Lurkers Invitation For The Holidays

Good morning ladies, I hope everyone is doing well.

Janie You're home alone again too huh? How long will Joey be gone?
For me it always feels good to be at home, but I wouldn't have minded another day or two at the beach :D I do miss my kitties when I'm gone and you can tell that they are really lonely when we aren't here because they won't leave you alone when you get home! :p Since I have to take a week's vacation time to take my mom up to the cottage in a few weeks I didn't want to use the vacation days though.

I picked Cathe's January '08 rotation and started it this morning with Boot Camp. This rotation has a bonus burn - every day you add 40 push ups, 40 tricep dips, 30 alternating back lunges and 200 crunches! For some reason I have been gaining weight for the last 2 weeks and I can't figure out why  so I'm hoping this rotation will help me to get that under control. I can't figure it out though because my eating has been fine and I've been consistent with my workouts. So frustrating! Anyway, I hope everyone has a great day!

Pam

Good morning everyone!

I did Low Max today. I remember the first time I did it I thought it would be a cake walk because it had “Low” in the title! Ha! It still gets my heart rate up and the calories burned!

Janie Good job on MM! The Hardcore Series was my first Cathe purchase (outside of Basic Step) and my first foray into heavy lifting. MM will always hold a special place in my heart! You are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the country. Jason and I have talked about retiring out the Pacific Northwest (of course that is 30 years away) but WA, OR, or UT are the places we dream about! All we get to see around here is corn and soybean fields (which I guess are pretty in their own special way)!

Pam Great job with your run! I have never run on the beach but have heard that it is an excellent workout. And to do it without music! :( You are a brave soul. I am not sure I could have hung in there for so long! Although maybe the beach scene helped! Your post did remind me that I need to charge my mp3 so that it is ready for my run later this week! Good job with Bootcamp as well. I have never done that one. Maybe I should add that bonus burn to all my days too. I really want to get better at doing pushups off my knees. It sure is frustrating when you can't pinpoint the reason behind a weight gain. :( Hang in there! I am sure you will see some difference with that rotation. I just checked it out and WOW! I almost picked this one to do but the 50 minute cycle in week 3 kept me from doing it. I don't have a bike (indoor or outdoor). I am sure I could substitute something for it but wasn't sure what. You'll have to keep us updated on how this works for you. I am always looking for good fat burning rotations! :p

Julie

Good morning. I am a lurker. There...I said it. But I would like to lurk no more.

Briefly, I will turn 47 years old in November and have been working out 5 - 6 days a week since October of 2006. I have done multiple rounds of Beachbody products (Power 90, P90X, X+ and hybrids of all of those) with great success. I found their message boards to be invaluable while using their programs. The programs and support helped me lose almost 40 pounds and decrease my body fat percentage from a terrible 36% to a comfortable 22%.

I stumbled upon a Cathe Friedrich workout about a year ago. Amazon actually "thought I might like it" based upon some of my purchases. I bought Slow & Heavy and could not believe how sore I was after completing it. After all, I was a P90X graduate several times over! I was hooked. I bought Muscle Max (loved it), Shock Cardio, and STS. I have never been disappointed.

I started my first round of STS in January of this year and did 2 back to back rounds. I loved it, gained an unbelievable amount of strength, and absolutely loved knowing that I was working really hard...I had the soreness to prove it!

After my second round of STS, I decided to start another round of P90X just to mix things up. That was 60 days ago, and I am back to STS. I just really enjoy Cathe's no nonsense approach. Today is "Day 2" of Mesocycle 1 of Round 3 of STS.

That brings me here...I have only skimmed the posts here, but need to start somewhere for the online support that will help me get where I want to be. This looks like a good place to begin. Hopefully, I'll get acclimated to these threads and find a home. I know that the support and encouragement from others who are on the same path is key to success. I hope to give as good as I get.

Thanks! Helen

Monday I was so sore after yoga I didn't want to sit in front of a computer. I didn't get to bed until late Sunday night and that didn't help either since I still woke up at 5 a.m.. I couldn't believe how sore my butt and hip flexors were the day after yoga. I struggled through the Pure Strength Legs and abs on Monday but that was about all I could manage. At least my butt feels better today :D. Today was Imax 2 but my legs started giving out in interval 7, still feeling some effects of the yoga.

Janie Taming of the Shrew in Western Style would have been very funny.

Worknprogress You are so lucky to have been able to go to one of Cathe's roadtrips. I am a little far away to do that but I have my fingers crossed that she might come to Seattle for a roadtrip. That is a bit closer to me. Yes you are right I do have a problematic back. I used to love to run. We have a lot of lakes and trails around us so I used to run a lot of trails in the summer. But with my back once I got back onto the roads during the winter months it would do my in, so I gave up running. I do find that stretching and yoga really help it. I just have to make a point of doing it and not letting it slide. I love turkey dinner.

Julie Good job on HSC. Good for you that you can do almost all of the push ups on your toes. I think it depends on how you slept and what you ate on how you do in your workouts. I find that some days it is there and some days it just isn't. Thanksgiving dinner was really good. You still get to look forward to yours. I do yoga at home but it was better doing it in a class. I did pretty good but man was I sore after. Too bad that there are no gyms around you. I am lucky that I have lots of options around me.

Pam Yep hockey has started once again. At least they won their second game. We will see how they do this season. It has been 40 years since the Canucks joined the NHL. I think I have watched with for most of it.
Sigh....no turkey leftovers. My parents forgot to give us any and I forgot to ask. It isn't that warm around here, it is still nice but in the 60s. That sucks that your ipod battery died. At least that would have made the pain of having to run easier.

Helen Welcome to our little check in. Good for you in your workouts. I can't get into P90X (Tony Horton drives me nuts) but I know a lot of people who love him and the workouts. Good job on your weight loss, I know it can get harder the older we get in loosing it. Isn't Cathe great! I have been doing her for about 13 years now and I am so glad that I found her. We try to support each other in our goals. It takes a bit to get into posting but it is fun once you do.

Anyway have a great Wednesday everyone.

Cheryl

Have insomnia. Tuesday took Rolly out for a walk and did Athletic Step. Lots of fun!

Pam, Joey will be gone around 3 weeks. I still can change my mind and meet him there, but so far, I just want to stay home. I understand about kitties missing ya. They do that to us too. Darling little things.

Jan. rotation looks tough, but I'm sure you'll do just fine. Great job on Boot Camp. Wow, that bonus burn would knock me out. Can't figure out why you are gaining weight either. Hmmmmm. Are you getting enough sleep, have you been a little sick? Well, before you know it, with the work you are planning to do, you won't help but lose the weight.

Julie, Great job on LM. Isn't that a fun one? When you get to retire, you won't regret living over here. It is so beautiful and so full of life everywhere you look. You are right though, anywhere a person lives, they can find it's own special beauty.

Helen, Welcome aboard, it is so nice to meet you. I'm glad you chose us until you get acclimated to forum life. The ladies here are all wonderful, knowledgeable and very supportive.

Congratulations for losing 40 pounds from Beach Body products. To lose that much, you have to know what you are doing. I have a lot of their products too and intermingle it with Cathe's. Lots of variety that way.

I can see you have the Cathe bug. Her work is undoubtedly one of the best workouts out there. STS really hits home for me.

Another round of congratulations for the continued success of getting stronger and having the motivation to keep going. Awesome!

Cheryl, DOM's has a way of sometimes stopping you in your tracks! Great job on IMAX 2. Yoga is amazing isn't it?:)

Workinprogress, How ya doing?

Take care everyone,

Janie

Good morning ladies! Today started out pretty good for me. I did Hardcore Extreme High/Low Intervals and was feeling so energetic at the end that I tacked on 200 jumping jacks and 40 pushups. I don’t know what came over me! I did all 40 pushups on my toes but had to split them out into 4 sets (16, 8, 8, and 8). That last 8 was hard and it didn’t help that my Maggie decided she wanted to lick the sweat off my face while I did my last set of pushups! :p

Helen Welcome! I am very new to the check-in thread (started last week), pretty new to Cathe (started in April), and pretty new to working out consistently 5-6 days/week (started in January 2010). That’s amazing that you have been able to work out consistently for 4 years. I can’t wait to be able to say that for myself. ;)

Also, great job on the 40 lb. weight loss! If I may ask, how do you measure your body fat percentage? I have a 1-click AccuMeasure but I am not sure how accurate it is. When I use it, it says I have 24% body fat and I get similar results using the Navy Tape Measure Method; but, last month, I had my body composition analyzed in a Bod Pod and the results said I was a whopping 34%! I am always curious how others measure themselves because I struggle with finding an easy and accurate method.

Cheryl Great job on doing PS Legs and Abs and Imax 2 with sore legs!! That’s amazing. I have to say that leg DOMS are the worst. :( Although, usually once I get started in a workout, I stop noticing them as much and then later they come back full force. Glad to see you enjoyed Thanksgiving. Now it is off to looking forward to Christmas and a New Year!

Janie Insomnia is the worst! I don’t get it often but in general I don’t sleep well. I sometimes wonder if I have sleep apnea or if I am just a light sleeper. I wake up at every little movement or noise. If I need to turn over to my other side, I wake up; if Jason moves, I wake up, etc. It has gotten a little better since I started taking Valerian Root and Melatonin. I think the Melatonin actually helps more but I haven't stopped the Valerian yet.

Good job on Athletic Step! That was one of my early Cathe purchases. I haven’t done it in a long time but it sure is a goody! :D

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Julie Great job on Low Max. You're right that it is deceiving with Low in the title!
It is nice to run on the beach, you just have to run around a big wave every so often and watch out for fishing lines to make sure you are running either under them or around them! It adds a little interest to the run at least! Bootcamp is one of my favorite Cathe workouts. It was my very favorite for a long time after I first got it. I was doing it all the time for awhile. I am liking the bonus burn and am hoping that it helps me with push ups. Nothing has helped me so far. I almost skipped this one because of the running in it, but I figured I can always do the bike on those days instead. You could substitute a run for the biking days. I have a spin bike and an outdoor bike but I will probably use my spin bike since I workout in the mornings when it is still dark outside.

Helen Wlecome! you are officially no longer a lurker since you have posted here :p
Congratulations on your weight and fat loss, that is really something to be proud of. I have never seen or tried the P90X workouts but I've heard that they are good. I have been trying to insanity workouts but have been spoiled by Cathe. I have a few other instructors that I like for some variety (Mindy, Tracy Staehle, Amy Bento mainly), but Cathe is my mainstay.
The STS program is amazing, isn't it? I've only done it once, but plan on starting another round sometime this fall/winter. Those push ups in meso 1 are killers though!

Cheryl Oh, I hate being so sore that it's hard to sit down. Actually I kind of love it but hate it! Glad your butt is starting to feel better now! Pure strength legs and abs when your butt was that sore already must've been a killer! Ouch! Then Imax on top of that?! You were really punishing your legs weren't you?! :p

What a bummer that you didn't get any leftovers from dinner. Darn! I usually try to get the carcas (sp?) so I can make soup.

Janie Sorry to hear about your insomnia. I usually sleep so well, but when DH is out of town I find I don't usually sleep very well. How is Rolly coming along with his training? Good job on Athletic step, that is a fun one!
I understand you just wanting to stay home, you were gone for quite a while this summer. It's so nice to be home and into your routine.
I can't put my finger on what is causing the weight gain. I have been getting headaches for the last week too so maybe there is something going on there.
There certainly hasn't been a big change in my eating or activity levels to explain a 4 pound gain. ERRRRRR.

This morning was cardio kicks. It's the first time I've ever done that one and you know I'm not a kickbox fan but I really enjoyed it! It seems like more of a cross between kickboxing and a regular aerobic workout to me. I didn't have it so I downloaded it yesterday when I saw it in the rotation. I have been doing the 40 push ups in my bonus burn in groups of 10 because I've been trying to do as many on my toes as possible. This morning I was able to keep going on my toes and did 15, I was so excited! Usually 10-12 is my limit before I have to hit the knees. It's the little things :) Have a great day everyone!

Pam

Thanks, everyone, for the warm welcome. This type of support will keep me moving in the right direction. And thanks for the congrats on my weight loss. I've managed to keep most of it off, but I struggle with my diet...I can do any workout that is put before me, but I have never been able to get my diet completely under control. I'm hoping for some fresh input on these forums and get rid of 15 - 20 more pounds by the time January rolls around.

Helen Welcome! I am very new to the check-in thread (started last week), pretty new to Cathe (started in April), and pretty new to working out consistently 5-6 days/week (started in January 2010). That’s amazing that you have been able to work out consistently for 4 years. I can’t wait to be able to say that for myself. ;)

I am always curious how others measure themselves because I struggle with finding an easy and accurate method.

I used the AccuMeasure caliper at home, and have also used the tape measure method. Both gave me results that are very close to each other...within a percentage point or two. I'm hoping it's accurate! I'd hate to think what my starting BF% was if these methods aren't accurate!

Meso 1 Disc 2 is in the player and ready to go. I shouldn't keep Cathe waiting...

Have a wonderful day and thank you again. :DHelen

Today was PS Back Biceps and Abs. An oldie but a goody.

Janie Insomnia is not fun. I find I have it too sometimes. It seems the older I get the harder it is to get a good nights sleep. I hope you get a good nights sleep soon. Athletic Step is lots of fun isn't it. Yoga is amazing, I am looking forward to the class this Sunday.

Julie You sure did have a lot of energy this morning. Good for you doing the extra jumping jacks and pushups after Hardcore Extreme. It is funny when our fur babies come and lick the sweat off for us. Sometimes one of my cats will do that to me. Yep leg DOMS is the worst. They are doing much better though. It is hard to believe that Christmas and New Years isn't that far away.

Pam It is a love hate thing with the DOMS. At least I know I worked hard :D I know working legs and then doing Imax.......my legs didn't like me after that. I was hoping for leftovers, oh well maybe another time. Sometimes I find that I put on weight for no reason and it is fustrating. I am wondering if maybe you aren't watersking as much as you were in the summer and that helped with burning more calories??? I hope you lose it just as fast it can be so fustrating when you work so hard to stay in shape. Cardio Kicks is a fun one to do, I used to have it on tape but got the DVD when it was available.

Helen I can relate with struggling with the diet. I get the clean eating magazines that come out every couple of months. It helps me try to stay on track and gives me some new ideas.

Have a great Thursday.

Cheryl

Julie It lookds like our posts crossed yesterday. I didn't see yours when I started mine. You had quite the workout yesterday Hardcore extreme Plus! Great job! And all of your pushups on your toes too, that is awesome! My cat likes to come up for some petting when I'm done with my workout and sometimes he comes a little early. The other day he was trying to walk under me while I was doing push ups!

Helen I understand what you're saying about workout and diet. I've found that for me the diet seems to be the most important part. I am a true believer in everything in moderation though. If I try to deprive myself then I just start obsessing over what I'm missing and go crazy.
How did that STS workout go yesterday?!

Cheryl Are you doing a rotation or just your own thing right now? I don't have the PS discs, how do you like them?
It's nice having that Sunday yoga class to look forward to. I really enjoyed it when I was at the gym every day in classes, but it is just so convenient to walk upstairs to do my workout that I have gotten in a real rut. I should try to go to a class once a week though.
I'm sure your legs didn't like you at all after all that! My legs were still sore yesterday after running on Monday. Every time I run I get DOMS for days since I do it so infrequently. They seem to be about back to normal now though.

I think you probably nailed my weight gain with the skiing. I hadn't even thought about that! Last year I didn't do a workout on the days that I skiied and counting my skiing as my workout but I didn't do tha tthis year. I don't really think of it as a workout but more as having fun but I bet you are exactly right. We were going pretty much every Saturday and Sunday and sometimes Friday too and haven't gone in a couple of weeks. UGH, does that mean I need to do extra wos all winter? I hope not!

Janie I finally started my sourdough starter yesterday. I haven't checked out that website yet but will be doing that soon. I have a feeling my bread won't be as beautiful as yours though! I also need to come up with something to send you since I didn't get to Bermuda to send you some pink sand! Hmmm...maybe something North Carolina-y whatever that might be! I hope you and Rolly are doing well with your Joey away. My DH is coming home Saturday and then will be here for at least a few weeks. Hooray!

This morning it was Step, Jump and Pump for me followed by my bonus burn. I decided to add an extra onto the end of my bonus burns too - I run up and down the stairs 10 times. My cat sits there and watches me like I'm crazy! I made a really tasty talapia with a parmesan breadcrumb crust for dinner last night too. I'm determined to get back to my normal weight before the holidays hit! Of course I am making lasagne with that homemade ricotta this weekend, I just have to remember portion control!! Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Thursday. Hi Workinprogress hope you are doing well!

Pam

Good afternoon! I have been swamped at work and finally had time to check out the forum over lunch.

This morning I ran 4 miles and then did segment 3 of Core Max and segment 1 of Stretch Max. I also did 40 pushups in 4 sets of 10. I did those in between Core Max and Stretch Max. I am thinking if I do them when my body is already tired maybe I won’t have so much trouble doing more of them in workouts when they are closer to the beginning of the workout!

Helen I hope I didn’t get you worried about the body fat testing. I actually am wondering how accurate the Bod Pod is. Everyone I talk to about the results thinks there was an error because I certainly don’t look that bad and I have decent (not great) muscle definition. The most important thing about your measurements is that they went down!! Keep up the good work on your workouts and focusing on your diet! For the most part, I don’t struggle with eating clean and healthy but I do have portion control issues and boredom eating issues. If I don’t keep myself busy, I will be stuffing myself mindlessly!! I am really working on trying to recognize the physical cues of hunger and fullness right now and it can be a struggle some days.

Cheryl Great job on PS BBA! I have to say upper body workouts are some of my favorites! Glad to hear your legs are doing better. I know what you mean about Christmas and New Years right around the corner. Yesterday was my dad’s birthday and I almost forgot because I kept thinking no way was it mid-October yet! It was just August not that long ago! I guess I better start planning my Christmas shopping! I saw you mentioned you get Clean Eating mag. I just subscribed to that yesterday (well...sent in the postcard thing). I hope I like it but it sounds like you do so that is encouraging.

Pam Pets sure make it interesting. Oscar is usually the one the bugs me towards the end. He knows that when I take my shoes off that I am close to being done since I like to do the stretching portion shoeless. It really threw him for a loop this morning that I took my shoes off after my pushups but then had an extra long stretching session. Great job on Step, Jump, Pump and then your own extra bonus burn on top of the other bonus burn! I haven’t done SJP yet but I am scheduled to on Monday and can't wait because it looks like fun! That tilapia sounded amazing. I love parmesan crusted anything! :p

Janie Hope you are sleeping better since your last post!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Took Rolly out to update his vaccine shots, and had his nails clipped. He is such a drama King. Jeesh! Getting ready to go out for a very long walk.

Julie, Great job on HLI. Love your energy! Well done. I'll have to try what you do for insomnia. Thanks for the suggestions. Also great ob on the 4 mile run, core and stretches and push ups. Wow, nice going.

Pam, No accidents yet from Rolly, put I watch him like a hawk and he's on a leash or sitting with me at all times. It's better I think. He went out when he had a little freedom from the leash to poop. Yeah! I think Cheryl is right, skiing is what kept off the weight. Great job on CK, it is a good one. Congratulations on your toe push ups. Way to go! Great job on SJ&P and the bonus burn. Doing all those bonuses after your bonus will indeed make you lose your 4 pounds.;) Enjoy your sourdough journey and I'm sure your bread will be just fine. Remember to on the site, it gives you step by step details if and when you need it. Please, you don't have to send me anything, it was my pleasure. Love ya!

Helen, I struggle everyday with my diet. I love to eat. But... I think wanting to be healthy and fit is good inspiration. When I really want something not good for myself, and I'm just about ready to eat it, I simply say NO! Most of the time that works for me.

Enjoy Meso 1 Disc 2. Don't worry, You'll find Cathe is very patient. LOL:D

Cheryl, A little insomnia last night, but not so bad. I notice I have insomnia when I don't eat right especially when I don't eat organic foods. They truly are wonderful foods. Great job on PS Back Biceps and Abs. A Wonderful workout.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Good evening.

Julie: (I think...still trying to learn which names belong to which posts)...No worries about the body fat testing. I have heard of other people who got drastically different readings using different measuring methods.

Pam: I also believe in everything in moderation. I think my problem is that sometimes I tend to do just that...have EVERYTHING in moderation. I'll find the balance. :)

I am an eater for all reasons. My 2 college kids will be home this weekend and I know food (and drink) will be front and center for at least 2 days. I'm in control, though. I am in control...I am in control...I am in control:D

My back & triceps workout yesterday was great. I love it when Cathe says, "This one's gonna sting a little, I won't lie." She didn't lie. I also felt something not so pleasant in the left side of my lower back on my last set of deadlifts. I've never hurt my back before, so, with plyometrics on the schedule for today, I decided to play it safe and just do about 20 minutes of stretching instead. It's better this evening, but still plenty sore if I move the wrong way. :(

Legs tomorrow...I hope.
Helen

Today was my day off from working out but still got out on my lunch for a walk even though it was raining.

Pam I am doing Cathe's October rotation right now. The PS workouts are good though the two upper body workouts are quite short. I am going to do Chest Shoulders and Triceps tomorrow and that is only about 35 minutes long. After working out at home for so long it was nice to get out and do something a bit different. It is convenient to workout at home though. I think with the skiing you were burning off a lot of calories even though it was something fun. See how things go....hopefully you won't have to workout more . I can just picture you cat sitting there watching you run the stairs. They get this look on their faces when they think you have lost your mind don't they :D. Let me know how your homemade ricotta turns out.

Julie Great job on your 4 mile run. Wow and you did core max and stretch max and 40 pushups ......good for you. It feels like the year has gone by so fast. 2 1/2 months and it will be 2011 . I like the clean eating magazine. It gives me ideas on what to eat. They have the 14 day clean eating plan but I find I can't afford to follow it too closely. DH does not like to eat anything healthy and since we are on a budget I pick out a few things here and there to try. I have really tried getting back to eating healthy and in the past month I have lost 7 pounds by just doing some of the recipes in the magazine. Hopefully you will like it.

Janie What Rolly is a drama King!!!! Too funny. I find it fustrating when I have insomnia. I have been noticing that what you eat really does affect you. The cleaner I eat the better I feel so I can see organic foods having an affect on how you feel.

Helen I really hope your back is better. That not so pleasant pain on the left side of your lower back is exactly what I have so I know how sore it can be if you move the wrong way. I have had it now for about 8 years. You were smart in doing stretching instead of doing legs. I would stick with the stretching for several more days until it feels better.

Yeah it's Friday tomorrow. Have a great day everyone.

Cheryl

By the way - my name is Debbie so that should be easier checking in.

PAM - I originally felt guilty about having my Pre-K guy in a full five days but he really enjoys it. My older two (my 17 y/o daughter and 22 y/o son) really have a lot of issues so I truly believe my little guy is best served in pre-k 5 days a week until life (hopefully) calms down a bit for me.

You enjoy cooking as well? I am no gourmet by any means but what do you like to cook?

Steely Dan? Oh gosh! Haven't heard that name for a long time. Not that I am complaining....again, just haven't heard that name for awhile.

Janie - I know you said that you and your husband work out together. I am so envious!! My husband just started a new "diet" - a shake in the AM, and lunchtime and then a regular meal. He is no dummy - he knows this is not a longterm thing but is looking for something to jumpstart his weight loss.

I am being supportive even though there is bunches of stuff on my cupboard for him to mix all of his things!

I feel for you in the insomnia department. Hence, why I am on the forum and 12:30 am!!!

Julie - you sound so energetic!!! I know you are probably 15 plus years younger than I but I just love your enthusiasm! What kind of work do you do?

Helen out of lurkdome! Are you doing Cathe's STS rotation? I too, am connecting names and posts so don't feel bad! You sound like me, an emotional eater. They say that is the key to weight loss, don't they?

For me, I love to eat and my weight control usually ties into my calorie consumption. I am so-so in weight but would feel tons better if I was the same weight but really physically fit.

What about your husband? Is he into physical fitness? I ask because my husband used to be but is now probably about 50 pounds overweight and really struggling. Because he is nearing fifty and so much of it is in his bely, I am so worried about him.

Pam - You mentioned about your husband travelling to Germany and you posted about Boston. Are you located in the States? My brother's job takes him out of the country a couple of times a year but last I heard, they may close the US location and he may have to relocate overseas for a bit of time. Luckily, their kids are grown but I hope they don't have to sell their house here in the US just to make things work.

As for me, life is a bit difficult. My two older children are from a previous marriage with a recovering addict as father.....that probably tells you a lot.

I have not run at all this week. My goal for Friday is to run 30 min and do an upper body workout!

Good morning everyone! Happy Friday!!

I did Kick Max today plus 40 pushups. This time I could do 20 in one set before I had to stop. Then I did two more sets of 10. I am really hoping if I keep working on this, maybe by the time I start STS in mid-January, all those pushups in Meso 1 will seem like a breeze! (Yeah right!)

Janie It usually takes a few days to a week for the Valerian to kick in and then you have to take it every day. I only take 400mg/day. The Melatonin works almost instantly so you could just take it on the days you are having problems (can't remember the dosage I take). Hope they help if you do try them. That's funny about being a drama King! My dogs are fine with shots but hate when we do their nails. We grind them instead of clipping and do it ourselves at home. Oscar hates having his paws touched and Maggie likes to kick me while I am doing it! :(

Helen Sorry to hear about your back. Injuries small or large are a pain (literally and figuratively). I get annoyed when I tweak something and then have to take it light or move around my scheduled plans. If only are bodies never got out of whack!! ;) Good luck with this weekend! I know you will be fine! You seem to have that drive, focus, and determination to do what needs to be done!

Cheryl Good job on getting out for a walk even on your day off (especially in the rain). I have been on the fence about the CE mag for awhile now and I am looking forward to getting it. I think I am too late to get the one that would be out for the holidays in my subscritpion so I may have to buy it since I am hoping they will have some clean eating holiday dessert recipes.

My DH doesn’t like to eat healthy most of the time either. He will go in spurts were he wants a small salad with dinner (of course the salad is drenched in Ranch dressing ) and will eat a high fiber cereal to help when he is having digestive problems. Those times usually last a week or two and then it is back to pizza, Chef Boyardee, and Hungry-Man meals.

Debbie That is much easier!! :D I am energetic some days and other times, I force it. Sometimes I do extra not out of energy but to try to increase calories burned or improve my performance (like adding pushups everyday)! Hope you get your run and upper body workout in today!

I work as a project coordinator for an insurance company. Even though I don’t always love my job, the company is really great to work for with many opportunities to move around and develop myself.

Well, I better get working. Have another busy day today! Hope everyone enjoys their day!

Julie Great job on your workouts yesterday! You inspired me with your toe push ups, I did all 40 of mine on my toes this morning. I even did the first 20 straight :D The last 20 I did in 2 sets of 10. I was so happy!
I LOVE SJP! It's a really good wo. The step is not my favorite of Cathe's step wos, but it goes by pretty quickly. I'm not sure exactly what my cat's cue was because he never even came into the room until I was doing the stretches at the end of the workout. I think it must have been something about the noise I was making! Now that I'm doing this bonus burn he's all confused though so he either comes in too early or doesn't come in at all and just waits for me to come downstairs. They are so funny.

Janie Are you saying that Rolly didn't enjoy his shots? :p Poor little guy! I'm glad to hear that he is doing better with his duty (or should I say doody :D?) I hope you 2 enjoyed your long walk! I did go look at that sourdough site last night. Yikes! It is a bit intimidating! I started reading one of the sections but it sounded so complicated! Hopefully mine will turn out ok.

Helen On the names thing, Janie taught us a little trick when I first joined this check in. If you click the Off button at the bottom of someones post it will include their post in your answer, then you can keep up with who said what when you are typing your response. It works great and I just delete as I go.

I know what you mean about having everything. This is the first time in my life that I have actually had to pay attention to what I eat so that is a bit of a struggle for me. The other thing that works for me is that I have to weigh myself every day and make adjustments as I need to (like in the last couple of weeks!) It's definitely a daily struggle though!

That is the biggest problem with family events - they are all about food and drinking! Ay yi yi. Hang in there this weekend!
Sorry to hear about your back, I hope it isn't anything serious and goes away quickly, but you are smart to take it easy. I hope you are able to do that leg workout today!

Cheryl Sometimes I like having days with those shorter workouts although sometimes I feel guilty about short workouts too.
I kept telling myself that when I didn't have to drive kids to school anymore that I would start going back to the gym some mornings. This is the year, but so far I haven't felt like dragging myself to the gym! One of the problems is that the workouts are never as good as Cathe's. I really did enjoy all of the people that I met at the gym though. Maybe someday....

Debbie I think you are smart in doing what is right for your son and his needs. I think sometimes parents push their kids into something they aren't ready for and it hurts them in the long run. And how nice that he is enjoying it, I'm sure that makes you feel better.

I love to cook and I really like to experiment with new recipes. Some of my friends think I'm crazy because I'll have a dinner party and make all new recipes but so far I've been lucky. There have been a few that I wouldn't make again but no real disasters (at least at the dinner parties, there have been some disasters for the family!) I love epicurious.com and allrecipes.com and I subscribe to Bon Appetite and Fine Cooking, but I'm always looking for new recipes. I don't really like to bake as much. I play with baking a little bit but I really prefer to cook, I think because you don't have to be so precise with measurements. How about you, what do you like to cook?

Oh yes, I love Steely Dan. We saw them in concert a couple of years ago and they were just so good. They are one of my favorites!
Yes we are in the US, we live just outside of Raleigh, NC. I hope things workout for your brother. My DH travels quite a bit because his team is all over the world which just seems to be normal anymore. He also does a lot of customer visits.

I feel for you and your kids. I can't imagine how difficult it would be living with an addict or a recovering one. I know that can really affect their lives. My ex's father was an alcoholic and he had some issues that he just couldn't get over as a result. I feel very lucky that I have 3 wonderful step-children. They are just amazing kids.

I hope you get your workouts in today.

It was Imax3 for me this morning and then my bonus burn. It felt good. I talked to Eunice on FB. She STILL hasn't gotten her express shipment! That doesn't sound like an Express to me. And she said it will probably be a month after that before the rest of her stuff gets there. Crazy! This post took me forever to write so now I need to get to work. Have a great Friday everyone!

Did ME today and walked Rolly for about 30 min. Dogs are out lately and have manged to avoid them. I should probably make friends with them and give them treats so they don't bark so much. I'm so frightened of big dogs to the point of panic. If I slowly work myself to doing this, maybe life will be better. A challenge. Or, I can drive somewhere for 20 min. and walk a well known path that has a leash law there.

Helen, You are in control, it will be just fine. Have a few treats and get back to having control again. You are a part of this party and you deserve it. Afterwords, get right back into the business of health and fitness. As long as there are just few parties, what is the harm? Oh, Oh, I sure hope your back is not hurt. Stretching is good, slowly and softly.

Cheryl, Great job on your rainy walk. Proud of ya.

Debbie, Your husband has an OK start, but eating correctly pays off better than shakes. But then again, if that's is the only way he will start a weight loss program for just a short time, I see no harm in it. As soon as possible he should eat nutritious organic foods. He will feel so much better when he does. Will he be exercising too?

Hang in there, life is hard sometimes, but you seem strong. Your children will see that wonderful part of you and will to some degree mimic that. You just might be a life saver and don't even know it. We are here for you, no matter what. Recovering addict, be proud of him to want to change. I hope he makes it. He has a very tough road ahead of him.

Julie, Great job on those KM and pushups. Wow, I'm impressed. You are gaining strength. Well done!

Your honey needs to know that once a good habit is established he may very well enjoy good old fashion home made meals instead of store bought junk foods. He will also feel the difference in his health right away. Store bought foods are literally addictive, and it's always hard at first. Occasionally it's OK to eat them when at parties and certainly not everyday. I hoe for his health sake you can convince him of this. Poor guy, he dosen't realize the potential health hazards he is putting himself through.:( Oh, Oh, Am I preaching?

Pam, Great job on SJP yesterday and Imax3 this morning. If we silenced everything in our workout room (except us) and just did our workouts, it most likely would have humorous sounds. LOL Lots of grunting noises, umph, ou...too funny!

Sourdough needs to be learned one section at a time. It's doable and challenging, and if you like to cook/bake as I know you do, it is a lot of fun.

Tell Eunice hi for me and that she is very missed. We can't wait to hear from her when she can.

Have a great Friday everyone, sorry about the preaching this time around. I don't know what got into me.

Janie

Did PS Chest Shoulders and Triceps today.

Debbie Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your children. I hope you can work things out with them. It can be tough to have a recovering addict as a father.
At least your husband is trying something. I really wish mine would. He doesn't care if he eats right or not. His favorite foods are hot dogs and chips with dip.
I hope you got your workout in today. That can always help with the stress.

Julie You are doing really good on the push ups. If you keep up with the push ups I am sure Meso 1 will be easy for you. I have the new CE mag and I there are a few dessert recipes. I think there was one for apple strudel which looks good.

You DH sounds like mine but mine won't eat a salad either. He love pizza hot dogs and chips. He isn't healthy but he doesn't seem to care. He says healthy food dosen't taste as good as the junk food

Pam You are right sometimes shorter workouts are nice. My reason for not going to a gym is the same as yours, the instructors usually aren't very good. I think we have gotten spoiled.
I remember seeing Steely Dan at a concert about 15 years ago. It was really good. We had won tickets to see them.
I still can't get through Imax 3. Maybe one day.....
I can't believe that Eunice still doens't have her stuff. That is crazy.

Helen How is your back doing?

Have a great Saturday everyone.

Julie It looks like our posts crossed again yesterday morning, I almost missed your post since it showed up before mine.

Great job on your push ups yesterday. I hate to say this, but I'm not sure those meso 1 push ups will ever be easy I'm sure that all of this work will make them easier though :p

I guess I am lucky with my DH as he eats pretty much whatever I serve him! This summer I got on a kick of doing a big salad for dinner one night a week and he loved them. Of course they were very hearty salads - I did antipasto, cobb, chef's, grilled chicken caesar, etc. I put them on one platter and then we would sit beside each other and just eat off the platter. For some reason since we were sharing he liked it more

Janie It sounds like you have a good idea for making friends with the big dogs. It is a shame that people can be so rude about something like that though. You should NOT have to drive somewhere to walk your dog! In our old house we had next door neighbors who had 2 labs and they left them outside all day while they were at work. They had a fenced backyard but one of the dogs barked non-stop when they were gone. When they were home the dog didn't make a sound so they didn't even know it was happening until we told them. It would drive us crazy. The houses were close together there so we would be sitting out on our deck with friends and this dog would just bark his head off at us. At least these owners cared and tried to do something about it (although they weren't terribly successful!)
Your comments on the noises in our workout rooms made me laugh. I don't think I want a recording of that! It made me think of some of those tennis players who make sounds when they hit the ball  Sometimes I'm yelling at Cathe when it takes me too long to change the weight on my barbell.

I did relay your hello to Eunice and told her about the new check in group. She said that she may be getting her express shipment on Monday and if so she will have her computer so will be back.

Don't worry about the preaching - it's just genuine concern because you care!

Cheryl I bought a copy of CE magazine this summer and I was surprised to see that I eat pretty clean. I had always been confused about clean eating really is, I thought it was a lot more complicated!
We have definitely been spoiled by Cathe! It's hard to go to just any class after working out with her for so long!
How nice to win Steely Dan tickets! I think we've seen them about 4-5 times now and they are always so good. Some of these older guys have started to lose their voices, but not Donald Fagan, he still sounds as good as ever!
For some reason I don't find Imax 3 as hard as the other 2  although the plyo jacks are always a real killer!

Helen I hope your back is doing better, were you able to do your leg workout yesterday? If so I'm guessing major DOMS are in store today!

Hi Debbie I hope you are doing well!

This morning was muscle max and then my bonus burn. The bonus burn was really hard after MM! I wasn't able to do all of my push ups on my toes after that one! The good news is that the scale has been moving in the right direction this week. Whew. Now I just need to keep working hard today to get ready for that lasagne tomorrow. Cheryl, I made the ricotta yesterday and it was really easy and tastes really good! I can't wait to try it in the lasagne. Now I'm going to go finish getting the house decorated for Halloween. DH gets home this afternoon, Hooray! Have a great Saturday everyone!
