Is there anyone reading "The New Earth" and joining Oprah's Worldwide Webcast with author Eckhart Tolle? You can also download all the webclasses at iTunes or go directly to Oprah.com. edie

RE: Oprah &

I have read it and I am doing the course! I absolutely LOVE it! It puts everything into perspective for me. I have read a lot of Eastern Philosophy and this coincides with it very well.

Tolle seems like such a sweet human being.

DId you read The Power of Now by him as well. I think A New Earth is better, but it says the same thing.

RE: Oprah &

HI,

I have been trying to read this book but it is going very slow. I am busy with fT work plus teaching a college class.

The book drags on for me. It seems the concepts he talkes about could be written on one page not 4.

I am going to for sure finish it and read it again since I do agree with what he is writing but it droooones on for me.

RE: Oprah &

I'm reading the book. It does seem to go very slow, especially the first half. BUt I am determined to finish it.

RE: Oprah &

I'm reading the book and love it. I tried to listen to Oprah's downloaded classes but it frustrates me with all the freezing so I gave up.

RE: Oprah &

thanks everyone for your replies. I've only listened to the audiobook of The Power of Now within the past 8 months. I loved it and try harder to stay in the now since listening to Oprah's webcast.

That may be a way for those who are having difficulty getting through the first couple of chapters in The New Earth. Listening to the download may be easier and faster - I still think with the actual reading of the book, the thought or concepts go deeper because it just takes longer to read.

I think Oprah is doing a wonderful thing with the world wide webcast to help humanity's evolution. And here it starts, one conciousness at a time...

RE: Oprah &

I have read both books. I actually was unaware of Oprah's interest in the book until I saw her sticker after I had ordered it from the bookstore. Her endorsement only made me hesitate for a second LOL! (Just kidding!!! Don't want to start an Oprah debate.)

I have enjoyed both books and have recommended them to others. I love that the emphasis is on our connectedness as human beings and the idea that the essence of who we are is not our thoughts, roles or labels. In this way, we can see that whatever we do to or feel about others ultimately affects ourselves.

I also have enjoyed Dr. Wayne Dyer's books and I am currently reading Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life. This book is an interpretation of the Tao and an interesting read as well.

Namaste ladies!

RE: Oprah &

I saw that on youtube...but I've been a Christian my whole life, and find that the power of now, and quiet meditation brings the serenity and calmness that invites what I term the Holy Spirit (that moment where I have insight and compassion beyond my baser instincts) what you may call consciousness, or whatever.....the book is difficult reading for those like me who have that middle age attention span (i.e., that of a gnat) - but the gospel tells us that God is Love...and what is Love? Love is patience, love is kindness, love sticks up for the meek, promotes justice...so have no fear on this book that promotes sitting still and quieting your mind - that is when I have heard the wisdom of Jesus telling me to be still, be generous, be not afraid - I am with you...the intolerance in some forms of Christianity is as scary as any Islamic extremist, where we point to one another as more or less Christian than another because people don't interpret the Bible as we do....
If you have faith, Jesus said to not have fear - go ahead and read whatever you want...remember the Church forbade reading Galileo at one time!

RE: Oprah &

are you scared of me? why?

I only posted cause I care and want to get good info out. I let people believe as they like but I feel an obligation to share what I believe to be the truth. I believe God would want us to help fellow man from falling for deceptions. The bible warns of it consistently. If you disagree that is fine. But, There is also nothing wrong with me sharing my thoughts on it. I'm not threatening anyone or anything as I nor most Christians believe in that.

this is an exercise forum though so I'm not trying to start a debate on it. The thread was started and I put my 2 cents in. I'm not gonna blow anyone up. k ;)

I'd also say read what you want.. just be very cautious.

RE: Oprah &

Jess,

I am not sure who you are directing this post to, but don't worry - nobody on this thread would be scared of you or be trying to offend you. We are are all just sharing our thoughts on a book. You were simply stating your feelings about the book and concepts and there is no problem with that.

I believe that as you did post the link that you have invited comment on it - not everyone will feel as you do and please don't be offended or defensive if anyone doesn't find it as relevent as you do.

I do thank you for sharing the link - it was certainly an eye opener for me.

RE: Oprah &

I was just responding to this comment "intolerance in some forms of Christianity is as scary as any Islamic extremist."
I think someone felt like I/or the video was attacking in that way so wanted to clear it up. thats all.

I definetly didn't expect everyone to agree with me.

RE: Oprah &

I am not into this Oprah thing. I have heard of the book and get the jist of it. There are so many different religions out there it can be so confusing if you have never had any religion in your life.

My bottom line is if whatever you believe in makes you a better person and a contributing member to society who are we to judge them.

RE: Oprah &

Thank you for your comments....you talk in a very open and non-judgemental way...and I do agree with you.

RE: Oprah &

I believe in the calmness and serenity of the Holy Spirit, too. However, the Holy Spirit is also my Guardian and Protector. It's not all "feel good", and do whatever. Jesus warns us to be on guard, not to read and enjoy books that could lead you astray. I believe this out of love for the Father, not intolerance of others. Satan is real. He is always trying to decieve, even the kindest people with the best of intentions. :)
