New Runners Check-in for September 28, 2009

Janis ~ Glad you got your refrigerator issue worked out. Sorry about the dishwasher though.

Well...this Ms. Spectacular fixed her own mailbox but I would love about 5 Mr. Spectaculars!!:):)

Farmer's walk - This can be done with either a dumbbell or kettlebell. You just carry them like you would carry a pail of water and walk. I used 1 bell but it was 35#. Here's a clip:

Mr. Spectaculars are one of my favorite exercises. You can do them with either kbs or dumbbells.

Great! Thanks. I watched both videos and bookmarked mt athlete and workout iq. I'm loving all of the inspiration, ideas and resources you are providing me. I am eating it up!

I found a multi-certified kettle bell trainer in my area, when I have the funds, and I have finished rehab and sts, I am going to sign up for lessons.

I can sort of guess what bear crawls are...but I'll check out those on the two sites you provided! :D

Evening Everyone!

Jenn - Nice to hear from you! I like your idea of how to do your 1 rep max tests! How are they going?

Jane - I'm jealous of your weather! Your workout sounds great! I checked out the video clips. The farmer's walk didn't look too bad, but those Mr. Spectaculars = Yikes! Tough one! I am so easily influenced! Now, I really want KB! We have a gym here. I need to check it out and see what kind of certifications they have.

Cindi - Glad to hear your achilles is better! I think you're being smart about waiting a couple of more days.

Alisha - By psychic running, I was trying to send the run to you via ESP ;) - did you feel it? Did you sweat and feel like you had been running? Must not have worked. I'll have to try harder. (joking around, really!)

Janis - Jumping jacks is a good idea! The 5 minute walk isn't going to cut it in the cold for getting my muscles warm and ready to run. Keep trying to get me to move to CA! Maybe we'll retire there and start a small vineyard of our own! I'm glad to hear you've made some progress with your dishwasher! At least it can be fixed and you got some help with your fridge! Good for you! Have a great swim tomorrow!

I did a CC run tonight and completed a total of 4.31 miles of intervals running/walking. It always amazes me how much more ground I can cover doing intervals! It was cool, but not quite as chilly as it was on Monday! I didn't feel like cooking, so before I started my run, I texted DH and gave him 3 choices: sushi, chinese or pizza - he brought home sushi! YES!!! Great run AND sushi! All is right with the world!

Ta-ta for now! Check in again later!

Hello to Syndey, MStar and Lisa!

Alisha - I forgot to mention - I looked for you on FB, but couldn't find you! There was a Lisa Durbrow. Is that you?

Hi everyone...
I am going to make a chart with everyone on the check in so that i can do personals.... You are all so great these last 2 weeks. I hate checking in all sad and all..... so... back to running.

I have yet to jump onto my Treadmill this week... so I have a date with it tomorrow!!! maybe a 4 miler to ease back into it. I need to do it before my drs appointment because I fear she may not want me to workout for a while :( Any hoo.... If I missed a week of my running schedule, so I just forget the week or redue the week? This week was my "rest" week on my schedule and I should have run about 15 miles. If I do 4-5 tomorrow I would just be short.... or should I redu the week?

well...good night Ladies.

Hi Sydney!

Forget about it! (in my best Italian mobster accent!)

I wish 4 miles was my "easing back into it" routine! That's been my longest run, but I've only done it once! Of course, I haven't been running even a year yet!

Not an expert, but my suggestion would be to pick up where you left off if you feel good with your run tomorrow. I would definitely go with how you feel though.

Have a good night!

Hi there! I'm still around (kinda..haha). I need to go back and catch up on what I've missed. My son is doing better. He still has a little cough, but not at as bad as it was. Tonight is the first night I haven't had to run the humidifier and he didn't take the "bad tasting" cough syrup.

Ahh...my baby is awake now. DH is standing over my shoulder with her and they're staring at me. Guess I'll cut this shorter than planned.

I'll check back in again soon.
Tana

Good morning ladies. I got in a little stretching yesterday and a short run 1.5 miles before I stuffed the dogs in the car for the drive.

I got to Hatteras late last night ~ ate a lot in the car (I always do!) but none of it was crap. That's a good thing anyway right?

I have two horseback rides today so that will probably be the extent of it for me today.

Waves hi to everyone!!
Lisa

Hi Tana! Glad that your son is feeling better!

Lisa - Have a great time in Hatteras! I haven't been horseback riding in many years! Have fun!

I was trying to watch the LCROSS lunar impacts this morning with not much success! I hate when that happens!

I'm glad you're eating it up. I found out about mtn athlete on these forums. They have tough workouts but I modify them. They also have great exercises.

The thing about kettlebells is that you can get a great workout in a short amount of time. For instance the workout I did yesterday...4 exercises and 30 minutes (I shorten the time b/c I got home later) and I got a full body workout. It was both cardio and strength and because of the low reps, I got to use by 44# bell for swings. That really took the workout up a notch!

Bear Crawls ~ hands on the ground, butt in the air and off you go.

I'm glad you found a kb instructor in your area. All you need is a couple lessons and you'll be good to go!

Tana ~ Glad your son is feeling better.

Lisa ~ Have fun horseback riding.

Sydney ~ I agree with Tricia, just pick up where you left off.

Tricia ~ The waiter's walk seems like nothing but yesterday afternoon I started feeling it in my traps! Yikes!!

BBL. I have to find a workout to do tonight.

Hi everyone. No workout last night - son's band concert. I'm definitely doing something today non-running. I'm going to try an easy 3-4 miler tomorrow and see how my achilles feels. :)

Have a great weekend, I'll be back Monday.

I'm back with my workout for tonight.

Run and Swing
400m run
20 kb swings
400m run
30 kb swings
400m run
40 kb swings
400m run
50 kb swings

Cindi ~ Good luck tomorrow on your run. I'll be thinking good thoughts that your achilles is healed!

Afternoon Ladies!

Got off a little early today! Yea!

Of course, I'm misbehavin' terribly! Even though it's not raining and not too chilly, I didn't go run and I'm not planning on doing anything else! Shame on me!

I ate 3 Hershey's minis today. Shame, SHAME on me!

Somebody hit me! I'm never this bad! Just an ucky day, I guess!

Cindi - I'll be thinking of you out there running tomorrow! I'm hoping to get off my butt and do something tomorrow too!

Jane - You go girl with those kettlebells! I guess the exercises can look deceptively easy and then they sneak up on ya!

Hello everyone else!

I suppose I'll at least do some dishes and figure out dinner for tonight. That way, I'll at least feel like I've done something!

Later!

Hi Ladies

Did you see the Cahte Digital Downloads site! Hip hip hooray! I am definitely going to take advantage of this! Not sure what I would download, but it does open up possibilities and TRICIA ! this is such a great deal!!! (re:STS)

Well- I swam today, good swim = good day. Maybe a stress fracture IS a good thing! :p

Have to run now.
Have a great weekend.
:D

Hi Janis!

I know! I'm trying to figure out a way to get the whole thing, but we don't have enough hard drive space! Darn it! Maybe I can at least get STS!

I've been going nuts looking at everything and trying to decide what I want! Can't help it, I want it all!

Busy weekend! Hope your's is lovely too!

Good Morning to All!

Just noticed that we were bumped to the second page and had to put us back where we belong - on the first page!

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend!

Hey ladies!

Only one horseback ride today and spent some time on the beach with a girlfriend. Went to another friend's wedding this evening ~ she and her fiance rode their horses down the beach to the ceremony and then rode off again. Very pretty.

I had my favorite crab bisque for dinner ~ not dietitic by any stretch of the imagination but oh so good!!! I'll be better tomorrow or next week or something :).

I only have one horseback ride tomorrow so I'll probably try to get a workout or run in then.

Waves hi to everyone!!

Lisa

Sounds like a beautiful wedding!

I love lobster bisque! I didn't get any sleep last night, so I was too tired to work out today. Now it's looking like tomorrow is going to be a full day, so I doubt I'll be able to squeeze one in. Newport Vineyard for a fall harvest wine tasting at noon, late lunch, then a friend just invited us to Federal Hill for her birthday at Angelo's.

It's back on the bandwagon on Monday even though it's a holiday. We, at least, have nothing planned for that day!

Hey Everyone,

I didn't workout yesterday. My sisters and I went shopping in Jacksonville and had a great time. We haven't been out and done anything since March so it was a nice treat. Weather was HOT!!!!

Today I'm hoping to get in a 5 mile run and PUB!

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!!

Hi Jane!

I love Jacksonville! My Mom lives there. Wish it were hot here, or at least still warm! We have finally started dipping into NE fall temps - low 60s to upper 50s. We're trying not to turn the heat on for a while yet, too! I'd like to be able to manage at least until Thanksgiving, if not December before having to use it! I'm usually a whimp when it comes to the cold, but I'm going to try and be brave! If I were still in the South, it wouldn't be a problem!

Glad you had a wonderful day with your sisters! Have a good workout today!

We're off to Newport Vineyards soon!

It's been pretty quiet on the forum this weekend! I hope that's a sign of good things and fun times for everyone!

Hi everyone!
I did one horseback ride today and then a short run (about 2.5 miles). I may try to do push/pull or supersets this afternoon depending on how I feel. My hip flexors and adductors are feeling a little stiff.

A girlfriend is running a 5K next weekend and I said I'll run it with her. My running has been a little spotty lately and I've been doing mostly intervals with Cardio Coach but I'll just go ahead and muddle through it. I am going to try to do a couple of longer runs this week though.

I'm VERY excited about the downloadable workouts. I like the DVDs but the down loads put a lot of things within a reasonable price range. I'm wondering what the best workout is for body part splits? Gym Style, Slow and Heavy, or something else? I have good full body and upper/lower splits but would like something that targets each body part a little more. I looked at 4-day Split but I wouldn't use any of the cardio/kick boxing/step portions.
