OCD Much?

Just curious - how do you guys go about planning your workouts? Do you plan for the week with backup plans in mind, or just wing it?

I really stress out and spend too much time worrying about how to fit in this cardio or that weight workout. It's been a little easier following the STS weight training because the weight workouts are planned out for me basically. But the cardio...and trying to not get bored. Am I the only crazy one?

I am VERY OCD about planning my workouts (as well as grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning the catbox, the house, watering plants, etc......Thanks Flylady!)...I do a full months worth of workouts at a time. I've got a 3 ring binder with sheet protectors and my Cathe catalogue (for w/out times including premixes when available). I have one week per page and find it very easy to flip through and see what I need to spend more time on for the month. Also find it very easy at that point to change a week (I don't like scribbles on these pages! LOL!)...Very simple system and works very well...

You've just given me some great ideas! When you say "Cathe catalog" do you mean the Cathe compendium that some of the forum members put together or is there something else? I really like knowing the times for premixes - would love it even more to know the order of the exercises. This used to be listed as chapters or something when you searched DVDs on the cathe.com site.

I just need to get a better system down. I write out and rewrite out my "plan" of attack a million times.

I used to be just "today is wts" or "today is cardio" but not so much after STS. I now put in my wt workouts ahead of time, along w/ ab workouts. Then I pick my cardio as I feel like it, but try to keep a good mix of styles and impact. I am actually scheduled all the way thru next Jan now!! I am now doing circuits w/ a full body in the middle, then a week of light full body - Push/Pull, a week of vacation, then a week of light full body - Supersets, then STS 6 months, which takes me to next year. I feel so organized!! I will fill in my cardio as I go, with the exception of CCPP which is already on my calendar.

I print out an empty calendar page for the month. I then plan each week as they come up, writing down which days are weights and which are cardio.

I also keep track of cardio minutes, whether the cardio was high impact, HIIT, low intensity, etc. (helps to prevent overdoing things and challenging my joints a little too much), and my daily calories. At the end of each week, I record how I'm feeling ~ be it weak and worn out or super strong and happy with myself ~ and how my body is responding.

I have a HR monitor so I can keep track of hours spent working out each week and calorie totals. I find it both helpful and hurtful b/c I kind of obsess about the time or calories. I need to learn to put it to better use like seeing a pattern of overdoing it. I like your idea of writing down and keeping track of the intensity levels and how you feel at the end of each week. It's easy to forget how wiped out you feel come the next week!

I'm very ocd about the planning but not so much about the executing. lol! I do my best. I try to keep the planning to one longer session on the weekend and a daily look at my rotation so I know what I'm doing. I admit, I'm a rotation junkie!

I used to kind of just "wing it" but about 6 months ago, just before STS, I started planning out my workouts 4-6 weeks in advance. After STS, I can't imagine going back to "winging it!" I liked being told what to do each day for weights. When I get STS Cardio, I won't need to think at all!

Right now I go with cardio day, weight day, etc, and decide what I'm doing usually the day before. Not OCD yet.

I guess I'm sort of a slacker...STS has taken the guesswork out of the weight workouts, but cardio is whatever I feel like that day. If I'm feeling strong, I'll go with an IMAX, but if I feel tired or weak, I'll pick an easier cardio.

I love having the STS weights planned out for me so I'm a bit nervous about how my routines will go after I'm done (next week). I've been trying to roll with with punches with cardio and doing what I feel up to, but it's been stressing me out b/c I really want to plan it. I know it's probably better to listen to my body instead, but still. So I will write down what I think I'm going to do, but then spend the day rethinking my choice(s). I get bored so easily so I know that is a big factor as well.

I have been letting Cathe take care of it for me since last August by following her monthly rotation, takes all the guess work out of it for me! ;)
But very OCD, I have had slight injuries that cause me to deviate from her plan - gets me all flustered when I can't follow it EXACTLY!!!! Sometimes I hate being so anal!

This made me smile! I am the exact opposite. I am completely OCD about doing my running and working out every single day, but I never, ever plan ahead what workout I am doing. I wing it completely!
I am fascinated by those of you who journal and plan ahead... that is so not me!

I am very OCD about my rotations. I won't be done with STS 6 1/2 month version until August, but I've already been playing with what I want to do during the month I'm taking off before doing the 3 month version. :D I also have binders and page protectors and keep my Cathe catalog handy for looking up information. I have sheet that have a breakdown of all the possible cardios I have, total body, circuits, abs etc. So, when I go to plan a rotation I have it all right there handy.

BTW I'm not like this in ANY other part of my life. I have my priorities. ;)
