Oatmeal recipes

Does anyone have any good "clean" oatmeal recipes? I tried making the old fashioned oatmeal the other day and it tasted terrible! I added some nutmeg, cinnamon and put bannana slices in with it but it was just so bland. Does anyone have any good suggestions??

I do not know how clean you need it but if I am doing mine on the stove, I will add some apple juice to the water or use all apple juice instead of water. Then you can season it accordingly. Like you would apple pie , cinnamon and nutmeg. Whatever you like.

I know it is vague but I hope it helps.

I don't like my oatmeal cooked, w/ the exception of steel cuts. It seems mushy and gross and I can't get past the texture. I eat mine uncooked, about a half cup of oats, a cup of buttermilk or skim milk (soy/rice/whatever works, too) and a piece of chopped fruit (apple, peach, nectarine, mango) or a cup of berries mixed in. I like frozen fruit, too. Makes a nice cool feeling in the summer, and often tastes better than fresh in the winter. Maybe a drizzle of honey or a sprinkle of cinnamon/pumpkin pie spice/all spice (sweet spices) Yum!! Or instead of milk, plain or vanilla yogurt, or 0% fage. Yummers!!! I like all of the above in my cooked steel cuts, too. Uncooked is much, much faster for weekday breakfast. You can even toss it together the night before, cover it, and leave in the fridge, but then it is a bit mushier.

I cook up 4 days worth of Steel Cut oats every Sunday night then microwave 1 portion for breakfast. I like to add fruit (fresh or frozen) or raisens with some milk to take the dryness away. Also, adding some slivered almonds just makes it so yummy.:D

I add some sort of fruit, apple, frozen blueberries or raspberries, and 1/8 cup SF syrup...very yummy IMO. OH & don't forget the cinnamon!

i dont care for oatmeal freshly cooked, but in making it for my baby i've discovered it's more tolerable as leftovers. today she didn't finish her breakfast so i did for her ... and it was delicious! i pureed prunes & made homemade applesauce. mixed those up w/ some oatmeal. so good! i think i'm crazy!!!:p:p:eek::eek:

i grate an apple and sprinkle with lots of cinnamon, add blueberries, walnuts/almonds, and the oatmeal. sometimes i've thrown in some raisins or craisins on top.

Here's my current favorite:

1/2 cup old fashioned oats
6 oz vanilla rice milk
18 almonds
1 tsp real maple syrup
microwave 2-3 minutes

While the oatmeal and two heaping tablespoons of dried blueberries (Trader Joe's) are cooking, I mash half a banana in the bowl that I'm going to use. On top of that I chop up fresh fruit in season (strawberries, blackberries) and/or add whole fresh blueberries or raspberries. I also add 12 chopped dry-roasted no-salt almonds (sometimes walnuts) and 1 heaping tablespoon of ground flax seed.

As you can see it's more like a bowl of fruit with a bit of oatmeal to hold it together. Keeps me going until my mid-morning snack.
