Cathlete
Good morning,

Agility class yesterday, no other workout. The play was a "one woman" one, very strange, and depressing. It got up to 57 here yesterday, like a spring day.

Carolyn, mmm...KCM Lean Body Circuits, not sure if I have that one or not. Good reminder that KCM is always there for days that you don't feel up to a hard workout. How is your husband doing with the reflux issue? What was the things he tried again?

Valerie, great ride! I have frozen brussel sprouts but have no idea what to do with them. Thanks for the link. Did you put onions in? Not sure what station Good Behavior is on. I would think it was available on Acorn but its not. :(. I am scheduled for an Impedance test on 3/2. This is another way to measure whatever ( if anything) is coming up into the esophagus. They do not do these often, and I am not even sure my insurance will cover it.

Diane Sue, that cake sounds amazing..how about a pic? LOL :).

Judy, glad your neck and shoulder are feeling better.

A workout, then HouseMax for me.

Take care,

Deb, I did it exactly as written, cut to half quantity. used fresh sprouts, cut in half. I've never used frozen sprouts so don't know what to recommend. yes, used the onion. I like roasted vegies and do a lot of them. I use parchment paper rather than foil but that's not necessary. I was doing the piece of fish on the same pan and parchment doesn't stick. after roasting, I toss the paper into the wood stove so no fish smell in the trash. I don't like to do dishes and this is a one pan meal. with the parchment, there is zero clean up.

I never roast at 450. too hot, things scorch especially little pieces of onion. this is so easy. I toss everything together in a big bowl, add 1 TB of olive oil, toss, dump onto cookie sheet with parchment paper, stir at half time. the first time I added the cranberries at the end but I don't like them much so I skipped. there is a lot of flavor to this dish, so I would pair it with something plain like a chicken breast or fish. I had a piece of tilapia. I love sweet ( pear) paired with savory sprouts. this will work best with an firm pear, and bosc will hold it's shape and texture better than others.

with a few exceptions, I use fresh vegies. I sometimes use canned corn, or frozen corn, peas, spinach. canned vegies are mushy and too salty, frozen just not good. did you EVER have anything turn out like the picture on the package?? I bought a big bag of sprouts at Costco and tried some new things. not everything succeeds, but that's OK.
I need to look up impedance test. not sure what that is.

diane sue I missed reading about the cake, will go back and look.

took a day off exercise. did garden work yesterday. it was 50 ish, and mild. all the buds are swelling and it felt like spring. Dh has done more than I have. lots of pruning and raking and cutting back dead foliage from last fall.

I saw a promotion piece in the paper for good behavior along with a profile of Michelle Dockery. hopefully it will show up on Netflix sometimes. I liked her in DA too.

I just wanted to tell you that I had to stop doing cardio, as I lost ten pounds without trying. I am sticking to weights now alternating my upper and lower body. I was about 120, and I know muscle weighs more than fat. I am about 110 now, and I wear a size 0 jeans.

Hi Everyone,
No workout today. This is a big football day for people here with the Falcons in the playoffs. I am not a big football fan so my husband is watching with friends. I just want the highlights.

Deb, my husband was having problems with bloating and constipation rather than reflux, but he is doing well now. He started drinking 2 TBSP aloe Vera juice in 8 oz of water daily which has really helped. That was something that I read in the NG's materials.

Valerie that Brussels sprouts recipe sounds delicious. I downloaded it to my recipe app and I plan to make it for dinner tonight. I noticed in the credits that it is from Ayesha Curry's new cookbook.

Deb, I don't think frozen brussel sprouts will work well for roasting because of water content, but I have never tried it. I always buy fresh vegetables. I have frozen broccoli for emergency situations.

Caitlin, it's good to hear from you. It is important to listen to your body and make changes when necessary. Did you cut back on food intake?

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Today was a rest day. We had my grandson's birthday this afternoon. I am tired. I did not sleep much last night so I am thinking an early night for bed.

Deb, here is a picture of the cake. Nothing fancy this time. I wanted something easy over mixing different colors of icing and doing all of the decorating. I need to purchase some more decorating bags. A one woman depressing play does not sound like much fun. I think I would rather sit at home and watch television. We watched the Accountant last night. It was pretty good. I have been reading about epigastric hernias. The reason for this is because 7 years a go I had something move up from under the edge of my rib cage and it hurt terribly. This happened a lot for awhile. I talked to the doctor and she said that she couldn't feel anything there and that there wasn't anything there. I know it was not my imagination. Anyway, it has been over a year since I have had this happen and the other day I was sitting at the computer and started coughing hard and it came up from under the rib cage. It hurt and I managed to stand up and put pressure on it and massage it down. My mid section is still a bit sore. Anyway, I started researching again because I know that there is something happening there. I found this and it can be a result of Acid reflux and coughing as well as heavy lifting. I am not ready to go start getting checked out for something else at any rate. Also I have had a bit more reflux lately. Not helped by a buffalo chicken soup recipe I made that had a full cup of Bob's Red sauce in it. I froze the rest after twice having to resort to an antacid.

Valerie, I have used frozen Brussels sprouts for some salad recipes where I would have normally blanched them. I just thaw them and chop them. It works pretty well. I like to buy a good brand for that. I like a bit of sweet with them as well. I often do a recipe that incorporates some fruit and some nuts with the Brussels sprouts. I don't think that I would roast them though. They had Brussels sprouts still on their stems at Sprouts when I was there recently. I don't think that I have ever seen them grow. It was my grandson's birthday and I made his birthday cake. Not a big deal. I get asked a lot to make the cakes. I generally use a lot of butter and cream along with cream cheese and sour cream in my cakes and icings. Lots of dark chocolate added. My daughter in laws cake had those Ferrero Rocher chocolates candies and icing trim last month.

Cailin, maybe you could add on some protein shakes or something for more calories and nutrition. I sometimes have lost too much weight. Maybe just short bouts of cardio for cardiovascular health along with the weights?

Carolyn, I remember trying some aloe vera gel for awhile. I mixed it with a bit of juice since it does not taste nice. I did not notice any health differences. I have forgotten why I tried it in the first place. That is good that your husband has got some help with it.

Good evening ladies!

Saturday I did SB's complete Barre Amped Bounce DVD. I love this DVD. Barre and Bounce..2 things I am really enjoying right now. 64 minutes and 414 calories and it flies by. Today ended up a rest day. My son and his GF were here for the weekend and Chelsie and I spent the day together shopping. We hit the clearance racks at Macy's and found some great buys. We both were very please. :)

Valerie...Smart to turn around when there is black ice. You hit that and you are down. Not worth taking a chance. I watched the first episode of Good Behavior and on my...she plays a completely different character with an American accent no less. I liked it and will continue. Thought she was great. Since doing WW I have been eating more steamed fish.. actually it is more liked poached. My husband has been making tilapia, sole and haddock with a hint of coconut oil and water. All have been delicious..light and flakey.

Deb...glad the CT was clear. As Valerie mentioned what are the next steps? Really hoping you find a resolution soon. A depressing show is not desirable to me at all. Agility class is a workout in my book!

Caitlyn..good to hear from you. Wow 110 and a size 0!!! That is amazing. I look way to thin and unhealthy if I am that light. I feel and look my best at 138. That is a good weight for me. I am only 5'2" but far from petite..size nine shoe and 7.5 to 8 ring. I really am one of those people that can say I am bigged boned! As long as the extra weight is muscle all looks porportion. Most people are really surprised when I tell them how much I weigh.

Carolyn...yeah Falcons won! We are watching the Pats right now while I am typing this. Keeping my fingers crossed. We actually had roasted fresh brussel sprouts tonight. We use very little olive oil and some salt and pepper. Yum!

Diane Sue..yes that lower body target is a favorite of mine. Sometimes I will just do the hamstring section as a finisher. Nice workouts. I like the firewalker loop section in LL&A and Flextrain. I bought a 2nd Jumpsport. I know I am crazy! I bought a smaller one through Costco. 1/2 the price of what I paid for my larger one. I do not have a membership but my girlfriend does and bought it and I paid her back. It will arrive tomorrow. I want to keep the smaller one upstairs. This way when my son is over we are not dismantling my larger one all the time. It really is a huge pain now that I have the bar installed on it. Plus Chelsie would like to come over and barre and bounce with me on weekends. I will enjoy this.

Judy...glad you are feeling better. The JS Belly Blaster walk came in yesterday and I think I will like it. The metabolism one will be in soon and I am looking forward to it.

Have a great night all!

Diane Sue, we use aloe vera juice, not the gel. It tastes like lemon. I got the gel by mistake once and he didn't like it. I was able to exchange it for the correct item. Lily of the Desert is the brand that I buy. Your cake looks beautiful.

Lori, I can understand why you would want a second Jumpsport. I'm glad you were able to get it from Costco. Their prices were wonderful.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did S&S Bootcamp. A fun workout, and very challenging. Some modifications for me, but still doable.

Valerie, thanks for the tips on that recipe. I need to try it. I have parchment paper so will do it that way. Do you think it would be good with green apples? Good Behavior is on TNT..(which I don't get and is not very "streaming" friendly. I tried it all kinds of ways and it doesn't work, even with their app. An Impedance test, is where they insert something like a chip in your esophagus, that stays there for 24 hours. It measures the back flow of whatever is supposedly causing the heartburn, and also the PH of it. They remove it and can read the results from a computer. It will tell if it is acid, or some other non=acid substance.

Caitlin, good idea to work on the weight work more. I have lost more weight than I wanted, due to food issues, I know how you feel.

Carolyn, thanks for the tip...maybe I will try steaming them first? Good your husband found something that is working for his problem. Not sure why I thought it was a reflux issue.

Diane Sue, that cake is beautiful! What is the topping made of? They look like malted milk balls...LOL. I never heard of that type of hernia, just a Hiatel one, my SIL has that and that causes her acid reflux. They checked for that when I had my scope. I need to gain weight back, but the diet I am on has so little calorie laden food.

Lori, that is so nice that you spent the day with your son's GF again. You are so funny...buying a second Jumpsport! Where do you keep all this stuff? LOL....:)

A workout, then maybe some stuff around here, or help my cousin...not sure yet. No class tonight.

Take care,

Deb, those are malted milk balls lol. I said I wanted it to be easy :) I had not heard of the epigastric hernia before till I was searching. There are a lot of hernias I had not heard of. This one tends to be between the navel and rib cage. Mostly closer to the rib cage. My mother had a hiatal hernia for years. I have not heard of that impedence test. They have so many different procedures that they can do. It would be hard to find calorie dense foods on that diet. Can you eat sweet potatoes?

Deb, I'm not sure an apple will work as well. most apples go to mush when cooked/roasted. think applesauce? buy 1 bosc pear. those are the yellow/brown ones. they roast nicely and keep some shape and some texture even though they get soft. most frozen vegies are cooked to some degree before they are frozen ( blanching) so the probably would not need to roast sprouts as long, and like Carolyn said, may be too liquidy/mushy rather than firm and browned. the first time I try something new, I follow the recipe. If it's a repeater, I make my adjustments the next time.
go nuts... buy a few fresh brussel sprouts (half to 3/4 of a pound) and give it a whirl. I made this again recipe last night. I buy some vegies from Costco. it's a big bag so need several ways to use them all. Lori you are right...sprouts are great roasted after tossing with a little olive oil.
they are so cute when they grow...a big tall stalk 3-4 feet... with the little knobby sprouts sticking out all over. they don't grow well here but I have tried.
Carolyn I hope you liked this dish. I won't take it personally if you didn't! If I were to adjust it, I'd sub some walnuts for the cranberries. they're popular but too sweet for me.
sprouts cook well on the stove top too, cut in half, face down in a pan with a drizzle of olive oil.
I like plain roasted cauliflower too. cut into flowerets, toss in a bit of olive oil, and roasted. I don't like broccoli roasted although lots of people do. it's simple and with just a little oil is much better nutritionally than floating in cheese sauce or something.

lots of people in my family had hiatal hernias.
Lori I think we are similar body type. 5'3". I look best at 135 ....but have not seen that number in a while. I am big boned, broad shoulders solid and muscular. I weighed 110 in 5th grade! would not be good for me now. every calorie and every fat cell wants to stay put. I had fish again last night with the sprouts. I am hoping finally for a loss this Friday weigh in.

diane sue that is a spectacular looking cake!. malted milk balls...who would imagine

Did PHA yesterday and was surprised at how it kicked my butt. I did it with 3 risers but went lighter on weight. took me a bit longer as I never previewed this one. then did most of the ab workout too. one move could not get. don't like to support my weight on one shoulder for that long so will sub something else. I was so-so on the ab workout. I haven't looked to see if the same one appears on other S&S workouts.
Deb I never hear of the impedance test but it sounds like you have a good picture of it. more information will hopefully come from it.

Today I did Cardio Slam with modifications. I decided to continue with the Strong and Sweaty rotation. I have had sore lower body muscles (especially gluteus) since I started the series. I think it's because she has some new and different moves included and I want to become more familiar with the workouts.

Diane Sue, I wondered about the candy on top of the cake too. It looks delicious.

Lori, one of my favorite ways to cook white fish is on a bed of tomatoes. I sauté a couple of tablespoons of chopped onions in olive oil and add a can of diced tomatoes. I cook this for 5 minutes or so to reduce the liquid then I remove from heat and place my seasoned fish on top. I drizzle the fish with some olive oil and bake in oven at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or until the fish flakes easily. My husband loves this and he doesn't care much for white fish.

Waving hello to everyone.

Valerie we were posting at the same time again! We loved the brussel sprouts and I made the recipe as written. I am glad that I lined the pan since I don't always do that. I am another big boned person. Like Lori, people are shocked when I tell them how much I weigh. I am happy where I am now with about 8 more pounds to lose.

Carolyn, glad you liked the recipe. so simple too. I will try the fish one you described. I seem to like simple approaches with not too many ingredients. congrats on getting close to goal. the exercise keeps muscle tone and we all look smaller than the scale implies.

I hate scrubbing pans. parchment totally worth buying if you haven't used it before. you can pick up the food right on the paper, right off the roasting pan too, and pour into serving bowl. then toss or burn the parchment. works great for cookies or other baked things too. I usually get it at Costco. a big roll lasts me a year at least. I was there this morning and they have avocado oil in case you read Cathe's Monday morning newsletter.

Today I did Cathe's Low Impact Circuit Lower body Circuit, 56 minutes, 383 calories. I had to go run some errands since I have my grandson staying tonight and I will be taking him to school in the morning. His mother had to do an early surgery tomorrow so needed someone to get him to school. I was so dragging through this workout today. I am still not feeling up to much. Usually that was always an easy workout to me.

Valerie, I found how the Brussels sprouts grow rather fascinating . There was an employee that I believe was removing Brussels sprouts and putting them in bags. Sprouts gets a lot of local stuff and put it out. I find it interesting watching them with their cleaning and presenting their produce and products. I have never seen a store where there spent as much time and attention on that sort of thing. I find the just doing the PHA lower mix is a lot of work. I haven't tried the abs. I have to get the go ahead to do ab work. I have my 6 week appointment on Wednesday this week. I tend to use candy and nuts in most of my cakes somewhere. I am not a real fan of cake so I make them rather dense as in a pound cake with stuff mixed in and some sort of texture. Funny thing is I usually only eat a small piece myself. Speaking avocado oil, I use it a lot when roasting vegetables.

Carolyn, I like the exercises in the lower body portions of the S&S series. I have seen a lot of women that can carry more weight well. I always seem spongy when I put on much weight. My stop point is when I hit 110. I generally am between 116 and 122. The highest I have ever been was 132. I did not like myself at that weight.

I did not lose the weight on purpose. and I think it was the srtress of the move, and I don't think I have much appetite. I honestly do not know what it is. Oh, my ring size is a size 4. I have very small bones.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was SB Barre Hiit Circuit 39 minutes. I finished it wit SB Bis and Tris. Total time 45 minutes and 285 calories. I was planning to bounce tonight but came home late. Had errands after work and by the time I got home the mood was gone!

My 2nd Jumpsport is delayed a day. Not sure why but the date change tomorrow when I tracked on line. My JS Metabolism Booster did arrive today so all is good. I reviewed the Belly Fat walk I received over the weekend and it looked fun.

Deb..you are funny. It does seem like I have a ton of stuff and I guess you would be correct. Fortunately, our basement is pretty much my Gym so I have a lot of room. However, once my son moves back I will need to rethink the set up a bit.

Diane Sue..loved the cake. I love malted milk balls. Can't remember the last time I had one though. At 138 I am a comfortable 6 and that works nicely for my build. Years ago I was lighter and an still a size 6. Amazing how muscle changes things. 56 minutes is a long workout. Be proud! Give it some more time and you will be right back at your usual workouts and felling great.

Carolyn...your fish recipe sounds delicious! I will pass along to my husband. The closest Cosco for me is over an hour away. Very unlikely I would ever get a membership. I do have a BJ's membership but they do not carry the trampoline. Very thankful my GF ordered for me. So superbowl will be The Pats and The Falcons. This will be a great game!

Valerie..yes it sounds like we are built similar. I am loving weight watches. I got on the scale yesterday and was very pleased with myself. I saw her article about avocado oil but have not read it yet. Will do so after I finish here.

Have a great night all!!!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did S&S Ramped Up Upper Body. Not too much of a calorie burn, but one tough upper body workout for sure.

Diane Sue, yes, I can eat sweet potatoes, and even regular potatoes. I have to start having one or the other with every dinner/and or lunch. I need to gain at least 10 pounds back.

Valerie, will definitely try it with the pear then. I didn't read Cathe's newsletter yet, but have been buying avocado oil for a while, actually bought a new bottle yesterday. :). I like it better than olive oil, and it's is supposed to be better to cook with, something about a higher flash point? or you can use with higher temps?

Carolyn, that fish sounds great!

Lori, I don't know how you do 2 workouts a day, I would be exhausted! Good job on WW!

A workout, then a new class with Kylee this morning, I must be crazy, it will make it 4 classes that I go to with her each week.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Sunday I did a 45 minute Spinerval and yesterday I did the same and added Muscle Meltdown Triceps and Icy Core 1. I'm planning on taking a few more rest/easy days this week and starting a new rotation on Monday. I'm looking at the S & S + RWH one, but I might do Cathe's Feb. rotation if it looks good. Or I might try to redo the S & S only rotation. I will probably decide Sunday night :)

Deb-Avocado oil sounds good. I've been meaning to try it. I hope you can find something out from the impedance test.

Lori-Nice that you got a second JumpSport. I've been looking at them and thinking about it, but I'm not sure I would use it . I would get the folding one if I did.

Carolyn-I agree about Strong and Sweaty, it definitely has some new and different moves and I want to keep doing the workouts to see what kind of results I can get.

Valerie-Thanks for the recipe link. I'm going to try it this week. PHA Training is a tough one. The bonus ab workout is the same on all the dvds. Usually she does 2 different ones for a series, but this one is so challenging I can see why she only has 1.

Diane Sue-I think we are similar. I am usually between 115-120. I have gotten over 130 a couple of times in my life and was not happy with that at all. I am small boned and I felt spongy at that weight.

Caitlin-I'm sorry about the stress. That will definitely take weight off. I've had times where I lost weight due to stress too.

Today I did Total Body Giant Sets and the Bonus Abs. The side plank moves in the Abs workout where she is lifting the bottom leg is very confusing. I don't even try it and have been doing a modified side plank and lifting the top leg. The total time for both was 63 minutes.

Judy, I am continuing the Strong and Sweaty rotation for the same reason--I want to see my results with this series.

Valerie, I read Cathe's article on avocado oil. I bought some a few months ago but have not used it much. I should move it to the front of shelf so that I remember to use it. I automatically reach for olive oil.

Have any of you participated in a Cathe Road Trip? It seems like a fun thing to do and I really wanted to go a few years back but didn't have anyone interested in going with me.

Enjoy your day.

it's the high smoke point with avocado oil. olive oil has a much lower temp where it might start to break down. I've used avocado oil before but I think olive oil is more flavorful. I might try the avocado in the places where I use canola. it is very mild and neutral. still prefer olive in salad dressings and places where more flavor is important.

Carolyn that is the move that I skipped in the Ab work! I thought maybe it was just me and tired, but I didn't feel I could do it. I don't like to lean on one shoulder and wrist that long. thee is something about the movement that I can't seem to "get". I will try your modification or just do ankle grabbers.

we did a road ride yesterday , for 15 miles and an hour 15 min. still pretty cool for road riding so we started at about half what we normally want to do. wind chill is a much bigger factor on road riding than it is for mt biking.

Judy thanks... I hadn't looked for a 2nd Ab workout in S&S. now I know there isn't a #2 version. I thought it was an odd mix of kind of easy and very hard. I totally skipped the side plank move Carolyn is talking about. just sat and watched. there was another one that was kind of an elevated crunch, leg extension that I'm sure I didn't get right either. If I don't preview, I just get surprised.

My friend with pancreatic passed away sunday morning. I found out for sure yesterday. so sad. she fought so hard it got her anyway. Not a good day.
