My 7 year old...oh the horror....

>I probably would have asked her to explain to me what she
>meant by the obscene breakfast gesture. I would have probed
>her calmly but directly about why she did it, where she'd seen
>it, what it meant to her, the reaction she hoped to get, how
>others would perceive her actions, etc. My goal would have
>been to make her THINK about what she'd done and why so that
>she could make her own decision about whether it was
>appropriate. My "talking to her" about the appropriateness/
>inappropriateness of her actions wouldn't evoke as strong of a
>response as if she came to those conclusions herself. Also,
>engaging her in this thought-process action would help her to
>develop her own inner dialog with stuff like this in the
>future so that she'd "think twice" before adopting an
>undesirable behavior.

This is really good advice. I think doing this at 7 is better than doing it at 12. Good luck Donna.

I also wanted to say that it's not easier to raise boys. I was a very bad girl until I was 16 and then my brother took my place being bad when he was 15 and older.

I got my kids a cell phone after I spent too much of my time sitting and waiting for the school bus to bring them back from whatever activity they were in. It got old. So they had the cell phone to call me when they were almost back. But that was Sophmore year for my boy, and 7th grade for my girl(only because she got his hand me down when he got a special one for his 18th b-day).

:7 :7 :7 LOL I had to laugh after reading your post Donna. Your DD is 7... well my daughter is 13. I'm going to either pull my hair out or pull hers. Now She wants a Louis Vuitton book bag for back to school. WHAT!

So that's how your school shopping went, Robin? Yikes! Gina (5) is into very long, very dressy floor-length skirts. Oh, and she wanted a wallet.

Last week her and her sis wanted to talk about babies being born. We usually use the word "crotch" but I used vagina and penis and they think those are the funniest words they've ever heard. I heard them in th tub tonight squealing those words having a grand time. Cracked me up. I half wanted to tape them so they could hear themselves in 20 years.

I'm sure I have a lot to look forward to and/or dread.

Thanks for all the laughs tonight!

Wow that is so hard for me to imagine a 7 yera old doing. Have you thought about her friends and just what they talk about alone?? she had to have learned that somewhere, My 8 year old is developmental delayed so he is still so inocent to things like that, he still acts like a toddler. he does mimick things he does see and hear. I was shocked when he learned he had a weanie LOL and he talked about his weaner LOL. never heard that at home.
