News letter on Menopause & Weight gain

I've learned the older I get, the quality of food has more of an effect on my weight vs. calories. I know it's been said, calories in vs. out, but it is not true for me. Sugar makes me gain weight. My body is less forgiving of a cupcake vs a bowl of oatmeal. :)

You know fit, your post made me stop and think. Earlier I posted that I eat whatever I want, but just don't eat a lot of it. When I read what you said about a cupcake being worse than a bowl of oatmeal, I paused and thought.... you know, I can't even say if that's true for me because I really don't eat sugary treats. I am just not a sweet eater. It's not that I deny myself treats, but it usually isn't a cake/pie/cupcake/cookie type thing.

So, with that in mind, I must slightly amend my comments earlier. Maybe sugar is more detrimental as you get older. I can't honestly say it wouldn't be for me because I eat so little of it.

Still... as we've all figured out... everybody is different. We can hash it out until the cows come home, but each woman is going to have to figure out her own path to wellness and feeling good as they age.

I agree.
It didn't take me long to figure out that sugar was the devil in my diet, but I am a sugar addict:eek:.

I am in peri menopause

I do not think you have to gain weight, and, if you exercise, it keeps your metabolism going fast.

I think that 1300 calories

I think that 1300 calories a day is much too low. If you have muscle, you need to feed your muscles.

The site"myfitnesspal" put me at1200 cals. I think I'd probably faint after 5 minutes of To the Max at those calories! And I'd be hungry all day regardless.... Lol

I agree. It's not just calories it's the type of calories. :)

I spoke to a dietitian on Friday. I showed her by food log. I am eating good foods, it's the preparation of some of my dishes she is concerned about. My calories are between 1200-1400 a day (which is good for me) on average. One suggestion is she wants me to change out the oil I cook with. Steam more then I can add actual food calories instead of the oil calories. She thinks that will make a difference. I want to lose one pant size. :) She also suggested I do more cardio and lift less. :( I have plenty of muscle and I like it! :D
