Pentagenarians & Beyond: 12/22/2024

This morning I did yoga/mobility for 20 minutes. Our weather is cold too. It’s sunny and beautiful, but once you step outside it’s cold for us at 33 degrees.

Judy, great job with your 45 minutes Peloton walk, 10 minutes of core, and 30 minutes of PT work.

Diane Sue, great job with LMR Functional Total Body, Anytime Mobility, Bavk pod and PT moves.

Cathy, great job with Core Fusion and Yoga floor premix. I’m sorry about the poor sleep.

Hello to Valerie and Shannon.

we mt biked this morning. our usual place. conditions were not good. its a commercial forest so unfortunately they are logging now right right where we need to start riding. they dont work weekends though. it makes the gravel road a mess and softens the surface. its MUCH harder to ride uphill. tires dig in more . last week it was as hard as asphalt and today it was like riding thru oatmeal. after the first half mile I was ready to quit but it got a little better as we kept going. a lot of debris from recent winds. whatever. we did an hour and a half before the rain got started. it was 40-ish temp so ok for riding.

I've done very little with the new workouts. I watched a little but didn't do much. I will try to look at core fusion today because I didn't do core today. how much I will have to modify, I don't know. my surgeon had told me to keep my back straight so i hold the thought when deciding what is okay to do. I have good mobility but I don't want to push the envelope too much and cause problems. I do a lot of forward bend things and childs pose because it stretches out my back and feels wonderful. yoga and core moves usually use twisting and bending moves. I dont want to do too much.

cathy good work doing anything after a bad night sleep.

Today I did a 60 minute Peloton Full Body Strength workout and a 20 minute walk. Tomorrow will probably be an active rest day.

Cathy-Great job with Core Fusion and the Yoga Floor premix. I'm sorry about the sleep.

Great job with your yoga/mobility work.

Valerie-Great job with your mountain bike ride.

Diane Sue-Great job with LMR Functional Total Body, Anytime Mobility, Back Pod and PT work.

Hi to Shannon

STS Disk 36 the last Shoulder, Biceps and Triceps workout. I'm hoping to go to my parents tomorrow so I can get an in person update from my Dad, but it's weather dependent.

Valerie the Core Fusion uses the stability ball, so there are at least a couple exercises you'd have to substitute because they would involve not keeping the spine straight. That sounds like a ride that would give you an extra good workout navigating all that.

Judy great job with the Peloton workout and walk.

Hi all. I locked myself out of the forums yesterday, LOL. I’ve been working my butt off raking leaves. Five hours Saturday and Sunday, and two and a half this morning. I think I’m done. My back tells me I need to be done! I’m taking a rest day for the rest of this day. I wonder how many squats and deadlifts I’ve done? And how many steps I got in? I’m on my phone now but will try to log on to my computer later for personals. I hope everyone has a great day!

Did another park walk this morning for an 1 hr 15. we did it in reverse this morning, and it felt longer but it took the same amount of time. makes sense of course because its hilly but is a circle. its the same loss and gain either way. surprisingly busy in the campground. so warm the frogs were croaking.

cathy he said "keep your back straight" but forward bends are so pleasant I do them and have since early on. I still get backaches and those are what help the most. I even do gentle cat /cow going slowly so I think Ill know if its not feeling OK. faster things involving cardio with bending and twisting seem riskier to me so I dont do them. I do bicycle maneuvers lying down. Ive always been very flexible and that hasnt changed .

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout two. That was 29 minutes, 214 calories burned, 135 average heart rate, and 167 maximum heart rate.

Did anyone see Cathe’s post about her knée replacement surgery? She posted last week to let people know in the Open Discussion forum but I totally missed it. I saw an update today that she posted on Facebook and I was very confused. Her surgery was December 13 and she seems to be doing well.

Valerie, nice job with mountain biking and the park walk.

Cathy, great job with STS disc 36 Shoulders, Biceps, and Triceps. I hope that you are able to visit your parents.

Judy, nice job with the 60 minute Peloton Full Body Strength and 20 minute walk.

Hello to Diane Sue and Shannon.

Today was a rest day. I did my PT work along with the LMR Restorative Yoga bonus. For some reason my leg was bothering me more today. I might have over done the strength work yesterday.

Cathy-Great job with STS Disc 36, Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps. I hope you are able to get to your parents tomorrow.

Valerie-Great job with the park walk.

Carolyn-Great job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout two. I did see Cathe's FB post about her knee replacement but I didn't see the post in the Open Discussion Forum.

Hi to Diane Sue & Shannon

This morning I did LMR Pilates Fusion, 35 minutes, 195 calories burned, average heart rate 124 and maximum heart rate 157.

Valerie, you are making adjustments to your activities as your body demands. That’s exactly what you should be doing. Cathe was very forthcoming in her Facebook video about her surgery and what is happening afterwards.

Judy, great job with your PT and LMR Restorative Yoga bonus.

Hello to Cathy, Diane Sue, and Shannon.

Carolyn I know people who are absolutely delighted with their knee surgery and also a few who are deeply disappointed. My SIL has had both knees replaced and a recent hip with significant issues. the most current are happy. still not anything I will do without serious consideration I'm quite functional. no, cant do squats and lunges well anymore, but I can hike and ride a bike. I'm also rapidly approaching 77. my issue is the kneecap not the main joint surface. my understanding is a TKR because technology is so common and much better. knee cap surgery ends up needing a TKR at some time anyway. Cathy's post makes me a little less apprehensive. my neighbor is having a TKR in Feb with the surgeon I will likely use too. my BIL just had one a week ago. Our MT neighbor had one last summer. I meet the surgeon in early january and probably will schedule then because my knee will not get better by itself. is TKR the new cataract procedure? so simple and "everyday" that its considered no big deal? my SIL for example is totally deconditioned to begin with and resisted doing PT. not sure what she finally did. people who stay functional do much better.

I had to talk to my sister yesterday to order some things and had to listen to her long whine about how she had to shovel some snow, a tiny bit around her garbage cans and how she got so sore she could barely get out of bed. the rest got done by neighbors. does she do any exercise, EVER? no of course not. will she figure out she needs to do something( anything) to remain functional, no she wont even listen. its a short conversation.
did all therapy yesterday after the morning walk. I always do countertop pushups, and curls along with the other moves. today will do a warm up on bike or elliptical and then an upper body workout. maybe one of the new ones. we might be getting wind again today and a power out is possible.

Merry christmas to everyone. Hoping you have a pleasant holiday.

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! And Merry Christmas too, since I doubt anyone will be around tomorrow. I hope you all have a lovely evening, and a wonderful day tomorrow. And I hope Santa brings you some good stuff, LOL.

I just finished my all low impact HiiT cardio version of HiiT Circuit Lower Body from Ripped with HiiT. Cardio with lower body is easy for me to convert into all cardio. I like the energy of that workout, and the music is good. After I finish here, I think I’ll do some stretching.

It’s been raining all day and is supposed to rain all week. I knew it was coming, which is why I busted my tail Saturday and Sunday to get the raking done.

WOW about Cathe’s knee replacement! I’m not on Facebook, but I got lucky and saw her video the day she posted it. All I can see is the most current post since I’m not a member. It sounded like she was doing well, and I hope she continues to make a complete recovery.

Cathy – Wow, your weather is all over the place. But come to think of it, it looks like we’re going to see quite a warmup too. It’s supposed to be 67 on Friday. Ugh. I want winter. I hope you get more sleep than the other night. Did you get an update from your dad? I hope all is well.

Carolyn - A cold sunny day is truly a beautiful thing. Sounds like your weather is perfect.

Valerie – Ugh, I’m sorry they’re logging where you like to ride. I know that’s a mess! The people who own the land next to us (600+ acres) put part of it in pine trees many years ago. The loggers cut them all down a few years ago, and the land is totally useless now. All overgrown, with pine stumps everywhere. I hope the loggers in your area are more sustainable. So, you don’t think you’ll ever be able to do twists or anything again? That would be hard. But I sure am glad you can still ride!

Judy – I hope your leg is okay. Did the yoga help?

Hello to Diane!

Today I did RWH LIH #2 and P30 stretch. Went to my parents. Did I tell you my Mom walked out of her PT and cancelled her appointments. I really don't know what these people were thinking. At this point, she's shrunk to maybe 4'5" and shuffles around with her walker and has issues just getting in and out of a chair and they wanted to put her on a bike! Then they laid her on her back with a stability ball under her knees and just left her. My Dad said she didn't even come close to having the ball in a good place and it would have been compromising her back which she still gets spasms in. I have the smaller of the stability balls and it's almost too big for me to use to put my lower leg on top, knee bent. So, far no one her doctor has wanted her to talk to has been any help at all. So frustrating.

Carolyn I had missed the video Cathe did about her surgery, but watched it earlier. She was hiding it really well, especially considering her comment in the thread that she'd been working around it for a few years. Years during which she did STS 2, the 2023 videos and now the new series. You can't tell at all. But then, before her shoulder surgery there was no indication of that either. I wonder if they pre taped a bunch of lives, because the one on the 19th was her, Jenn and Kristin.

Judy did you have some of that nasty weather yesterday. We didn't get it bad at all, but my BIL, late 60's, down in the Detroit suburbs, fell on icy steps leaving their building and hurt his back. Saw lots of travel warnings from people who had to drive that covered most of the state.

Valerie I'm sorry your sister continues to be so frustrating. I look at all the health issues my family has and I just don't get why over the years they weren't willing to have healthier habits, but none of them were going to listen to me, so I saved my energy.

Shannon did you get back in the forums? I still haven't redone my OnDemand and Live sign in yet. I need to do it soon, but I know I'm going to have to pick ANOTHER password and then I'll have to sign on my Roku TV which is still working. Like seriously why does that work, but the saved password won't work on anything else.

Is anyone having a white Christmas? While there is still some patchy snow here, we have a lot of grass showing and the rest will melt tomorrow.

Hi Diane Sue.

Today I did a 30-minute Peloton interval ride, 15 minutes of rowing and a 15 minute walk. My leg felt better today.

Carolyn-Nice job with LMR Pilates Fusion. I think it was really good of Cathe to post her video and to share her progress.

Shannon-Nice job with your version of HiiT Circuit Lower Body. Thank you, the yoga did help.

Cathy-Nice job with RWH LIH #2 and P30 stretch. I’m sorry about your Mom. That sounds very frustrating. It sounds like the PTs didn’t have a clue how to help her. We did have the freezing rain and ice yesterday. We didn’t go out at all, we waited until this morning to get a few last minute things. I’m sorry that your BIL fell.

Hi to Valerie & Diane Sue

Merry Christmas Everyone

Yesterday I did did Lift Move & Restore premix mish mosh fabric loop (from lower body) & balance disc bonus then went back and did some of the dumbbell work from the leg workout finishing with the stretch. 53 minutes, 126 calories, heart rate 93/151. I also did 33 minutes,72 calories, heart rate 85/126. Total time was 85.126. Total time was 86 minutes, 198 calories.
Today I did CDorner Fast Basic Step #440, 41 minutes (this was over an hour, but I got tired of it stopping for youtube ads), 222 calories, heart rate 135/159, 3,765 steps. I also did LMR Functional Core Bonus level 2, 22 minutes, with the warmup premix 92 calories, heart rate 115/141. Finished with LMR Anytime Mobility 17 minutes, 25 calories. This one spends a lot of times on the hands. Total time 80 minutes, 339 calories.

I do not know how Cathe keeps going with these surgeries. I remember her saying ahead of time that she had filmed workouts for the live workouts before surgery. I saw clips after surgery where she was back up and on the set sort of coaching on live workouts. She was back out there pretty quickly. I do not know how she did it to be honest. My brother is still having problems with his knee replacement, and they are talking about a do over. My shoulder hurt so bad for quit a while before I could do much with it. PT was painful. Maybe mine was worse because they had to file down a bone spur and reattach the bicep tendon. I hope healing goes well for her.

Merry Christmas! have a wonderful day

Shannon we ride in a commercial tree farm covering a massive area. they grow douglas firs. they cut sections, then replant so there are huge areas of solid forests and also open clear cut areas. to cut the trees they make roads that are temporary or permanent. the company has always been open to non motorized recreation on their land. horses, mt bikes, and walkers. they let horse groups mt bike groups make trails and then use them with some restrictions. its very close to where we live and fine for the non technical riding we do. its up to the groups to maintain trails, but we need roads to get to the trails and they can get messy when there is active logging going on. we pay a small fee to release them from legal responsibility.

cathy my family is pathetic. every one is(was) fat and inactive. nope, they wont listen. waste of breath. my sister is no exception. sounds especially ridiculous because she wants to stay in a house but cant take care of it and then wheedles other people into doing things for her because she is so lazy. and complains when she cant get someone to do what she should do herself.

some people are so pleased with their new knees its easy to not worry about it. its still a big surgery. My SIL is very overweight and inactive and then didnt do PT afterward. she kept saying they were just after her money!. her second knee went better but the first one is not good. then her hip replacement went poorly. she needed some other procedure to fix that. I try to think that people in good shape increase their odds of things going well. no guarantee though. important to get a good surgeon with experience and then do the PT.
