My hair costs a fortune!

Heck, . . I'm with Debbie on this one. That is a lot of money!!! Thankfully I could give a rip what my hair looks like let alone pay such an excessive amount to cut it or color it. Shoot I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I spent that much on my hair not when I think about how much groceries that could buy but heck more power to you if you can afford something like that.

Lol, Suz, I think that is the definition of insanity! :p:D

Thankfully, I don't have to get anything done to me hair... well, at least I don't want anything done to it. I don't care too much about color or what's in style, because I am totally not cool at all. ;) I also hate the maintenance. When I start getting grays I may start getting it colored, but I will wait to see if it's that pretty silver gray or that yellow stuff before I do any coloring. But, with that said, I pay $65 for a cut and style every 4 months from the only person who truly understands my wild and thick hair - at least, she is the only one in our area in the past 8 years who hasn't botched it up and made it look like a horror movie. (I used to drive to Chicago to get it done, but my girl moved away.)

Missy

Missy - Yes, I'm a little insane. ;) And you have beautiful hair, so I wouldn't touch it if I were you either!

El cheapo here

Ok, so how much does your hair cost? I went to Vidal Sassoon yesterday and dropped $230! Again! The haircut was 80 bucks, and the **gorgeous** highlights were $150!!

I know, I know, totally a fortune, but if I go to my local salon the grand total would be $160 (cut =60, color=100), and it wouldn't look near as good as this does. At the local salon, you can see where the color stops and starts, it doesn't look natural at all, it's sort of "chunky". Plus, they have trouble mixing two colors, so its lowlights and highlights.

I have light brown-ish red/dark blonde hair (as a kid I was a natural blonde) so I get highlights to punch it up, plus hide the gray (I'm pushing 50). At least, the highlights I only do twice a year....Who cares about the cost of gas, I gotta keep my hair looking good! :D I live in Northern Virginia too, so everything costs an arm and a leg, but jeepers it's expensive!

I spend $12.00 tops for a haircut if I don't have a coupon. They do a fine job a the walk-in salons around where I live. I could never pay that much -- that's almost my budget for Xmas gifts!!!!

BEIN' BALD IS DA BOMB!!!!!!

A-Jock

And it is apparently much cheaper! ;)
I must be lucky, I never heard of paying over $150 for color at a salon, not even when visiting with the master stylist (unless you are in a metro area like NY). I think if I was tempted to throw away $200 on my hair I'd think twice and donate that disposable income to a soup kitchen, where people really need it. ;)

Wow. I colour my own hair and haven't had it cut in months because I can't afford it. I won't go to a cheap walk-in place because I've had awful cuts in the past from those, but I can't fork out the cash to get my regular stylist to cut it either, so it's shaggy and gross. Oh well. Who am I trying to impress anyway?

I just got mine cut last week... $16. I only get it cut every few months. It's long, curly, and has a mind of it's own. No matter what anyone does, it does it's own thing. :p I can't wear it shorter or it gets ridiculous.

Thankfully no coloring yet, although I am getting a few greys that I don't enjoy. My hair is sort of an auburn (used to be redder as I was younger) so I think it will be hard to color, I'll probably go for highlights but around here $50 is about the most expensive.

Enjoy your new 'do!

I don't spend anything since I cut it myself. I got it cut at the stylist about a month ago and she didn't do what I asked. Sometimes it's hard to tell until after they dry it. So I cut it on Saturday and I have to say I'm much happier with my own cut and I can't beat the price.

$27.00 for the trim and $5.00 tip. So $32.00 4X per year. I've thought about getting highlights/lowlights but don't want the maintenance.

Ok, I'm feeling much better about what I spend (because I thought it was a lot). My cuts run $38 (every 5-6 weeks) and when I have a weave (every 3rd cut or so) it is $100-120 depending on how many colors and how intricate we go. Of course, I live in a town of 100k people... If I were in a metro area, I'm guessing it would be more! WOW!

But, I don't think I, or any of the others that spend $$ on their hair, are throwing their money away. And the stylists and colorists really need to make a living too. Capitalism makes the world go round! :D

Also meant to add, I do give money to charities: the Humane Society, SPCA, and no-kill animal shelter in town. >^..^<

My hair turned a dull, mousy, brown before I began to get a few grays. So, I have this horrible color that looks like death next to my fair skin. Not attractive at all. :( I've been told, that it is very common for the hair to change colors before graying.
Mine sure did. I was born with dishwater blonde hair and my head gradually turned squirrel brown between age 35-40. I think I finally got a single silver hair (I quizzed my co-workers but they all said I was crazy...) but I'm very good at hitting the roots regularly. I've been a "red" head now for about ten years and it's really livened up my white skin.

Know what? I use Nice and Easy Golden Blonde on my eyebrows because I started getting so many WHITE hairs I had to stop pluckin 'em out... And the lighter shade on my eyebrows looks so much better than the original natural dark brown I wish I'd been dying them all along.

Keep trying. A lot of those stylists are amazing but it can take going through a few to find a good one.

I'm not against coloring, cutting, or otherwise manipulating & enhancing hair at all, at least not for philosophical reasons. But I have recently decided to let my color grow out and see what my normal, probably mostly grey, hair looks like.

I've tried less expensive hair places for YEARS, and finally found someone who can cope with my wildly unruly, thick, curly, coarse, impossible hair, which occasionally gets its own ideas about what it would like to do and where it would like to do it. It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that it comes alive at night. Actually, it would explain a lot.

So I get it cut for 35-50 dollars every three months or so and that's it.

Now I can splurge on REALLY fabulous-smelling Aveda shampoo & conditioner! I LOOOOOOOOOVE it when my hair smells all Aveda-y and wonderful!

Another one that never use to spend a fortune but I realized my friend wasn't listening to me so I did go elsewhere. I do hate to spend it but I am growing it out, it is shoulder length and I am hereditary grey since 20 years old. The most I spent here in Oldsmar was $230 I literally was stunned but it was the absolute best I ever had but we just can not afford that every 4-6 weeks.

I am a HUGE product Junkie I have tried everything under the sun and just had a system in Michigan now I am here in Florida and have had to start all over, I also have my nail tech liscense so I save a ton.

One thing I did learn was to put a mask (Redken Real Control Intense Renewal) in and leave it in all night and rinse it in the morning and style, a little getting use to but my hair is amazingly soft. I use the Kenra Sulfate Free line as well as another poster but it feels so gross until I put the conditioner in but my red in the back has lasted 4 full weeks it is so bright and brilliant still. I also use a small round brush to get amazing fullness (but the humidity here kills it as soon as you walk outside). I have also stopped washing my hair everyday I try to make it 3 days.

I don't think it's anyone's place to judge people for what they spend their "disposable" income on without knowing how much money people make and how many charities people support. And even if they did know those things, it's still not their place to judge.

I, for one, color my own hair and only get haircuts 3 times a year that cost me $45. Not that it's anyone's business. ;)

Why do you think it's "throwing away" your money? Sometimes I think people just don't realize how much looking professional and put-together can enhance their careers. I swear: looking the part is half the battle! And when you're doing well in your career, you make more money, which means you can afford to give a lot more to your favorite causes, and do a lot more of the things you love. :) And it's not just for people who deal with the public, either. Looking polished and tasteful is something that is always noticed, whether by bosses, co-workers or otherwise. It somehow conveys the idea that you're good at what you do, whether or not it's true! ;)

I think we can all choose where we want to spend the money. I probably spend my disposable income on things others would never dream of.

I am surprised I could type this, the darn kitten has been attacking me.
