at the one Judy mentioned about 10 minute workouts.

Caitlyn...I never did a Tracey A workout, but like Carolyn, knew immediately it was not for me! How has your back been?

Have a great night all! I am off to pack. As usual I have done nothing and really need to get going. I drive my husband nuts that I am such a planner except when it comes to my packing for a trip. Always last minute!

We finished the wall yesterday. lifting a ton (62 lbs x 45 bricks) of concrete blocks was my workout. DH does a lot more than I do, but someone has to stay in the truck and unload. he uses a hand truck to move them after they get out of the truck.
today we did a hike but not as long as usual. within the last week it went from summery conditions to winter. 2 1/2 hours, 3-4 miles total. started raining and it was snowy/icy, so enough.

well yes, I found out last year that the "gravy packet" was pretty nasty. I don't like gravy but others do, so I will do a "work around" this time, and pitch that packet. everyone here only eats white turkey so the roasts work out well for us and don't make huge quantities of leftovers.

the tracy Anderson clip... on my what a weird thing that is. no, will stick with Cathe.

You can all have my share of the world's pineapple and grapes. and no grapefruit either. I eat bananas occasionally, but I LOVE oranges. especially the little Satsuma mandarins right now. they are so good! the season is not long though. I like all berries, pomegranates, mangos, and melons but only in season. disappointed with things from far away! apples, especially Honeycrisp. Love those. I often serve a piece of fruit as a "side" with lunch or dinner. love salty and sweet together.

Lori, this was a mid range bosch, and it seemed most I saw had the silverware shelf. I like it and it's easy to use. I'm glad to be done with the basket on the bottom shelf where things always nested together, and the basket took up so much space . our previous DW lasted 4 years, and that was with a failed heater in the first few months replaced under warranty. DH was trying to post a negative review at the Bosch site but they edited it! he was really ticked. so he went to Lowes and posted it there instead.

I will talk to my friend next week after she sees Oncology and has a better idea of what they can offer her. Lori, I do remember. my friend had a whipple and chemo after, but she got too sick to finish the chemo. went about halfway before they stopped it.

Deb, so nice to get painting done and a time to get everything moved back in place. wish you could get some resolution on the reflux thing.

Hi Everyone,

I took a rest day today. My right knee is bothering me so I didn't want to do anything to aggravate it. I think I will be taking a break from cycling and lower body workouts for a few days.

Deb-That's great that your painting is done! I need to do some major housemax too. No big plans for this weekend. We are supposed to get snow tomorrow.

Diane Sue-I don't think I would like Tracy Anderson's workouts either. I do remember reading about her being a trainer for stars.

Lori- I would love to go to a KCM or Cathe road trip too! Maybe someday. I saw that workout SB posted. It looks like a good one.
Have a great trip!

Valerie-Great job with the wall! What a huge project that was! I hope things go as well as possible for your friend and that her doctors can offer her something hopeful.

Carolyn-I agree, the JS workouts are a great balance for RWH and some of the harder workouts. I really like the format of her workouts, and being able to mix and match segments. Very easy to modify and go easier or harder as needed.

Caitlin-I might have to start icing my knee and using a brace or taping it. I hope your back is ok.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Cardio Coach Vol 1 (revised) using the treadmill. I like to put one of these in my rotation each week.

Diane Sue, I would guess that if your system is not used to a lot of fruit, it would react in a bad way if you all of a sudden started eating a lot of it. Glad your neck and injured nerve are starting to improve. Does your son-in -law take Nexium for reflux? is it caused by dairy? Great that you offered to make a cake that he should be able to eay.

Carolyn, I think out of all the series that Cathe has put out, I like ICE the best, and the next one would be STS. So you are having 2 Thanksgiving dinners?? Yikes. That is a lot of work.

Caitlin, I hope your knee is better, maybe step is something you need to limit?

Lori, have a safe trip! Nice thing about travelling to visit relatives....its easy to wash clothes if you need anything, or go out and buy it if you forgot it.

Valerie, wow that wall was a lot of work. Amazing job! I like those little oranges too, but right now am staying away from anything citrus.

Judy, I saw some promo clips of the new KCM workouts...not too much to see but they look interesting.

A rest day for me, no workout and no agility class today...agility is over until 12/3....

Have a great weekend everyone,

I've been showing off wall pictures.. it doesn't look that much different than what I showed you on the link before. just longer and a little taller in one section. 7 rows high there. the big joke around here is that DH and I should volunteer to the Trump team to build the wall along the Mexico border. that came from my niece ... her DH is Mexican so we all had a good laugh over it. but someone would need to pay us!. I guess I'd send in our time cards to the Mexican government!.

not sure what I will do today but it will be before dinner. that has become a good time for me to work out. I get the job done, and it keeps me out of the kitchen when I'm getting hungry. I like the Ice series but I think my favorite is X-train.

Deb, you are so disciplined. I am not when it comes to food I like. I seldom eat citrus ( or most fruit) by itself though. usually part of a meal. maybe it's less troublesome that way. grapefruit was always the worst ... I never liked it but used to try to eat it ( cause it was 'good " for me) and the taste and smell always came back to haunt. no more. If I don't like it, I don't eat it.

wow all kinds of knee issues. Ice and rest!

Lori hope you got your packing done. a 5 am flight is brutal ! Hope you had a good time last minute packing.

Thank you for all of the special support you give to me Frank has special pillows and I used one last night and it helped very much Please remember that I wrecked my knee running too much. and I am very lucky that I.c

I had grandchildren overnight and have been busy with them and cooking today. Olivia and I made Fixate Cookbook Protein Waffles. She loves to help cook. Olivia who is 8 worked out with me. She almost always brings workout clothes with her. We did Piyo Strong legs with the gliding discs followed by Barre Amped relaxation stretch. Not a big calorie burn. I believe around 117 calories. She wanted to do yoga but wanted something short so that ended up being the choice. My 2 year old grandson Micah decided his gliding discs needed to be put away somewhere out of sight. Then he tried to lift the barbell, gave up and went downstairs to explore. My husband caught him pouring cup after cup into Gerties food bowl and Gertie eating it. So I gave her a small amount tonight. She keeps looking at me and the bowl like I did something wrong. My husband says he feels sorry for her. He gave her a dog cookie. Olivia and I played with her Legos till midnight last night. She hands me a book with this huge building and this bucket of tiny pieces and I am looking at it thinking that I would still be working on it in the morning. I finally settled on the truck that went with the house. I don't remember Legos being so tiny and odd shaped growing up. It is like putting together a huge puzzle. I could enjoy it if I didn't have other things to do though. I love puzzles. It was also nice that my grandson, Isaac, the older 16 year old brother decided to come over and hang out for dinner and a movie. He had done a job hanging Christmas lights for someone and had nothing to do. He didn't want to sit at home alone. We love having them come over.
Family birthday dinner is tomorrow at my daughters house.

Lorie, I bake mainly for family. My husband likes his baked goods so I make some protein bars and things. I have used some grain free muffin recipes and turned them into bars for him since he does not like muffins :) A few adjustments with recipes. Cookies are usually around for the Wednesday family. I have learned to make a half recipe though. That way I do not have lots left and I can put what there is out in the garage freezer for if any grandchildren come over that would eat them. Both of my older grandsons are not eating desserts right now. The one in the competition for weight loss with my husband and the other that was here last night wants to keep his weight class for wrestling. He had a tournament today. Baked goods would not happen if it was just me.

Valerie, I think that most fruits are best in season. I have a printed up sheet of best seasons for foods. You get stuff out of season and it has usually had to be picked early to allow for travel time and selling time. It never has the right flavor. I did buy some cuties this time and was disappointed in them. They are a little soft and it was hard to tell since they usually are always bagged. Honey Crisp and Pink Lady are two of my favorite apples. I did buy some granny smith just in case I want to use some for a Thanksgiving dish. I told my husband we are past watermelon season. That has been his daily go to snack. I bought a mini melon at Walmart and it was just okay. The ones that are left at Sprouts look like they have some rot spots on the skin. The cantaloupe is terrible too. I like fresh pineapple and they say the more you eat of the core part the better for inflammation. On another note they are not necessarily good for allergies. I love raspberries. I try to buy those in the organic section of the store though. I do not know why I have had such an urge for pineapple lately though. Odd for me. Most allergy plans and anti inflammatory plans seem to omit citrus fruits. When I was a teenager the dermatologist told me not to eat citrus. That always seems a bit weird to me. I like sweet and salty together. That is why I often make a salad with some grapes sliced along with celery, onion, kale, nuts or seeds, and the Whole 30 ranch dressing that I make. I have a favorite broccoli salad that I like that has some no nitrate no sugar bacon in it with dried cranberries or raisins and pecans with almond or walnut oil mayonnaise dressing with a bit of vinegar. Today I made a favorite almond sauce from Primal Blueprint quick and easy recipes over steamed broccoli. It is a tiny bit sweet with 1/2 T white wine vinegar along with tamari, almond butter, tahini, sesame oil, and red pepper flake.
It sounds like you got your wall up just before winter is starting to hit. I had to chuckle at helping build the wall. It was 27 here last night. Quite a change from the air running at 79 the day before. I actually turned the heat on so the grandchildren would not be cold upstairs.
On the Tracey Anderson, I would feel silly if someone saw me doing some of what she does.

Judy, it is probably a good idea to go easy for a bit on the cycle workouts and lower body. I will be glad when I feel I am ready for upper body again. I am getting a bit tired of only hitting the lower body. Also going lighter so I don't pick up something too heavy. It is limiting what workouts that I can do. The plus is that my knees have been good even with the emphasis off of the upper body. It has to be the change in exercise focus.

Deb, I am glad to see that you were able to get in a workout today. My son in law has had digestive issues for a very long time and they suspected dairy quite some time ago. We all worked on that with him for awhile and he was better but then he went back to eating what he wants. He recently has been back to the doctor and he has him back off the dairy. He loves pasta and cheese and chocolate anything. Also morning is coffee is half hot cocoa mix and about 10 splenda packs. That alone is enough to give someone reflux. He does not eat vegetables. Spoons of peanut butter out of the jar. It is the way he eats that I am sure makes him so ill. It is hard for a lot of people to give up and change those habits.

Caitlin, that is nice that Frank has some nice pillows that you could use that helped.

Hello to all the wonderful ladies, and thank you for asking about Frank

He is doing better. I did a long workout today and I used my 20 pound dumbbells today
I did the lower body with High Reps and I did Party
Rock in Step on an eight step. It was really hard, but I finished it. I also know that I messed up some of the moves. Frank can ride his exercise bike
I think that I burned up a lot oh
