Oreo Balls recipe! Warning: Not low cal!

I am salivating here!! I'm not much of a sweet eater either. I usually make Gingerbread Men for Christmas, but since I already made them for Thanksgiving, I'll give these a try. Besides rolling out dough is a pain.
I'll go back and read the posts, but did we get an answer on how many this recipe makes?

I'm lucky that I'm allergic to chocolate, but this recipe will come in handy for my company pitch-in next week...and for my husband's chocolate-loving family.

Hi Susan,

I read that it makes around 60 balls.

I'm going to try it out this weekend!

O.K. all of you diet killers! I am back from Wal Mart with stuff for everything in this thread!!

I found the cutest Pretzels calle "Heartzels" which are shaped like hearts. Had to get those, didn't I?

Hopefully I will get off with just a taste of each of these things. I bought only enough to make what I NEED to make for parties etc. Now I am hoping I can stick to the plan.

Thanks everyone, I think;)

I made the Oreo Balls for my sister's baby shower. I used pink and blue melting chocolate and put them in candy boxes. They were a HUGE hit at the shower. Be careful they taste great and you can't stop at one!!

Autumn, that crossed my mind too. I was thinking of using Reduced Calorie Oreos and Light Cream Cheese, but then I don't think they'd taste as good. Might as well splurge!

:)

All of the recipes sound wonderful! WE had our neighborhood Chirstmas cookie bake last night, so I might have to give these a try once we are out of the cookies that we already have.}(

Tips!!

They are STILL talking about the Oreo Balls on my wedding planning forum.

Here are some tips from one of the girls!! I'll quote her here!

"Here are a few tips from when I made the infamous Oreo balls on Wednesday:

-I used a blender to crush the Oreos and it worked fine (about 10-15 Oreos at a time). You need to keep pulsing until the consistency is really fine, like dirt!!

-I found it pretty hard to get the cookie and cream cheese well-blended with a spoon and even a fork (pastry blending technique) probably because I didn’t let the cream cheese soften for long enough. When I gave up on the fork and used my hands to knead the batter, it blended wonderfully

-for the melted chocolate coating, I used a Nestle white chocolate baking bar. I followed the directions on the package for melting—you melt it in the microwave along with a Tablespoon of shortening. The consistency was perfect and it was delicious.

Thanks ChiRuby--this is now one of our favorite treats! I think we only have 4 left in the fridge!"

Hi Dani! We deserve a splurge now and then. I really like the Whole Foods 365 cookies... better than Oreos. I devoured... ummmm... a few. :) I am trying to eliminate hydrogenated oils as much as possible and picked these up to replace my DH and DD Oreos. It seems hydrogenated oils are in everything it seems... even some cough drops.

Anyway, I look forward to trying these.

Another suggestion is to use the whipped cream cheese. It is fluffier and will blend with the oreos better (I think). I am going to try it out this weekend.

I made them today!!!

I made the Oreo balls today!! I used the Almond Bark Chocolate and whipped Cream cheese. They look just like truffles and they are soooooooooooooooo good! Believe it or not I could only eat 2 of them! That's it! I was done. They are delicious!!

To crush the oreos I just put them in a big ziplock bag (about 10 at a time) and hammered the bag with a metal meat tenderizer. It was very easy.

:)

Hey Dani!

I bought the goodies to make them this week. Just curious how you covered them with chocolate?? Is there an easier way then using the toothpick method since mine ALWAYS fall off the toothpick? My daugher said she usually puts them into a big spoon and then pours the chocolate over them and then she keeps turning them in the spoon if that makes sense. Just wondering if there are any other ideas? Can't wait to try them and Dave is drooling thinking about them since Oreos are a fav of his. :9

RE: Hey Dani!

Hi Debbie!

I used a fondue fork at the beginning. The spoon idea is good too. Toward the end I just dumped 3 or 4 balls at a time into the chocolate and rolled them around with a spoon and took them out. The Almond Bark Chocolate melted quick and stuck to the cookie nicely.

Have fun! Let me know how they turn out.

:)

RE: Hey Dani!

I made these this weekend and have them sitting out right now here at work. They have been a big success. My husband loved them...but he could only eat two because they gave him a serious sugar high.

He and I were talking and thought about making these with the vanilla Oreos and white chocolate since I am allergic to dark chocolate. We also thought about making them with the mint Oreo cookies. That actually sounds good to me!

Thanks for this recipe.

RE: Hey Dani!

Who makes the Almond Bark Chocolate?
I live in Toronto, Canada, and I cannot find anything called Almond Bark Chocolate??
I found Almond Bark, which is Just chocolate with whole almonds in it....but I do not think this is what you are talking about....
I made them yesturday as well, but with plain dark chocolate....!!!
I have a feeling this past weekend was an OREO weekend....lol
