NEW RUNNERS JANUARY 2010!!!

Hi Everyone!

I had a chilly 3 mile run yesterday morning.

It was 24 degrees here this morning! Yikes! Since I'm at my parent's this week I was afraid that I would have to find something to scrap the ice off my car this morning. Luckily though there was some wind so no ice this morning.

I have no formal workouts planned this week since I'm staying at my parents. I have my kbells so I'll do squats, swings, sit ups and other things at night but it won't be a formal workout per se.

Lisa ~ I'm glad you enjoyed Gym Style Legs! I don't mind doing lower body floorwork though. You will LOVE the Gym Style upper body workouts. My favorite is Back, Shoulder, Biceps.

Hi to the rest of the gang. Hope everyone has a great day!!

Hi,
I did two walks today and some yoga. I was going to do an upper body workout but can't seem to find my motivation but that's okay. I've gotten plenty of upper body work in around the barn this week.

Jane ~ Good luck this week - I hope things go well with your parents and your workouts. I'm thinking about buying just Back/Shoulders/Bis. I don't work chest much (I have TOS - thoracic outlet syndrome) and figure I could just tack on tris from Pyramids.

Tricia ~ My dogs are funny about running too. Nellie has a limit to the number/speed of intervals she's willing to do onleash (she'll go forever offleash) and refuses to run multiple laps onleash. Ben doesn't like to run with traffic. Pip will do whatever. So sometimes I do laps and switch dogs out so each one can do a section of the run that works for them.

Hi to everyone else.

Lisa

Wow, Cindi! Almost a 2 hour run? I could never go that long! Hope you are able to get a good routine going!

I started Meso 2 today and I love it already! I like having time to get the next weights ready and still having time to stretch a bit and actually rest!

Lisa - isn't it funny how different our babies can be? My DH had to trick Peanut to get outside and then he snuck out and took Milo for a run! Otherwise, she would have had a fit about going too, then pooped out in about 1/4 of a mile!

Lisa ~ I think you'll be fine with just getting BSB. The chest and tri work is long and I feel is overkill. I haven't done the whole workout in a long time. I just will tack on portions of the chest and tri section after I do BSB. I think you'll do fine with the tri section from Pyraminds.

Tricia ~ I'm glad you are enjoying Meso 2. Someday I will get to that series!!

Cindi ~ Nice run! I think I did a 13K in a hour and 45 minutes.

Another chilly morning today. It was in the 20's with a wind chill of 19. I'm still just wearing a light jacket. I don't own a coat. Since I'm just running from the house to the car to the office and back it's not really necessary or worth the $$$ to buy a coat.

I didn't get a workout in last night but will try tonight. Dad is bedridden now and only eats about a cup of solid food a day. We will set up the card table and bring dinner to him and we'll eat together (even though he doesn't eat much) He was alert last night so I sat next to him and watched television instead of working out.

Hope everyone has a great day!! Ok...off to get some tea. It's cold in the office this morning.

Jane - I'm sure your parents appreciate you being there. You and your family are in my prayers.

We are having a cold week here - highs in the teens not including wind chill. So I'm running inside this week. Last night I did Circuit Blast and really liked it. Running tonight.

Tricia ~ Yes they are funny. Sometimes I think it would be easier if you could explain things to them. Those little sad eyes as you go out the door are heartbreaking even when you know that they don't really want to be doing what you're doing.

Jane ~ Thanks for the input. I hate to buy a workout and then realize I rarely use it. I find my self replacing chest work with more back work in a lot of Cathe's workouts anyway.

Cindi ~ Stay warm!

Hi to everyone else.

I did PUB up only this morning. I'm going to do CC V7 or walk with a friend this afternoon.

Lisa

Jane - Watching tv with your Dad during a good day is way better than a workout in my opinion! It will be a wonderful memory for you and I'm sure he enjoyed it too! My prayers are always with you and your family!

Lisa - I can't wait to try the Pyramid workouts! I'm going to be a maniac going through all Cathe's workouts once I've finished STS! LOL!

Cindi - Smart to stay inside with those temps! It's funny, but all my family in the South is complaining about the cold down there! My Dad's in Brownsville, TX and he was complaining about 50 degrees!!! That sounds like summer to me right now!

Did the Cardio portion of Body Max 2 tonight with abs! Tomorrow is STS Legs!

I was sore from Sunday's workout and just did a 3 miles with Leslie Sansone.

I will catch up on the personals later,

Hi everybody, till then!

Hi everyone! Ran inside yesterday - I did 30 minutes easy running, then 10x100 strides, then 20 minutes progression running. It was a tough workout. I can tell I'd gotten used to just easy running.

I had my marathon plan all mapped out but then heard about this other plan and emailed the woman who designed it. I really like her workout structure and her long runs are nearly as long as the other programs. Her program has you max out around 15 miles which seems risky to me but her other runs during the week are pretty challenging (no easy runs in her program) which maybe makes up for the shorter long runs.

I'm probably not making any sense - just trying to say I'm tweaking my plans still but feel good about all the options I have to get myself ready for May 1.

I joined a gym which has a track that is 8 laps to the mile and I'm happy about that. Last night was a Biggest Loser Pound for Pound challenge kickoff with the new season starting. Jerry and Estella from season 7 go to this club and were there last night along with the local news. They look great.

Hi Everyone,

I didn't workout last night. I was just too tired but my eating has been really good! I feel like I've lost some of my holiday pounds! There are still cookies and candy around my parent's house but my mom keeps it out of my sight!

Tricia ~ Thanks for your prayers! You will LOVE the Pyramid series. It's one of my favorites. I always feel it in my biceps the next day.

People are complaining about the weather here too! It's not something we are used to for longer periods of time. You get used to wearing the same clothes and walking around in shorts and t-shirts. I'm even complaining and I'm from the North. Now I know why I moved! :p

Cindi ~ What is progression running? I'm glad you found another plan out there. Don't most marathon plans have you maxing out at 20 miles. I guess if you are doing more challenging runs during the week than maxing out at 15 miles would make sense.

Waves hello to Alisha and Lisa. Hope to get a workout in this weekend. I so miss working out.

I love the Pyramid workouts too! Really works my arms and chest hard.

A progression run starts at your easy pace and you gradually increase speed as you go so you learn to 'finish strong'. It's not an exact science as to how you increase your speed. I go by perceived exertion so I start around a 5-6 and work to end around 8. I kind of think about the run in thirds. After the stride repeats my legs were really complaining during the first few minutes I was wondering how I would do all 20 minutes AND get faster, but it got better after a few minutes.

I think that is the reasoning - more quality, less quantity. I may still do a long run closer to 20 just for my own peace of mind, you know?

Today is my first foray into the HIIT disc. I be a-scared  I will start with my easy Belly Dance tape then kick it up a notch.

Hi ladies,
Today I walked with a friend and one dog and then came home at took each of the other dogs for a lap. I did challenge 2 of CC V7 for Pip's lap. I can only imagine how intense the entire workout is!! I'm really excited about V7 and like the music a lot. According to my pedometer (which I only wore for the walks/runs) I did 10,630 steps which is about 4.5 to 5 miles. That's been it for today.

Alisha ~ How was HIIT?

Cindi ~ Let us know how you like the new training system. I think there is a lot to be said for quality versus quantity in workouts. I find that doing Cardio Coach (doing fewer runs and walking the recoveries but running faster than my tempo pace on the intervals) improves both my speed and endurance. I never would have thought that it would improve my endurance as much as it does. That said, I still like to do a steady-state run that is close to my goal distance just for my peace of mind.

Jane ~ That's great! Eating is such a huge part of the equation. I'm glad you are doing well with that and hope you are able to get a workout in soon.

Tricia ~ I love, love, LOVE Pyramids!! I think Gym Style is going to be a close runner up though.

Waves hi to anyone lurking!
Lisa

Cindi - Hope the new training program works out well for you!

Alisha - Hope you survived your workout today! I'm sure it was intense!

Lisa - I only have through Vol 6 of CC! I had to take a break from buying them for a short while! As soon as my "running season" starts back up, I'll probably pick up the last 2 volumes in addition to Pump! Glad you got a good workout in!

I did STS Legs Disc 14 tonight! I was anxiously awaiting my 4 lb. weighted gloves which were being delivered today! Of course, UPS didn't show up until AFTER I finished! Figures.

I realized after doing legs that I really could use the 12-20 lb. weighted vest too! That will have to wait though. It's too expensive for me right now. I was just lucky to be able to get the gloves! My wrist weights are taking too long to adjust! These will be so much nicer!

sick and tired of being sick and tired

About 12 years ago I had laparoscopy to have endometriosis removed. I think its time to do it again. I have been having pain for two days which I think was mistaken for IBS. It feels like I'm being bitten in this one lower left spot. OUchie, and no sleepy either :( I have an appointment to see my gyn next month anyway. I'm so tired of being sick. I've been sick since last February off an on. More on than off. Its hard to have any zest for life when you are just wore out.

However, that said, I did my belly dancing yesterday and the HIIT workout. I liked both. The belly dancing was more of an activity. And my heart rate did not come down so much with the HIIT, I had to put it on pause a couple of times. I did the 30/30 workout. So, that was the easy one?:p

<Waves hi to everybody!>

HI ladies!

Alisha - Great job on 30/30. THey all seem so hard!

Lisa - About this new training program. I was really questioning the lack of a LSD run but I was adding up the mileage and across her 4 workouts in the first month, I'm running more total mileage than in my original plan AND I'm doing more variable workouts which I think is better anyway. So I'm getting a lot more comfortable with this idea. I still may sneak in an 18 miler before the marathon. We'll see.

(as I write this - a hawk just flew down from a tree in my back yard - he's eating lunch in the snow - COOL!)

Tricia - I really like CC workouts! I have them all.

Hi to everyone else. I did Biggest Loser Last Chance workout last night. Running today.

A short post as I have to get ready to go out to see Wicked soon!

Alisha - I'm glad you enjoyed your bellydance workout and HIIT! I don't have the SC series yet, but I'm enjoying everyone's reviews!

Cindi - I couldn't help but wonder what "LSD" stands for! LOL! Don't you love watching the wildlife dine? It's so cool! I once saw a hawk swoop down and grab a squirrel right off the street as I was driving down! Amazing!

Did Step Blast tonight and some abs. Sticking with my plan to do abs as often as possible since I was such a slacker on them the late part of last year!

Have a great night everyone!

Long Slow Distance
or if you are in Chicagoland - LSD often is used to refer to Lake Shore Drive.
oh - and there IS that other LSD. :)

Tonight was a 20 minute run, then a stretch, then 5x200 jog/walk with a stop for 10 squats after each lap, then 10 minute run. So that was a good bit easier than the other day!

Hi Everyone!

Cindi ~ Thanks for the info on progression runs. It sounds like something I need to do as I often do not finish my races strong.

We used to have 2 hawks that would visit us every January and February. I loved watching them. I love watching wildlife. We have had everything from snakes to turtles to fox running around are backyard.

Tricia ~ How was Wicked?

Alisha ~ I hope you feel better. I did the 40/20 Hiit workout and loved it!! I didn't set my risers as high as Cathe did. Sometimes I have 2 left feet. :p

Hi Lisa!

I'm looking forward to working out tomorrow. I'm going to try to find something really hard.

Hope everyone has a great Friday!!!

You are welcome Jane. PM me your email and I will send you some sample runs that include progressions if you want to see how she incorporates them. :)

What's cool for me about the hawk is that we live in the suburbs and it is so neat to see wildlife here that isn't just squirrels and rabbits! One year we had a coyote in the backyard. One year we had a family of owls in the spring. I'm hoping the hawk comes back today. The cats are fascinated!

I'm resting today I hope everyone has a great weekend!
