Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/22

Today was a short workout. I did SS Total Body Giant Sets Timesaver Lower Body only, 32 minutes, 142 calories. By the time I came back from taking my grandson to school and doing some errands I just was not feeling the workout. I thought I was watching my grandson overnight and taking him to school because my daughter had an earl surgery. It was that she was having surgery herself. She has had real problems with fibroids and had an ablation surgery this morning. Hopefully her pain is a lot better after this. Tomorrow is my doctors follow up visit. I mad it early so it will depend on how early I get up whether I get in a workout or not.

Lorie, maybe there was a weather related delay? That is good that you got your new workouts :) Muscle does make a huge difference in how the weight is carried. I was at 122 pounds 44 years ago when I got married and my wedding dress is so big on me I could just about turn around in it at the same weight .

Deb, I think that avocado oil stays safe at higher temperatures. My husband doesn't like it when I fry his eggs in it. Are you completely grain free? or gluten free? I buy Bobs Red Mill Gluten free oats and use them once in awhile. I am not big on eating grains though. Eventually you will find the combinations that work for you to keep your weight right. Kylee should be the best trained dog around with all of the classes. I bet it is really rewarding for you and Kylee though.

Judy, it will be interesting seeing what you choose to do ;) I am not ready to commit to a rotation for awhile. When I weighted 132 I worked at a donut shop. Need I say more? I have tried lifting heavy and letting my weight go up but I always hate the results and end up working harder to get the weight back down.

Carolyn, I think I have done a move like I saw Cathe do on the S&S workouts. It is on a Z Cut ripped abs or something like that. The advanced ab workout on that dvd is a tough on. Zuzka uses weight in it too. I don't pull it out often because even though I like to work abs, it is tough and carries some dread. Particularly because I am having to balance on one arm a lot.

Valerie, the first time I bought avocado oil it was so bad tasting and it had a grainy texture. I thought I could never like avocado oil after that. Then I bought some from Sprouts that was a different brand and it was good. I checked the other oil and it was way past the date by a couple of years when I purchased it from Target. I am sure it had gone bad. I never use canola oil. It comes from the rapeseed and was not originally designed for human consumption. I read a whole thing on this. It was cheap and they figured out how t market it. I worry about how healthy it is. If I were to use another oil other than the basic olive oil and coconut oil I use it is nut oil and I might use some sunflower oil or palm oil. Speaking of oils, I need some nut oil to make some mayonnaise for some of my dressings. Sometimes if I have light olive oil I will use it but, since I buy most of my oils at Sprouts they only carry Extra Virgin Olive oil. No light. It always puts me in a dilemma when baking something that calls for oil because Extra Virgin Olive oil does not taste good in baked things. Sometimes I get away with melting coconut oil or butter.
I am so sorry to hear that your friend with pancreatic cancer passed away. I know that hurts.

Good evening ladies,

This morning I did JS Arms followed up with a treadmill tabata workout I had and forgot about. It alternated between strength and treadmill tabatas. I used my Jumpsport in place of the TM and I loved it. Was fun and flew by. Total time was 45 minutes.

My jumpsport arrived today and I already have it set up. It came with a bar but I will not add it on. Will make it easier to move around when Chelsie comes over to workout. My two cats are already laying on it as soon as I finished adding the legs. Funny how they need to "claim" everything.

Valerie...I am so sorry to read of your friends passing. So very sad. Good that you went for a long ride.

Judy...I have been following SB Detox rotation. Today's workout had a ton of planks which is not good for my shoulder so I subbed in JS arms. So far I am enjoying it. I started S&S but could not get into it. Will try again in the Spring. I have not been doing that many Cathe workouts this winter and not sure why. I love my Jumpsport! If I used my spin bike more often I would never have bought one. It is an investment. My large one I bought with a gift card I received from my boss due to my conference work. That is one of the reasons why I did not feel guilty buying the second. Well that is how I justified it anyways!! Lol! Can't wait to hear which rotation you choose.

Diane Sue...a short workout can be really effective. A friend of mine had ablation surgery and did well. Hoping your daughter has the same success. Yes think the weather delayed it. We had snow and heavy winds last night. Was an ugly commute this morning. I agree it is amazing that the weight I am at and I fit comfortably in a 6. My husband is into Collagen right now. He bought type 1&3. Thought I read you use it. Do you notice a difference with your joints at all using it?

Carolyn...those side planks are killer for me and an accident waiting to happen. I have yet to do the S&S Giant Sets. I have never been to a road trip but have wanted too! One of these days I will make it. We should all plan to attend one and meet up. That would be fun.

Deb...I did like Ramped Up Upper when I did it. Great workout! My second workouts are short and sweet lately. Last year I was working out more especially with my lunch ladies but I have been so busy I just can't take the time. We were supposed to start after the 1st of the year but we have not started yet. We have been talking about it but that is it.

Have a great night all.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. Was not feeling well in the morning, but things got better as the day went on. I had the new class with Kylee, which is a daytime class at Noon on Tuesdays. I think I need to give up one of my other classes. Four times a week in a little much. :).

Judy, "so many rotations, so little time"...LOL... I know how you feel. I think you will like Avocado oil...it really light and refreshing. Not so good on salads though...not much flavor. I like it for cooking.

Carolyn, I have not done the bonus abs yet, but heard from a lot of people that it is really challenging. I cannot do any of the side plank type moves that Cathe does, I usually stay down and just use my top leg. , or when she does straight leg lifts on her side, I do bent knee ones. I still feel like it gets to my core. No, have never done a Cathe road trip.

Valerie, so sorry about your friend, she was a real fighter.

Diane Sue, good luck with the appointment tomorrow. I hope all went well with your daughter. I have found that coconut oil works pretty well in baked goods. I agree, olive oil would not be good.

Lori, good for you for getting that 2nd jumpsport...and you justified it just right! LOL. I bet the Lunch Ladies will be back on track by the spring.

Work in the office from 12-4 today, then agility class....I think this may be the class I give up temporarily, at least while I am working for John. it's tough running from the office, to get Kylee, then back out to the training hall.

Take care,

I am assuming a little here. my friend was admitted into an experimental new drug protocol with only a few people. side effects from the chemo are what did her in. she had new tumor sites in critical places so she tried to go for the possibility of shrinking the new tumors. the aggressive chemo treatment is what killed her. so it was a gamble.... it didn't extend her life at all but shortened it. I feel bad for her. she didn't deserve this but, who does? Thank you all for you kind words. yep, she did everything she could. I will miss her.

I agree, the flavor olive oil brings to things makes it wrong in most baked goods. I use olive oil for most cooking. I use a little butter for flavor, like in piecrust. no margarine. I have a big jug of coconut oil that I try to use more often. it's always a solid brick at room temp and h hast o be scraped out to measure. I have a new version of a morning glory muffin recipe I want to try that uses it. I used to use corn oil but with all the genetic engineering going on with corn, I haven't used it lately. I can't eat corn on the cob unless I grow it myself. all the commercially grown corn is modified for enhanced sweetness. it tastes like saccharine, spit-out bad. frozen corn is still usually OK. one of the few frozen vegies I still use.

I never went on a cathe road trip either. the locations are a long trip for me. we are united on side planks being troublesome. I feel unbalanced and can't block my feet so tip forward or backward. I never figured out when I hurt my shoulder I am leery of doing anything that focuses so much on one shoulder -arm -wrist. time to modify!

No workout yesterday. time got away from me. will do MTB or flex train I think.

Deb, parchment keeps everything from sticking. things brown on it as well as on a plain sheet pan but no clean up is what I like. foods with a lot of liquid will run underneath it though and defeat the purpose. at first I only used it for cookies. I don't make cookies often so tried it with fish and loved it. then moved on to vegies. I HATE scrubbing pans.

My workout today was JS Step and Stride from her Burn Fat and Have Fun dvd. I didn't think I would like this one but it was a nice short cardio workout. She used a mini Step, which was optional, and the moves were similar to the basic classes from my old gym.

Diane Sue, I'm sure that your daughter will be fine following the surgery. I had that procedure done for fibroids and so did my youngest daughter.

Valerie, I am sorry to hear about your friend. I still use canola oil occasionally but I am trying to move away from it. It's difficult with some recipes.

Deb, it does sound like you may need to adjust your schedule a bit with the classes for Kylee.

Hello to all!

Today I did Cardio Slam. I had to cut it a bit short to get ready for my doctor appointment this morning. It said 41 minutes on the case but in reality it was 51 minutes. I skipped the last 3 step moves and did just the standing stretches, 45 minutes, 343 calories. I was trying to multi task to dry my hair and put on make up at the same time. I made it to the doctors office with 3 minutes to spare :) Things went well at my appointment. He says everything is good and I can start back to my regular workouts but to ease into the upper body work and not to hit it hard for a couple of more weeks. He also spent some time discussing with me how to try to get the people that read my mammograms and tests like that to understand the need to look carefully at the implants and not to point out silicone behind the implants as a leak so I do not have to go through more surgery if it is not necessary. Also, I was glad to hear him mention that if the lymph nodes become painful or cause problems then I do need to have them checked and they may need to be removed. I had read this and that women who had problems had to sometimes go to another state to find a doctor that would listen and willing to do surgery. They all seemed to get batter once that was done. Most were those that had the older silicone implants. I have spent a lot of time researching lymph node issues. He says he understands that it is probably a concern for me. He is willing to help if I have any problems. I was happy to get rid of the medical foam pads I have had to stuff my bras with. I came home and tossed them into the trash. What a relief ! We are talking about 1/2 inch thick to add some pressure.
My energy was a bit better this morning. I would really have liked to do the entire workout. I did not modify as much this time. I did not do the burpees and plank type moves though. I wasn't sure about that till after the visit.

Lori, my husband saw the Jump Sport in my Amazon cart. He said he thought I already had one of those jumping things. I had to explain to him the differences. Collagen has been one of the best things I have done for my joints. I will tell you though that type 1&3 are more for skin and type 2 is generally for joints. I did get results with the 1 and 3 though when I first started taking collagen. I had purchased some from Walmart for skin and nails that had vitamin C in it which helps the absorption. I noticed my joints got better and my fingers quit swelling and locking up. After that I did more research. I am really liking the Vibrant Health Joint formula that I posted before that also has hyaluronic acid in it along with glucosamine chondroitin and some digestive enzymes. But, they all work to some extent. It took me a while to realize that my joints were not hurting since when I originally started using it I was looking at the skin. When I ran out my fingers started back to swelling and hurting and that is when I knew it worked for my joints. I don't like to be without it. It was in the 70's yesterday and then today 40s. It was 37 when I went out to the doctor this morning.

Deb, sorry you started out not feeling well. I can understand the need to drop a class for awhile while working. That would add a lot to your days. You probably don't need to add too much to the stress levels when you are having the gi problems anyway. My daughter said they seemed to think the surgery went well. She is hoping she gets over feeling weak by tomorrow as she has to go to work tomorrow.

Valerie, I feel bad for your friend. I know she kept her hopes up that she would be able to overcome it. I saw this with my cousin. It got to the point that the chemo was killing her and they had to stop. Her last facebook post was heart wrenching.
I made muffins with coconut oil and took them to my daughters. Everyone thought they were the best flavored muffins they had eaten. I do hate that is turns solid. It makes it an extra chore to measure out. They really couldn't put it in sticks like butter though because in summer it seems to stay a bit more liquid. They do have that Carrington brand of coconut oil that is liquid and has no flavor. I tried it once but wonder that it is as good health wise since they had to have modified it to make it like that. I use coconut oil in Gerties dog treats. I do try to use olive oil a bit more for salads though. It depends on the food whether I use coconut oil or olive oil. I prefer fish cooked in coconut oil, chicken it depends on the dish. I like a tiny bit of coconut oil and some pink salt on fresh cooked green beans. I buy frozen corn. That is what I use once in awhile if a soup or something calls for corn. I do not eat it very often. I loved it when my Dad grew it and would bring me corn. I miss fresh corn. Cathe's road trips are always way too far for me.
Parchment paper has been staple item in my house since I discovered how nice it is.

Good evening ladies...

I did not workout this morning. Was planning to but my little Nilla had a real nasty seizure this morning and no way was I leaving her. It is so sad to see her like this. I helped her through it and she stayed in my arms for an hour afterwards. My husband feels terrible as he forgot to give her her meds the night before. It happens. We try our best and have done a really great job of consistency but every now and then we both forget. It is rare but it has happened in the 12 years that she has had seizures. A seizure can come on with just one missed dosage. My husband was home most of the morning and she was back to herself before he needed to leave which was comforting. I ended up working out tonight..did SB's Lower Body BC Barre followed up with a PowerJump time saver I made up. Total time was 45 minutes. Can't remember the calorie burn...think it was just about 350.

Valerie...so sad about your friend. Chemo can be so hard. My mom never bounced back from it either. So sad to see a loved one go thru that. Like Diane Sue..Depending on what we are cooking we will use either olive or coconut oil. Love scrambled eggs with a hint of coconut oil.

Deb...glad you felt better. I would be miserable if I had places to go four times a week! I think that is my problem now. I have so many choices in workouts it is hard to stick with just one rotation. Not sure if I have mentioned we sent GiGi for professional training. Right now she has been gone since Saturday. The plan is for one or two weeks depending how she does. A good friend of my husband's opened his own business and trains dogs. He knows him well otherwise we would never have let her go. He has her at his home which is nice too. We made the decision when she did a Houdhini and got out of her harness and ran for the road. Scared us so much. We miss her and get daily updates with pictures. We will be visiting her Saturday and it could not come soon enough!

Diane Sue..glad your appt. went well. Great news! Thanks for the info on the Collagen. Aftr he bought it he thought he should have bought the type 2. He will use this up then buy the 2. I am going to start using it too. Figured it could not hurt. Funny your husband noticed the Jumpsport. :)

Carolyn...I have accumulated a few JS DVDs the past year but do not think I have that one. Will need to check. I love when I start off thinking if I would like a workout or not and end up enjoying it.

Have a great night!

Did total body metabolic. needed a familiar workout I could get done without fuss, and this is my fall back right now. then had cousin and wife over for his birthday late lunch/dinner. oh my .... they brought a chocolate cake to die for. it was so good! I haven't had chocolate cake in I can't remember when. a small piece, but it was rich. a salad and grilled chicken for dinner which is what he wanted ....so not a total diet blow out. had a little garlic bread with it, and some sliced oranges and avocados.

Lori that is unfortunate she had a seizure. glad she is settled back down... good plan to get Gigi trained. all dogs but especially big dogs should know the basic commands and learn to follow them. for their own safety and to make them better companions. my aunt had a big dog. got loose, ran into the road and was hit. very expensive surgeries followed. he had been trained but when she inherited him, she let him do whatever and he got very unruly. its bad if they weigh 15 lbs, but really terrible if it's 110 lbs.

some cancers are so persistent. the drugs that will stop or slow them re so toxic they stop normal tissue from functioning too. she knew the odds though and wanted to try.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I need to get back into it...just not feeling it right now.

Valerie, that is sad about your friend, but she did put up a fight, and it sounds like she was suffering horribly. I like parchment paper too, except I wish it came in flat sheets instead of a roll. I always have a hard time keeping it flat.

Carolyn, that JS workout sounds good. Does she have previews of these on a site or on YouTube?

Diane Sue, that is great that you can now start some other workouts, but I can see how the DR would want you to ease into upper body and core work. Nice that you have found a doctor with an open mind that listens to your concerns. Glad your daughter's surgery went well. Does the collagen for skin do anything?

Lori, poor little Nilla...glad she is back to herself again.

Not sure what is up for today, John's day off, I would like to do something out of the house.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did 4 DS Total Body Premix. I went very light for upper body and even did some of the shoulder sets with no weight at all. My right shoulder started bothering me last night and is really sore this morning :( It's only the shoulder this time, not my neck or upper back. I'm going to do the yoga tune up for upper body and see if that helps. I can get into the chiropractor tomorrow too.

Deb-Four classes a week is a lot. I don't blame you for dropping one of them. I hope you get to do something fun today.

Lori-I'm sorry about Nilla's seizure :( That must be so scary for you and for her. I'm glad she is better. I think that's a great idea to get GiGi trained. I bet you will be very happy with the results.

Valerie-It's very sad what your friend went through. She did everything she could. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Carolyn-I've never been to a road trip. Cathe's gym is close to where my husband grew up and we have talked about driving out there. I'd love to visit the gym.

Diane Sue-Thanks for the info on the collagen. I think I will start using type 2 also. I've been taking a Glucosamine & MSM supplement and I think it's helping a little. It's great that your doctor appointment went well.

Is there a good way to measure coconut oil? I bought it mostly as a skin treatment when I was itching and didn't want to use lotion since I didn't know what I was sensitive to, and thought it might be something in lotions. I have a big tub of it. do you scrape it out with a knife and melt it to measure? I don't want to melt the entire tub!. I need a half a cup to try these muffins.

when I had a big dog, a dobie, I went to a dog obedience class at the Y. It was a great investment of time and not much money. he trained easily. once they start paying attention to you, it makes each step easier. just basics like sit, stay, come. and walking on a leash without pulling. as a cyclist, I hate to approach unleashed owners with dogs because you can't tell if they are in control or not.

I usually take glucosamine with chondroitin. and some vitamin d in the winter due to our lack of sunshine. that's about it.

Deb I know you can get parchment in sheets... just not sure where. King Arthur baking company? probably other places. I like the roll so I can rip off whatever size I need. when I get it at Costco it's usually 2 rolls bundled together for about 9.99.

Hello Everyone,
Today was PHA Training. That's a tough one, but fortunately not too long. I really like alternating between lower body and upper body. I also did Yoga Tune-Up Quick Fix for lower back.

Valerie, I used coconut oil in banana bread that I made over the weekend. I measured out the desired amount then melted in the microwave for a few seconds. Because I am never sure if the amount will be the same when melted I try to start with slightly less. If more is needed I can spoon in and stir it all to melt.

Deb, it sounds like you need to change up your exercise routine for a while. Judy's idea for active rest week maybe with some flexibility and stretching is a good one. The Jessica Smith workouts are good for that and KCM's Start Here is another one that I use when I don't want to workout but I know I should do something. JS does have a free Stride and Step on YouTube but it looked very boring when I previewed it. That's why I didn't expect to enjoy the Step and Stride on the DVD, however, it was much better than the free one. You can find a short preview of the DVD on YouTube if you google the name.

Diane Sue, I'm glad that you are able to get back to full workouts. Progressing slowly is a good idea.

Have a great afternoon.

Today I did Strong and Sweaty Boot Camp Basic Premix 1 that includes the abs. I did not do the push ups/fly portion. I just did some run ups on the step. Also I skipped the push ups on that final ab combo. I just did the plank walks. I went light on the whole workout. Mostly a bit lower than Cathe other than just lower work. This was 58 minutes, 356 calories. I then did Lean Legs and Abs mix, timesaver 3 chair/firewalker and bonus barre. I wore 3# ankle weights for the bonus barre and on the chair portion I used a 10# dumbbell and the blue firewalker loop for firewalkers. I used pink for the side lying outer leg stuff. I can never manage that with heavier. This was 37 minutes, 143 calories. 499 total calories and 96 minutes. I still go nuts over the varying calorie burns. Boot Camp was 265 Fit Bit :O , Calories burned calculator Net calories 356, Map My Fitness using blue tooth and the fit bit, 469, Cathe 500 at a met value of 8. I checked it with a met of 6 which felt more how I thought it felt and it would have been 371. I took the next to the lowest burn as Fit Bit was just too low IMO. I put my Paleo Taco Soup crockpot recipe since my granddaughter is coming here to get ready to go cheer for her game tonight. It is her favorite.

Lori, that is too bad that Nilla has the seizures. I can understand the occasional missing the medicine. I am glad she is okay. That is good that you have someone that you trust to train Gigi. I have deliberately left the gate open when putting out trash cans and things as a training tool. I tell Gertie to stay and she waits at the gate even though she cannot see me. My dog Mudd would have been off like a shot. It was one of the most frustrating things. I generally had to go in the house and not be visible for her to come back looking for me and I was always afraid some trouble would come from her being out. So I have been vigilant with Gertie.

Valerie, it is nice to have a workout that doesn't take much thought while doing it. It generally moves faster. No pauses and changes. That was nice that you made a special dinner . At least the request was not completely unhealthy. I don't blame you for enjoying a small cheat. It never hurts once in awhile. I just measure the coconut oil like I would the old Crisco shortening. Then I melt it if that is what the recipe says to do or if I am subbing for another fat. I find if it is measured in Tablespoons my metal measuring spoon works much better than those round bowled plastic ones.

Deb, I think the collagen helps the skin some I have noticed my nails being stronger. I think that you can find packages of parchment sheets in the cake decorating areas of the stores. I have also seen some recently in Walmart that was in sheets. I know what you mean about it wanting to roll up.

Judy, I am sorry that your shoulder started hurting even though you went light on the weights. That is so frustrating. I noticed mine hurting a bit yesterday and I guess it was because I used the 3 and 5 lb dumbbells on the cardio this time. I am going to have to build back up on the upper weight work. The collagen formula I am using has MSM in it as well.

Carolyn, I was going over the premixes on PHA to see which one would have the least amount of chest work in it this morning. I have one I think would work for starters.

Thanks for the ideas on the coconut oil. I don't usually use it in baking but I'm not using it for anything else and it's a huge tub of it. this was for a new version of Morning Glory muffins. with half a cup of coconut oil they are probably not WW friendly but they are better than what DH is eating lately. they had a shredded apple and carrot. I was afraid it would spatter in the micro.

we did a road ride today, 15 miles on the trail. 1 hr 15 min. it was warmer today so I think next ride we will go back to our 26 mile regular one, depending on the temp. we've put off riding until afternoon when it's a little warmer.

all the riding we do, we see well behaved dogs and some who are a terror.. children too!

Judy sorry your shoulder is acting up. when I had the PT last year they told me to mainly not do anything that made it hurt. also to be careful not to do things with my shoulder "hiked up"..... the therapist was right, I was doing that... raising the shoulder on the injured side. I'm not sure if it was a self protective move? once I became aware I was doing that, I got diligent about not raising my shoulder and keeping my shoulders level. I think that was a big help in recovering. I also took days off without exercising it at all. shoulders sure are funny and hard to figure out the problem.

Good morning ladies...this morning was SB Arms followed up with her new upper body bounce she posted yesterday. I love how she incorporates pull ups using the Jumpsport bar. A really great workout. I then did a Power Jump "Electric" section from one of the workouts. Today was all short workouts but very effective put together. Total time 39 minutes 252 calories.

Valerie...we are happy with sending GiGi off to the trainer. In chatting with him today he agrees 2 weeks will be good for her. He loves her and said she is the sweetest but a typical lab and tons of energy! We miss her so much but know it is for the best. We do not live on a real busy street but the cars fly down it. Crazy how fast they go. 15 miles must be a breeze for you. Good to get out there. I can not remember the last time I had chocolate cake. My mouth was watering listening to you mentioning how delicious it was!

Judy...oh so sorry about your shoulder. I really should do something about mine instead of learning to live with it. Figured if I just do not do the moves that hurt all is good right? Does not solve the problem. Hoping the Yoga helps.

Deb...you'll get back onto working out. Sometimes you just need a couple days off. Nilla has been doing great since the seizure. She is my little baby and I love her so much. Hard for me to see her like that. You would think after 12 years of this it would get easier on us but it never does.

Diane Sue...that is one of my favorite leg premixes..and yes I use the blue firewalker for the side leg work. I swear I am crying towards the end but I love the deep burn! GiGi would fly out the gate if left open. We had to put a gate up in the foyer to keep her going out the front doot everytime someone opened it. We started using the Collagen and eventually will get type 2. Not sure why he bought type 1&3. But I will love it for my skin! :)

Carolyn..nice workout today. I bet the yoga felt great after PHA. I still have not done PHA! I made up a premix the other day and was planning to try out on Saturday but my son told me today he will be coming here this evening and staying the weekend so there goes that plan.

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

Still no workout, maybe the treadmill this morning.

Judy, I hope your shoulder is ok....did the chiropractor help? What do they say about it? I would like to do one of Cathe's Live classes...live!

Valerie, yes, I scrape out the coconut oil into a glass or plastic dish and put in the microwave before measuring. Then just pour back any extra. It doesn't spatter if the bowl or whatever you are using is deeper and I don't fill it to the max.

Carolyn, I hope to get back to some workouts starting Sunday. I liked when I was alternating Live with S&S, so maybe that, or I will to go over to YouTube and check our some JS.

Diane Sue, nice workouts...as long as you are keeping the abs and upper body to a minimum...Does the collagen help your skin on your face for example?

Lori, nice workouts! Good that you will get Gigi back soon. I would be going crazy if I had my dogs gone for 2 weeks! Will the trainer show you all the commands and how they are to work with Gigi? Our club training is more where we train you to train your dog.

Maybe the treadmill, then going to my friends (weather permitting) to finally! finish watching Suits last season. I guess the new ones started this week or last...

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

I forgot to say I had two cortisone shots into my shoulder too, fairly far apart. I still don't know what caused the initial problem, but once it's irritated, shoulders seem to continue to be, even by normal activity. If it is going on and on, maybe you should get an orthopedic opinion. my discomfort was fairly constant but it went away with in 10 seconds of getting the shot. going kayaking too soon after is what reactivated the whole problem, so I didn't do that after the second shot. my doc was not quick to recommend surgery but the cortisone and then the PT helped. it still took a long time to get better. it seemed like therapy, then ice, then rest for a couple days was the key for me. it DID get better just not as fast as I wanted.

IMO half the problem with dog training is training the owner. you have to keep reinforcing the commands or the dog forgets. we saw that happen in a couple months with our auntand her dog Jack. she inherited an obedient very well trained dog but didn't use the commands and let him do whatever he wanted. he got incredibly unruly and was a huge behavior problem. he was a big dog, she was tiny, and she WAY overfed him. she could not control him at all. he'd jump all over people and was thoroughly obnoxious. it was so sad to see him go from well trained to obnoxious in a year.

Today I did a Cardio Slam timesaver premix that reduced the floor and mat cardio sections and kept all of the Step portions. It was 35 minutes long.

Valerie, my experience with my shoulder is similar to yours. I had PT and later a cortisone shot which helped eventually. It was a long recovery period (more than a year). I do feel like once injured the shoulder is prone to weakness. I was not using both shoulders equally and ended up with frozen shoulder. I have since done more research and I try to strengthen both sides of my upper body. I am very careful about doing certain movements and weight choices.

I have been trying to find an entry door handle set without much luck. We need a specific type since the door has glass but I can't find it in the stores. I'm going to search online again this afternoon. I thought this would be a simple task.

Enjoy your day.

This morning I did Cardio Slam again, I didn't do all of the step last time. I did the mix that does not have the mat portion in it, 34 minutes, 244 calories. I then did Ice Low Impact Sweat workout 2, 28 minutes, 219 calories. I finished off with Yoga Relax express #1 from the Low Impact series, 28 minutes, 45 calories. I chose this one because there was not a bunch of up dog down dog flow to it. Total workout time was 90 minutes and calories burned, 508.

Valerie, I think I recently saw a recipe for morning glory muffins on either Yummly or Pinterest. I think anything from scratch ingredients is going to be healthier than packaged store bought snacks. I don't make muffins for myself often but I do make them for family brunch quite a bit. Always with coconut oil. The family loves them. I have a grain free lemon blueberry one that actually goes over well too. Those cortisone shots do work fast. When I had my knee surgery I was told I would feel great in 2 months and be able to do just about anything again if I just cross train. It hurt almost as bad as before they repaired the torn meniscus. He gave me an injection and it made the difference. It did go back to hurting once in awhile till I finally got it rehabilitated. I can do most anything, but once in awhile I push it over the edge and have to go back to rehab work. I think after my rotator cuff injury and this last surgery I am afraid to try pull ups again. Hanging from the bar in the doorway does not seem like a good idea at all. The doctor told me it puts the rotator cuff in a vulnerable position. I still have numbness from the biopsy they did on my lymph nodes. My shoulder area up to my neck has started itching again. I keep hoping it will just heal.

Lori, we have had two dogs that did that. One was in an apartment. She was well behaved indoors but she would take off like a shot as soon as the front door was open. My husband would end up chasing her all over the place. We finally got fed up with it and sold her. I felt bad,, but after a year of trying to train her ( we needed more knowledge and help with training) We gave up. I am more stubborn with it now than I was then. That was when my adult children were young. Chasing her around the apartment complex was not the thing my husband wanted to do when he opened the door coming home from work. Let alone being in uniform doing it. She was a Springer Spaniel. My daughter was having some problems training Hershey, her chocolate lab. She talked to the trainer and said she thought since Lucy her deceased Golden Retriever had been so easy to train that the lab would too. He said there was a difference in the nature of the two dog breeds. Labs are harder. Gertie was pretty stubborn when she was a pup. I read and watched everything I could find to deal with the training. I think that 1 and 3 type of collagen is the most carried type in places like Walmart and Target. It takes them awhile to find the market for some products. How does SB do pull ups with the bar on the rebounder? I am thinking maybe how Amy Bento does on one of her older workouts with a body bar across two folding chairs and sort of lying under it while doing the pull ups. The upper body is elevated a bit. I think she may have done some once with a bar across two stacks of a lot of risers once or maybe I am not remembering correctly. I just remember wondering how many people had that many risers to use. She is creative in her workouts though.

Deb, I would say the collagen helps the skin. I had to think about it a bit. It has been much smoother, but I also have switched skin care products to the 100% Pure products and using a natural cream face wash from Alba that is supposed to be detoxing. I need to replace the moisturizer since I am almost out. I just replaced the Coffee bean eye cream. So, it could be a combination of things. I try not to melt my coconut oil in the microwave. Heating it and reheating it would probably do away with the health benefits. I try not to reheat things in the microwave too often because the bouncing around of the molecules does away with nutrition in the food. At least that is what I have heard. A lot of Paleo sites never have you cooking in the microwave. It does come in hand when in a hurry though or thawing at the last minute. If I think ahead enough I sit put some coconut oil in a dish that I can sit in some warm water to help soften it. I am thinking of having my daughter do another skin peel and see how well I do along with taking the collagen. It has been several years since I have had her do one. I do not enjoy the redness, itching and peeling part at all but it generally leaves the skin smoother and pores less prominent. At least in the two times that I have done it.

Carolyn, I kind of thought about trying that mix today. The mat portion seems so long. I was looking at a mix on Ice Sweat that I have not tried, I think #10? it is first half of number 2 with the step and last half of #1 on the floor. I think I might like that one.
