Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/9

Lori, yes, Cathe has some nice muscle definition in that video clip.

Deb, the Cardio Slam workout is the cardio workout from Strong and Sweaty. I am glad that the procedure was not too difficult.

Valerie, I have an ez curl bar and the padded bar from Beach Body which are better than my full size barbell. It seems that I do not use the full size one very often.

Josie, the yoga works place sounds interesting. I wish I had my TRX where I could hang it instead of use it from the door frame. I have an X Mount but no one wants to install it. For some reason the family thinks they will come in finding me stuck hanging from the ceiling. I got my son to do it for me in one home. Those are awesome for pikes.

Caitlin, I think that I should have taken a rest day. I hardly slept.

Carolyn, thanks I hope things get better. It is worrisome. My daughter told me today if I am lucky it will be something like shingles and not one of the alternatives  I have tried not to research because I would not be able to stop over thinking it.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both Sweat hiit workouts (48.min). I just returned from a 3 mile hike with my older son, DH, and Max. Magnificent foliage and a perfect crisp autumn day.

Deb, I'm happy the procedure went well and you will get more information.

Diane Sue, that sounds painful. Are you sure you should be working out?

Josie, I guess your mom has her own ideas about how she wants to live. It must be hard for everyone and the worry that she will have another emergency.

Lori, puppy fatigue syndrome? Or maybe you have just been so busy lately with work too. Yes, you will have to watch Suits.

Valerie, those easy curl bars sound perfect. Like Lori I injured myself in my shoulder hoisting a barbell over my head, so I frequently sub dumbbells.

Judy, you will have to give us reviews of the new KCM's.

Carolyn, I love that low impact workout. I wish Cathe had more of them as a cardio option live.

Hi to Caitlin.

Good evening ladies!

My trampoline came today so of course I needed to try it out. Did a real quick tabata workout freestyle that lasted about 20 minutes and loved it. What a difference from my cheap one. No comparison at all. Bob also tried the jumpsport and loved it too. Yeah! Would love him to use it regularly. I did Old Style Cardio with Kickboxing this morning. Bob took the morning shift and this allowed me a morning workout. :)

We are having an issue with the puppy and Nilla. The puppy is just too much for Nilla and really scaring her. GiGi means no harm. She just wants to play. Today after an issue Nilla pooped she was so scared. Broke my heart. Need to read up on how to handle this. I will gladly take any advice.

Deb...great news about the test. Good they did a biopsy. Haha! Puppy Exhaustion Syndrome!!! Yup we have it. She is soooo exhausting. Like having a 2 year old!

Judy...I preordered both KCM's this morning. I also just ordered Cathe's 2017 calendar. I haven't always ordered these. Just the last 4 years.

Lynda...so nice to go for a hike with your son. Been a while since I have done one with my son. We both talk about going but never got to it this year.

Diane Sue..hope all turns out good at doctors. I am sure an antibiotic will take care of it. Haha picturing you hanging from the ceiling now!

Valerie...hoping the power stays on and the wind is uneventful. I like the box modication too.

Josie...I am sure you noticed I get bored rather easily and constantly change routines!

Hi to Carolyn and Caitlin!

Hi Everyone,

Today I did ICE Metabolic Total Body, -Double It Premix 1; Muscle Meltdown Chest & Icy Core 1.
Chris's birthday is Friday. He's taking the day off and we are hoping for nice weather so we can get outside and do some biking or hiking. November 10 will be our 9th wedding anniversary. Time has gone so fast! It does not seem like that long.

Deb-I did preorder the KCM DVDs. Yes, unfortunately I had a roommate and some of her friends steal from me. It was a valuable lesson at the time as I was very young and naive and hadn't yet learned how dishonest some people can be. It definitely turned me off of having roommates again and made me very careful about who I let into my home.
Good luck with your procedure tomorrow.

Diane Sue- I like the Next Door app too. There is also a Facebook page for crime reports in our area that is helpful.

Valerie-I'm sorry about all of the property crime. That is a trend here that I hate to see too. So much property crime that it is becoming a new normal, where you expect to have someone trying to steal things and feel like you constantly have to protect your property from others.

Lynda-I'm sure that the flu shot kept me from getting the flu from Chris last year. It was going around like crazy here and I didn't get sick at all.

Lori-I bet Nilla will love Gigi once she's had a chance to get used to her. It sounds like Gigi is going to be a wonderful dog!

Hi to Caitlin, Josie and Carolyn!

Judy

This doctor was not much help really. My daughter is worried. She also says the labs my doctor now uses makes mistakes. I did not see my usual doctor though. I saw the new one that took the place of the one that started the clinic who retired. He does not have very good reviews on health guides or anywhere else. He did not say much about the chain of lymph nodes that are swollen. It was even puffy around them and they are tender. He said maybe I am getting over a virus or something. He did check my white count and came back and said it was a little low. He wants me to go to the lab in a week and get another blood draw to see if it comes back up before he checks bone marrow or something. He did not say he wanted to see me again. My daughter thought that I should have had another appointment and him check the lymph nodes.

Lynda, I don't think the cardio hurts so much. I was planning on doing Metabolic Meltdown but I felt it would irritate the shoulder and neck so skipped it. I do need to figure out how to build up my immunity again. I find it hard to slow down. It is not in my nature to slow down unless I am forced to. I should have asked but I seriously did not think this doctor cared anyway.. The hike sounds so nice. I bet it was beautiful.

Lorie, I am jealous of your new rebounder. I had a friend that I kept talking about my rebounder to. She purchased one like mine and loved it so got herself the Bellicon. She loves it so much. She said there was quite a difference. I hear it is about 2 inches taller than the urban rebounder. So the jumping off and on stuff was a bit uncomfortable though. Urban Rebounding Extreme is the only workouts I have done that have you jumping off and on though. I understand it has a bit more give too.
My dog Mudd was 7 when we got Gertie. She got tired of Gertie constantly trying to play with her. She would play a little and then grumble at her and turn her back on her. Gertie played rough though and I had to stop her from biting chunks out of Mudd. We got through it though and they finally would curl up together and share a mat or curl up under my chair. I had to keep them from going outside together unless I had Gertie on leash or was outside with them. I got a remote collar and once Gertie had a light zap after a sound she never needed me to zap her again. I would never have done that but if saw the side and legs of Mudd you would understand. I also let Mudd go upstairs and put up a gate when I saw she had had enough. Sometimes if I would tell Gertie to stop and she still was determined I put her in her crate for awhile. The thing was if Mudd went in her own crate, Gertie chased her out and took over. She wanted whatever Mudd had. I tried not to use anything that caused jealousy. I wanted them to get along. It took a lot of perseverance. After awhile Gertie learned when Mudd had enough and would back off. Mudd would play a little. Even just the day before she died Mudd ran down the walkway with Gertie who had the rope toy. She tired out fast though and said she had enough. I know dogs do not talk but in her doggie body language and sounds. You would think with the walks that it would help get some of that puppy energy out. I guess it took awhile for Gertie though.

another thing I did was kept a nylon corded lead with the plastic training collar on all of the time and when she did not want to stop when I called and told her down, I would give it a tug and step on it till she responded.

Caitlin, I think you are missing some of your post or something. Sorry!

Hi Everyone,

Chris had a good birthday. We went to a cider mill then did some shopping today. It was a beautiful day!
I took a few photos. The cider mill is about 25 miles from here, in Oakland County.

Deb-I'm glad your test went well.

Diane-I'm sorry your doctor wasn't much help. Can you see another doctor next week?

Caitlin-I'm sorry about your friend. That is very sad.

Lori-I preordered Cathe's calendar too. This will be the 3rd year I've gotten one.

Hi to Josie, Carolyn, Valerie & Lynda,

Judy

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I did go shopping for some new lights, and door handles for the kitchen cabinets. The house is a mess, furniture moved all around etc. We told the painter that we had to have part of our living room back for the weekend, no way I am sitting in the kitchen for 2 days straight. He fixed is so we have a couch and chair, amid the drop cloths etc. :)

Valerie, that storm must have been scary....I hope you don't have too much damage. I like "PES"....:) it's perfect!

Josie, that new place sounds like it has a lot of nice variety.

Caitlin, a rest day is good. If your body tells you to rest, you should do it. So sorry to hear about your friend.

Carolyn, yes, it is a bacteria...google it and you will see all you want to know ( and more!)....I feel better doing some version of an exercise too, even if it's not the actual one. I don;'t feel like such a "quitter".

Diane Sue, Maybe consider a different doctor? Swollen lymph nodes is definitely a sign of an infection. Could you be overtraining?

Lynda, that sounds like the perfect hike, and during the best time of year.

Lori, that is too bad about Nilla and Gigi....but I can see how the puppy just doesn't understand that Nilla is older, and also pretty small and frail. You may have to separate them for a while until the puppy learns that she cannot mess with Nilla. I told John when we got Kylee that she was the last puppy we were going to get....she was so much work! Girls are harder than boys as far as I have had experience with. Didn't know the calendar was ready...need to order that.

Judy, those are really nice pictures, thanks for posting!

Agility class this morning, then just stuff around here....

Take care,

Thank God I am seeing him on. Oct 30th
I say twenty Hail Mary's for him every day

I am doing the step portion of Low Impact.Circuit.

We are expecting the second half of the storm this afternoon and night. it got pretty scary yesterday but hours later than predicted. Lost our TV antenna and a couple trees. we did not lose power though. thought every leaf would be gone after yesterday but no, still a lot of them hanging on.

Helicobacter is a bacteria. it is blamed for a lot of stomach issues, like ulcers and gastritis. curiously many people carry it but have no problems with it. it can be passed between people by a lot of routes. I believe the researcher who believed it was connected to ulcers purposely inoculated himself to prove his point. it is treated with a combo of antibiotics if it is causing problems. yes, google it if you want to learn more.

Caitlin, that is too bad about your friend.

Lori, can you keep the dogs separated... or at least have a place Nilla can go to get away from the "youngster". she is probably suffering from PES too.

diane sue, every time I have gotten swollen lymph nodes I was developing tonsillitis. mine always started on one side of my neck and then became bilateral. I have not had it since I got my tonsils removed. did he check you for strep? lots of times it is viral. I was always very sick with it, "sick in bed" level.

Hello Everyone,
Today I did Great Glutes. I needed to work lower body since I skipped it last week. Afterwards I went to the local farmer's market for fresh vegetables. I also picked up some fresh goat cheese.

Lynda, I looked for a live low impact HiiT for yesterday but I didn't see anything that appealed to me. I need to spend more time reviewing what is available.

Valerie, I hope you continue to be safe during the storms. They look frightening on the news.

Lori, the trampoline sounds like a great workout and a nice change for you. I don't get bored quickly but I do like variety. Sometimes I just want to hear a different instructor's voice.

Judy, thanks for sharing your pictures. I'm sure the cider mill was interesting to visit and I love the way that it looks.

Waves to Deb, Diane Sue, Josie, and Caitlin.

Today I just did yoga and stretching. I did Cathe's Yoga relax, 52 minutes and Barre Amped Lower Body Stretch 19 minutes. More or less a rest day. Everything was achy last night and I thought a good stretch would be all I need.

Judy, the cider mill looks like it would have been fun. I like the pictures :) I am going to change doctors. With our HMO I have to call the insurance company and tell them who I want that is on their network. It won't go into affect till the 1st of November. It is always the first. I still am going in next week to get my blood drawn again. I want to see if the white count improves. I did read in several places one of which was live strong that long cardios can lower the white count as opposed to shorter high intensity work. Although that would not answer why the lymph nodes and pain in my neck.

Deb, I do dread the mess when doing house projects. It feels so good to get everything put back to normal. New lighting and handles will be a nice update. We do not have handles of knobs in our kitchen. I have wanted to add them though. I suppose I could be overtraining. I try to make some of it extra stretching. It seems like I have had more extra days off though with family visits and jury duty etc.. I am going to be easier on myself this week. As I said to Judy, I am changing doctors. It just takes time to do this. I am going to go to my daughter's friends husband. They are his children's godparents. I am sure we will get good care there. His wife is a PA and was in school with my daughter . She has been after me to switch to at least their office. His wife gave me a couple of women doctors there that are good as well. I might do that or go to a specialist or different doctor for the female stuff though. I see them at sports events and birthday parties and stuff all of the time.

Caitlin, it is good that he has your prayers. Being for someone like that can be one of the best things that you can do. You will be appreciated more than you even know.

Valerie, that must have been some storm. That is fortunate that you have kept power. The last one we had blew quite a few leaves all over but nothing major. It is not fun having things take off to the netherland somewhere. We lost a gate once and I never found where it went. The cedar fence went down and the metal posts bent to the point it crushed the neighbors chain link fence behind us.
No, that doctor did not check anything like that. I had thought maybe I had strep when my coughing was at it's worst. I have never tested positive, but my youngest grandson and my 17 year old granddaughter both had it about 3 weeks ago. My daughter and her middle child both had their tonsils out because they both tested positive all of the time. My daughter never got sick though. I guess she was a carrier. I would have thought they would have run more tests than that. Particularly after the blood count came back. I seriously am irritated with what a lot of the medical system has become. It is not as caring as it used to be. I know there are a few, but I think for a lot it has become a job and they just want to do minimal work and send them on their way. Maybe they are not encouraged to do much in the way of follow up? I don't know. He asked if I had coughing and I said that I had. Right now it hurts when I breath in and I have that feeling of mild flu like symptoms (no fever) and my neck hurts and my head hurts. I really do not have the capacity for pushing through a cardio workout. I came home and napped yesterday and slept longer than I thought I would today. I was still tired even after the nap. The only time I remember tonsillitis is a time when I was a child and was very sick. We were in a hotel in England. I think that I mentioned it before. The last time I was very sick like that was a few years ago when I had pneumonia. It was not a good time at all. My husband was out of country. I thought I was going to pass out in the pharmacy when I went to get my prescription. Why I did not call family to pick it up is beyond me.

Carolyn, when I feel like using a little cheese I get it at Sprouts. It is so much better when it is fresh real cheese. The last feta I purchased to use for a noodle free lasagna for my husband was in a tub with a strainer so the moisture drained away from the cheese. It tasted so much better than I get at places like Walmart. I like fresh grass fed sharp white cheddar to use a tiny bit once in awhile.

Did Low Impact Sweat for the first time. so-so. I liked parts but the step sections didn't work too well. I have a high step and some things work OK but others I do on the floor since a high step is too small. as usual, I got mixed up with the footwork and think it will be forever before I can follow some of the moves. I used the slow speed of 0.8 on a few so I could get the footwork closer. you can click it on and off quick;ly. a nice feature on a dvd player.

I think the quality of medical care has changed. everyone has to enter all their own data and they spend most of the appt looking down at the screen and not at you. they are under time pressure to check off necessary "boxes" and stay on schedule. few people seem to be staying around long and building actual relationships, as everyone is in a big clinic now. I don't like it but it's the future.

I had tonsillitis countless times and was usually very sick. tenp, headache, nausea, vomiting, you name it. plus of course a miserable sore throat that always morphed into a headcold. it ended with my tonsils going bye-bye when I was about 25. wish I'd done it sooner.... although the process was unpleasant. diane sue, hope you feel better soon.
