Panic!! I can't find my cat!

My Merlin kitty seems to be missing! He's an inside cat, and this time of day he's normally up in the window, looking out the front door, or under the end table in the living room. I can't FIND HIM!!!!!!!!!!

He normally comes when he's called and always comes when I shake the cat snacks or the catnip. No kitty:confused::( He doesn't go outside.

Come to think of it, I don't think I saw him this morning. He normally talks to me while I fix breakfast and coffee. I don't recall talking to him this morning. He's old-ish, he's 12. I'm worried, I can't find him. I looked in all the normal kitty spots.

Check all the closets. My sister lost hers and found her a day later in the top of her closet snuggled up with the sweaters. Hope you find him!!!
 
I have an older cat who hides in one of my closets. If he's that old, it's unlikely he snuck outside. He's probably snoozing
 
Nan, I hope you find him! If you've looked in all the obvious places and all the not so obvious places, have you tried the impossible places? The places you would never think he could get to?

Try that even if you know there's no way he could be there - you never know!

I'll be sending you luck and good energy that you'll find him soon!
 
Been inside, outside, and upside down!! Shaking the catnip, the snacks, running the can opener, he normally shows up and begs at dinner time, too. Can't find him!!!

DH is going to look as well.

Merlin almost always comes when we call him, and he never misses meal time.

My first thought would be that he snuck outside without you seeing (cats can be Houdini-like in that way).
Go outside with the bag/can of treats that you usually shake, call him loudly, with pauses to listen for a response (if he got outside, and he's not used to it, he could be in someone's garage, or in a window well).

Kathryn has a good point. My guy has snuck out a couple of times. He's an indoor cat so he didn't get far (had to investigate every little thing on the way).

When I can't find him, I also literally go through every spot in every room. They can take up a new sleeping spot at any time and some of them are pretty strange choices!

Nothing. :( We're starting to think he got out last night. He likes to go in the sunroom, which connects the kitchen to the garage, but he's not supposed to be out there b/c he can't get back in w/out help.

He's black, and DH thinks when he went to open the garage door last night (it was dark) when I got home from work, he snuck out. We don't turn the sunroom light on at night b/c there's a window between that and DS's room, and he's sleeping. From the sunroom, it would have been no big deal for him to sneak out the door to the garage unnoticed. I really can't recall talking to him at breakfast this morning, and DH doesn't recall petting him while movie watching after I got home.

We think he got out last night and is 24 hours gone. I left a message at the humane society, and will call animal control in the morning, they're gone for the night.

DS is awfully upset and in tears, though. Hate to tell the kid we don't think he's coming back, but I don't want to lie to him and get his hopes up either.

Canvass all the neighbors! Put open cans of super-smelly cat food outside! Call all local shelters and the pound! The faster you cover all these bases, the more likely you are to find your little guy.

Definitely post a picture at the mail box (if its a shared box.) Sometimes people will take in a kitty and keep it not realizing that he has a home. That happened to us. It was the most stressful three days of my life (well ok, not that stressful but darn close.) My Dad went to a house three doors up and said have you seen our kitty? And who saunters out, but Miss Maria The Cat. Like it was nothing.
 
Do you have an unfinished basement? After hours of searching, I found my cat up in the ceiling beams sitting on the air ducts. He had never been up that high, so seemed afraid to get down. My other cat, I accidentally closed in a small bathroom closet, she is black too, and I did not even see her there, I'm sure you have checked all the closets. I hope you find him soon.
 
Let is know when you find your Merlin so we can be at ease. So sorry he's missing. I know how worried you must be.

Hope you find your guy soon. I have found my missing cat shut in the cupboard under the sink. How did he get in there?! I have also found him shut in a drawer. Can you leave the same door ajar and live a trail of his favorite foods leading him back in? My friend did that and sat up all night to wait and yes he did reappear eating slowly as he came back..I am sorry. I know how scary and worrisome this is.

He's back!!!! :) :) :)
I'm at work and I just got a tex from DH. He's back. DS heard him yowling in the yard, there was another cat in our yard and they were yowling at each other.
