Overwhelmed newbie with questions...

Hi! I'm just getting started with Cathe's workouts and would love your advice. What's your favorite workout that combines step and weight training (dumbbells, only)? I really can't afford to buy an entire series so I'm looking for the biggest bang for my buck. I've been using Cross Train Xpress which I really like...but I'd like to start building a small library. My goals are weight loss and toning.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome! Overwhelming it is!!! I used to have a massive wish list. I would check often to see what was on sale. Slowly I built my library and you will too. I would suggest...Cardio & weights (I believe that also has Imax 2) someone correct me if I'm wrong please. There's also Low Impact Circuit, Drill Max, Athletic Training & 4 Day Split to name a few.

Hey Eliza
Low Impact Circuit is a very versatile disc for both step, weights and either/or. The premixes give you the choice of circuit weights or straight up sculpting/lifting. So are the 'High Step' ones, although not exactly traditional cardio step. I cannot think of anywhere where you couldn't sub your dumbbells for the barbell work.
BodyMax 2 is a fan fave, if you can handle the impact. Boot Camp - Muscle Endurance is a great bang for your buck purchase & also has everything, especially for leg toning, although it isn't traditional cardio step, it's high step for conditioning.

My vote would be Low Impact Circuit! ;)

Many have stated these dvds, but here is a list of Step work outs with weights:

1. Step Jump and Pump & Step Blast (combined on one dvd)
2.IMAX 2 & Cardio and Weights (on one dvd) (IMAX 2 is my fav...but has no weights)
3. Timesaver (this is really cool: has 5 - 45 min (approx time) that combines step and weights. This will give you a great variety and would be good especially if you are new)
4.Low Impact Circuit
5. Body Max 2
6. 4 Day Split: Would be a great investment...has many many different combinations of step, weights and also some Bootcamp and Kickbox. This might give you the most bang for your buck and the most variety.

These then would be that from which I would choose. Best wishes.

Perhaps, if you can afford it, you could try Cathe on Demand for a month so you can sample them all and then stop it after that month and buy the dvd you loved the most.
Otherwise, like Elsie said, BodyMax 2 has a bit of everything on there and many variations. For a full review see this Cathlete's blog:

Have a look around that blog and you will get a lot of other ideas. I can't recommend it enough!

That blog helped nurture my Cathe obsession...I also highly recommend it for the detailed descriptions of every Cathe workout!
