My only problem with STS

My DH has been working out with me since the beginning and in honesty, he says to me constantly that the only person he seriously watches is Cathe. Her form is superb and she never cheats. :) I think guys who are not into working out at home will not work out at home regardless of the gender of the people standing behind the instructor IMHO. :)

I dug back through the blog - the "poser" is unfortunately -- Greg.
But I still love Robert. He's cute. (I prefer dark haired guys anyway)

Although Greg does have a great, well-balanced body!

Yes, then it is Greg! I went and got my Cathe Calendar and in every photo he looks like he's all that.

Perhaps it is just his style.

My favorite is Eric by far. That is because I find him very attractive.

Have you ever seen Pumping Iron? I watched it to see if I could pick up an Arnie pointers, but I have never seen such bad form in my life! If I did lifting that way, I'd end up in the hospital! I am so careful about form, I find it physically painful to watch bad form and shout to the screen "keep your back straight, doofus!" In general, I have heard that women are much more careful about form, whereas men are more careful about showing off how much they can lift!

Eric is my favorite. Although, I think my son is the same age:eek:

I'm not bothered by any of the guys. I think they are all pretty cute.;) I'm usually looking at Cathe or in the mirror at myself.

Bad form from Arnold?
I bought the anniversary addition to Pumping Iron. I love Arnold's cocky attitude. DH and I are huge Arnie fans:)

I like the movie Pumping Iron: The Women. It's very interesting from the perspective of the birth of women's weight lifting and all that. It's also funny when you consider how the women looked then versus how they look now. Those women then would just be considered fitness models now (some, not even). It's a good movie.

I'm surprised you guys think Greg acts as though he's 'all that.' I just think he's a fit dude who looks like he's working hard. But he also looks like he's enjoying himself. That's what I love about Cathe and her crew - they all look as though they are working hard, but they look like they're having fun while doing so.

But that's just my opinion.

I agree with you.

I don't mind at all having the guys. Nice to have some eye candy we women can enjoy!
I do have to laugh sometimes when I notice what light dumbells they use. I've noticed in several exercises, I'm lifting heavier weights than they are! But I just chalk it up to Girl Power is all about endurance & toughing it out to the end. Guy power is spectacular but short-winded. ;) Maybe they'll use heavier in Mesocycle 2 & 3 when the reps are fewer.

Which guy are some of you ladies opposed to? Is it Greg? He gets the most screen time, but I personally think that's because he has the most endurance and best form. I like him. I like Robert a lot, too (dimples!). And Stuart - he makes me smile during the leg workouts - he really looks like he's feeling it! I like Erik, too, but he isn't in many of the workouts. When I workout, I am typically so busy setting up equipment or trying not to trip over my own feet (I'm sooo uncoordinated!), I don't get to look at the screen much. Which is why I preview. A lot.

Wait, there are 4 guys??!! LOL, I really thought there were only 2. I guess I never noticed that, to your point, I'm so rarely looking at the screen after watching Cathe set up that I've probably lost a lot of nuances.

men

Hi all,

I have a kind of funny story. DS, who is 19, is working out and asked me what he could do the other day and I said that there are plenty of Cathe's down there. He said, "Look I don't like working out with a woman that can lift more weight and do more reps than I can." I'm like OK.......So I set him up with a competitor:(

Maybe he would be more apt to do STS since the men are definitely lifting lighter than Cathe:) Unfortunately, Cathe's still in the front lifting away.

I can honestly say, I rarely critisize any of Cathe's products and this surely is not about the quality of the product, just the choice of asthetics. I'm glad that I don't look up much when I workout because I hate to say, but the men in the series are by far my biggest criticism; their age, their looks, the weights they use, their form, their grimaces with light weights. Really this is just personal preference, but I like to workout with participants that really workout. I'm not convinced that all of the men do.

Otherwise, I have no complaints, I'm glad that I can look past the participants, and will start week 5 of the 6 month rotation next week.

To me keeping my shoulders safe is far more important than opening wide.

Keeping the arms locked in position doesn't mean "opening wide" or putting excess stress on the shoulders. I am VERY careful of my shoulders when I work out.

It just means not changing the bend in the arm during the move. You will not be able to lift as much weight this way vs if you bent the arms more at the bottom of the move, but the flye is supposed to be an isolation move, which would mean one would go lighter than with presses anyway. ;)

Which man cops the 'tude and acts like he's all that?

I think I know the one, but I don't know his name.

He is in almost all the STS calendar shots at the calendar's beginning except for the big one.
I think it's Greg.
I noticed that many of his photos in the calendar all look like the same pose!

Those women then would just be considered fitness models now (some, not even). It's a good movie.
I have that movie as well.
Gladys Portuguese and Rachel McLish were my first role models for weight training, and I still find that look (especially Gladys, or Rachel in off season) attractive.

As someone else suggeted in another forum: it shows that big muscle is not always useful muscle.

Now I'm going to have to watch more carefully! I am among those of you who are so busy changing weights that we don't have time to really notice!

As someone else suggested in another forum: it shows that big muscle is not always useful muscle.

Kathryn, this must have been from the kettlebell forum, as they're often touting the "quality of quantity" of your muscle!

After I finish STS I plan on starting ETK. By then it will be summer and I'll be traveling (driving trips only) so I can take my workouts on the road. I miss it, but I know I have to focus on one thing at a time!
