Lurkers Invitation For The Holidays

janiejoey

Cathlete
Welcome Lurkers,

Hope you found your way to this thread OK. Just want to welcome you all.

Once you post here, I guess you won't be lurkers anymore, but will use this name for now.

A little about my family. I have a husband, who I call my Joey, two cats and a dog. One cat is Winkle who is diabetic and has two shots a day. The other is Higgin, who is a calico and very independent, but she has a great personality. They both have been rescued about 5 or so years ago. Our dog Rolly is two years old and just got him this year from the shelter in May.

Joey and I have been retired more than 16 years now and consider ourselves intermediate to some advanced workouts. We've been working out with Cathe for many years.

Today I walked with Rolly. Tomorrow I'll be doing weight training.

Again, welcome to this thread.

Janie

I redircted jldx response over here. Seems we were messaging at the same time.

At Pam's invitation (and I guess at the title of this thread too), I am accepting your offer to join in your group if you will have me.

I am pretty shy so this is quite the attempt to come out of my shell here!

I also don't know what is expected of being in a check-in group. I can probably post most weekdays but weekends would be iffy since I sometimes get busy (or lazy) and don't get on the computer at all. During the week, I can post from work most of the time if I am not too busy.

I guess I will start off by telling everyone a little about myself. I have been married to Jason for 10 1/2 years. We have two wonderful dogs (seen in my avatar) that we treat more like kids than pets. Oscar is the brown dog and he is a 10 1/2 year old boxer. Maggie is a 7 (?) year old black lab/pit mix. We got Oscar as a puppy from a breeder but rescued Maggie from a shelter 2 years ago.

My fitness background is not that great. During my teens it was non-existent. In my 20s it was iffy. I pretty much looked at working out as a means to an ends. When I wanted to lose weight, I worked out; otherwise, no thank you. Starting at the beginning of this year (just before turning the big 3-0), I began working out for health reasons as a primary goal and losing weight secondary. Now that I have been consistently working out for 10 months, I just don't know what took me so long to see that working out is essential to feeling good not just looking good. I began working out just on my own doing whatever I could think of (jumping jacks, running in place, etc.). Then I started doing DVDs by Jillian Michaels. After a few months of doing the same DVDs, I got bored and saw Basic Step by Cathe on Amazon. I bought a used copy for $5 and have been hooked ever since (probably since April). In fact, I had to shamefully admit to my husband that our credit card bill was a little bigger than normal lately because of my new found addiction to Cathe. Luckily my husband is pretty supportive of my addiction. :D Hopefully he will continue to be supportive when I give myself a Christmas present of STS and the tower!

Well that's my story. I look forward to making friends here and getting more great tips from people who are much more knowledgeable than I am.

Thanks for letting me join in!

jldx,

jldx
, Welcome aboard! It is so nice to meet you. I know what you mean about being shy, but, you are not alone.

We usually post during the weekday and sometimes during the weekend, whatever your schedule is. We'll be here when you are ready for us. No pressure.

Your animals sound perfect, I treat our animals like kids too. They are worth it.

Congratulations for wanting a healthy life style. We all are doing what we can too, to be healthier. That's a constant goal I hang on to. Good for you! What a nice Christmas gift to have (STS and the tower). It's so cool that your husband is supportive in your health.

I'm looking forward to knowing you as well. You are going to find out that these ladies are very supportive and full of knowledge, funny and just simply wonderful people.

Thank you for joining us,

Janie

Just copying my post from the other Lurkers Thread over here....

jldx2in2000 Welcome! We would love to have you join us. It looks like Janie must've missed your post as I see she is going to get us started on a new thread so I guess we will have to be moving over there. We were all shy lurkers at one point but have become friends and this is a very supportive group. There are really no expectations - you post when you can and don't post when you can't. Some of us try to post every day and others tend to pop in once in awhile. The main thing is that we really help to keep each other motivated and inspired with our workouts.

I have a special place in my heart for Boxers and I hope to have another one again some day when our schedules are more dog friendly. My DH had one that he had gotten as a puppy and he was just the sweetest thing. I've really started to love pugs lately too though as some friends have one that I have fallen in love with. There must be something about those smushed faces because I have 2 persian cats now

I couldn't agree with you more about working out being essential to feeling good. I sometimes worry that I have a problem because I start getting really anxious if I miss more than a couple of days in a row. Welcome to the world of Cathe, she is amazing, isn't she? You weren't kidding when you said you've developed a bit of a habit - I looked at the list of Cathe dvds that you own! You have built up quite the collection in only 10 months, wow I love STS and am thinking I am going to be needing the tower sometime soon too!

Janie Looks like we should start posting in the other thread now? I'll go over there and write something soon. I did put on invitation inside one of the threads on the Open Discussion because there was a comment about not knowing how to join a checkin or even if you could join a check in already in progress. As you can see, jldx2in2000 decided to join us! I like the holiday theme - a very important time to stay motivated!

I'm glad to hear Rolly is doing so well. Hopefully the little set back was just one small glitch and that is all behind you. It's cute that he feels so attached to you.
It sounds like the Retin A is really doing it's job for you. You definitely need to keep us posted - we may all need to go get some! Wow, you make your own moisturizer too - you are truly amazing!

Are you guys going to be continuing with STS or was this just a meso 1 rotation? I'm starting to think it might be time for another STS rotation myself. Maybe your STS/Insanity rotation......Your children are all so successful, you must be extremely proud. Of course that says a lot for the job that you did as parents as well!

Pam

Added note - don't forget to subscribe to this new thread!

Pam, Thank you for posting on the new thread and helping out with the transitions to this thread. This will help the newbies find us easier.

Because Joey is particular about workouts, we won't be doing STS for awhile, but maybe in the future. It was a great start doing Meso 1 though, and got caught up in intense exercises again. I'll be cheering you on when/if you do STS/Insanity rotation. It's very effective. Thank you for the parent compliment, that makes me feel good.

Have a great day jldx (our new member) and everyone else. Hope to see other new and not so new members soon.

Janie

Copied my thread over to here too. I think this is a good idea. My turkey dinner starts this Sunday since it is our Thanksgiving this weekend. I am going to need all the help I can get :D

Pam That's too funny about the three of you. Your DH travels a lot. Does he go to Germany the most? I am looking forward to the yoga class. I will let you know how it was. Eunice still hasn't got her stuff yet!!!!! Hasn't it been over a month since they moved? They bring a dumpster in about every six months. One of our neighbours has a truck and he helps us get everything there. It is amazing how much stuff you can accumulate. So it looks like your mother's cottage sold. Does she still have a lot of stuff at the cottage that you need to move? It was nice to have the Friday's off but the day was just too long. Tomorrow is my last flex day and next week will be my last week of long hours. It is nice though since this is our Thanksgiving long weekend I have 4 days off . Step Moves is a fun workout. I don't think I will look into getting Insanity. I really don't think I will like the workouts at all.

jldx2in2000 Yes we will accept you into our group. It looks like Janie has also started another Luker's Invitation. It looks like we will all start posting over there now. This thread is getting pretty long. Don't worry about being shy. I lurked for 12 - 13 years before I started posting . Now I post almost every day. Post when you can, I know things come up and you can't get to the computer all the time. I agree with you that working out does make you feel good. I put my back out last week and I haven't really been working out besides doing some stretching. I am really missing that feeling you get when you workout. Tomorrow I will be able to get back into it. Wow but you have been busy collecting Cathe's DVDs. Nice that your husband is supportive your your addiction (but it is a good additiction). My DH just rolls his eyes when I get new workouts and says "don't you have enough already?" We all help each other out and give encouragement. Come join us over at Lurkers Invitation for the Holidays.

Janie You have really been able to do a lot of walks with Rolly. I am glad that he hasn't been doing his business in your house. I have never used Retin A but I have heard good things about it. Oooh to look 10 years younger, that would be nice. It was nice getting that day off but now that I have moved to a different building my day is now 1/2 longer and that seems to make a hugh difference. It didn't seem like I had any me time any more . I don't know how people with kids do it. I used to run during my lunch hour many years ago too but I found that even after a shower I wouldn't stop sweating for hours. I always eat at my desk and then during my lunch break I go for a walk. Wow your son is an Emergency Dr......they have to be sooooo patient with everything they need to deal with.

Well no workout for me today since we were getting rid of a lot of junk. Ordered in pizza today too . Back to the healthy eating tomorrow.

Cheryl

Good morning ladies and Happy Friday to everyone!
Janie At least you got Joey to do meso 1. I think my DH would enjoy STS, but I would never be able to get him up early enough to do it with me!

Cheryl I forgot it was your Thanksgiving this weekend,Happy Thanksgiving! I love turkey dinners! It sounds like you are in charge of the turkey this year, but hopefully everyone is pitching in with dishes for the meal? My DH's whole family is coming here for Thanksgiving this year so we will have a crowd.
DH has been to Germany a lot this year because they have had a lot of conferences there. He has been in Boston all week and just got home last night and now is leaving for Germany tomorrow. Hopefully after that he will get to stay home for awhile..
It's been close to 6 weeks since Eunice moved and they still don't have their stuff. I think I would be going crazy! Yes my mother's cottage sold. She has a TON of stuff. She has owned it for 49 years and she and my sister are both pack rats. My sister took a lot of stuff to the cottage to store when she moved so I have no idea what all is there. She doesn't have anywhere to put stuff here so I am going to really push her to get rid of stuff but it won't be easy. She just doesn't like to throw anything away. Luckily she has been giving away some of the furniture as we have relatives close by.
I know some people do love Insanity but if you just ask me I wouldn't recommend it. The workouts are definitely effective but in my opinion are very repetitive and just don't have any fun factor - it is just work. I think I've also been spoiled by doing rotations where you don't do the same workout more than once during the month. With the insanity rotations you do the same workout twice in the same week as there are only 4-5 workouts that you keep repeating for the entire month's rotation. I think Janie has the right idea that they really need to be mixed into something else like STS rather than just doing an entire insanity rotation.

Of course after saying all of that, this morning I did Insanity pure carido! The nice thing is you get a really good workout in in only 38 minutes. I made it through all but the last minute without taking a break. After during a minute of suicide jumps I just couldn't get through that last minute without a break. Oh well. Have a great Friday everyone! We are supposed to have a beautiful weekend - mid 80's and sunny! Hooray! :D

Pam

Good morning everyone! I just realized that I never said what my name is. So anyway, my name is Julie if you would rather refer to me as that than jldx.

My day started out semi-good. I did Kick Max this morning. It was really hard to get out of bed this morning but I convinced myself to do it since it is Friday and I can sleep in the next two days. So after a good workout, I drove 45 minutes into work, parked my car, and realized I left my badge to get into the building at home. That meant I had to go in through Security and be issued a bright yellow badge of shame to wear. The bright side is I am only here until 11 today!

Janie What kind of dog is Rolly? I think rescuing animals from shelters is the best. We got Oscar from a breeder and Maggie from a shelter and love them both dearly but there is something about knowing that you saved your new best friend from a lonely life in a shelter. I think it is amazing that your husband works out with you. Mine may support my healthy habits of working out and eating clean but he really doesn't want any part of it. He is at that stage where he says he wants to enjoy life and will worry about getting healthy once it becomes a problem for him. I tried telling him that by the time it becomes a problem it may be too late and if not it is definitely going to be harder to get in shape. I am hoping that once I get STS and he sees my strength gains, he might change his mind.

Pam Boxers are fun! Oscar is getting up there in age which is really scary but he still acts like a playful puppy. All he wants to do is play, play, play. I understand about the scrunchy faces. My sister has a French Bulldog and there is just something about wanting to take his face in my hands and give him unending kisses! :p I know what you mean about missing workout days. The other night, I told Jason I was tired and wanted to go to bed early and he told me I should just take the next day off from working out! I laughed and said ok that sounds like me! ;) He was trying to be helpful but doesn't fully understand since he doesn't workout.

Cheryl Sorry to hear about your back! I hate injuries but stretching is always nice. I love Sundays which is usually my day off. I always do 1 or 2 segments from Stretch Max and take a nice hot bubble bath. It is so relaxing! I am glad to see you will be able to get back into workouts though. They sure do wonders for your mind and body! That's funny about your DH rolling his eyes. Mine actually made a comment the other day that he hadn't seen the UPS guy in a long time and wondered why!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Did Push & Pull today. It was a sweat fest.:D It's rainy today and will take Rolly for a walk in it after I digest breakfast. Rolly is more himself lately, he is chasing kitties and going around our house like a maniac. And he went outside to pee and poo. Last night for the first time he asked to go out! By fidgeting away from the leash. I asked if he wants to go potty and he practically pulled me through the doggie door with him! Things are looking up indeed.

Cheryl, Have a wonderful time with your family this early Thanksgiving weekend. I love that when you fit each other in. That's what we do also during Christmas if everyone can't make it then we celebrate when everyone can. Enjoy your pizza, you well deserve it with all that furniture move.

Pam, One of these days I'll convince him to start off with Meso 2. I think he'll like that one better. Great job on the Insanity. Whew! You have to be really dedicated to do just Insane workouts. Like you, it's great to use them as cardio and with rotations.

Worknprogress, Welcome Aboard! It's really nice to meet you one on one. Glad you meandered this way and joined our group. Can't wait to get to know you better.

Julie, Great job on KM. I know how you feel about getting a temporary badge, same thing happened to me at Boeing, many years ago. It must be nice to work a half day.:)

Rolly is part chihuahua and an unknown terror. He's very smart, and he loves me with his whole being. We can't be separated without him crying.:( When I have to go to the store I put him in a crate with water and goodies, and a toy, then put a blanket over the crate so he can just relax. He seems fine when I do that and calms down right away.

Oscar and Maggie are very lucky pups to get parents like you guys.:D

I agree, once your husband sees you working hard and gaining wonderful curves he may want to join you. I hope so anyway. Here's to health!

Have a wonderful Friday everyone,

Janie

Pam I love turkey dinners too. Actually my parents are having the dinner so I will be pitching in. Your DH sure does travel a lot. That has to wear on you after a while. Is Eunice's stuff coming by boat? It is taking a really long time. My DH doesn't like to throw things away either. It sometimes drives me nuts. Hopefully you can motivate your sister to get rid of some things. 49 years is a long time to have a place and accumulate a lot of stuff. Insanity wouldn't be something I could get into. I have to enjoy my workouts not have a dread factor. Enjoy your sunny and warm weekend. We will be having rain.....at least we just got our furnace serviced so now we can turn on the heat. It is getting a bit chilly around here.

Worknprogress We don't mind if you join in at all.

Julie That is much easier to type :D. Kick Max is one I haven't done in a while. The leg conditioning drills at the end really do me in. Yuck the bright yellow badge of shame. I have to wear a badge at work too. So far in my 31 years of wearing it I have only forgotten it twice. At least if we forget ours it is only a white badge with a big T on it for a temporary pass. So did people give you a hard time since you couldn't hide the fact that you forgot it? I hate it when my back hurts. The stretching really does help though. I like stretch max my favorite is segment 1. Relaxing Sundays are always nice and a hot bubble bath would be wonderful. Did you order the new series? If you did your DH will be seeing the UPS guy fairly soon :D.

Janie Looks like your persistance with Rolly paid off. Chasing the kitties is a good sign. How are the kitties enjoying it?

This morning I did Low Impact Circut. It felt good to get a good sweat going. Not sure what I am going to do tomorrow. On Monday I will start Cathe's October rotation.

Have a great Saturday.

Cheryl

Got home from walking Rolly, and the first thing he did was poo in the house at his favorite spot. After I rubbed his nose in it (sort of speak) I feathered spanked him and sent him out the dogie door. He immediately went poo. Had to praise him when he came in and gave him a treat. He has lost his privileges of so much free time off the leash though. What am I doing wrong? He really isn't a dumb dogie, he is very smart. All Joey and I can figure is that he was most likely allowed to pee and poo on paper in the house and by the bathroom. I love him dearly, we will figure this out and be consistent in our training. Any ideas?

Cheryl, Great job on LIC. I love that one. Rolly needs more training.:( I think we'll get there, just going to take time.

Janie

Worknprogress Welcome! We're happy to have you join us!

Julie That is way easier than jldx2in2000 :D I HATE it when I forget my badge. Ours is called the green badge of shame. I think it's funny that everyone calls it the badge of shame though! I keep my badge in my purse and about a month or so ago I got to the office and realized I had left my purse at home! It also has the keys to my office, money, everything, so I turned around and drove home and worked at home that day! How nice to get out at 11 on a Friday, I hope you enjoyed your afternoon. I'm not sure if I have Kickmax, I'll have to check! There have been some others in the rotations that I thought I didn't have and then was surprised to find out I did
My DH likes to get exercise, but doesn't like to exercise just to exercise. Not sure if that makes sense, but what I mean is that he likes to do some kind of sport to get his exercise - basketball, skiing, golf. He loved riding bikes around Hilton Head, but has no interest in getting a bike and going for bike rides with me  He saw it as our form of transportation when we were there.
It is sad when your dogs start getting older. Our Shamrock (Shammy) was 13 when we had to put him down. He acted like a puppy until very close to the end. Oh I love French bulldogs too! They are just so cute!
Stretch Max and a bubble bath! What a great idea for your day off!
When the UPS man comes to our house it's usually to bring wine  My DH thinks it's funny that all of the wine shops in town know him as Pam's husband

Janie Great job on that push poull sweatfest! :p I was all ready to congratulate you on Rolly's good work when I saw your other post  WTH? I wish I had some advice for you, but I really can't offer anything other than {{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}} to you and encouragment to hang in there. It is so frustrating I know!

Cheryl That's nice that you just have to help with the big dinner. Our Thanksgiving is over a month away and I've already picked out one of the desserts I'm going to make. It's a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting and this really decadent looking pecan brittle on top  I will have to work very hard between now and then to be able to enjoy some of that!

Yes DH travels a lot and he hates the traveling. He likes his job but really doesn't enjoy traveling. He keeps trying to get me to come with him, but I have to keep reminding him that I would have to take vacation time to join him.
I know, I can't believe Eunice's stuff is STILL not there yet. It must be coming by boat.

I'm glad to hear that you got a good sweat in yesterday morning with LIC, I'm sure it felt good. I was looking at the October rotation but can't decide if I want to do it or not. I was going through some of her older rotations looking for one too. I need to figure it out soon!

I don't know what came over me but I did Cardio Core Circuit this morning. I figured after all of those Insanity days it would be fun. It was a lot more fun than Insanity! I wanted to do cardio and abs and figured that was the best way to get it all in iin under an hour! It wasn't so bad, but I was sure happy when I finished the last one of those roll back and spring up thingies :D Anyway, have a great Saturday everyone! I am headed to the beach today!

Pam

Well today I slept in a little. I love the weekends. Jason had to work today. He hauls grain. Fall is a very busy time since they are not only trying to get the corn and soybeans out of the fields but also make room in the elevators for the new grain by moving the old grain out. It’s kind of nice that he gets a lot of extra hours in during the Fall because the Winter can be kind of slow for him.

Anyway, I did Hardcore Extreme Interval Circuit today. By the time the stretch came around, I was dripping with sweat. Then I realized that my fan had turned off sometime during the workout. Not sure that I wouldn’t have been sweating like crazy anyway since that is one tough workout!

Janey I haven’t done Push/Pull before. I have the DVD but haven’t done it yet. I understand about Rolly being joined at your hip. Jason often refers to Maggie as being my shadow. She will follow me everywhere. When I go for a run outside, Jason says she stares out the window and whines until I come back. Then she proceeds to cover me with kisses and licks as soon as I get inside. Nothing like the love of a dog!! Sorry you are still having problems with Rolly going in the house. :( I don’t really have any ideas to help you out. We struggled with Oscar. He continued to pee in the house until he was 1 ½ years old. I think sometimes he did it just to get our attention. Just be patient and continue to reward him every time he goes outside.

Cheryl The leg conditioning drills of Kick Max do me in too. Actually the very last set of forward thrusting kicks is what really does it for me. I have overly tight hip flexors and when I do those, my hips pop. It doesn’t hurt. I just get to listen to a pop as I thrust out and a pop as I bring my leg back in. Luckily there are not too many people in the office on Fridays so not too many people noticed and the ones that did were pretty nice about it. Segment 3 of Stretch Max used to be my favorite but I am really starting to enjoy Segment 2. There are some days I am so tight and sore, I contemplate doing all three back-to-back! :p I did not order the new DVDs. I was really on the fence about it but since I want to get STS and the tower later this year, I decided to pass on them and wait until after I complete STS even though I will end up paying a little more. Enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner. I don’t eat turkey but I still can’t wait for our Thanksgiving!

Pam I would have loved to turn around and go back home yesterday but I would have either had to take the entire day off or still go through security so I could get my laptop to work from home. Since I was planning on leaving early and going shopping after work, I decided to wear the badge of shame for a few hours. WOW 13 years old! Jason and I would love it if Oscar makes it that long. Actually my license plate is Oscar 15. I didn’t pick the number but I keep telling Jason that must mean Oscar is going to live to 15! That’s funny about the wine guys knowing your husband that way. I have never ordered wine through the mail. I like wine but don’t really stray from my Pinot Noir or Zinfandel. I used to drink Merlot but haven’t had that in a long time. Congratulations on Cardio Core Circuit. I haven’t done that one in a long time and kind of miss it. Although I cannot do the roll back, jump up thing. In fact there are a few that I have to modify because I can’t get past the “sticking” point. I think the other one is the roll back and then go into a pushup. Good luck finding a rotation. I love having all the rotations to choose from. In fact I have the rest of the year already planned out (actually through mid-January when I hope to start STS). ;)

Worknprogress Welcome to the group. I am new too but looking forward to getting to know everyone (including you!).

Well, I am off to work on cleaning the house before Jason gets home. The dogs will hate it but it has to be done!

Rest day today, but I did walk Rolly in full rain today. He tipped toed through it. Poor little guy. When he came in from the rain, he ran and leaned/rubbed against all over the place trying to dry off. LOL

I'll be taking a trip to our houseboat in less than a couple of weeks. Utah will be just abut 80 degrees in the middle of the days at that time. Joey and I usually go at this time of year to look for agates, dinosaur bone, unusual things and petrified wood. It really looks great in our yard.

Pam, Thank you for the hugs. I have a mind set that it will take time with Rolly, for whatever reason. Also the last owner gave him up because of not being house trained. I'm not giving up on him, even it it means a leash for a long long long time. I just don't understand why other dogs are so quick to learn. My Molly was quick, but some dogs I've had, took longer too. Hmmmmm. Great job on CCC. I'm not good at the roll back and spring up thingies. Those are hard! Enjoy your time at the beach.

Julie, When I was a working Mom, I loved the weekends too. It was like magic. Great job on HCIC today. Not easy at all! Believe me, even without the fan you would be sweaty.:) Thank you for the advice on Rolly, I'll be more patient with him.

Did you say house cleaning? O, I should do some of that.

Janie

Happy Sunday ladies. I'm just popping in to say hi! I hope everyone is having a great Sunday! It is just beautiful at the beach. Happy Thanksgivng Cheryl!

Pam

Didn't get a chance to get on the computer yesterday, hockey season has now started so we watched our Canucks loose to the L.A. Kings last night. Yesterday morning I did MMA Fusion and this morning I went with a friend to our Lululemon store to do yoga. Wow did it ever feel good. We are going to try to do this every Sunday. There were about 18 of us in the store for it.

Janie Sorry to hear that Rolly is still pooing in the house. I don't have any advise for you and I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I guess there are dogs that just need a bit more time than others. LIC is a good workout because it is a longer one I can only do it when I have a day off. I didn't know that you and Joey had a houseboat. That would be so much fun.

Pam That is too funny that all of the wine shops know your DH as Pam's husband :D. Your dessert sounds yummy. I have no idea what our dessert will be tonight. One of my aunts is going to bring it so it will be a surprise. The travelling has to get to you. I work with people who travel a lot to Ottawa or Toronto each month. I don't mind travelling once in a while but I wouldn't want to do it all the time. I thought I would try to October one. It has some workouts that I haven't done in a while. Oh my CCC????? What did come over you :D. I haven't felt the urge to do that one in a while. Ummm the roll back and spring up thingies......yes I end up watching them on my back because I am too pooped to move. It is still warm enough to go to the beach!!!! I though it was good that I could get out today and rake the leaves up.

Julie Good job on Hardcore Extreme. That is one that I haven't done in a long time. My left hip pops too, my right one is OK. Your are right it doesn't hurt but it is kinda weird listening to it. You sound like me being really tight and sore. I do find that stretching or yoga really helps, but it is always hard trying to fit everything in. STS is a great workout and I would love to get the tower too. I don't think you would have to pay too much more if you wait a bit to get the new series. We will be leaving for my parents soon for our Thanksgiving dinner. I love turkey and I hope that we get some leftovers (yummy).

Have a great Sunday everyone.

Cheryl

Went to see a play "Taming of the Shrew" set in Western Style. Very good play. Funny!

Pam, Happy Thanksgiving to you too. Sounds so lovely.

Cheryl, Great job on MMA Fusion and Yoga. It sounds like a lot of fun Doing Yoga every Sunday with friends.

Have a great day everyone.

Janie

Well, I jumped in last week and then didn't get a chance to get back.

Thanks for letting me join in. I think I really need a check-in group to get me back on track and I do like the way this group shares a bit about their personal lives as well. As a stay-at-home mom, life can be a bit isolating.

A bit about me. I was a chubby teenager and in my early 20's I discovered a gym and that started my fitness journey.

Somewhere along the way, I started running and that is my first and foremost favorite form of cardio. Then about 4 or 5 years ago, my sister introduced Cathe to me and she is my go to girl for inhome exercise.

I have 4 children (22, 17, 6 and 5) so I stay pretty busy. I live in Delaware only about an hour from Cathe's gym so I was easily able to attend one of her Road Trips which was tons of fun.

My youngest just started an all day pre-K program. He just turned 5 right before school started so we are holding back kindergarten until next year. He is going 3 days a week so now is the time to get back on the wagon!!!

Today I have to get some house cleaning done and then I am out for a run.

Janie - Do you live in Utah? Mid 80's at for a high at this time of year? I had no idea it was that warm there! I think it is great that your DH works out with you. I did STS Meso 1 and 2 at this time last year and really loved the program. I didn't get a chance to do Meso 3 because my back went awry terribly and was benched for a bit of time.

Cheryl - I take it from this thread that you had a problematic back too. Don't you just hate it? Of course, I know that when I don't work out - it gets worse so it has been giving me trouble lately. Happy Thanksgiving! I love the whole turkey dinner thing. I like having the holiday at my house because I really enjoy cooking. It has become very therapeutic to me.

Pam - Do you live near a beach? I am about 2 hours from the ocean here. DH and I had out first getaway in years this past summer and we splurged on a really nice hotel down in Rehoboth. We sat on the beach from about 9 am until about 6! Of course, under an umbrella off and on and lots of sunscreen. It sounds like you have a love/hate relationship with Insanity. I have that program and it is insane but you really have to enjoy that drill-type repetitive workout. I don't think I could ever do the rotation either because of that, but you're right, it is a good one to throw in the mix.

Julie -Sounds like you've gotten hooked on Cathe! It happens to us all! I think you will like Push/Pull. Because of the way the workout is designed - it goes by in the blink of an eye. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone too. Hopefully at some point I will get some down time and be able to go back into some of the threads to get more history.

Again, thanks for letting me join in!

Happy Monday everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to Cheryl!

I did High Step Challenge today. I did it last Monday too and was able to do almost all of the pushups on my toes but today could only do about 6 of the 32 on my toes. Isn’t that weird how some days you can do more than other days! Anyway, I wish I could say yesterday I did Stretch Max and took a bath but for some reason I was just being too lazy to pop in the DVD or run a bath. I may go home tonight and do Stretch Max. We’ll see though.

Janie I just realized I spelled your name wrong with my last post. Sorry about that! That’s really neat that you go to UT. I have heard it is a beautiful place. Have you ever been to Angel Canyon (I think that is what is called)? I believe that is where Best Friends Sanctuary is. I heard about that place with the Michael Vick dogs and have wanted to visit it ever since.

Cheryl I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving dinner. I bet Yoga was great. I have tried doing Yoga at home and just can’t get into it but I bet I could if I was in a class setting. Unfortunately, there are no gyms in my area. I would have to drive 30 miles in any direction to go to one and I just can’t justify that on a weekly basis (not with gas almost $3/gallon!). Maybe Cathe will come out with a Yoga workout some day and then I won't have to worry about it! :D

Pam I wish I lived near a beach. I guess technically I do live 3 hours from Lake Michigan in Chicago but we've never gone up there. We did go to a beach on the Michigan side of Lake Michigan with our dogs and that was a blast! I hope you enjoyed your time there. I bet it was very relaxing!

worknprogress I wish I could feel the same way that you do about running. I kind of have a love/hate relationship with it. I used to run on my treadmill but that has been out of commission for 2 years now (remodeling our house very slowly) so I haven’t run in a long time. I am doing some older Cathe rotations and there are a few 30 minute runs once a week. I have been having to go outside and run at 4 am which I don’t particularly enjoy. Although by the time my 30 minutes is up, I am usually thinking “that’s it, I want to keep going”. ;)

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Julie I love sleeping in on the weekends! Of course sleeping in for me now is usually getting up between 7-8, but it's just so nice to not set an alarm clock. That is one of the best things about the weekend.
Wow, Hardcare Extreme Interval circuit is a goodie! I am dripping sweat with that one even with the fans at full speed Great job!
I was on the fence about the new dvds too but I did end up ordering them all. I think that you are making a good trade off getting STS and the tower instead though. STS is really a great program.
Oscar 15 - that is a great license plate! I agree with you that it must be mean Oscar will live to be at least 15. There were 2 beautiful boxers at the beach this weekend.
I have a terrible time with the sticking point on those frog situps with your hands behind your head in CCC. I just can't get up without taking my arms off my head  I also just can't do all of the crossover pushups in CCC. Good for you in having your workouts already planned out for the rest of the year. I think I need to do that because I keep finding myself at the end of a rotation and then scrambling to find another one. I definitely have become hooked on rotations though, it makes so much difference.

Janie Poor Rolly just doesn't like being wet huh? It sounds like he might enjoy some of those doggie rain boots and raincoat!
The weather in Utah sounds just perfect for being on a houseboat. How long will you stay?
I didn't realize that Rolly's previous owner gave him up because he wasn't house trained. It sounds like he is really close so hang in there.

Cheryl I can't believe it's hocky season again already, didn't the season just end? Sorry to hear that your team lost! It sounds like the yoga class was great, it is just so nice that the store offers it. How was the turkey dinner? I hope you did get to bring home some of the leftovers. They are my favorite part too. Especially turkey noodle soup!
I used to be the one who travelled all of the time but since I changed jobs I don't miss the travel at all. I got to go to a lot of great places and had a lot of fun, but you really do get tired of it.
Yes it is still warm enough for the beach and the water is still warm enough for swimming. It's actually been a little warmer than usual lately. Our normal high this time of year is the upper 70's but we have been having mid to upper 80's and it is supposed to be 90 tomorrow! I thought we were done skiing for the season, but maybe not! of course DH won't be home til Saturday evening, so not sure we'll get a chance to go.

Worknprogress I really wish that I enjoyed running. I absolutely hate it but do end up doing it sometimes since you can do it anywhere. I bet those kids keep you really busy - wow! Having your youngest in pre-k is probably a nice break for you though.
I am envious that you got to go to a road trip. I plan to try to get to one some day. I think it would be especially nice to go to Cathe's gym to see the set and also to meet the rest of Cathe's crew.
I really enjoy cooking too. One of my favorite things to do when it is cold outside is to spend an entire day cooking for a dinner party. I don't do as much in the summer because I like to be outside.
We live about 2 hours from the coast in North Carolina. We are very lucky to have some good friends who own a beach house. They are retired so that go and stay there in the fall after the summer rental season is over. I just love to hang out at the beach, it is so relaxing.
Yes, I definitely have a love/hate relationship with insanity!

Julie Great job on HSC, I really love that workout, it just flies by for me. I can never do all of the pushups on my toes though. I get 10-12 max and then have to go to my knees. I don't ever seem to get any better with them either
I did really enjoy the beach. The weather was just perfect!

Since I was still at the beach this morning I went for a 3 mile run for my workout. My Favorite...NOT  I put on my ipod and it started with a great Steely Dan song so I was thinking that was a great way to start and 10 seconds into the song the ipod died - dead battery! I just completely charged it, I guess it isn't holding a charge anymore  So I did my 3 miles with no music, but at least I was on the beach. I had conference calls all morning so I did them in the car on the drive home and now here I am sitting in my home office trying to stay awake! I may try to do some weight work this evening. I hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Pam

Did MM and walked Rolly about 45 min. I don't think I'm going to Utah this year. Joey already went to pick up a radio in Wyoming, then to Utah.

Workinprogress, Nice to see you back on the forum. Thank you for sharing a little bit about yourself. YOU are so LUCKY to be able to attend a class of Cathe's. Wow! Enjoy your run today, that's always nice to do. For me because I'm old, I jog or speed walk. I sometimes have a sore back but nothing like you and otheres here on the forum. We do have to treat it carefully.

Joey and I live in Washington state near Olympia. A little place called Shelton. It's a logging town, very Quaint.

Julie, Great job on HSC, another fantastic workout I love to do. Sometimes because be don't get enough sleep, drink the day before, worked hard the day before, a little sick, we just can't seem to do our exercises the way we want. Not enough umph. That's OK, keep going, your body will catch up the next time. Stretch Max is also a realy good one to do after intense exercises. Hope you get the time/umph to do it. Never been to Angel Canyon. Will have to look that one up.

Pam, Great job on the 3 mile run on the beach. Wow, I'm impressed even if you did it without music. :) Is it good to be home, or would you rather be back at the beach?

Take care everyone,

Janie
