Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/9

Today will be cardio. I forgot to mention that I went back to the greens powder. Just a few days off and I was having some acid reflux and heartburn. That is one of the reasons I have used it for so many years. It's funny how a person can forget till the problem is back. It helps with some alkalinity in the system. I didn't notice anything with the allergies those days. I had a couple of better days the last two though. I think because of the rain and the weather cooling off a bit.

Deb, spending time with a friend sounds like a nice change from the workout. You get some laughter and happiness and that is good for you health as well.
We used to buy those large rope toys for Gertie and Mudd and I had to clean up strings all over the yard plus they ingested some of them. She will carry it with her and just lay with her nose on this new one. Maybe she is dreaming of play time:)

Judy, we live in our town home and some are attached condos here. So many people are home all day and watching. Also there is a Next door neighbor app and site that we can get on and anything unusual is reported there. They also have a coffee with a cop day and some local police meeting and talking to the people about ways to be safe and avoid being victims. I like this for safety . I f someone in the area has a pet get loose it is reported or every e is on a unified effort to help find it.

I did x train bi/tri premix and core 1 yesterday. going mt biking this morning soon, but it's cold today. have a lunch apt so I will get back this afternoon.

Carolyn getting a new car stolen would be unpleasant. even losing an old one stinks! so common these days. I have a bit of apprehension about our camper now, feels like it's "contaminated" although we washed and cleaned everything we could. When we leave on even short trips, we lock everything down, including cars in the garage, and turn off the circuit breakers to most of the house. especially at night, it would slow anyone down if there are no lights.
Judy we have more problems during the day. I don't think these are "professional" burglars, mostly punks on drugs who will grab anything they can sell to get their next fix. they walk into an open garage or shed and grab things, walk into a house and grap a laptop, and run. smash a car window and grab whatever is sitting inside. and then they go to the casino and sell and trade their goods. found casino receipts in the duffel as well.
we lost enough on this to get our attention though, and will be more diligent. so hard to adjust to feeling like someone watches when you pull out of your driveway, and runs right down to see if something isn't locked.

We have to get block watch groups started but it hasn't worked well.
Caitlin that is so sad ... especially personal clothing like underwear is of little use to anyone else but will cost you a lot to replace.

diane sue we go on with cousin about his weight and getting exercise, and even though he is a smart guy, changes don't last. he has T2 also and was doing OK on a diet for a while, but has let it all go back to his baseline. he is quite over weight and belongs to a gym, but mostly it's just talk and no action.
more later.

Today I did a Jessica Smith 30 minute walk from Burn Fat and Have Fun--Stride and Step. It was good but I felt like I needed more. I added KCM's Cardio Quick Fix for a complete workout.

Lori, it was great that you were able to purchase your rebounder with the gift card from your boss. I'm sure his appreciation for your work felt good. I've never used a rebounder, but they look interesting.

Have a great afternoon everyone.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did live Compound Giant Sets (42 min.). I really like this one. All you need is a pair of 8 lb. dumbbells, but by the fourth set they feel heavy. Also like the standing core on this one.

Beautiful fall day here but frosty. Our foliage is beautiful. You can see pics on East Mountain Farm Facebook.

Lori, maybe you will be lucky with Gigi the way we were with Max. He was already house trained and slept through the night in his crate immediately.

Diane Sue, it must be irritating to see your brother so heavy. I really have to give my college a lot of praise for all their wellness programs and little competitions. I think I live in a pretty healthy community because I was shocked by all the obese people at the Minnesota State Fair, a shock that grew as I watched people gorging on you know what state fair food is like.

Carolyn, I did that KCM workout--both of them--a lot. It's like the first one is an extended warmup for the second.

Valerie, it's too bad the police don't try to figure out who is buying the stuff that is stolen. If these wandering petty thieves had no place to get a bit of cash for their loot, maybe they wouldn't be so eager to take anything that 's not nailed down. Enjoy your mountain biking!

Deb, I know that the flu shot doesn't always have the best mix to prevent every flu virus, but at least it is effective against some percentage every year.

Caitlin, I guess you should have checked out your movers to see if they were reliable. Sound like grifters to me.

Judy, you are probably right that it's safer in a condo than a house.

Today I did Amy Bento In the Ring, premix, intervals two times with warm up and stretch, 35 minutes, heart rate 126 avg/ 160 max, 252 calories. I used an 8# medicine ball. The intervals are all of the med ball segments. I then did Ice Rock'm Sock'm Kickbox, 50 minutes, 398 calories wearing 1# gloves, 133 avg heart rate/ 165 max , 398 calories. I always try to do more foot work on this to increase the steps and calories. I add feet flurries with the first part that has just arm flurries. I step into punches and add more hops. This helps, otherwise feel I am not working very hard. I finished off with Amy's Advanced Step Challenge 3, abs 2, 17 minutes 62 calories. That one is done with tubing. Total time was 1 hr and 42 minutes, calories burned 712. I did decide to go back and do the 12 minute stretch on the end of Step Challenge 3 because it is such a good one.. I did not count it though.

Valerie, I had not thought of shutting down circuit breakers. I guess you would have to leave some on for the refrigerator and freezer though. My daughter turned hers off once and I had come into her house since I was watching it and set off the alarm. It was in the dark garage and I could not read the numbers. I pushed all the buttons and the whole emergency crew came out. I was so embarrassed. I just wanted the sound to stop.
I would imagine it would take someone devoted to getting the watch started and organizing something to get a watch going. I remember my sister in law joining TOPS once and she would try not to eat before weigh in and still eat the rest of the time. It did not work. They joined a gym years ago but it did not last. I wish she didn't pass all of the wrong eating onto her family. The only one that is thin is her daughter and so far it is not from lack of eating. She is the kind of person that is bouncing off the walls all of the time. She posts all kinds of unhealthy recipes on face book and has two children. My other brother is skin and bones skinny and works himself to death. He lives off of tons of coffee. His wife is huge and has medical problems as well.

Lynda, I bet it was kind of a shock to see so many overweight people. Years ago when we lived in Southern California I did not see so many obese people.. It was a contrast when we moved to Oklahoma. I have compassion for those that are trying to help themselves but not so much for those that do not try. Some are blatantly obvious that they have no intention of following doctors instructions or helping themselves. I did edit this because I thought I was a bit harsh in what I originally said.

I was very lucky to get very nice bras in Macys buy two free, and the bottoms were 3.99. Today I did Hard Strikes with two pound weighted gloves and Pyramid Upper Body. I had forgotten how hard Pyramid Upper Body is. At least I can track my workouts now, until I can get the 2017 calendar.

DH seems to think the casino is a 'clearing house' for goods of all kinds. there's a huge parking lot and lots of trees on the sides, and this problem became suddenly worse after the casino opened. we've voted on whether to have a gate several times before this, but this year it passed overwhelmingly. everyone is getting sick and tired of this although we know the gate will only help some. we are walking distance from the casino. the Walmart here has the worst shoplifting record in the country, and require people leaving to show their receipts with their purchases, like Costco. it used to be a nice place to live but property crime is making us all crazy. .

Diane sue, DH shuts down "pre decided" circuits ..... not good to accidentally shut off the refrigerator/ freezer, or power to the alarm or garage door. most circuits are lights and appliances that aren't being used. No way to tell if this will really help. if someone breaks in, the alarm goes off, plus they can't get lights to work .... it should slow them down. the cars are locked, keys hidden in the dark house.

we did our mt bike ride 90 minutes. trails will close for the year soon. we are too spread out here with too many trees for neighbors to see each other's houses well. the block watch things are OK for a few months and then go downhill.

Lynda, I think the drug addict /homeless issue is out of control. the police try hard, but it's like a revolving door... jailed for a few days and then back out on the street.

It's strange when it seems like everyone is overweight. look at pics from the 50's, 60's and 70's. everyone looks so thin. my brother ands sister are both overweight and don't eat very well. I need to work hard at it to not gain, so I'm not a metabolically lucky person. but I keep at it. it's more about the food ... most people can't out-exercise a bad diet.

Lori congrats on your $500 bonus. I don't know what a rebounder is but will take a look. I looked at the puppy pics again. that is just the cutest little girl!!.

It is really odd. I got a flu shot last week and she did it on the back of my arm because she said I had so much muscle in my arm. Now I have a bruise on the front of my arm. It really makes no sense. I guess it will fade eventually.

Valerie, that is so much to do just to leave the house. We do not lock our cars in the garage. We do not use the keypad. We never set up a code. My husband says that they can sometimes get in that way. We leave credit cards and extra keys in our safe if we leave for a few days. They would have a hard time getting that safe out the door. They used to check the receipts at Walmart here, but have quit. They still do at Sams though. One of the checkers at Walmart complained when I was in there because the guy in front of me purchased a flat screen television. They do not let the cashiers keep one of their things that remove the electronic devices off of the package. She had to leave us standing in line and take the television to customer service to get it off. Apparently they have a problem with employees stealing them. She couldn't figure out why they would want one. I figure they are stealing stuff from Walmart or giving them to someone else to steal it.

Lorie, I don't know if you are interested but I have found some good rebounding workouts on You Tube. Anita Champion uses a Bellicon now. She used to use another brand. Here is a link

Good evening ladies!

This morning my workout was walking the puppy. I am taking the morning shift. Wasn't much of a workout with an 8 week old pup. But I enjoyed it as much. Hoping she likes long walks like I did with Chester. When I came home I did a couple of SB lower body workouts then battle rope tabatas for 20 minutes. Total workout was about 50 minutes.

Deb...I have never watched suits. How was it? Love your comment about the jumpsport. You thought it was great I bought one than asked what it was! It should arrive on Friday. I am really excited to have it. Been on YouTube looking at some workouts I want to try. One is a kickboxing on the rebounder.

Judy...great workouts. In the late 80's into early 90's I used my rebounder a lot and always loved it. Keeping our fingers crossed as she is doing really well house training. Nilla is not a fan though. Going to take some time.

Diane Sue...your neighborhood watch sounds great. I just noticed our town is stating with have coffee with a cop day. I like they are doing this. 712 calories! That is fantastic!

Valerie...makes sense about the casino parking lots. I think your husband is right. Nice ride today. How is the new house coming along? GiGi is adorable.

Carolyn...I am loving my JS workouts. I really have a new appreciation for her.

Lynda...that compound live workout is a favorite of mine and it moves right along. So far she has been doing great in the crate. Keeping our fingers crossed it continues.

Caitlin..stinks aboitbthose movers. Great workout today!

Hi to Josie!!!

Diane Sue....funny that is the exact workout I downloaded today! I also downloaded a few more by her. Can't wait to try them out. Thanks!

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I did make chicken soup though!

Judy, so your room mates had people stealing from you? That is really scary....yes people are brazen, more so now than even when it happened to us 40+ years ago. Did you pre-order KCM's new DVD's?

Diane Sue, that is interesting about the greens powder and having acid reflux come back. Maybe when I find out what is wrong with me tomorrow, I can get more details on what you are taking and try it. I like the way your neighborhood has handled safety issues.

Valerie, I can see how it would be stressful any time you leave the house now. Good idea to shut off non-essential circuits. I was going to say that it may be a signal that you are not home, with no lights ever going on, but it seems like they don't care, and go in during the daytime anyway.

Carolyn, great workouts!

Lynda, I have that workout on my Live favorite list for total body. I love the pics of Max on the East Mountain Farm FB page! The leaves are beautiful too.

Caitlin, great workouts! Yes Pyramid Upper Body is a tough one...Cathe goes so fast.

Lori, that is great that you are starting Gigi out early with walks. You said you have "first shift" Does Bob do the next ones? I can see how a lively little puppy could irritate Nilla. Love "Suits"...its a great series, but must be watched from the beginning, like a lot of the ones on now.

The painter comes this morning....could not come soon enough for me.

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did live Gloved Up and Ready (50 min.) with 1 lb. gloves.

Another beautiful fall day here. A complicated few days coming up. My older son will be here tonight. Then my younger son is coming tomorrow. Then on Friday we will have Kim's parents over for dinner. Then on Saturday, BIL (the one whose wife was killed) will be staying with us. Kim is crazy busy with haying, chickens, calves.

Lori, I like Suits as well. It's the series where there is this super-secretary (can't at the moment remember her name) who I mentioned reminds me of you--super competent and organized. Deb is right--you have to watch the series from the beginning because the premise for what follows over several seasons begins there. Sounds like Gigi is doing really well.

Valerie, I can really understand why you must be furious about that casino being built so close to you. Did you have any meetings, votes, organized opposition before a planning board or council ahead of time?

Deb, I hope tomorrow you get some answers about your heartburn with the endoscopy and it is not too uncomfortable a procedure. Yes, Max is the official greeter at Kim's onsite store.

Diane Sue, that looks like an advanced workout on the rebounder. I have never had a bruise from a flu shot, just some tenderness. The Prevnar shot for pneumonia really made my shoulder sore for several days.

Hi to Judy, Josie, and Caitlin!

Hi Ladies,
I had to go out early today which delayed my workout. I did Muscle Max timesaver premix after I returned.

Lynda, I have Compound Giant Sets on a list of live workouts that I want to try.

Our weather has been beautiful lately and it finally feels like fall with cool nights and mild daytime temperatures. I love watching the leaves change.

Diane Sue, I looked at some of the Anita Champion rebounder workouts when I was trying to see what they involve. I can see how Suzanne Bowen could incorporate it into her workout.

Deb, good luck with the painter and your doctor's appointment.

Enjoy your afternoon.

Today I did Ripped With Hiit Circuit Lower Body with abs mixed throughout, 50 minutes, 380 calories. then did Ice Boot Camp Circuit
Mish Mosh express premix, mixes in blizzard blasts and some of the main workout, 39 minutes, 247 calories. I finished off With Barre Amped Strength and Stretch lower body, 19 minutes. Total calories burned 669. We have cool weather coming in. It will be back up in the 80's this weekend and first of next week though.

Deb, I am sure you will be happy to get some results back. I am glad it is soon. Are they painting with roller and brush or spray painting? I heard something on the news where they were spray painting and the gas hot water heater pilot caused an explosion. I found that interesting because someone on our Next door neighbor website was looking for a painter that did not spray paint. They were worried that spray does not cover as well. I have never had someone paint the inside of my house before. Outside they have sprayed and brushed trim.

Lynda, your next few days sound like what we just had. It doesn't sound like Kim will have much time for company. That stuff needs done before bad weather hits. We have had some beautiful weather here lately. I went out and cleaned up leaves and tidied up our walkway yesterday. I sat out on the bench for a little while. I love outside but it would be much more pleasant if I could leave the mask off. I am not sure if it even helps because I was drippy when I came in. I am still sneezing this morning. I used to sit outside with my coffee in the mornings and enjoyed the quiet morning sounds, or lack of sounds. Just the sounds of nature. That is an advanced workout but Anita Champion does have some start up ones and easier ones. She had quit making new stuff for awhile to finish a book she was writing.

Carolyn, it is always hard for me to go out and come back and do a workout. I am getting a bit better at it though. I am subbing for my daughter's daycare on Friday so if I do not get a workout in early I will probably just not do one. Waiting till mid afternoon does not work for me. Once I am showered and out the door I refuse to do it a second time. I will sometimes do a stretch workout late in the day but that is it.

Hi Ladies,

Went spinning today. I did not workout at all Sat.-Tuesday. One of my brothers and my SIL came to visit and all we did was go out to eat and drink, they left Monday afternoon. On Tuesday I had to go in to UCLA for my followup blood work and a mammogram.

Diane Sue, I'm in the same boat with my brother who is taking care of my mom. He has diabetes T2 and does not take care of himself at all and thinks that he is doing the right thing for my mom when he cooks. He and mom do not listen to any advice and I've just given up.

Lori, Gigi is so cute and I love her color.

Valerie, glad that they caught the guy. When we leave the house we turn on the alarm and we also have cameras outside and always close the window and doors. We have some great neighbors that keep and eye on our house when we go on vacation and pick up our mail.

Deb, good luck with your procedure tomorrow.

Garance, congratulations on your anniversary! It's nice to be spoiled at your favorite restaurant.

Hi to Caitlin, Judy and Carolyn!

Josie

Today. I finally used am 8 inch height for the lateral part of Cristi Taylor's Step Heaven, which was only half an hour, I felt.that it was not enougb cardio so I did half an hour of the step portion of Low Impact. Circuit
I am still Iiviing out of boxes and I have not been able to locate High Reps for a week

Hi Everyone,

Today I did ICE Metabolic Total Body, -Double It Premix 1; Muscle Meltdown Chest & Icy Core 1.
Chris's birthday is Friday. He's taking the day off and we are hoping for nice weather so we can get outside and do some biking or hiking. November 10 will be our 9th wedding anniversary. Time has gone so fast! It does not seem like that long.

Deb-I did preorder the KCM DVDs. Yes, unfortunately I had a roommate and some of her friends steal from me. It was a valuable lesson at the time as I was very young and naive and hadn't yet learned how dishonest some people can be. It definitely turned me off of having roommates again and made me very careful about who I let into my home.
Good luck with your procedure tomorrow.

Diane Sue- I like the Next Door app too. There is also a Facebook page for crime reports in our area that is helpful.

Valerie-I'm sorry about all of the property crime. That is a trend here that I hate to see too. So much property crime that it is becoming a new normal, where you expect to have someone trying to steal things and feel like you constantly have to protect your property from others.

Lynda-I'm sure that the flu shot kept me from getting the flu from Chris last year. It was going around like crazy here and I didn't get sick at all.

Lori-I bet Nilla will love Gigi once she's had a chance to get used to her. It sounds like Gigi is going to be a wonderful dog!

Hi to Caitlin, Josie and Carolyn!

Judy
