Made it through my surgery...thanks for all the support

DB1

Cathlete
Thank you so much for your support. I am still very out of it, and in quite a bit of pain. Will be able to have some water in an hour or so. The weird thing is, I remember something hurting so badly, and I woke up crying. He said it is totally normal to wake up crying. Anyone else done that?

Thanks again you guys for everything. I will try not to be such a full-time lurker especially since I have been here for years.

Cheers and thanks again!

Rhonda

So glad everything went okay.

I had oral surgery a long time ago and I got sick in the car on the way home. When I woke up, I kept whining that I wanted to go back to sleep. The nurse kept yelling at me to stay awake.

Hope you get better soon!!

Rhonda, I'm so glad it's over for you. Glad you have come out of hiding. It's been nice to "see" a bunch of new faces lately. Take it easy healing and we look forward to seeing you around.

Hi Rhonda,
I woke up crying too. My Mom wanted to know what was wrong I told her the Nurse punched me. I think I was just dreaming I am sure she didn't touch me. Anyway, glad it is over and done with. Rest and take care of yourself.

I always wake up crying after being put under. I wonder if it is because I am always so worried about the anesthesia and it is such a relief to wake up and know it is over? ;)

I am glad it went well for you and that it is over!!!

RE: Made it through my surgery...thanks for all the sup...

Hi all,
I am doing so much better today! I just took ibuprofen hoping to give up the Vicodin today. I am still swollen like a chipmunk, but at least that horrible infected tooth and tissue is gone :)

Linda and Susan, sorry you woke up crying, but it makes me feel not so alone. It was the strangest thing. They said most people ask when they are going to get started when they wake up, but I woke up knowing I was done, just sobbing like a baby. I am sure they had a good laugh after I left. Heck, I would have laughed at me :)

So now I am dreaming about working out again. I usually workout 5-6 days a week, definitely a Cathe devotee. I am going to ask tomorrow if I can at least start lifting weights by the weekend. I have been getting great results with the Pyramids. Finally lost 6 of the 12 lbs when I added those to my rotation. They rock!

Anyway, thanks again for the kind words and wishes. Here's to our next Cathe workout;-)

Susan,

That's too funny! :)

Don't let this experience scare you off of future oral surgery. As the Queen of All Things Dental, I've had lots of oral surgeries, and the only painful one was the wisdom tooth removal. (Even so, I remember that I lost 10 unwanted lbs. when my wisdom teeth were removed, and kept them off permanently. Not bad.) I know you're in a lot of pain now, but, as my Jewisha mama always tells me, the mouth heals VERY quickly, and in a few days you'll forget the whole thing! :D

Hi Rhonda,
Glad you're okay and dreaming of working out! I was wishing you well in my thoughts...I didn't post before because my wisdom teeth experience was not very nice...

ps forgive me if I missed it, I'd love to hear about your 'rotation' with the pyramids..

RE: Made it through my surgery...thanks for all the sup...

Hi Joy,

Sorry to hear your wisdom teeth experience was not good. If it was anything like the infection I had, I know what you went through. I was in so much pain with that infection that even after 3 shots of novacaine, 4 ibuprofen, and 1 vicodin, it only took the edge off the pain!! It was unreal.

As far as my rotation goes, I love both cardio and weights. I was doing Imax, running, and things like bootcamp, etc. with ME and Power hour. I had gained about 12 lbs. in 2001, and believe or not, was not able to lose and ounce no matter what I tried. You must know that I am a fairly clean eater by nature. I love vegetables and eat them all day long. I am not much into sweets (that's why this pudding, ice-cream, yogurt thing for the next 2 days is killing me:) and don't like bread. Not a low carb thing, just have never liked bread. Anyway, over X-mas hubby bought me the Pyramids as they were the only piece of the Intensity Series I didn't pre-order. I was watching some program on Fit-tv where a personal trainer had mentioned that weight training should be 75% of conditioning, obviously leaving cardio at 25%. I had always been about 50-50. I started using the Pyramids 1 time a week each, with ME, and another lower body workout such as the new Legs and Glutes. Since I have started this, I have lost almost 6 pounds without modifying my diet one bit. It is the only thing that has helped me over the hump. Even a Slow and Heavy rotation didn't work for me. It is something about those Pyramids that really works! It has been hard for me to cut back on cardio because I love it so much, but I do make sure I get 2 or 3 full hour sessions of cardio a week. Seems to be working so far :) I am 5'-8" and 144#. I look my best at about 135-138. I am hoping this rotation will get me there. That's about it. Hope this is helpful to you.

So....do you have a frozen-pea-filled-bra wrapped around your head right now??? ;-)

Glad everything went well!

RE: Made it through my surgery...thanks for all the sup...

As a matter of fact...just took it off :)

RE: Made it through my surgery...thanks for all the sup...

Hi DB1,
Thanks for your rotation information. Yes that was very informative. I'm going to mull it over and see if I can handle it. That much weight work might burn me out - especially the legs (I have skinny legs and a small behind.) It is always my legs that are the limiting factor in my cardio workouts - especially step.

I wish I would lose my interest in sweets and bread. :9

Take it easy! Take your pain meds as needed. That's what they are for and remember, chipmunks are beautiful!

I'm sure no on laughed at you! Anesthesia is tricky and people respond differently. I'm usre they've seen it all.

Susan, could have been worse. You might have woken up thought the nurse punched you and punched her back!

RE: Made it through my surgery...thanks for all the sup...

Hi Kathy S.,
I was just joking about the bra, but I have been tying the heat pad to my head with an ace bandage. My arms are sore from holding up the ice packs every 20 mins.(graduated to heat yesterday). Still very swollen, but went to the Doc yesterday and he said I was progressing well for the difficult surgery that I went through. Still have to sleep with my head propped up at night, can't wait to fully lay down again!

Bobbi you're right, he said many times people wake up crying. He told me he had to put extra meds in my IV because of the tough time they were having with the infected tooth and the really difficult time they had with the impacted tooth. He said that they had to be a bit rough on me to get the impacted tooth out, it was very stubborn! All of this combined probably triggered my crying incident.

I am just a bit antsy to start working out and get moving again. It is hard for me to lay around and watch tv and read magazines! I am watching fit tv just dreaming of the moment when I can join in the fun :)

Hi Rhonda!

Well, I figured you guys were kidding about the pea-filled bra, but on the other hand it does seem like a phenomenally creative idea! :) I like your idea of Ace-bandaging the heating pad to your jaws too. Hope it's helping.

It sounds like you're healing very nicely and that your doc is right on top of this. Try not to be impatient with yourself and enjoy your recuperation. It's a great time to catch up on books you've been meaning to read, or maybe letters you've been meaning to write. Or take this time to organize your fitness notebook and plan out a rotation for the next 4 to 6 weeks. Just don't jump back into anything until your doc gives you clearance, 'cause your body's been through an ordeal and probably needs a little more TLC than we Catheites are prone to giving our hard-working bodies. :)

I'm really glad to hear you're starting to feel better! Keep us posted, okay?

RE: Hi Rhonda!

Hi Kathy,
When I had my wisdom teeth out 5 years ago, I actually DID put small bags of frozen peas in the cups of my bras and or bikini tops, and tied them at the top of my head. It was perfect, and I had very minimal swelling.

:)
