NEW RUNNERS JANUARY 2010!!!

Hi Everyone,

The weather is much warmer here and I was able to workout in my backyard today! It was a beautiful evening. I did the following workout:

80 Squats

70 Sit ups
60 Walking Lunges (60 each leg)
50 Push Ups
100 Jump Rope
30 KB Swings
20 Squat Thrusts
200 Jump Rope

The Gymboss is great. It's about $20. The battery that came with it lasted over a year. It's really a great deal.

Tricia ~ I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your DH's phone interview goes well.

Waves to Alisha, Lisa and Cindi!

Hope everyone had a great Monday.

That workout sounds intense, Jane!

Tricia - best of luck to your DH in his job search. I hope the worst of the recession is over!

Ran tonight - 20 minutes slow, then 3x1kslow/1kfast/500m walk, then 15 minute progression run.

Its my rest day

I finally tried Atheltic Step last night. I really liked it. The music is great, the choreo was a little complex and more like a combination of Step Blast and LIC. Overall, a great workout and not too long. Today is my rest day. I’m taking my big bro to the dentist for another crown. Then, I’m heading to work to do some indoor video of a medical clinic that is partially built. Its really kind of neat to see a building from dirt work all the way to painted and finished.

Jane- Yeah, isn’t that the funny thing about a cheat meal. We look forward to it all week and then discover its really just. . . food. Ok, so what is the gymboss?

Tricia- Bwa ha ha that’s right its not a lie, it’s a shift in reality. I hope your DH finds a job soon, good luck out there.

Lisa- You understand the push pull effect of the untouchable food lol.

Cindi- I didn’t mean to lie, it just sort of happened. The shins were so ouchie I could barely go to the bathroom.

Hi Girls!

Glad everyone is getting in some great workouts and DOMS! I'm finally getting to where I can feel my legs again! I did CTX Kickbox with just the cardio portion and abs. Man, could I still feel the pain from my adductors! Ouch! :( It was a short workout and I really didn't feel like I worked that hard. :( I'll make up for it this weekend. I'll probably go out for another run at least on Saturday as long as it isn't raining!

Friday's interview is with the unemployment office. Why they do that after you've already put everything in writing, I'll never know. Seems to me, it's just a way for them to delay your payments, but they have to pay it retroactively so I really don't understand it! DH has been out of work for over a month and, assuming his payments start on February 1st, it will be 2 months before his first check!

Sorry, don't mean to whine. It's just stupid!

As for the job hunt, he's put in over 50 resumes and has had no calls since the first one he had way back in December! I hope this isn't how it's going to be!

Anyway, he starts classes tomorrow night, so I'll have the room to myself for my leg workout! It's going to be a quiet night! This will keep his mind busy at least! On the other hand, he's doing the grocery shopping, took my car for it's oil change today, does the laundry, so I really have nothing to complain about! :)

Okay, I'm done.

Stay strong everyone!

Hi Everyone!

I went on a 40 minute run this evening. It was a beautiful night and I felt great!

Alisha ~ Gymboss is an interval timer that allows you to set 2 different times for circuit and interval workouts. It's a great inexpensive workout tool. I used mine all the time and used it when I started running to do run/walk intervals.

Tricia ~ Whine all you want. It is stupid. I hope your DH finds a job soon!

Waves hi to Lisa and Cindi!

Good morning,
I've been a little slack the last couple of days. Monday was my birthday and I enjoyed a lazy morning with Andy, went for a fun ride on the beach with a girlfriend, and then spent the rest of the evening/night driving home. Yesterday I was dragging so I just went for a slow 3 mile walk with a girlfriend and the dogs. This morning I did CC Pump and added a round for deadlifts and stepups. Tomorrow I will probably kettlebell.

I'm in an awkward place with stepups since I don't have a highstep. I use the edge of my fireplace sometimes and its really too short. Other times I use a chair and its really too tall. So I kind of alternate between the two but it would be nice to be "just right".

Jane ~ Sounds like you had a good run. Enjoy the nice weather!

Cindi ~ Ooh, that sounds like an intense workout. How are you enjoying your training program?

Tricia ~ It's venting and everyone has to do it sometimes. It is a very stupid system. Sometimes I think those sorts of programs are just designed to be user-unfriendly and consume resources.

Alisha ~ How are you doing?

Lisa

Tricia- whine all you want, its ok. I've been whining about the job market for almost a year now. I'm working but I will be back on the hunt after April. I might take some time to work on my portfolio (video pieces, art, etc.) But, ya gotta admit, having someone at home to do what not is handy;)

lioness- Thanks for the info

Lisa- well, I'm doing good about most things. I did sort of fall off the wagon yesterday. There was some roast pork involved and a small bit of that 5 mint ice cream. But, I got back in form and had a tilapia dinner with green beans and a side salad for dinner.

This morning its Cardio Hula which in mho can't really work as cardio but rather a thigh workout. Then I'm going to do HIIT 30/30. I'm not up to the other workouts yet lol.

Jane ~ I was looking at the gymboss website and had a couple of questions. Is there a setting where the gymboss automatically alternates between work and rest periods? I don't want to have to push a button at every rest interval (does that sound lazy or what?). Also, do you know what the differences between the V1 and the 2009 versions are?

Thanks!

Alisha ~ It sounds like the ice cream was the only really bad thing. Roast pork is protein :) I think there is a lot to be said for cycling too - higher cal/carb days with lower cal/carb days. I actually feel like sometimes I loose weight on days that I'm eating more - which logically seems weird.

Does anyone have Muscle Max? Its the featured product this week and I'm interested in it. However, I prefer workouts that have limited reps per set (12-16) versus those sets that never seem to end (we'll do 16 reps, now 12 slow reps, now 32 pulsing bottom end reps, now...). So I like Pyramids and Gym Style more than Supersets. I'd appreciate anyone's input.

Lisa

Hi ladies!

Lisa - I have Muscle Max. It was the first Cathe weight workout I bought. It is long and complete (IMO) and has nice premixes. I almost never do the entire workout since it clocks in at over an hour, but I really like the timesaver premix since it is just under an hour. IIRC it does have some never-ending sets but I don't think it is that bad. I think the premixes (and 30% off!) make it a good deal. I used to do step ups on my coffee table when I didn't have the right step height. Have you tried checking out the hardware store/target for kitchen stools?

Alisha - I agree with Lisa, that doesn't sound too bad.

Hi Jane!

Tricia - I was listening to a Planet Money podcast this morning and thought about you (well, your DH actually). They were talking about in Denmark you can collect unemployment for 4 years but they also have tons of beauracracy around the program to ferret out people who are taking advantage of the system. So you have to prove you applied for at least 10 jobs each week, etc. And their taxes are CRAZY! They said the tax on cars is 200% - can you imagine paying 60K for a 20K car? I guess my point is that there is stupidity all over the world. :) Whine all you want.

Last night I joined my girlfriends for pedicures and then did Lalofit Vol 2. I would say 40%of it was really too hard for me to do. I need to stick with Vol 1. The workouts are simple but hard moves. Lots of push up variations, some plyometric moves, body weight with light weights for some upper body, lots of compound moves. I think the back and arm work is on the light side but you really work a lot on leg conditioning and chest/core. Lalo is super cute too (IMHO) - he doesn't talk during the workout but does a voice over but you can hear him grunting/breathing heavy during some of the moves...so I really like the workout. ;)

Running tonight - 40 minutes slow, then 10x100 strides, then a 5K at med/fast pace.

Hi everybody!

I did some easy yoga this morning and then later this afternoon is Step Moves.
Eats yesterday were pretty good, pork chop and salad for lunch, normal gf cereal for breakfast. I did do my hula/HIIT combo yesterday.

Lisa ~ I don't know the difference between the V1 and 2009 versions. I bought mine in 2007 so I think it's different than those 2 versions. Mine doesn't have a stop watch function which I would like. So maybe I'll get another one.

Yes, you can set the gymboss automatically so that it will alternate between work and rest periods. You don't have to touch it at all. BTW it is very easy to program.

Lisa ~

I have Muscle Max. I think you will like it. It does have limited reps per set (I think 12). It is a relatively straight forward weight workout. You start out with legs, then go to another body part where you do a number of different exercises, then to another and so on. It is similiar to the Gym Style Series. The only thing I don't like is the leg presses with the band. I don't feel them at all so I usually just do more squats. It's nice to have a full body weight workout (instead of splits). It also has a good ab section at the end as well.

Thanks for all the feedback ladies. Muscle Max sounds like it could be right up my alley. I think I want a gymboss too - thanks Jane! This morning I did Providence. I was a little puny since I haven't done kbs in a week or two. I'm going to go do Cardio Coach on the treadmill. This weekend I have to go run a booth at a hunting and fishing show so my workouts will be catch as catch can. (Being a good girlfriend has its drawbacks sometimes :) ) I did pack my kb, Providence and two Ellen Barrett workouts so maybe I can get something done in the hotel room.

Evening Ladies!

Feeling a bit better today emotionally! :) Thanks for all your positive notes and well wishes!

I did IMAX 2 tonight and my legs and glutes were just starting to hurt late this afternoon from STS Legs last night! The first half was kinda wimpy because of the soreness, but about halfway through, all of a sudden, everything just loosened up and I got my second wind! 2nd half was much better!

Tomorrow is back and biceps!

At least the weather has been milder here! I'm enjoying the temps being close to, if not in, the low 40s! I'm hoping to get another run or two in this weekend!

Ha! I must have imagined more reps in MM. :) Glad Jane knew hwo many reps there were.

Last night's run was hard. 40 minutes at a slow pace (I was inside so I set it at 11 min/mile), then 10x100 strides, and then a 5K at med/fast pace (I averaged 10:20 pace). I was beat at the end. 8 miles total.

Today I'm running again 3x30 progression runs with 5 minute walk breaks.

Way to go Cindi and Alisha!

Me, I have just broken my record of number of days working out in a row. :(

Had to take time to talk with my DH about his interview with the RI unemployment office. Not good news. It's going to be 2 more weeks before they make a decision on whether to pay him or not. Apparently, his former employer is saying that my DH left voluntarily and it was neutral or mutual. That is so not true! He was let go and my DH would never have left that job, at least not until he had attained his full CFA charter!

I don't know what we're going to do if they deny it. :(:(:(

I an't believe they are being like this.

So, I'll just be doing an STS make up workout tomorrow while DH is in school - back and biceps, the go for an interval run. I should feel much better after that! :)

Hi Everyone!

I ran a 5K this morning with my sister. I thought it was going to be warm and sunny but it was cold, windy and cloudy. Then I came home and did 200 swings with my 20kg bell.

Tricia ~ Sorry to hear about your DH situation. Hope things get better soon! I'll be thinking of you.

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Hi everybody.

I am so glad I went for a jog yesterday, it was rainy all morning. The weather map got it backwards. I did a yoga dvd with Ali MacGraw, the actress, and it wasn't bad. The description of the dvd said it was beginner but its lacking in instruction pointers. I plan to try the MMA Boxing tonight but does anybody know which one is the easy MMA? Is the Fusion or Kick boxing easier?

I'm taking today as my cheat day. I had a healthy breakfast of home made quiche (crustless) pistachios and a salad. I snacked on a few Tings, and 1/4 c. of that mint 5 ice cream with some chocolate chips.

Jane- I prefer to go out even if it is rainy/cloudy/windy rather than stay inside.

Tricia- I understand! I had a tough time with some of the producers I worked with in Hollyweird after I left, I really couldn't trust them to be honest referrals. I really hope it turns out ok for your husband.
