P90X Before and (almost) After

Elaine:

I know that some people said Legs and Back isn't enough, but I found it to be incredibly tough and a real burner. The first time I did it, I had DOMS for 3 days. And yes, my legs are better, as is my butt. Now that could be a combo of the leg work, and Kenpo and Plyo and some yoga. Yoga is really the only thing I've subbed. I've tried it a couple of times and both times I had awful neck pain the next day and even a couple of days after. I don't know if it's because I'm doing something wrong or if it just tweaks my back/neck in a way that it doesn't like. I've pretty much followed everything else exactly. Well, I also didn't rest on the rest days *whistles nonchalantly* ;)

Tonight was supposed to be yoga, but I did Cardio X instead, which has a bit of yoga in it.

Shelley.....WOW!!!! You look fantastic....it looks as though you have gotten great results from the X!

Shelley, you've inspired me to try this system again. I've had it for a couple of years but never took it seriously. I guess I was turned off by the emphasis on diet, which I have a hard time adhering to. I don't know how old you are but I'm 42, so even if I followed the plan I don't know if my results would be the same as say, someone in their 20's or 30's. However, I'm willing to give it a try. Once I get these new Cathes, Amy's and Jari's out of my system. Great pics! You look fabulous!

Leslie - I'm also 42. And I didn't adhere to the diet one little bit. In fact, I ate a plethora of crap (excuse my coarseness).

Hi Elaine - Not Shelley and I don't have her back but re the legs.

Personally I found I got very good leg results from X as well. Like Shelley I'm not exactly why! I seem to have more definition (this is my toughest area). I think yoga makes a huge difference too.

I've done classic - did doubles in phase II.

Leslie - I did follow the diet pretty closely and got good results. From the p90x folks it seems that everyone gets good results building muscle but in terms of leaning out - losing lbs - inches the folks that follow the diet get much better results following the diet at least somewhat. I'm at about 87%. I was totally opposed to the diet but am so glad i followed it. I had gained 5 lbs over 2 plus years and it's gone now. Clothes are fitting well.

I must say that for me the biggest gains have been
- doing 20 plus BOY push ups
- increased flexibility from yoga
- doing 1 pull up
- upping my weights in everything

I've been doing the 8-10 but don't think I've gained too much mass.

Shelley nice to see what an inspiration you are to so many folks here :)

Wow - you look great! I was hoping maybe you could give me some advice. I'm new to the Cathe forum but not her workouts. I have been looking at the beachbody web site and P90X. I am considering getting it after seeing results like you have achieved. How do the workouts stand up to Cathe workouts? I tried a beachbody workout several years ago and got really bored with it, but there were only 2 workouts at that time. I really like Cathe workouts but my fitness level hasn't really changed in the last couple of years. How long are the P90X workouts? What do you particularly like and dislike about the program? Any information you could provide would be helpful. Thanks!!
Angie

Wow Shelley!!!! Great results!!! You are doing fantastic....http://bestsmileys.com/signs15/11.gif[/img]

W-O-W-!!!!!!!!

Shelley,

You have been working and it shows. You look sooooooooo good.

Could I have a copy of your "plethora of crap" diet? I own P90X (looks like I should actually *do* it), but your diet sounds much more to my liking than Tony's.

Seriously, I'm impressed.

I also want a copy of the plethora of crap diet--lol

Shelley, WOW!!...just WOW!! You look so good! You can see the definition in your back muscles and your waist looks taught and narrow. I'll take that bod any day;)

And those guns!!

Angie: There are tons of threads with this info, but I know it's hard to search and find exactly what you're looking for, so I'll condense it right here.

How do the workouts stand up to Cathe? They are definitely as good as Cathe, as tough as Cathe, but are completely and utterly different to Cathe. There's no step, very little cardio, the weight routines are set up so that you do the number of reps YOU want to do, as opposed to following the instructor. There's no fancy choreo, it's very basic but HARD.

The workouts run from 16 minutes (Ab Ripper X), and the next shortest is Cardio X at about 45 minutes. Most of the others run an hour, but Yoga X is 90 minutes.

There's nothing I dislike about the program. I'm in Week 10 and still loving it. I love the results (obviously), and the structure of the workouts and the fact that you push to be what YOU want. Tony Horton's style is different, but I really like him and find him hilarious.

My SO would never go near a Cathe workout, but he's doing these. Just the weight ones right now, but he's showing interest in Plyo and Kenpo as well.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

I ordered P90X and should be receiving it next week.. can someone give me a hint on the diet everyone is referring to ? what is it like and why don't some follow it? Thanks !

It's not really a diet, more a nutrition plan. I don't think it has set menus, just number of servings of carbs, proteins, etc. that you should eat each day during each phase.

I didn't follow it.

The program comes with a comprehensive book on nutrition, complete with recipes. I've made some of the recipes and they're pretty good. The whole carbs, protein and fat percentages were over my head as I didn't want to bother sitting down and calculating everything I consumed, but I'm sure if you took the time, you could figure it out.

Maybe this was asked before and I missed it, but Shelley and others, did you do any Cathe cardio along with the rotation, or just strictly stick to the plan as written?
