NEW RUNNERS JANUARY 2010!!!

Hi All,

It was a bit warmer today. Yeah!! It will be in the 60's (where it should be this time of the year) by the end of the week.

Tonight I did Pyramid Lower Body. Yikes...I haven't done that workout in a while. I'm going to be hurting tomorrow. I also did about 20 swings with my 44# kb. It felt good!!

Tricia ~ Congrats on your run of workouts a day for this month!! That is awesome!!!

Waving hello to Lisa, Alisha and Cindi!

Hi everybody Tricia, Jane, Cindi, Lisa, I know I'm forgetting names but its not personal I just have forgotten

I did my 3 miles with Leslie with my ear buds in listening to another podcast. That seems to make the time fly. I did well with my eats today, in spite of the urge to fall face first into the ice cream. Instead it was 1/2 c. of plain yogurt with blueberries, yummy just the same and no guilt. :D

Hi Everyone!

I did the following workout tonight.

6 rounds: Go through 12 of each movement then 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2.

Kettlebell Snatch 12/12, 10/10, 8/8, etc.
Kettlebell Push Press 12/12, 10/10, 8/8, etc
Reverse Lunge holding the bell 12/12, 10/10, 8/8, etc
1 arm row 12/12, 10/10, 8/8, etc
Walkouts 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2

I started adding 10 swings with my 20kg bell after every exercise but by the end of the second round I was sucking air so I added 10 swing after each round. I ended up doing 140 swings.

Hope everyone had a great day! It is warming up here and will be in the low 60's tomorrow.

That's a lot of swinging Jane! How long did the workout take? Seems intense!

Alisha - good job avoiding a fall into the ice cream! Thankfully I just don't care that much for ice cream - don't even think about it. For me it's a cookie or chocolate. I found a recipe for 'instant' frozen yogurt. I tried it and it's not really the right texture but I think it would be if you put it in the freezer for an hour or ran it through an ice cream maker if you have one. You just take some greek yogurt and blend with a little sweetener of your choice and frozen berries.

Hi everyone else!

Last night I did an easy 40 minutes of running, then 10x100 strides, then 20 minutes progression run.

Hi Everyone!

This is what I have on tap for tonight. Temps are in the 60's today and will be in the 70's tomorrow! :D:D

Tonight's workout is:
Run 100 meters
10 squats, 10 push ups, 15 sit ups, 10 mountain climbers, 10 Squat Jumps, 10 swings
Run 100 meters
15 squats, 15 push ups, 15 sit ups, 15 mountain climbers, 15 Squat Jumps, 15 swings
Run 100 meters
20 squats, 20 push ups, 25 sit ups, 20 mountain climbers, 20 Squat Jumps, 20 swings
Run 100 meters
25 squats, 25 push ups, 25 sit ups, 25 mountain climbers, 25 Squat Jumps, 25 swings

Cindi ~ The workout last night took about 30 minutes or so. I guess I made it harder with all those swings. Still I was happy that I did 140 swings with my 20kg bell. That is the most swings I've done with that size. It felt good and I really felt it in my abs.

Waving hello to the rest of the gang!!!

Cindi- Thanks for the idea I will try that. I wonder if it would work with coconut yogurt.

Well, I finished the last little bit in the bottom of the Stoneyfield's pint of ice cream. But, thats it, I'm not buying anymore. I'm done. Yesterday, I did an informal inventory of what is in my pantry, and I realized I had enough gluten free cookies to have one cookie three times a week after work (very cardio intensive job at the construction site.) through June. I plan to foist some of them off on my gluten sensitive brother (he is in denial but won't be able to tell the difference.)

This morning I did Step Moves. I did the work of slowing down the video until I could understand the side exit from the up and over. For some reason I ended up on the wrong side of the board. Now I sort of get it, sort of. . .

I'm going to lunch at Fresh Choice later with my brother, we have a video consult appointment in the evening at UC Davis. It should be interesting. I like the Fresh Choice because they post on the signs what is or isn't gluten free. Bless them. That in conjunction with the 3 dollars off between 2-5 pm is awesome for a financially challenged, gluten sensitive, and insulin resistant gal like myself.

<waves hi to everybody>

Hi all!

Great workout Jane.
Alisha - gluten free has to be challenging. I'm sure it is nice to find a place like Fresh Choice!

Last night I did a Jari Love workout. Today I'm running.

Ok so much for best laid plans. We did not go to that restaurant. We were late instead and he grabbed a snack at Jack in the Box, I abstained lol. Then at the meeting I had a vitamin water and a banana. Afterwards, we went to Chevy's. I had one handful of corn chips and then the steak fajitas. I did not eat the beans/rice or the tortillas last night. I figured meat/vegg was plenty. It was a later meal than I prefer. The interesting part is, I woke up hungry. That hardly ever happens the morning after a higher calorie day. Anyway, I was good this morning, I got up had my GF cereal/coconut milk, and the leftover vegie and pinto beans from my meal at Chevy's. I plan a turkey salad for lunch and a 3 oz. burger (hold the bun) for dinner. Its a low calorie day but I'm spreading the calories out. I'm about to go for a low impact hike.

<waves hi>

I've never been to a Jack in the Box - only seen them on TV/movies. It's pretty bad food isn't it? You talk into a clown to order at the drive thru? CREEPY!

Anyway - sounds like you adapted well.

Ran about 8.5 miles today. Did 4 20 minute progression runs with a 5 minute walk after each one. It was nice to have the mix in intensity.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi ladies,
I've had a couple of busy days but I got in a walk yesterday with a friend and I'm getting ready to take the pups for a short run around the block. The plan is fun horseback riding and a walk tomorrow and a run for Sunday.

Alisha ~ Gluten-free must be really challenging. I find that days that I stick to protein and veggies I can eat all I want and wake up hungry. The carbs stick through the night though :)

Cindi ~ That sounds like a great workout! I wish I was a faster runner. 8 miles would take all afternoon (okay, at least an 1:45).

Jane ~ As always, your workout sounds fabulous. I wish there was some sort of timer that could time 2 minute intervals for more and then a one minute break. I forgot to pack my kb workouts this trip. I have my kb but no workouts and I need something to give my workout some structure.

Tricia ~ How are you doing?

Lisa

Hi Jane! I'm doing well! Just wanted to tell you that if you have an iPhone/iPod, there are a couple of interval timer apps on iTunes that are adjustable to whatever interval you want! I got one. Haven't used it yet, but I'm ready for some HIIT training now!

My workouts have been the same 'ol, same 'ol - Cathe cardio/STS etc. and yoga on Sunday. Today, though, my DH and I went for a run! Yes, I got out there in the cold (it's been a little bit warmer yesterday and today) and did 3.2 miles! I made it! I was a bit slower than I was when I quit running last October, but I made it through without a hitch. Just a very short break at 2.3 miles to blow my nose - it runs in the cold! I LOVE my new Brooks cold weather tights! They are worth every single penny he paid for them! I got them for Christmas and wore them for the first time this morning!

Anyway, I haven't checked in in a couple of days, so I'm not quite caught up on all the personals.

Good to be back! Yes, I know, a couple of days isn't much, but I miss it when I don't check in! LOL!

Have a great weekend everyone! I'm hoping this run "shocks" my body into dropping 1% body fat or something. It's just not going anywhere . . . :(

<waves hi to all who read here>

I didn't do my yoga last night. I'm about to do it now. I will do athletic step later in the afternoon, post work. I could have gone for a hike, I just didn't have the oomph this morning.

Hi Everyone!

I didn't check in yesterday but I just took a 40 minute brisk walk. I was at my parent's house all day yesterday and I was tired.

Today I'm doing Cathe's Boot Camp. I love that workout.

Lisa ~ Do you have a Gymboss interval timer. It allows you to set 2 different intervals. I use it all the time. You can go to www.gymboss and check it out. Check out this site. They have lots of great kettlebell workouts. You won't need your kettlebell dvds.

Tricia ~ I'm glad you got your run in. No running today and it is all rain. Hopefully I'll get out there tomorrow.

Hi Alisha and Cindi!

Hello everybody!

Ok, I lied, I never did Atheletic Step last night, I was just too sore. I did a jog/hike this morning then a yoga dvd. Today is my eats cheat day but I ended up cheating something I didn't mean to, I thought the waffle mix was buckwheat but it had whole wheat in there too, so I'm feeling gluten stuped, but I did take my enzymes right away so I should be ok since I'm just suspected of being gluten sensitive and was tested as celiac negative, which is good. No cancer then just GI issues. Yippee.

Ok. So the rest of the day eats wise is pretty much anything I want, within reason on portions. The interesting part is that the rest of the week I really have to watch myself but on my cheat day I could take it or leave it. It must be mental- ok I must be mental:p

Ok I lied too. I didn't do Boot Camp yesterday. I was starting to change into my workout clothes and the power went out. I couldn't go outside since it was raining so I ended up doing nothing.

I did Boot Camp this morning and might go for a short run or walk later with my sister.

Alisha ~ Glad things are better. I understand about the cheat day. I actually schedule one cheat meal a week but most of the time I don't use it. Or I'll take a cheat meal and it wasn't really good so it ends up being a wasted cheat.

Hope everyone has a great evening!

Nobody lies on this check-in! We just change our plans! Instead of yoga, my DH and I went for another run this morning! My legs and obliques are REALLY feeling it now! Ouch!

Tomorrow is Disc 16 Chest, Shoulders & Triceps. I have the day off, too! Woo-hoo! I love holidays!

Hello all,
I just did a 3 miles with a friend - we ran half and walked half. This morning I did Cardio Coach Pump. I was surprised and pleased by the workout. It is 5 cycles of two exercises each and really didn't think it would amount to much but it was fun and I had a pleasant little pump when I was done. I think I will use it on days that I can't really face lifting for more than 30 minutes but want to feel worked out. This weekend I used it because I had left all my dvds at home.

Tricia ~ I don't have an iphone but some of the apps sound neat.

Jane ~ Thanks for the links!! I absolutely want a gymboss - that may be my birthday present to myself. I used to so my own workouts all of the time but now I've gotten spoiled and don't want to count.

Alisha ~ Isn't it funny how we want what we can't have when we can't have it and when we can it isn't such a big deal? Enjoy your cheat day.

Lisa

Hi ladies! Wow - I didn't know we had so many liars in our midst. ;) Funny!

Lisa - I'm glad Jane remembered the gymboss, that's what I was thinking of but couldn't remember. They aren't too expensive if I recall correctly.

Tricia - did you lose that 1% bodyfat? I really wish I new the trick. I'm happy enough with my weight but would love to have less fat. I guess that's just part of being a girl. :)

Jane - I do better with little treats every day than a cheat meal or a cheat day. My stomach can't handle too much sugar or fat at one time.

I hope you all had great weekends. Yesterday I did a FIRM Wave workout and today ran about 6 miles. 30 minutes 'slow', 8X100 hill sprints, 15 minutes slow again.

Lisa - I've heard a lot of good things about the gymboss, too, I just forgot about it because of my spoiled self with an iPhone! I SOOO want CC Pump! You are so right about the want what you can't have, etc. My list keeps getting longer and longer.

DH is still looking for work. Can't believe it's only been one month since he lost his job. Feels like so much longer! He starts grad school on Wednesday night. Still no word on his VA educational benefits and he still hasn't gotten his first unemployment check! He has a phone interview on the 22nd, so I'm assuming he won't get anything until at the earliest the beginning of February.

Cindi - No luck so far with that 1% BF! LOL! My legs and obliques are absolutely KILLING me though! I can't remember them being quite this sore when I first started running! Guess it's because I did two steady state runs in a row! Oh well, at least I feel good about not losing much of what I had built last summer!

Hope I can get out of bed in the morning . . .

Hey - speaking of cardio coach - here's a code for 25% off the rest of January on all workouts. dietgirl
