Penagenarians & Beyond: W/B 9/20

This morning I did Step Sync, combos 1 and 2, for 33 minutes and 265 calories burned. My average heart rate was 139 and maximum heart rate was 169.

Waving hello to everyone. Have a wonderful day.

there are moose here, we've seen them many times. just didn't see any this year yet. we've seen them VERY close. sometimes they just stand there like a statue while you walk past. unnerving when you realize you were unintentionally too close. easier to see after leaves drop. they are darker color than you realize. no... not good together.... vehicle plus a moose, deer or elk. even a deer can do incredible damage. I dont like to drive here at dawn or dusk. whoever drives, the passenger is on wildlife lookout. 2 sets of eyes better than one set.
we have a lot of elk, deer moose, pronghorns, bison, mountain goats, big horn sheep, black and grizzly bears cougars, bobcats, wolves. its easier to see things the rest of the year. late summer is the least likely time IMO. animals are still up high and rut hasn't started yet. mountain lions are quiet and not easy to spot. we have lots in WA, and watch for them when mt biking. people resemble deer when riding fast and cats love to chase things. a guy was killed and a friend wounded last yr (or yr before), riding in western WA. the tree farm where we ride has cougars, saw them on trail cams. we carry bear spray there too and stay alert. .

think we are taking the day off today. several hours every day has us both tired out so we did some outdoor fence work this morning. we have several lines of snow fencing and the wind is hard on it. very windy here almost all the time.

I never heard of that breed. cute little guy! everything into the mouth... I think Deb will testify to that with her dogs.
ETA did stacked upper body, 50 knee push ups, and the ab workout.

Today I started with Cathe Live #284 arms and abs stopping after biceps because she was going to shoulders:(
Raw Your Moves 46 minutes, 163 calories, heart rate 111/154, using 8,10,15 # dumbbells, 2,262 steps. I then did Raw stretch and tone first 20 minutes, 26 calories. I have to guess on calories for the live workout after I figure out how much time that I spent doing it. My watch did not start when I pushed the button I guess.
Yesterday I did Cathe Live Get Steppin #90 where where Cathe flubs quite a bit and we start over part of it. along with Body Design yoga with Kelly Coffey. I have been really busy. Will try to post and read posts today.

Hi Everyone,

Tuesday I did Rockout Knockout and 2 of the LiTe Calorie Crushes. Yesterday I did Rock'm Sock'm and Yin Yoga.

Lori-Peloton just added Barre workouts this week. They also have some resistance band workouts. I plan on checking these out.

Carolyn-Great job with XTrain and Step Sync. I need to get back into Step Boss. Step is challenging for me and I'm still at the Basic Step level. I need to revisit the step tutorials that Cathe put on YouTube.

Cathy-Nice job with Live All on the Floor Core. That is a good one. Nice walking too. What an adorable puppy!

Valerie-You deserve a rest day! You are doing awesome with the biking and hiking. I'd never heard of that dog breed either.

Diane Sue-I'm sorry about your shoulders :( Nice workouts this week.

Hi to Deb!

We did fence work ( not hard just tedious) so I still did stacked upper body before dinner. my biggest weight here is 10 lbs so workout is not hard. getting some heavier weights for here is the plan even if I have to pay a ridiculous amount for them. I thought this would pass just like the TP shortages but I guess not. I did a premix that switched the order and that made it a little different.
off to hike with our neighbor this morning tho weather is iffy. really windy.

This morning I did X Train Bis and Tris, a timesaver, for 36 minutes and 169 calories burned. My average heart rate was 117 and maximum heart rate was 156. I made a quick trip to Kroger’s in the rain to pick up a few items. I was trying to get ahead of the rain, but it started just as I left the house. It’s going to continue for a while as the last of the tropical storm passes through.

Diane Sue, I hope things are starting to slow down for you. Great job with your workouts.

Valerie, you deserve a day off with all of the strenuous activities that you are doing. It appears that the shortage of weights will continue as more people are working out at home. Many national gyms have closed for good due to the sudden economic downturn. My New York daughter was crushed to learn that both her gym and Flywheel where she cycles have declared bankruptcy.

Judy, great job with Rockout Knockout, LiTE Calorie Crush, Rock’m Sock’m, and Yin Yoga. Peloton is really branching out in the home fitness area. I also read that Amazon is launching a bike similar to the Peloton.

Hello to Cathy, Lori, and Deb.

Today I did Some of my Walk Strong 3 workouts with Jessica Smith, Cardio Step Jam 34 minutes, heart rate 117/153, 156 calories, 3,403 steps and uses two risers. Jessica uses a high step for her step. She says 0-3 risers. I then did Boogie IT which is cardio intervals, 30 minutes, heart rate 123/152, 146 calories, 2,946 steps. I finished with the 15 minute fix total body stretch, 18 minutes, 18 calories, 22 steps. Total time was 82 minutes, 323 calories, 6,349 steps. I found some of my notes on these workouts and the sheets I have upper and lower on. I did not find total body though. I know I did it.
We got school work done earlier as the teacher is testing. One zoom class only, so mostly working on our own. I am getting less sleep every day this week. So tired today.

Lori, that is great that the headlamp is making the walks better. I was able to try all of the Walk Strong 3 workouts a while back. A fitness friend loaned me her streaming for it for a couple of weeks. I went through all of the workouts. There is a nice variety of workouts their.

Carolyn, I always try to get out before rain just in case we get flooding or something. I am trying to decide whether to get Whole Foods Delivery or just go out this weekend for all of it. It sure kills my time for cleaning and myself on the weekends. Nice work on X Train.

Valerie, good luck with finding the heavier weights. A lot of the ones we have we picked up at Walmart Supercenter. Are there any sporting goods stores around there? I hope you have a good hike with your neighbor. My husband showed me a picture of a huge deer with a very large rack on it's head. Since it was a night shot the eyes glowed. He sees a lot of wildlife when he is out working since he works all night and it is still dark when he leaves home. The place he works is on an outer edge of the city.

Judy, nice work with Rock Out Knock Out. Those calorie crushes are nice for add ons.

Cathy, when I first saw the cute pup I thought maybe it was the same thing Kelly Coffey got several months ago. It is large now though. It is a bernedoodle. Poor puppy. You really have to watch puppies because they chew on everything. I would not want to be close to a moose.

Deb, I cannot imagine a 6 year old doing their stuff on their own. If there is not a printer the teacher gives suggestions of ways to get the work done. Today she said something to the children about having someone that can read the story problem for math. Today she told one little girl that she was going to mute her now. This little girl chats at the teacher in all of the zoom classes and interrupts. Does it still take Cathe a couple of months to put up the latest workouts on live apps?

Other comments here on home schooling is that children are eating, having drinks, moving away from the camera, and when they take time to wait on a child that keeps saying they are not done yet it is so distracting. Plus like my grandson, he wants it over to go do something else. I am sure classrooms work better. I don't know how others do it, but I print up any worksheets we need the night before if they are available, make a list of assignments and zoom classes, and form a sort of order for getting it all in. I try to give a couple of breaks. The longest being while I get in a workout, barring unexpected changes, and a shower. Then lunch and 1 zoom comes in. I try to get as much work as I can out of my grandson before then. Today he was procrastinating 2 math sheets and a music lesson to get finished. I discovered something I may have missed on our new reading lessons so have to go back and see if I need to get more work done and submitted.

we did a hike today, 5 hrs 10 min. uphill .... steep... at a high elevation to begin with. its an old "road" sort of, but really nice. most would not classify this as a road! even the approach road was pretty rugh, one we usually ride our mt bikes up and down. hiked about 6 miles RT. we will do again, maybe our next trip here. . just gorgeous and nobody around. our neighbor was up here about 2 weeks ago and ran into a bear with cubs so she cut it short that day. probably got up to about 9000 feet, and the road went further. old mining claims up there but not active nor will they ever be, but kept the roads open, sort of.
probably our last adventure this trip. need to get some food tomorrow and clean the house as we will head back to WA saturday early. we had a good trip but we have things we need to deal with back in WA as seasons have changed there.

diane sue that is terrific you are able to do so much for your grandchild. I wonder how many people can do what's required right now. he's a lucky kid! I don't envy teachers eventually trying to step back in later with kids who've had a myriad of ways and people teaching them.

so sad so many gyms are closing. I learned long ago I prefer working out at home but I know not everyone likes the same things.

Valerie, that was a nice hike! I am hoping seasons do not change too quickly here. I am not ready for cold weather. It has cooled off. I just replaced my hydrangea that dies. I read early fall before we have a freeze was good. So far it looks good. Just leaves right now. My other one never had to be brought in during the winter because my dryer vents out in my planter and it has shelter on two sides. I had the last one in a pot 7 years. Repotted several times. I did something to it. I kept trying to add stuff to it to change the color back to the more blue and the last time I did it, it just curled up and died.

I would imagine that there are going to be a lot of children behind on their education and behavior may be awful for those teachers when classrooms open back up.

Today was shopping so no workout. While I was putting bags in the car, I twisted left and got a zing all across my lower back. Same thing happened a couple days ago. I stretched a bit and it’s okay, just a bit sore. But so weird. In that instant if feels like my whole body shifts sideways and then nothing. It goes back to being okay. But rather freaky.

Diane Sue great workouts you are getting in. I’m so sorry about your continued sleep issues, those just suck so much. I’m sure a lot of the young kids learning from home are very easily distracted from their live classes. And so many parents are working from home and just can’t keep an eye on them every minute, and I’m sure some parents are really lax about the whole thing. Not a recipe for success Since even the kids trying to do everything right are losing out. And Valerie is right, your grandson is very lucky that you are dedicated to helping him achieve his best.

Valerie that sounds like an awesome hike you did today! I did some googling Michigan’s highest mountain is 1,979 feet above sea level. Yes, we still call them mountains. The one climbed recently is a whole 470’. And the highest peak is our beautiful Porcupine Mountains is 1,958. But, there are so many beautiful hikes and views there. Haven’t been since our honeymoon.

Carolyn that a great workouts in a short amount of time. Step Sync is always fun!

Judy nice job on some fun workouts!

tee hee no I don't call 1979 feet a mountain. that is a hill! its all relative though. we live in WA at about 350 feet elevation, and if you climb up and back down 1500 vertical feet, you will know you have "worked ". here in MT we are at about 5500 feet to start with. the challenge is to re-acclimate quickly when we get here because altitude is what makes it so much harder. climbing up 1500 feet from where ever you start is always going to be noticeable. I don't get sore muscles (here) from the climb but I still am out of breath due to the elevation. by the time we are acclimated, its time to go back to WA. you would think you would be superfit dragon-slayer when you go back to sea level but its gone in a a heart beat.
we hope to return in a couple weeks but in WA seasons have changed and we need to harvest our garden and get a landscaping project set up. we need to replace some big retaining walls there, and its too big a project to do ourselves.

I feel for all the parents out there, trying to work their jobs and also teach their kids. and get groceries and clean the house etc etc. its like a whole new level of time committments where every day is 48 hours long. . I feel bad for the kids. I loved school! it was an escape from unpleasant home life. kids need to learn how to behave in a classroom and get along in a group, and kids are missing a big chunk of time for that right now.

This morning I did LIVE Get Steppin. She does a couple moves in it that she's not done in the videos. I can do the opposite of the right/left cuing, but it took me a couple minutes to realize that if she said turn in, I had to turn out. The downside to the workout is the music which 1) I didn't care for and 2) the music beats often did not match the steps. So, I pretty much had to ignore it. At a couple points she actually had to stop and do basic steps until the music gave her a beat to work with. Then I did Body Fusion Stability Ball Abs and the lying stretch from Stretch Boss. Going to visit a friend this afternoon. Outside, distance with masks. She's got Parkinson's and has to be super careful.

Valerie this time is especially devastating for kids and women in abusive and neglectful homes. They have no ability to get a reprieve.

The only thing that makes Sugarloaf a decent climb, not including the view from the top, is that it's a pretty vertical climb. Both the path and the stairs. I'm hoping if I go up early on a weekday morning it won't be so busy. Someday I want to get back to the Porkies. At least for day hikes. A different time of summer though as we were there mid-June and the black flies were horrendous. Nasty little buggers.

Have a great day everyone!

This morning I did All Out Low Impact HiiT, no discs, for 34 minutes and 231 calories burned. My average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 159. I had my annual physical this morning, including blood work. I usually get the blood work done beforehand, but didn’t do that this year. That meant that I could not eat anything. I don’t do well with skipping meals! My blood pressure was up slightly, which concerned me until I realized that I hadn’t taken my medication. I take it after breakfast, but since I didn’t have breakfast I forgot about it. I checked my BP this afternoon and it was okay.

Diane Sue, great job with the WS3 workouts. Virtual school is difficult in many different ways. My daughter learned that my 9 year grandson has not been turning on his camera for some classes and hasn’t turned in some of the math assignments. They are now monitoring him more closely, but they are both working from home as well.

Valerie, I’ve said it before, but I am very impressed with your outdoor activities!

Cathy, great job with Live Get Steppin. It’s wonderful that you are visiting your friend this afternoon. My husband has Parkinson’s and we are very careful as well.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Lori.

Cathy black flies are the thing I dread most. it is usually august that is the bad time here. I have tried repellants but none work for me. I usually have to put on a long nylon sleeve shirt and pants, and sometimes a head net. every bite I get lasts for weeks. I have gotten more sensitive to insect bites as I got older, and the bites settle down, then flare up again on and off so each one "keeps on giving".

I did 30 min on big the water rower, fast. I really pushed the pace. I think it’s a decent workout but dh doesn’t like it. WW doesn’t give it many fitness points. But I’m not sure why. Then did abs #1 from ICE . I’m finally getting sit outs although I need to put both hands on the mat so I’m not rotating as much as Cathe.

Today I did Jessica Smith Walk Strong 3 Metabolic Conditioning, 45 minutes(32 actual), 94/129, 100 calories, 1006 steps. I also did Walk Strong 3 Quick Fix Add on abs, 16 minutes, 28 calories, 137 steps. Total time was 61 minutes, 128 calories, 1,143 steps. This workout moves quickly. I liked it the other time that I did it because it has some cardio feel even though you are using weights the entire time. I burned more calories the last time , but did not write the workout out. Plus my fitbit just seems to be giving me less and less calories. Then again my heart rate can get up and two seconds later it drops when I switch moves.
Does anyone that has Walk Strong 3 know if one of the cardios has kickboxing. It seems I remember one having some. Maybe I am thinking of something else. I need to get shopping done tomorrow. I am not sure how I want to do it. Last week I put an order in Whole Foods to be delivered around the time I would be done working out on Saturday, put it away and went to Dollar General for paper products and canned items and cereal for my husband and hit Sprouts for what I did not get from Sprouts. I think it saved me a little time though. I like to try to leave one day free if possible. Doesn't give me much time for cleaning though while my husband is at work.

Cathy, I have pulled things so many times just lifting groceries into the car. Last year when I was doing physical therapy for my neck and shoulder (right side mainly  now left which is the usual) twice I put a huge pack of aquafina water in the back of the car and lifting them from the cart to the car I really hurt myself. It is weird how we workout and everything with care and something like that can happen. I was not wild about Get Steppin either. I think it is Step Grooves that I really liked. The one where Cathe is wearing bright pink :) That is nice that you are able to spend some time with your friend. I have had two calls from one of mine that put herself in a nursing home lately. The only thing is, each time I can hear her making groaning noises and she never responds to me talking to her. Makes me worried. Another thought is someone else is getting on her phone. A couple of months ago I think she called me by accident and she was trying to talk to siri.

Thanks to all of you ladies on your compliments on my helping with school. I just feel for everyone involved in this.

Valerie, I think a lot of children love being in school with their friends and activities planned for them. They sure are not very creative as far as finding things to do when there is media all over the place to use and it is not available. They need something else.

Carolyn, that would make sense not to go for labs ahead. I do that too. I would probably just try for an early appointment. I miss my morning cup of coffee though. I am glad your blood pressure is back to normal. My 6 year old grandson would not do any work if I was not prodding him through it and taking the pictures of his work and submitting it. He knows how to work the laptop now and likes to go through the steps where I have it bookmarked to getting to his assignments and videos for classes. Also the zoom, but we have to use the tablet for that for some reason. The only thing is, he has figured out how to take the teachers youtube lessons and speed them up so it moves faster so he can get done with ito_O I got on this morning and had to put my task bar back because some how he had moved it to the top of the screen and shrunk the screen. He mentioned that he noticed I fixed it this morning. I thought I had it locked. The 12 year old does all of her own assignments and submits everything. So,the only thing I can do for her is make suggestions when she is looking for something or having a problem. She says the program is out dated.

Hi Everyone,

Thursday I worked and didn't get a workout in. Yesterday I did a LiTe Body Weight & Bands premix after work. My low back is starting to bother me again, I'm sure it's mostly from working at HD. They are short staffed right now, more than usual so I'm having to do more work than I anticipated when I went back last month. They increased my hours to 24 this week, so 4 x 6 hour days in a row and it feels more like a full time job than a part time one with that schedule. I might have to decrease my availability again and/or switch to weekends only.

Diane Sue-Cardio Hit! from WS3 is a cardio kickboxing workout. I remember really liking it. I'm going to have to do some WS3 workouts again. That is such a good series. Nice weights on the Metabolic Conditioning workout. It is so great that you are helping with schooling. It's a very sad situation all around. I feel bad for everyone.

Carolyn-Great job with All Out Low Impact HiiT. I usually do the no disc premix too. I have my physical scheduled for Oct. 13. I plan on going in for blood work the first week of October. The lab I go to is close to home so it will be easy to stop in early.

Valerie-I agree with Carolyn-your outdoor activities are very impressive!

Cathy-Nice job with the Live step workout. I hope your low back is ok.

Hi to Deb & Lori!

Good morning. Driving today. Anyone ever used a water rower? I was surprised it didn’t count for many Ww activity points. Seems to work everything but posture gets fatiguing. I like outdoor things much more but too windy and wet yesterday.

Today I did Live Cardio Kickboxing, Hiit and Abs. And doing Hiit after kickboxing is hard. I did it, but dang that was a tough one. 52 minutes long and my heart rate was at peak for 26 minutes. Burned 240 calories.

I love being able to talk Fitness with my son. He’s 5’3”, they both are, and he said that he’s getting to bulky, so he’s switching up what he’s doing. He said he’s losBacking off the weight work a bit, and he’s started swimming a couple days a week. Now if we can just drag his brother along.

Carolyn great job on a fun workout! I always try to go do my bloodwork as soon as they open up in the morning. I do not do well at all when I don’t eat.

Valerie the last time I had a bad encounter with a black fly my head swelled up and I spent the evening with an ice pack on it. I was really happy when I camped up there last summer and never encountered more than a lone mosquito at my campsite. Derek was at a summer camp at the same time and part of his group encountered a swarm along the lake one night, so they were in some places, apparently I just lucked into choosing where they weren’t. Good job pushing it on the rower. That’s something I’ve never tried.

Diane Sue that looks like an excellent workout you got it. I’ve made a note in my future workout list about Step Grooves. I’m sorry to hear your friend is having problems.

Judy great job on Body Weight and Bands, that’s a good one! I hope your back is better. Mines doing pretty well, but I‘m still avoiding burpees which Cathe really likes too much!

Today I did WS3 Barefoot Cardio Core. That was 32 minutes and 183 calories burned. Average heart rate was 120 and maximum heart rate was 135. I like the way that she incorporates the Ab work throughout the workout.

Diane Sue, nice job with WS3 Metabolic Conditioning. I like that one. It’s funny how easily children learn to manipulate technology. I am doing an online CEU conference and I feel a bit like your grandson with some of the sessions. One of the sessions that I watched this morning was very boring. Of course, that happens with in person conferences too.

Judy, great job with Body Weight and Bands after work.

Cathy, great job with Live Cardio Kickboxing with HiiT and Abs. That one sounds hard!

Valerie, safe travels today.

Hello to Deb and Lori.
