P90X Rut Busters - check in here!

Day 4! Day 4!! Day 4!!!

I know a few of us had to get up really early today to fit Yoga X in. How did everyone do?! And what did the new P90X people think of it?

For me, Yoga X is tough. But for the first time, it didn't TOTALLY knock me out (though I still can't do much in it) and I'm kind of eager to get better. I think I'm going to approach this one with the mindset of how awesome I'm going to feel when I can actually DO some of these moves (warrior 3?? that whole sequence?) And then when I can finally do them, make them GOOD.

So - although I am super proud of myself for setting my alarm extra early and doing Yoga X before coming into work early, I have a confession. Last night was a BAD eating night! I ended up going out with a few friends - which led to apps (spinach and artichoke dip with chips) and then dinner OUT later with the hubby - not so good. I don't know why I sabatoge myself, if I'm working out so hard why don't I just EAT BETTER!?!? Ok, I'm working it. And it's not like I eat like I did last night frequently.

FF - I'm glad you are switching to classic. I would definitely recommend that. If you want to lean more then bulk (although the jury's out on some of these theories) you can choose to do the lesser weight/more rep option. And you can also do the doubles if you want. But the classic rotation I think is more challenging and fun.

Sabine - I'm doing a pseudo doubles rotation - on my weight days I also go to the gym at lunch and get in a 45 min cardio - either treadmill or ellipical or something. It's not doing Cardio X, but it's kind of along the same lines.

ALRIGHT! I can't wait to hear what you all thought of the Yoga, or what subs you did!

I did have one issue this morning though - my darn feet kept slipping. Then when I used a mat the mat slipped. Maybe I should glue it down. hahaha

hello, Rut Busters Ladies. this morning i left my workout for when i get home after 6pm. i had to be at work real early.

lets keep the good work.

Hey, gang, I am really, really sore!

Last night I couldn't peel yams very well because my arms were still killing me from Monday. And this morning I could barely make it downstairs.

Today I had cardio planned... I did Cathe's "Step Blast" but lost it during the Challenge. I am so uncoordinated! One day I will beat that Challenge... but not today. Tomorrow is Shoulders/Bi/Tri P90x. I'm saving my yoga day for Saturday.

Ruppie, so you had a one night stand with some appetizers. We forgive you, but don't let it happen again.}(

Glad that I am not the only one :)

Day four ladies and YogaX is under our belt! I liked this workout more than I expected. It was also more difficult than I expected. But it was LONGER than I expected too! I will say this - god did I need that nice, long stretch that this tape gave. I was sweating bullets and working hard for a lot of it, but I also noticed that I feel much more relaxed and stretched out today. My sore body needed that! I had to skip the last 15 minutes b/c even though I got up super early, I thought it was 1 hour and 15 minutes and I didn't leave enough time to do it and get ready in time for Court. So I cheated a little bit but I am not proud x(

Do you guys do your abs before or after the weight workout? I always do mine after but I almost wonder if I should do it afte the warm up when I am super strong. Then again, at that time, I am usually super sleepy still too (takes me until about 15 - 20 minutes to totally wake up, even though I am working hard). Just wondering what you guys think!

T99 - oh no! I feel like that's partially my fault! I think I estimated to you that Yoga was 1:20 long.. I completely forgot myself how long it was!! It's kind of interesting, I find the beginning really tough and my legs are burning and I'm sweating, but by the time I get to the end, it feels like that never happened, it was so long ago!! And I guess since you focus your mind so much on each individual pose (or on NOTHING, I guess, like we're supposed to in yoga?) that I don't linger on the past difficulty I had!

Anyway I'm sorry I underestimated that to you!!! But don't worry, the last 15 minutes literally is the cool down stretch. One is where you lie like a corpse and don't move for a minute. Then the last bit is ohms. So although it would've helped you relax more, I don't think you lost anything out of the workout that should make you feel behind on our program!!

Amazon - thanks for your comment about my one night stand!! :7
This is the first check in I've done, and it's amazing how much a comment like that can encourage me!! And if you guys are not holding it against me it kind of lets me let it go. Why dwell on it! Eating better from now on! :)

Can you tell I have a tough relationship with food? Man I can beat myself up sometimes!!

Who knew Yoga X would be so long!! I sweated through it all, and since I've been doing Brian Kest's Power Yoga for a few months, I was able to do most of the poses, albeit, now well. My husband was on the treadmill watching me, and when they got to the pose where you lift your leg straight out in front of you and have the option of holding your leg behind your knee or locking your toes with your fingers, DH was cheering, "Lock your toes! Lock your toes!" Just what we all need - a cheering section during Yoga X!

I'm thinking of actually using the P90X meal plans (sort of). I don't plan on buying bars or recovery drinks, and I haven't been eating red meat for about 6 months. With those exceptions, I think I can do it. Those darn last 10 or so pounds just want to stay put. **sigh**

Anyway, I did enjoy Yoga X. I needed it today!

Ruppie - No worries. I meant to stick the DVD in and check last night but I didn't bother. It's my own fault. I am glad that I didn't miss much though and that you told me what I missed. I agree too that the first 50 minutes was much more challenging and difficult than the rest. In fact, I can totally see that being a work out on its own! I marked the time at the end of that segment in case I ever need a shorter yoga workout. I was sweating too during that section :) I liked it though. Heaven knows....in my hectic life I can certainly use yoga!

;) Christine

Well, I was SUPPOSED to do CardioX as part of the Lean program (viewed it last night and wasn't too impressed) but since I have decided to join everyone in the classic rotation, I skipped to Shoulder, Arms and Ab RipperX. So happy I did. I thought both were awesome workouts! Then I ran on the treadmill for a few miles. I am only ONE workout behind but vow to be "stretching" with you guys on Sunday. How? YogaX tomorrow, Legs and Back and Ab Ripper X on Saturday...totally skip KenpoX (for now...at least). Sunday,
S-T-R-E-T-C-H!!!!

Can I just RUPPIE, Sister, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your energy!!! All of you, what a SUPER fun group!

Hey Bubbles, I am attempting to follow the P90X eating, too! I am doing the Portion plan because it is already so close to how I usually eat when I eat clean. I'm not doing the supplements, recovery drink or bars either. I take a multivitamin, for the bars I eat a Zone bar and today, I think i came up with a way to "copy" the recovery drink. I read in the book that the drink is 40g carbs, 12 g protein, vitamins and electrolytes. I mixed up some protein powder with frozen berries, (just enough of each to get to 40 g and 12 g), added some water, blenderized it. No electrolytes but not a fan of them anyway. What do you think? Does that count as my "drink"?

Tomorrow I will do YogaX and it sounds pretty tough! Looking forward to it!

Hey, anyone adding in some of Cathe's leg work anywhere? I need some leg presses and working the legs once a week isn't going to cut it. I was thinking of adding in the lower body work from ME somewhere. HSTA has awesome leg work as well. Might do that too!

I have been a very bad girl today. I'm not worthy of being here with you all :-(
I worked all day, so no workout there. Then, a pharmaceutical rep took our staff to a dinner at a 5 star restaurant and we ate like a bunch of piggies. Dessert and all.
I'm sitting here at the computer thinking what can i do tomorrow to burn off some of these calories. Think i'll throw in a really long cardio instead of the legs day.
Won't be working out saturday either, we are taking a bunch of kids snowtubing, hopefully i'll get some exercise there (there are rope pulls to pull us back up the hill, so that's not going to be very energetic for me)

Dang,i hate when i miss too many days in a rotation.

Hello everyone! How are we today. Legs & Back is under our belt and the third round this week of Ab Ripper. I almost left AR for tonight b/c I was so dog tired this morning...or hungry, or dehydrated...can't figure out waht it was. Anyone else finding themselves worn out, tired, hungry, dehydrated, etc.? But I did AR and again, felt that I improved on the form.

Wendyjpa - Don't be so hard on yourself. Try to get something in this weekend and start next week with a clean slate :)

Amazon - I have a hard time pushing through to the end of Cardio Blast too. Glad I am not the only one! Hey, think of it this way...at least it is still a challenge to you! ;)

ImaFitnessFreak - I am ont doing anything additional to the rotation. If I am very motivate, I may add in my step class at the gym once in a while just b/c I already miss going! Also, your drink it fine, I bet. The idea is to get in some extra protein and supplement the vitamins, etc. so I don't think it is important that you use their brand. I use my own brand...Designer Whey protein powder, OJ, frozen raspberries, wheat germ and flax seed.

Margaret - I think the P90X eating program is good b/c it works on a method of exchanges. If you stick within those parameters, you will do well!

Dominican - Did you get in that workout last night?

Have a good day ladies!!! Way to go on your workouts this week!

Christine

Hi All! I haven't done any check ins before, but just thougt I'd chime in today. This morning I did P90X Shoulders and arms. I feel it already and will be sore tomorrow. I purchased P90X when everybody was talking about it, but I'm probably the only one who doesnt care for them to much. I enjoy Cathe's workouts so much more! this morning I thought I'd change things up ~ since we might have HC by this time next week. Yay!!!

I did "Shoulders and Arms" today. My arms are fried!

What's the use of those "Crouching Cohen Curls"? I tried to find them on the internet but could only find regular Cohen Curls, and they're never described as done while crouching. I just did regular Cohen Curls. :*

Re: Dreya & Tony. There used to be a video clip at Beachbody of Tony visiting Dreya at her trapeze workout place but I can't find it now. Tony seemed less confident of himself in this clip, more like an uncertain reporter granted an interview with a huge celebrity. I got the idea Dreya hadn't committed to doing P90X at that time.

When I got the DVDs and saw Tony & Dreya interact I thought Tony was giving Dreya all the screen time he'd promised her. He's always saying "Dreya WEBER!" (so we're sure to know her name) and he tells the three of them, "you'll be world famous!" I think it's more about promised name exposure than a crush.

Bubbles: I swallow my regular vitamins and my protein shake. Imafitnessfreak's berries are the best carbohydrates you can get in a shake, much better than added sugars from a recovery drink.

Imafitnessfreak: I want to call you "Ima", as in that Alias episode where Jennifer Garner's torturer asks her what her name is. She whispers, "Ima," and he asks, "'Ima' what?" And she says, "Ima gonna kick your ass!" :p

Wendy, just keep plodding on ahead, don't look back and don't berate yourself. Look forward.

O.k, Ladies, I WAS going to say you can call me "FF" but I REALLY like "Ima" much better now! I actually saw that episode!!! Love it!

I did YogaX today followed by a run on the treadmill. I will have caught up to you gals by Sunday, while your doing Kenpo tomorrow, I'll do Legs and Back (or whatever was on deck for today) and then Stretch with you all on Sunday.

I didn't think Tony was too thick on Dreya in Shoulders and Arms but in Core Synergistics...pop it in now just to see if you agree. However, I do want to view it again now that I have new information. He does say her name so much! I think she was in Shape Magazine about a year ago with other trapeze people. I'll have to see if I can pull it. I save them all.

Off to buy more protein powder! Following the P90X eating plan has left me turning to shakes to meet my protein requirements. Yummy!

Happy Friday All!

Ima and Amazon - that drink sounds great. I'll have to try it!

Okay, so I'm a first time P90X user. Do these routines seem difficult but very doable while you're doing them, but do they seem to sneak up on anyone but me? Today I did legs and back and Ab Ripper. It's 4:30 and I'm getting so stiff! The Cathe workouts seem to be difficult while you're doing them, but I don't experience DOMS (usually) with her workouts. The P90X workouts seem to really hit me later. Anyone else finding this to be true?

I'm enjoying the series as well as this thread. It's keeping me motivated.

Margaret

Hi Everybody,

It's been a little bit since I've checked in. Did Yoga yesterday and 1/2 of Legs and Back today. For some reason I felt totally exhausted 1/2 way thru and couldn't finish no matter how much I tried to make myself. Maybe the combination of 2 very busy days and that legs are not my strong side?
On to Kenpo tomorrow.

Margaret- I find exactly the same. I don't feel sore until later or even 1-2 days later.

How is everybody else doing today?

Sabine

Hey Ladies, Time to check in for Saturday, January 29th!!!

I did Legs and Back, AbX then ran on the treadmill. Got to tell ya, disappointed with the leg work. After a while, I started pausing it and adding in some leg presses on my high step. I will definately be adding Cathe's leg work to this series...for sure. If it is JUST ME, then tell me...but I was like "what the heck" when they were all gasping, moaning and groaning over the leg moves! Ladies had 3 pound dumbells and I was using 15 pound dumbells! I guess Cathe just has my legs in the best shape!!:D :D :D

My upper back is feeling yesterdays YogaX...who-ah! Lovin' that! Not even sure what has it sore, just glad that it is!

Todays challenge...eating clean! Have a party to attend tonight, going away party for a dear friend moving to NYC. Have to try to eat clean! Lord, give me strenth!

How did you guys do today?? How was Kenpo?

Hello all! Did YogaX today as planned. When I've done P90X before, I always substituted Yoga Zone flexibility tapes no longer than 30 minutes, so this was a real eye-opener for me.

"Vinyasa" is now my favorite word because it meant I could do that belly stretch, about the only post I could do okay. I cracked up when Tony said to do the best downward dog we could do, because "Downward Dog Magazine" was coming to our house. :p

Margaret, these routines definitely sneak up on you. I start to stiffen as the day goes on, and by the next morning I'm toast. Sometimes it takes the next afternoon or the morning of the second day, too.

Sabine, maybe you ran out of gas because you need to eat a little more? Another thing: depending on your menstrual cycle you could be weaker than you usually feel during a workout.

Ima, I am totally with you on the leg work in P90X. I think it's more core legs than muscle-building legs. I don't get what I want from that leg workout so I do PLB or Leaner Legs. Cathe handles leg work much better than P90X.

Dominican, what Cathe titles do you have now? I'm partial to her newer ones because the DVDs are chaptered better. I love CTX even though it's not chaptered well, but my first instinct is to tell you to get the newer DVDs rather than the older ones.

Tomorrow is Stretch/Rest day. I might do the Stretch tape... but I'm feeling pretty good after that YogaX. I didn't realize how tight I was until I finished it and felt better.

For whatever its worth to you cool P90Xer's....I always added another Cathe leg workout to my rotation as I am used to working my legs 3 times a week. I'll tell you as a pear shape, my legs got smaller with P90X and a Cathe workout added, but ultimately as a runner...I did loose some leg strength, but did gain upper body and ab definition with the Classics Doubles rotation. You are doing great, and I enjoy reading the posts...:)...Carole
