Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/13

He is getting better almost every day, and his medication helps him very much
I did kickboxing with my two pound weighted gloves and my lower body with High reps

This morning I did Cathe's Ride premix #4, 34 minutes, 240 calories. I then decided to pull out Tracey Anderson Method Trampoline, I used that workout a few times after knee surgery and have not used it since. I did both the front and back workouts first, then did the body work stuff. I kept wondering why no warm up but it was before the stuff that used little dumbbells and did the typical leg work on the floor while hanging onto the rebounder. The workout isn't bad but it is like you are just watching her do her workout. Front is her facing you and back is her facing away from you, both segments are about 12.5 minutes. Pretty much the same moves. She only talks before the workout starts. Total time for this was 51 minutes, 346 calories. Since the stretch was just leaning forward with hands on the rebounder I added Barre Amped Strength and stretch upper body and bonus ball 20 minutes. Total calories today was 616.

Valerie, we have two lanes in our area. One is designated for bicycles to be able to use the entire lane. What annoys me is that it does not say for walking people and dogs. They take up that lane. When I walk I stay on the curb if at all possible. They have been putting sidewalks in all over the place. This has been a city project. There is one small area between the homes and apartments that the sidewalk ends and you about have to step off the curb to go around the trees. Then you are at the park area where there are bike paths and sidewalks again. Also it is a hazard for those people standing in the street. The road curves and they could get themselves and their dogs run over.
I hate plumbing projects. I was pretty grumpy when I got up this morning thinking about the plumbing and the costs we have put into this house in the almost 2 years we have lived here. We had hopes of remodeling and it has been mostly repairing. That slab leak a couple of months ago set us back a lot. My husband was saying last night we have replaced almost all of the faucets now.

Carolyn, when I miss a few minutes of a workout like that, I figure out how many minutes that I missed and add them on. Sometimes I will just check how many calories I expend in that amount of time going on into the workout and write it down or I use the total time and average heart rate to figure it out. If you use the My Fitness Pal App and make sure it says the same time starting as the Fit Bit when you put the calories in Fit Bit will adjust. I do not have that happen too often without having my Map My Fitness App running at the same time. It picks up the watch and will keep picking up the heart rate even though I have accidentally paused the Fit Bit or something. I am not going to be cheated out of my workout. My other option has been to go back and do those minutes that I missed over again and then double it.

Caitlin, glad that Frank is getting better. Good job on the workout today.

Good evening ladies...this morning was Power Jump Mix 41. I think this may be my favorite so far. I shortened it to 45 minutes by skipping over one section to make it more doable for me this morning due to time restrictions. Calories burned was still 423. I love the music in all of these but especially in this one..one of the sections has Michael Jackson's Thriller and it is just fun. :)

Caitlin..if I am not using my heavy bag the most I use is 1lb weights. Great job with the 2lbs. Glad Frank is feeling better.

Carolyn...I do get mad when I do not have my workout to track...but apparently not enough for me to go up the stairs to get my watch!

Deb...I love Cardio Core Circuit! Love the standing abs in this workout. Did the painter finish the job or still more to go?

Diane Sue...I have no desire to do a Tracey Anderson workout. She just does not appeal to me at all. Great calorie burn! Over 600!!! You are amazing! I hope you can get your plumbing issues fixed relatively cheaply. Sometimes it can get so expensive.

Valerie...I hate when pet owners do not pick up after. Where I live it is the horses that drive me nuts! If I am expected to pick up after my pup then the horse owners need to take care of business too. Drive me nuts...big difference between my pup and horse crap!!!!!! Sorry but it is true. Splitting wood is hard work! Amazing you did an elliptical workout too. I would have called it a day after the wood!

My son will be here tonight. Not sure if I mentioned he is interning at my company filming our Training videos. He is doing a great job and we pay our interns so he is very happy! He needs to be at one of our restaurants at 6am so makes sense for him to sleep here tonight.

Have a great night all!

Diane sue.... this is a dedicated "pedestrian" trail. allows foot traffic, bikes and horses. Lori there is not too much horse traffic but I agree, they should be shoveling... just like the dog owners are supposed to. of course, the dog owners mostly don't, and it's easy for them, so good luck on getting horse people to comply. really , comparing a couple ounces of doggie doo with a couple pounds of horse apples is not the same thing at all. this is an totally separate-from-traffic asphalt trail, not something next to a road with vehicles... except for some minor sections. it crosses/intersects roads with vehicle traffic, so we need to pay attention at those intersections, but most of it feels rural and remote. where we mt bike in the tree farm, it's gravel and dirt and no one picks up anything but that is reasonable there. still, need to run bike water bottles thru the DW after. the spray is not going to be pristine. also, the horse people do all the trail maintenance so not a good idea to complain about them using the trails. I wish there were 'apple catchers" that hooked onto the back of horses so no one would need to shovel. plumbing repairs are like a boat... a hole in the water you toss money into.

did Pedal Power today, seems like 45 minutes or so. I'm getting so sick of the music on this one! the computer gives me miles and kcal but they never make any sense. I know I have two spin bike speeds, slow and a little faster. I don't seem to have the quickness some of the people have, and when I stand up, my speed drops to 65.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast, premix #5. It's the main workout with a few of the intervals removed to shorten the time. A good lower body workout. Lunch with my retired work peers was really nice...a lot of reminiscing.

Diane Sue, plumbing problems are never easy! I hope yours are resolved soon. What does Gertie do when you are jumping on a trampoline? My dogs (at least Kylee) would not know what to think, I am sure she would want to get up there with me.

Valerie, I can understand why you would want to find a trail that is less populated! Good luck with the DW install...I am sure you will love the new one. An "apple catcher" on a horse but it seems like a great idea! :).

Carolyn, yes, a great workout. I need to go back and look at R/W/HIIT again. I hear you on being angry if your workout watch or HRM misses some time. I usually have time recorded in MFP for the same workout at a previous day, so I will take that and the calorie burn from that day.

Lori, I can "hear" Michael Jackson's Thriller and can see how that would be great for a jumping workout. The painter is on the last room, hopes to get all done by tomorrow. I hope he does, as I have to put the house back together before Thanksgiving! That's great that your son is interning at your company and getting paid to do it!

Caitlin, good workout, glad that Frank is doing better with the meds.

Maybe a workout, or not...did not sleep well last night...we'll see.

Take care,

Good morning... I'm complaining about music again. I don't think it's a cathe issue, I think most current music is screechy and I get tired of it quickly. spinning ..cathe even says that by the end" you're going to love this song or hate it" I am reaching hate. I seem to have only two speeds. my cadence is about 65 when standing, and 90-95 sitting. as soon as I get up, my legs slow down. I don't have the speed variability that her crew seems to have. I wear the polar chest strap but it does not consistently monitor. if I push heart rate on the screen, it gives me a rate, but it doesn't change until I push HR again. I'm not getting remotely close to an accurate reading. 120 sits at 120, and the next push is 140, but it must calculate the several minutes in between at 120. going back to the older spin workouts for a change of music. the first one didn't show the time on the screen, and I miss that.
Thriller would be a nice change. I've probably done Pedal Power too many times in a row. wish someone used music from 70's and 80's.... showing my age here.

Deb, great the painting is finishing up. I've lost touch with all but one of the people I worked with. everyone went separate ways.
Lori, I try to think of horse manure as balls of well chewed grass! the trail here has many bag dispensers for doggie doo, but so many people ignore it. there are plenty who bag it, and then leave the bag sitting along the trail. there are lots of trash cans, not like they have to carry it for miles. I have never looked at tracy Anderson.

It is a busy day today. I did Ripped with Hiit Low Impact Hiit both workouts combined premix 2, 52 minutes, 365 calories. I will do lower body tomorrow when I have more time. Some of the family will be here for dinner. My grandson has half day of school and is coming over.

Lorie, I will have to check out that power jump workout. I wear 1# or 1 1/2# gloves when I use them. I try to be careful because I used to go to the 2# I ended up with tennis elbow and couldn't do boxing for a long time. So, I don't use them every time and not as aggressively. I don't like the fact that Tracey Anderson does not talk and there is no cuing when she decides to do something else. I will be working hard wondering when we are going to change and look up and she is doing something else. It seems cheap that she just does a workout in front of a camera and charges money for it.

Valerie, I have only seen horse traffic in some of the more rural cities. I do remember one that is an inner city though that they used to have to stop riders inside the city limits. There are areas allowed and those where it is not allowed. Everyone should be courteous and clean up their messes. People sure do take things for granted. I am that way with some music. I can only take so much and it has to be shut off. There is one of the Ice workouts that I really do not care for the music. Generally I am okay with it but this one in particular irritates me, but I really like the workout. I would have to think which it is. Maybe Metabolic Meltdown?? Not sure. Also I finally quit looking out the window to see what was going on when I use Rock'm Sock'm and the sirens are going off. My spin bike does not read my heartrate. It just gives me calories, rpm, miles, time. I try to keep it up to around 90 through most of the work as much as possible. Heart rate gets up more on the standing work for me or the jumps. A lot depends on how tight I tighten the work level. Sometimes it seems to me that they are really turning that thing a lot compared to what I do to add resistance.

Deb, I do the same thing with workouts that I have done previously and logged on MFP. It also helps when I have such a varied turnout between devices on my calorie burn. Today's that I did had Cathe at over 500 calorie :O Then fit bit was around 280, I ended up with the 365 going by previous MFP, Map My Fiitness, and Met Value. I pretty much know how hard I was working it was definitely not a 9 or whatever that was on Cathe's workout manager. I looked over that premix when I did the lower body workout on Monday. Just trying to figure time restraints. When I do the rebounder Gertie starts jumping side to side in front of me and will run downstairs and bring back toys. I have had her toss them onto the rebounder while I am jumping. She will get in that playful puppy position with her head down and her backside up in the air . It is funny watching her.

Hi Everyone. No workout on the agenda for me today. I've been working on house cleaning and holiday preparations. I decided to order another air bed for my little grandson to sleep on. He doesn't share well!

Valerie, I am also nostalgic for music from 70s, 80's and 90's (and earlier). I heard a song on a television commercial recently that reminded me of high school. I finally had to look it up to find original artist and year.

Have a great afternoon.

Carolyn, I use a camp coy for my 2 year old grandson. I put an older exercise may under a sheet for a bit more padding. He calls it his bed and my exercise room his room. Him and his sister 8, will be spending the night on Friday.

The medication helps.a great deal and it is gravitas and I am.still on this stupid tablet
I graduated to an eight inch step today

diane sue I think chiseled upper body is the one with music that drove me crazy. I turn off the sound track because it seems like cathe is straining to be heard over the music. I assume the music track is "pasted in" over her voice so I don't "get" why it has to be annoyingly loud. then there's the fact my player is old and the TV is older so maybe things are distorted because so much has changed electronically. my spin bike reads my rate only when I push the button. I use it to make sure I'm working in the zone I want to be, but it must use that to calculate calorie burn so it has to be totally inaccurate.

we listen to mostly "older" music when we're driving, usually Pandora. you can put on whatever you want and the service is free if you don't mind a few commercials, OK with me. we used Sirius for a few years but it's awfully expensive per year now, especially since we don't use it all year.

New DW is in. looks nice, simple to operate. will use tonight.

Good evening ladies!

I did not workout this morning. Was going to but just wasn't feeling it. Just as well because I must have walked up and down the stairs today at work a 100 times. Of course not really but enough to have exhausted me!

Deb...glad the painting is almost done. Bet you are so happy to have it done for Thanksgiving. You have everyone at your place correct? For some reason I think this. My company is giving Turkeys this year. First time in about 7 or 8 years. Love this new CEO. GiGi was trying to jump with me so I banned her from the room when I am jumping. I recently brought it downstairs anyway and it is fine with the lowered ceiling. With these powerjump workouts your legs are jumping high at times but not your body. I know this makes no sense. You may need to see to understand.

Valerie...I believe NYC has a bag on the "back end" of all the horses that pull the carragies. If they can do all Towns should have too! Music can be so important in a workout. Especially cycling.

Diane Sue...yes loving #41...I skip over the recovery section in the middle to keep going with the faster pace. Music and instructors are fun in this one. Feels like it has been ages since I have done a Cathe workout. So preoccupied with my rebounder! Reading everyone's workouts are making me miss them. After I finish posting here I plan to load up my ipad with some Cathe Kickboxing downloads and will also stream SB Barre workouts for my Florida trip. These are always perfect to travel. I do plan to bring my ankle weights and some bands. My MIL has some light weights that she pulls out for me. She is used to me now at this point! I also go for a walk with her and her friends every morning. Love being part of the morning girls club. :) We meet at 7:30am every morning and walk several fast miles. So much fun.

Carolyn...lol! Cute he does not share well!

Judy..I read somewhere KCM's new dvd's will be shipping soon. Diane Sue...did you order these too?

Have a great night all!

I had my mri this afternoon. It took longer than they had said. My husband and grandson went out looking at motorcycles while I was getting it done. They insisted I had a valium. I told them I had had mri's before and did not need that. Anyway, I am glad that is over. I am starting to feel like a pin cushion. I hope this is it. I can only feel one lymph node now and it is much smaller. I think my nerve that they hit may be starting to mend. It was itchy today like healing. Sometimes the skin feels like it is burning and it is terribly uncomfortable wearing necklaces, seat belts, bra straps that are not real loose, and just anything tight. I hope it goes away soon.

Valerie, I don't think that it is so much how loud the music is as it is the music itself for me. For awhile I got really tired of some soundtracks that were on multiple instructors videos. Some of the ones that were on Slow and Heavy and others around that time. It got really old and stale hearing them everywhere. Then there is a soundtrack that reminds me a bit of carnival music that has creeped into something of Cathes and was on some of the hammer and chisel workouts. It kind of annoyed me. I do enjoy a new soundtrack with the workouts and generally now Cathe comes up with some new stuff. I do have to adjust volume between workouts though. Some are much louder than others. Most of our dvd players are old. The one I am using right now is a dvd/vhs player. We had so many we got rid of some. I would like a blu ray player in my workout room but won't spend the money right now. We have one downstairs that my husband had bought specifically for the sound system. (for the television as he is not a music fan) It has 3 D capabilities but the television does not. I have the television upstairs that has 3 D Neither of us like to watch 3 D though. It gives me a headache. The grandchildren like it. The only real time he got interested in music we went on a trip and he purchased a time/ life set of music from the 70's. We drove down the rode and sang. When we go to see musicians it is people like Harry Connick Jr., The righteous brothers, and singers like that. We have had Sirrus come for free with several of our vehicles and canceled once the free wore off. I listen to talk radio in the car. My little car does not have a dvd player. Just a radio. My Nautilus Treadmill I sold to my daughter was nice because if you were not wearing the strap for heartrate zones you could hold the handles and pick it up. It did better as a piece of fitness equipment on accuracy. The tread climber sometimes picks up interference. I still aim to check it out better with my Fit Bit though. It used to go in sync with my non Coded Polar watch and strap. The coded kind would not work with it.

Lorie, that would be nice to have a turkey given to you. I just bought a 22 lb turkey. My daughter in law is bringing ham. I always worry a bit about the light fixture when jumping but even the tuck jumps do not have me hit it. I wouldn't want to put a ceiling fan in there for that reason. My last home where I had my workout room there was two ceiling fans. One at each end of the room so I put the rebounder in the middle of the room. That is handy that you can download all of the dvds that you want to use and take them with you. I used to get a holder and tuck workouts into it and take my laptop. Now I have several downloads that I can use. Although You Tube does give us some stuff. MY husband bought me some firewalker bands in a set in a little bag. All different weights. They are nice to be able to take along places. My TRX fits in it's bag for taking along as well. That is nice that you can go for walks together. I miss my old neighbor/ also dentist receptionist. We used to go for walks through two different neighborhoods in the evenings when my husband was in Afghanistan. It was quite nice. I have felt the need to use my rebounder more since it is supposed to be really good for the lymphatic system.
I did not preorder Kellys new workouts but I intend to get them. I like the options on them.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, not a good day.

Valerie, funny how we all are different with the music in the workouts. Some people really care about how it sounds, and "beg" Cathe to put in certain styles of music. I mostly don;t hear it, and could not tell you what is on each workout, or series. I think there was one workout, don't remember the DVD where the music stood out and I didn;t like it at all. How was the new DW?

Diane Sue, I don;t think I have ever seen a Tracy Anderson workout...when I hear her name I think of step workouts for some reason....did she do a lot of step DVD's? How was dinner with the grandkids? Funny that Gertie goes into "play mode" when you are jumping on the rebounder..:). Good that the MRI is done, I hope they give you the all clear.

Carolyn, I would like it if Cathe did some remakes of music from the 70's....my favorite music decade.

Caitlin, good job on going to the 8 inch step!

Lori, do you count your steps each day? If not, you should! I bet you reach 10,000 easily. Yes, we have everyone here for Thanksgiving....it will be 18 or 19 this year, depends on one of the girlfriends. That is actually a small amount...I have had up to 27 past years. That's great that your MIL walks with the girls every day, and you join them.

A workout, then shopping for food for next week and to make the dog's food..

Take care,

Good morning,
I woke up during the night and had trouble going back to sleep. After tossing and turning for a long time I decided to get up and workout. I did JS 40 Minute Megaburn Walk. It's always good to have my workout done early.

I just finished baking apple bars that will go in the freezer for next week. I plan to go grocery shopping this morning to finish stocking up on pantry items.

Lori, your CEO sounds like a wonderful person. It is so great to know that your hard work is recognized and appreciated.

Valerie, so glad that you finally have your new dishwasher. I don't usually pay much attention to the music on workouts but I like to hear something that is motivating. I have playlists that I use on the treadmill.

Hello to everyone. Enjoy your day.

Deb, I am sorry that you had a bad day. I was hoping things would be much better for you. I haven't figured out why I have had several days of gastrointestinal intestinal issues. I keep going over my diet and supplements. Maybe I am eating too much pineapple and grapes. I even limited some of my morning stuff yesterday. It made no difference. I think maybe I am detoxing my lymphatic system. I have added acetyl L carnitine and made sure the greens powders I am using has b 12 in it and that may be some of it. I have been limiting the use of the Incredible greens powder to every few days after discovering the large anoint of soy lecithin in it. I will use it up, but with the finding of a thyroid nodule I don't want to take lots of it.. so, I am back to Amazing grass and Sun is Rising green superfood. No cramping this ,or nine so hopefully I am better. I can ignore a lot of music if I love the workout but once in awhile it just does not click with me. I have never seen Tracy Anderson do step. It is mostay tons of non weighted repetitions till you feel you limbs are going to fall off or what I feel like is her show g off her made up sort of flopping around dance moves or crazy person moves like she is loving herself. Can you tell how much I really love her
Gertie had us laughing this morning. She always gets a morning treat from my husband. He makes her repeatedly sit, lie down, sit with signals at first and then voice. She was sitting in her waiting position. He got a treat out but was talking to me. She got tired of waiting and started lying down and sitting up repeatedly on her own. She really wanted that cookie:D

Carolyn, I have my list to go pick up more stuff for Thanksgiving dinner and family Wednesday dinner. I am going to freeze some pie crust. I have plans for a crust less healthier pumpkin pie for the dieters. I also have a blueberry salad dessert from the Wild diet I want to make. Hopefully yhe family does not miss the marshmallow laden fruit salad this year. It is nice having the workout done early. I am running late this morning and actually slept for a change.

Dishwasher is very nice. Hope it works longer than the last one. I am optimistic. what are the odds of getting 2 lemons in a row. Install went well, but glad we didn't do it ourselves. the guy who did it was very good at his job. quick, methodical, careful. I will run it another time before I put the kitchen back together . Lori did you get the DW with the third shelf for cutlery? I did and I love it!. makes for a lot more room on the bottom rack, and so easy to load. no nesting spoons!

I've never seen tracy Anderson but sounds like no reason to check her out. I can to ignore music I don't like, but get annoyed when the sound track overwhelms her voice. even music I like annoys me if it's too loud! Crank that I am, have an aversion "in ear" devices. they never fit. I would rather watch anything, seem to need visuals for a distraction.
deb, I can't imagine that many people. we have a cousin and his wife for dinner. I don't need to do much ahead with only 2 adults. bought a boneless turkey breast roast so I don't have 10lbs of leftovers. I made one last year and liked it ...except no gravy. they give you a packet of "gravy" but in a word, YUCK. I froze a chicken carcass and will cook that with some vegies as a gravy base. I really wanted a working DW. I make things from scratch, and it generates a lot of dirty dishes.
Carolyn strong work on getting in a workout instead of just wasting time trying to go back to sleep. I am still having election nightmares.

My friend with the pancreatic cancer has had a recurrence. It's been 3 years since her surgery. she has two new tumor sites. I found out yesterday. I feel awful for her, it is so unfair. she has to decide between aggressive untested chemo if she can get into a trial, or comfort measures only. I think the chemo might buy a little time but it might make the time she has left a lot less pleasant. I may go visit with her soon depending on which course she chooses.
got in a short workout, a rock 'em sock 'em, only about 20 min but it was better than nothing. we planned to ride today but too wet so another day on the wall. will probably finish it today.

Hi Everyone,

Monday afternoon I did RWH Chest, Triceps and Shoulders; Tuesday I did a 30 minute bike workout in the morning and RWH Back, Biceps & Shoulders in the afternoon. Yesterday I did a Jessica Smith walking workout and To The Mat, bands and floor only premix. Today I did a 50 minute bike workout and a 30 minute Jessica Smith standing ab workout. I didn't do much with RWH when it first came out so it's almost like a new series to me. The weight workouts are challenging and effective, but not as enjoyable as some of her other series. I'll do a few more of the workouts and see if my opinion changes. Just something about the music and the speed of the moves seemed a little off to me.

Deb-I'm sorry that yesterday was a bad day :( I hope the rest of the week is better.

Diane Sue-I've never seen a Tracy Anderson workout. A crust less pumpkin pie sounds good. I should try making one next week. Gertie sounds very cute and sweet!

Caitlin-I'm glad the medication is helping Frank. Great job on the 8 inch step!

Lori-I saw that about KCM's new dvds too. I think they will be here before the end of the month. I noticed on Facebook that she is planning another road trip/convention for next Spring.

Carolyn-I miss music from the 80's and 90's too. I don't even know any of the new music or artists that are out now.

This morning I did 21 Day Fix Extreme Lower body 34 minutes, 234 calories. I followed this with X Train Legs premix standing, ball, chair, 39 minutes, 193 calories. Total time was 73 minutes, calories burned 427. I used 15's for 21 Day Fix Extreme legs and Cathe's weight or a little heavier for X Train Legs. I went out to Walmart market and hopefully I do not need to go to the store again before Thanksgiving.

Valerie, your dishwasher sounds nice. I would love to have a third rack for silverware. I have two plastic holders that I have a feeling were not originally with this dishwasher. They are always falling over or the little covers fall off. The color doesn't even match. Tracey Anderson does have some other cardio workouts, I purchased one that was Teen Meta which has some dance and band strength. My 16 year old granddaughter has it right now. I think if I remember right there may be some talking because there is a group of young girls on it with her. I may have messed with it once. Makes me wonder why I kept buying more of her workouts. I think because I have heard others say how good they were. I guess when she is not talking you don't have to worry about how loud her music is. It was not wonderful either. Some instrumental stuff. I do not care for gravy and those gravy packets are gross. They are loaded with salt too. I usually like to purchase a whole turkey breast on the bone so it is not altered and compressed into a turkey roast with additives. But this year my husband complained about it spoiling the whole turkey tradition. So I bought a 22 lb turkey. I figure I will boil the carcass and giblets for broth and Gertie will enjoy the dark meat that no one wants. I will shred it up and add a little to her food. I was going to add a turkey breast but my daughter in law is bringing ham and we would have too many leftovers for sure. It takes about 5 days to get the turkey thawed enough in the refrigerator to get all of the stuff out of it. I am so sorry about your friend's returning cancer. That would be a hard decision to make. I hope she has someone there as support as she goes through whatever she chooses.

Judy, I think it is the filling that is the best part of pumpkin pie anyway. If I would have went to Sprouts today I would have picked up the evaporated coconut milk to use in it. I often mix up some eggs, pumpkin, protein powder, a lttle coconut milk, and some pumpkin pie spice and microwave it stirring a few times and it is like having crust less pumpkin pie protein in it. My son in law came in once when I was doing that and said it smelled really good. I love pumpkin. I saw that Kelly Coffey was trying to plan another road trip at the same location as her last one. She just needs a certain amount of people to come.
