Pentagenarians & Beyond: 12/29/2024

Today I did CDorner Cardio Aerobics old school 34 minutes, 194 calories, heart rate 142/166, 4,413 steps and CDorner mobility flow, 30 minutes, 47 calories. Also some back pod work.
My grandson is coming tomorrow to spend the night. I had to take my dog to the vet yesterday for a yeast infection.

Valerie, I am hearing some fireworks going off here. Not too bad though. My dog has whined a bit, but not bothering her much. Your dinner sounds yummy.

Shannon, I used to have Body Strike workouts. Good for you getting through it. Don't those do a long set of moves all on one side before repeating on the other side? I have had different workouts that did that and found it frustrating if I wanted to shorten the workout. Cat doors seem to sometimes welcome other cats in. I was at my grandmother's one time and there was a cat fight under the bed. Functional lower body and upper body would be quite the workout. I have used the premixes to shorten things up. If you have dvds there is one that omits the firewalker bands and one that omits the step segments.

Carolyn, nice work on Functional Lower Body. I did that one yesterday.

Cathy, good job on Body weight and bands.

Judy, PT helps, but it sure takes consistency. I think I am feeling pretty good and get to something heavier and it sets me back.

Happy New Year!

I did Functional Barre Fusion this morning. Really not sure what to think of that one. I can see using parts of it with other things, and I think the core all together would be good. Nick's flight home was good. Drive wasn't fun, but could have been way worse. Though if it was going to be worse, I'd have sent DH. LOL For 2/3rds of the way there and back, it was that annoying snow that lands more like rain on windshields and roads. Temps were in the low-mid'30's, but things were actually staying on other surfaces closer to home, and the northern end was just wet. Nick plans to do a 30 day yoga to start the year, so we're planning to do that together while he's home.

Shannon we have had an endless round of strays since we moved here in '97. Currently, have one that comes and eats, that I keep telling to go find another home as we are CLOSED. Some have been untouchable, others I've caught and managed to pass on to adoption people. All four of our current ones started out that way, and it's just a big personality clash than I'm not willing to add more drama, too. Our neighbors have an elaborate above ground pool set up and the cats can get under it. I have both those finished combos in the workout I put together.

Valerie we don't usually have much firework activity for New Year, but my body did it's "hey let's just nap" version of sleep last night and I woke up around 11:30. For about 1/2 an hour someone nearby was randomly setting off booms, no rhyme or reason to the timing. Fortunately they stopped before I was ready to go back to sleep.

Hi Judy, Carolyn and Diane Sue.

Happy New Year. This morning I did JS Pyramid Power Walk, 30 minutes, 201 calories, 128 average heart rate, and 171 maximum heart rate. Youngest daughter left an hour ago. The house will feel very empty and too quiet for a couple of days as we readjust to the normal.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Cardio Aerobics and Mobility Flow.

Cathy, nice job with Functional Barre Fusion.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Shannon.

We did a park walk early this morning, the "further away" park along the water thats quite steep. we saw a ton of porpoises this morning. you can never see the whole thing, just arch of their back as they come up and go down. tons of eagles around now. took 2 1/4 hours. we were done by 10, when most people were just arriving.

it got pretty loud last night but we go to bed early enough to be asleep before it gets going seriously. earplugs help. completely beyond my understanding why people like to make big kabooms as they blow up hundreds of dollars worth of bombs.

I found out our previous cat, who was very small and shy used to go through the cat door at the next door neighbors and eat kibble. her cats come and go at will but are smart enough to avoid coyotes. we see other cats sometimes but no strays around. our first cat was a stray in our yard after 4th of july but no strays at this house.

Yesterday was a rest day. Today I did 45 minutes of walking and my PT work.

Carolyn-Great job with Rev’d Up Rumble, LMR Functional Lower Body and JS Pyramid Power Walk. I bet your house will feel empty for a while. We don’t have children but I can understand the feeling.

Shannon-Great job with your LMR Functional Upper and Functional Lower mix and Bodystrike 3. For Yoga, Cathe’s Yoga Max and Yoga Relax are old favorites of mine. Also, Peloton has a couple of instructors that I really like. Travis Eliot is very good too.

Valerie-That’s crazy what they found under your old tub. I’m glad you got your new one installed.

Cathy-Great job with Lite Body Weight and Bands and Functional Barre Fusion. I’m glad that Nick had a good flight home.

Diane Sue- Great job with CDorner Cardio Aerobics old school and CDorner mobility flow.

This morning I did ICE Chiseled Upper Body. My time was 45 minutes with 137 calories burned, average heart rate 104, and maximum heart rate 142.

Valerie nice job with the park walk and seeing the porpoises and eagles.

Judy, nice job with your rest day, walking, and PT work.

Hello to Cathy, Diane Sue, and Shannon.

Hi, ladies. I was going to post yesterday but realized that I needed to cook dinner. I always cook enough for several meals so I don’t have to cook every night. Well, yesterday I got busy out in the yard and forgot that I was out of food, LOL. So that took up extra time in the evening. Anyhow, yesterday I lifted weights on my own and did STS 2 standing metabolic core. Today I took a 7 mile walk. I need to do some stretching later.

Valerie – We used to have coyotes … we still do, but they are disappearing fast as more people move in. I used to love to hear them howl at night. It’s sad how so much wildlife has left our area over the years. A cougar once ran right across my yard, chasing a young deer. It was incredible. I call it my “National Geographic moment.” But he’s long gone – way too many people now and not enough wild area to support a cougar’s range. Oh, have you ever tried Rao’s tomato pesto? It’s very good. I am totally with you about fireworks. Our neighbors woke me up at midnight, but fortunately they didn’t shoot off too many. Ugh.

Diane – I hope you and your grandson have a good time tonight. How is your dog? Yes, you remember BodyStrikes correctly. I guess I’d say that Ilaria is a master of unilateral training, LOL. I do have the LMR dvds and saw those premixes. I figured that since I was going straight to the upper body after doing lower body, I didn’t need the cooldown, so it was just as easy to use the original workout and stop when I was ready to stop. A cat fight under the bed? Whew, I’ll bet that was something!!

Cathy – I wasn’t sure about Functional Barre Fusion either, but then I’ve never been a huge fan of barre. I’m glad Nick’s drive was okay. Your story about stray cats sounds like my parents’ story with stray dogs. Most of our dogs as I was growing up were strays.

Carolyn – good job with the JS Pyramid Power Walk and ICE Chiseled Upper Body. Okay, who is JS, please?

Judy – Good work with the walking. I hope your weather allows you some more outdoor walks. Next week we are going into the deep freeze, so I need to get in a few more before that hits. Funny, I used to not like Cathe’s Yoga Max and Relax workouts. I thought they were just so-so, back when I was more into traditional yoga. But now I like them a lot better than I used to.

We did a local park walk this morning for 1 hr 10 and then did groceries on the way home. it's really convenient and hits stores when they're not busy too. people here talk about stray cats and lost dogs all the time on Next Door, but I dont see any. I picked up two dogs once who were standing in the road looking confused. they jumped right in my car. both had collars with a phone number that was someone right down the street. I stowed them in the garage so they wouldn't get run over. they did not seem street smart. the neighbor came and got them shortly.

its supposed to be rainy the next few mornings so we did the walk while it was still dry. we are getting countertop installed tomorrow but dont have a time yet. its been 40 ish lately. fine for walking and even for riding.

I have never liked Barre. I dont usually like yoga on disk either. even when I was doing it every week, I never found anything "right". too easy or too hard, too fast or too slow. annoying instructor etc. the move where you lean over and twist lower back with one arm up and one down is an example of what would not be good for me, and Cathe seems to like it and sticks it into a lot of workouts. might be Tripod pose? I'm sure it's in Ice chiseled upper body. i dont need to test how far the metal in my back will flex!

we are not anywhere near as rural as we used to be, but we have the tree farm acreage and other green belt areas around so we have decent wildlife. most lots are 5 acres so lots of green space. coyotes are getting urbanized and can thrive even in cities. all those pets are a good food supply, along with the trash and pet food people leave sitting out. We never feed our pets outside. dont want to feed the local raccoons, coyotes, or possums. the guy next to us raises different things, sheep , pigs, turkeys, chickens. not the same every year plus the large deer population. we think their feed leaves lots of extra for coyotes, bobcats, cougars to lunch on, plus cats and little dogs.
I personally( my opinion only) think natural selection is working toward coyotes who are less vocal. the ones here are very quiet, hardly ever hear any yipping or howling. even in MT we seldom hear them except in the park. most farmers here shoot on sight so being quiet has benefit. if they're silent they are unnoticed and those are the ones who survive to breed and maybe that trait is passed on.

No workout today. We had our grandson over and I just enjoyed the time and rest. Yesterday morning I did Lift Move Restore Double Cardio bonus, 27 minutes(it had no warm up on the mix) heart rate 137/162 2,072 steps, 147 calories. I finished with LMR functional mobility timesaver #3 combos warm up & mobility combos, 30 minutes, 55 calories, 216 steps. Total time 57 minutes, 202 calories, 2,288 steps.

Good morning, ladies. I got up at 3:37. Woot. Just one of those mornings. I know some of you know exactly what I'm talking about. So I did a little work in preparation for Monday when I officially go back to work - I had something on my mind that I will discuss with my supervisor next week and wanted to get stuff ready. I guess that's what woke me up, huh? Anyhow, since I'm online, I figured I'd post early. My plan is to do LMR Total Body and some core work, but not sure what core yet. And more stretching. I definitely need that.

Carolyn - thanks. Jessica's stuff seems like something I might possibly want to try but maybe not quite, LOL. Do you use her DVDs or does she have YouTube? What do you think of her workouts?

Valerie - yes, hitting the stores when they're empty is truly wonderful. I hope the countertop installation goes well. I need to call a plumber and have him install two new faucets. I like your idea about natural selection. Maybe our coyotes are going silent - that makes me feel much better, hoping they're still around. We have plenty of space for them to the west, and here and there. And yeah, if they can live in urban areas, they sure can manage out here.

Diane - I'm glad you had a good day with your grandson.

Hi to Judy and Cathy.

No workout yesterday as I shopped, but Nick and I did yoga last night. Not really my kind of yoga, but he's enjoying it and I'm okay with it. So far, we've had to do it at night, which is probably not aiding me, though I've always thought yoga before bed would be a good thing, so maybe this will be enough time to get me into the habit. This morning I did Gloved Up and Ready, and Live Bands & Loops: Metabolic. It's a VERY thorough workout, and I'd definitely say not for anyone with shoulder issues as they get used a lot. Taking Nick to get a new phone and his glasses adjusted this afternoon.

Valerie that would be very cool to see porpoises and that many eagles. I see eagles fairly often when I drive up north, and sometimes around here, but almost always just one, and on rare occasions two. Coyotes are enemy number one out here, according to a seeming majority of the people. We used to hear them quite a bit, but now there's a guy who will jump in his truck and come track down coyotes on people's property and it doesn't matter if they caused a problem or not. Ugh

Diane Sue I'm glad you got to spend time with your grandson.

Shannon thankfully dogs seem more inclined to stay home, and to be tagged. I've had 3 times when I've had to aid dogs getting back home. One I only had them for a few hours, another was a small 15 year old, that I found down the road, and kept overnight. Called Animal Control the next day and they gave me the owners number. He had been outside with her husband, and just vanished, and was on medication. He'd come from a mile away, and been gone for several weeks, and they'd given up. When I called her, she was hesitant to believe me and didn't tell her husband she was coming to pick him up because she wanted to be sure. Best reunion ever. Then there was the basset hound, the biggest PITA, stubborn dog you ever met. He would run away from home (escape), about a mile away, and show up in our yard. First time I took him to animal control and the owner found him there, paid the fine and took him back, but I got her number. He kept showing up and would play outside with our dog until he could be picked up. This went on regularly for a year at which point her parents (she was early 20's) had had it, and we may the incredibly stupid decision to keep him. We actually had him for a year or so, but we had to keep the cats at the time away from him, and then he almost got hold of one, and would have killed it and since he'd already worn out his welcome, he went to the humane society. I gave them a ton of behavior information so they could pair him with the right person, and he was adopted in 3 days. Purebred Basset Hound.

Carolyn I'm sure your house will feel strange for a bit.

Hi Judy.

we have eagles all over the place but especially in winter. mostly they scavenge dead fish from river banks. not always "majestic" behavior.
Shannon I have never seen Rao's tomato pesto. there are so many sauces on the shelf now! I usually get it at costco. they had another Rao's variety. I used to make my own from home grown tomatoes but no need now. it was good but jarred sauce is just as good. adding a little pesto to rao's marinara was great but I will watch for that. countertop is in and done and looks great. we got granite and a square undermount sink. the tub looks great too so this will be a big improvement.

cathy Ive read that about basset hounds, that they are stubborn and very hard to train. I would not keep any dog that would attack a cat or another dog. not OK behavior, ever. I like dogs a lot but wow, some are not acceptable. I have great discomfort with anything with pit bull in it. I know many are sweet and loving, but no way. those little squinty eyes and big jaws, ugh. so that's my dislike of the day!

This morning I did JS One Mile of Motivation + LMR Low Impact Cardio add-on. That was 32 minutes, 228 calories burned, average heart rate 134, and maximum heart rate 158. I did my own cool down after the LMR cardio. Then I did LMR Lower Body Foam Rolling for 18 minutes and 82 calories burned.

Shannon, I’m sorry that you woke up so early! Having something on your mind probably was a big part of it. Nice job lifting weights and STS 2 Standing Metabolic Core. I like Jessica Smith’s cardio workouts quite a bit. I rarely do her strength workouts, but that’s because I prefer Cathe for that. I have many of her DVDs, but I have done a few of her free workouts on YouTube. She had 15 minute walk and talk workouts that I would do when I wanted a few minutes of something. It’s been a while so I’m not sure about her free workouts now.

Valerie, nice job with the local park walk. I use Raos Marinara sauce for a similar pasta dish to yours. More like baked ziti instead of stuffed shells. I agree Raos is very good and relatively healthy. I don’t bother making marinara sauce from scratch anymore.

Diane Sue, I’m glad that you are getting to spend time with your grandson. Great job with LMR double cardio bonus and Functional Mobility timesaver.

Cathy, great job with Gloved Up and Ready and Live Bands and Loops: Metabolic. It’s good that you are doing yoga with Nick.

Waving hello to Judy.

Yesterday I did a 45-minute Peloton Walk, 20 minutes of strength work and 30 minutes of PT & stretching. I plan on doing another Peloton Walk later today.

Carolyn-Great job with ICE Chiseled Upper Body, JS One Mile of Motivation + LMR Low Impact Cardio add-on and LMR Lower Body Foam Rolling. I need to get back to doing some ICE workouts, that is such a great series.

Shannon-Great job with your walk, weight lifting and STS 2 standing metabolic core. I'm sorry you woke up so early, that's rough. I also like Jessica Smith's workouts. I was doing a lot of her workouts, along with Cathe's, before I got into Peloton. I agree with Carolyn, I prefer Cathe's strength work to Jessica's. Jessica's walking and cardio workouts are very good.

Diane Sue-I’m glad you had time with your grandson. Great job with LMR Double Cardio bonus, and functional mobility timesaver #3.

Cathy-Great job with Gloved Up and Ready and Live Bands & Loops. I had a friend who had a basset hound and I remember how difficult he could be.

Valerie-We like dogs but we would never want an animal that could harm our cats. I know many dogs are fine with cats but it’s not something I’d want to try out. We couldn’t have another animal anyway since our condo only allows 2 pets per unit.

Hi again. Workout is done. I’d forgotten how much core work is in LMR Total Body, so instead of additional core, I did the lower body balancing disc bonus. I did pretty well for just the second time, but I have plenty of room for improvement, LOL. I’m stuck in the house, waiting for the plumber and am bored out of my mind. I want to go outside! It’s so pretty right now.

Cathy – I find that slow, gentle stretching is good before bed, but not necessarily a traditional yoga routine. Just my preference. Sounds like you had quite a workout this morning. Good job! Your story about the Bassett hound is quite a tale. I’m sorry you had to give him to the humane society, but yeah, he sounds like quite a mess. I’m so glad he was adopted. My dog, Sara, is a stray. My previous dog, Sunny, died in February 2023. I made it very clear to the Powers That Be that I didn’t want another dog. Sunny was the best dog EVER, and I just wanted time alone. Well, lo and behold, Sara showed up at my brother’s house three days before I had to put Sunny to sleep. I’m like, nope, bro, she’s all yours. Ahem. So much for that. She is currently asleep on a folded up blanket in my window sill (she’s a 12 lb. Chihuahua mix, so our cats weigh more than she does). She’s a sweet little girl, but extremely high maintenance.

Valerie – Very cool that you have so many eagles. We don’t have any. Lots of buzzards though, LOL. Nasty birds, but man, I love to watch them soar on the wind currents. They are masters of flight. So glad all your renovations are going well. You will enjoy them! Yes, keep an eye out for the tomato pesto. It also makes a great sandwich spread if you’re in the mood for a gourmet grilled cheese.

Carolyn – I went to bed fairly early, so I still got enough sleep. No biggie. It’s just a shame that it happened while I’m on vacay and could have slept in. I’ll have to check out Jessica’s DVDs. If I remember correctly, they come as a huge set, like she has a few different programs – is it Walk Strong? It looks like you got a thorough and effective workout today.

Judy – Goodness, you covered it all on your workout yesterday. Way to go! Thank you also for your input about Jessica Smith.

Diane – Hello again. I hope you are having a good day.

I did Functional upper body after a warm up on the spin bike. its not hard and kind of fun. nothing very twisty in there so nothing I have to worrry about. I went pretty light just to check it out. I like band work, and there is a lot of it. I was thinking about printing the workout so I could track weight amounts but I dont remember how to do it. Can anyone tell me? I did it once before but dont remember how I did it.

Today I did CDorner High Energy Power Step non stop with no breakdown and no choreography. 28 minutes, 162 calories, heart rate 138/164, 2,612 steps. I followed with Ice Muscle Meltdown Biceps, 15 minutes, 67 calories, and finished with LMR Upper foam roller, 11 minutes (I skipped the mini workout of jack knife, triceps push ups, and dips with the roller. Total time was 54 minutes, 248 calories. It is later and I need to go to bed. I don't know if I can adjust to the changes in my schedule lately. Husband has 3 days he works 12 hour shifts all night, and those days I am rushing in the morning to do my usual routine, workout and shower, then rush to get dinner ready before he leaves in late afternoon. I try to go to bed earlier so I have more time when I wake up. Then the other days are just off for me because they were my cleaning days and I try to cram it all in on the 3 day weekend work. I will get used to it eventually.

Valerie-Did you download the user guide? You can print the workouts and workout cards from there. You probably want the workout cards so you can track weight. For Functional Upper Body they are pages 70-72.
