NEW RUNNERS JANUARY 2010!!!

You are welcome Jane. PM me your email and I will send you some sample runs that include progressions if you want to see how she incorporates them. :)

What's cool for me about the hawk is that we live in the suburbs and it is so neat to see wildlife here that isn't just squirrels and rabbits! One year we had a coyote in the backyard. One year we had a family of owls in the spring. I'm hoping the hawk comes back today. The cats are fascinated!

I'm resting today I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks Cindi. I will send you a PM.

I know what you mean about wildlife. Moving from the Chicago 'burbs to the country was a cool experience in regards to wildlife. I had never seen frogs or turtles. I get really excited when I see turtles. I'm like a 3-year old. I go outside and tap on their shell. Once we had mating turtles in the backyard. Seeing snakes in the backyard isn't so much fun but usually they are small. I love owls!! It's so cool when I spot one. I hear them lots of time but I can't always find them.

Hi everybody! I seem to be feeling better (go figure.) I just rested and did data entry yesterday, no workout. Today, I'm thinking the MMA boxing workout, is that the easiest of the new MMA workouts? Tomorrow will be Step Moves.

Good morning ladies,
I spent yesterday nursing a migraine and recovering my poor car (which broke down in Nag's Head New Year's Eve night) so I didn't get any workout in. This morning I did an episode of Namaste yoga, PUB (up only) AND Gym Style Legs (floor work only). I'm going to go for a walk or trail run this afternoon. Now that I have my car back, I can actually take all the dogs with me to the trail.

Ooh, I love wildlife watching. My parents met in Ornithology class and both have their Master's degrees in Wildlife Management so I spent much of my childhood looking at and identifying wildlife. It is loads of fun! Especially the hawks. I also love snakes and turtles and get to see some good ones down here.

Hi Everyone!

Wicked was fantastic! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it if you get the opportunity! I cried! I get so immersed in plays. The co-workers/friends I went with laughed at me, but not in a mean way! My friend, Sue, at least gave me a tissue! LOL!

Cindi - I'll be PM'ing you too! I'd love to try some of those progressions once I get back out running again!

I did get my workout in yesterday! Yea, me! I did STS Back and Biceps tonight. I can't believe how much I'm having to increase my weights just from Meso 1! Makes me glad that I'm doing the longer rotation! Gives me a second opportunity to work harder on each week's disks!

Stay warm this weekend! It's going to be a cold one! I've got Premix 5 of SJP - Step and Hi/Lo on track for tomorrow, then it's Yoga Today for Sunday's free yoga routine!

Well, I wasn't feeling better in the afternoon. I did Leslie Sansone 3 advanced miles :p Today is Step Moves, no risers, no expectations. Breakfast was millet, coconut milk, and 1/4 c. enviro kids puffs. I did take my vitamins. So far ok. Chat later, I gotta go to work,

Hi Everyone!

I was going to do a workout in my backyard today but I was a baby...too cold...so I did Circuit Blast and followed that with AMRAP in 10 minutes of 10 thrusters, 10 kb pull over situps and 30 swings.

I really like Circuit Blast. It was fun and has my favorite box jumps!!

I'm not liking this cold weather. Usually we get cold weather for a day or two and then it's done. We didn't even hit 40 today. I'm going to try for a run tomorrow afternoon as it will be 46. I really want to run so I'm going to find all my cold weather gear and give it a shot.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and staying warm!!

Alisha - I hope you continue to feel good! Let us know how you like Step Moves!

Jane - I don't blame you for not wanting to work out outside today! I talked to my Mom today (it's her birthday) and she said it was only 26 degrees in Jacksonville, FL! We are warmer than that up here today! I can't believe how cold it is down there! So much for wishing I were down there! Hope you are able to get a run done tomorrow!

69 days 'til Spring! Yes, I'm counting!

Did Step and Hi/Lo from SJP today and some ab work. I love that one! It goes by so fast and is so much fun! I can't believe how much stronger I am! Plyo jacks were a piece of cake! I'm also finding that in order to get a good workout, I'm having to up my step to the 8" height! 6" just isn't getting my HR up enough anymore!

Tomorrow it's yoga again!

Hope all our friends up in Northern California are alright! Just found out about that earthquake centered in Eureka yesterday!

Alisha - Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't your Aunt in Eureka? I hope she's okay and didn't suffer any major damage to her property or get hurt! The report said there were no major injuries!

Aunt Peggy

Tricia- Aunt Peggy Should be fine. They are used to earth quakes up there. There are several fault lines that run right through town.

I'm about to go for a hike/jog and then I will do Rodney Yee's Yoga for beginners. I got it from Netflix just to try it.

Step moves was a bit of a mind bender. Its not too long. And, the pace wasn't too fast. I think I could do it on risers if I ever figure it out. :p

Hi ladies,
Today I am driving back to the mountains. Temperature there is 17 degrees - woo hoo! If I get home early enough, I will do Providence with my kettlebell. Yesterday I did a really chilly horseback ride on the beach with a couple - the guy surprised his girlfriend and proposed to her on the beach. It was very sweet. (People do that pretty regularly, its our 4th or 5th proposal this season.)

Tomorrow's a very busy day then I hope to get back on track and in the groove again. I've gained 2-3 pounds over the break.

Tricia ~ I'm glad you had a great workout and are seeing improvements. That's a great feeling.

Alisha ~ Glad your aunt is doing well. Let me know how you like Rodney Yee. I keep wanting to get some yoga dvds but something about him just turns me off buying the dvd. Maybe if I did the workout I'd like it. I've just always had a weird hangup about guys doing yoga in tiny shorts.

Hi Jane and Cindi.
Lisa

I went to brunch with my Dad/Brother at Denny's. I used a coupon. I got the tilapia ranchero with green beans instead of mashed potatoes and I skipped the bread (they don't have the gluten free). I had a weigh in this morning. It wasn't as bad as it could have been but it wasn't great. I have 53 pounds to lose. Well, I knew it wasn't going to be great because I'm retaining water like crazy.

Rodney Yee is ok. I have only done a few minutes but I will do the other two workouts throughout the week and report back.

Lisa - I can see how proposals would be pretty common! Horsebackriding on the beach - very romantic! 2-3 lbs. isn't too bad and should be easy for you to shed back off!

Alsiha - I love tilapia! You can do so much with it and it's always good! I only do yoga once a week right now. I do whatever comes up on Yoga Today! There's always at least one pose close to the end that I can't do at all! Not bad for an inflexible person like me!

Hi All,

I braved the cold (39 degrees) and went running this afternoon. I ran about 3 miles. Then I came home and did AMRAP in 10 minutes of clean/squat/press 5/5 and windmills 5/5.

Lisa ~ Horseback riding on the beach is very romantic. I can see why many people do it. Hope you have time to do Providence.

Alisha ~ Glad your Aunt Peggy is ok.

Hi to Tricia and Cindi!!

Hi ladies!

Friday was a rest day. Saturday I did Travel Fit. Loved that workout. I know some people complain when Cathe isn't hard enough, but I think this is a great workout. I need variety. If I'm exercising 6 days a week, I can't kill myself everyday.

Yesterday I did an indoor run. It's been really cold here. Teens plus wind.

Lisa - I love horseback riding. How neat that you get to be a part of such romantic proposals.

Hi Everyone!

This evening I did the following workout inside. Still a little chilly to workout in the backyard.

Pendulum
50 Swings/ 30 Pull ups
40 Swings/25 Pull ups
30 Swings/20 Pull ups
20 Swings/15 Pull ups
10 Swings/10 Pull ups
5 Swings/5 Pull ups

I did 25 anchored sit ups before and after the workout. Pull ups were "jumping".

Cindi ~ I have no right to complain about the weather here when I know it's way colder up there. I remember when I lived up there the 20's were nothing. Now I am such a wimp. Of course I probably wouldn't mind it so much if I wore the proper clothing but I don't.

I haven't tried Travel Fit yet. I agree that you definitely need variety in your workouts.

Waving hi to Lisa, Tricia and Alisha!

Hi everyone! Ran last night. I have a dinner meeting tonight but I'm hoping I can get in some short weight work tonight. We'll see.

Hi runners,
Yesterday morning I had Implanon inserted (the birth control that gets implanted in your arm and works for three years). Since it goes in the skin next to your bicep, I wanted to get in a little upper body work on Sunday. So Sunday night I did kettlebells (2 rounds of Elevation, 1 round of Pinnacle - both on the Clinic dvd - and triple crush, figure 8 to hold/slingshots, and abs from Providence). Yesterday afternoon I walked 2 miles with the dogs and did the standing portion of Gym Style Legs. Tonight I'm going to try to get on the treadmill and, if my arm feels up to it, some PUB but we'll just play that by ear.

Jane ~ The further south I go, the more I realize how much I hate the cold. Dressing for it really does help but I still hate it.

Cindi ~ I agree - you can't go all out all the time. I'm confused by everyone who seems to think that Shock Cardio is supposed to be all high intensity. I assumed it was going to be a mix of things to keep inline with the confusion aspect of STS. I actually get my best results alternating shorter high intensity workouts (which for me is Cardio Coach) and longer low intensity workouts (walking, horseback riding).

Tricia and Alisha ~ Where do you find Yoga Today? Do you have to have internet access to watch it or can you save it to your computer? I would like to have another option for yoga. I really do like the Namaste yoga on FitTV but I when I'm working I usually can only do it on the weekends. I also like some episodes more than others. They sell dvds for it but they are very expensive.

Yeah, the proposal rides are very sweet and a nice way to make it a romantic surprise. The neat thing about this ride was that horses are her thing, definitely not his, and she was totally surprised that they were going riding and then the surprise of the proposal on top of that. The only thing weird about this one is the guy has had the ring since May and he picked the coldest day of the year when all the waterholes were frozen over to ride out to the beach to propose?!?!

Have a great day everyone,
Lisa

Lisa- The yoga today dot com is a website and the videos stream to your computer. You can also go on iTunes and download some shorter workouts/segments as video podcasts. Both are free :D

Today is a mess sort of, apparently I'm providing taxi services in the middle of my work day which means I need to leave here an hour earlier than planned so my 3 miles with Leslie are postponed until tonight. I would do a run but its supposed to rain until Thursday.

Evening Everyone!

Lots of excellent workouts going on with all of you! Way to go! I did the first cardio section of BodyMax 2 tonight. I was a bit tired, so couldn't really get myself through the blasts afterwards, which is what I usually do, then I did an abs segment. Proud of myself for working in at least 3 days a week of abs.

I'm still on my run of a workout a day since January 1st! I almost didn't workout tonight, but my DH just said, "Are you sure?" and that was it! I was upstairs changing and down in the living room setting up in 5 minutes! I could tell I was a bit tired, but still did my workout on an 8" step. I'm finding I have to used 8" because on 6" I'm just not getting the feeling of working hard, you know? It's more like taking a walk now. I never thought I would get to where I needed to do my step workouts on 8"!!

My DH has been taking Milo, the beagle, for a run a few days a week now since he's out of work. Unfortunately, it's not enough to tire Milo out! He is the official Energizer Beagle! Wish I could have his energy! It's been bitterly cold, but he goes out for a run when I leave for work right before 9 a.m.!

Lisa - I'm with you! I'm a southern girl (much as I hate to admit it!) and I hate the cold. My DH loves it up here and I would rather be down south or in Arizona! LOL!

Time for me to enter last nights STS numbers in the WM and recalculate my 1 RM! I'm still not getting to fatigue in my chest, but I can't increase the weight too much more because I couldn't hoist it down onto my step and up over my chest. I don't have the tower or a rack and my DH won't be home to help me starting next week. He'll be starting grad school on Wednesday and he'll have class every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday with the occasional Saturday morning class. Sigh, just when I started enjoying having a spotter . . .

Hello to all our MIAs out there! I'm hoping they will all come back for a visit once things start warming up!
