Looking for "no equipment" cardio

I don't have step equipment, and don't plan on having it any time soon-I've just recently started exercising soley to home video and I'm really enjoying it. The most concessions I've made towards purchasing equipment is a 5 pound set of weights and a floor mat. (actually, the floor mat was a gift. My knees are thankful)

I've got some tae bo tapes, and Kathy Smith cardio, but I recently ordered Kickmax because everyone says Cathe has tough work outs and I wanted to be able to throw a higher intensity workout in my line up.

What tapes can I order as well that have long cardio sessions that aren't step and don't require special equipment??

RE: Looking for

Now that it's Spring, take it outdoors. Go swimming, start a running programme, try power waling. No equipment needed except correct clothing and footwear.

RE: Looking for

These are just some other options to consider that require little/no equipment: Have fun!

CTX Kickbox has a half hour of medium intensity kicboxing

The first half 30 min. or so) of Maximum Intensity Cardio has INTENSE hi/lo aerobics (no equip. needed). The second half in INTENSE step in case you ever decide you want to start stepping, but it could also be done on the floor and still get a decent workout.

Circuit Max is a GREAT circuit workout that has a longer hi/lo section in the beginning then 6 kickboxing/step cardio cycles separated by compound upper/lower body weight exercises done with fairly light dumbbells, so your fives would be perfect. Again, anything done on the step could just be done on the floor and the workout would still be great and intense. This comes in at just about an hour. There is some chest/back/core work at the end which requires almost no equipment.

Cathe 1st half of MIC (35 mins) of hi-lo. The hi-lo portion of Step,Jump and Pump... it's short (about 18 mins and the last segment is very low intensity. I usually double up the 3 segments and do that last segment as a cooldown). I love Kick Max Drill section... it's high impact, high intensity (15 mins). SOmetimes I do SJP hi-lo followed by KM drills.

Another I enjoyed very much is P90X Plyo X DVD.

RE: Looking for

Actually, the reason I've been so happy about home video workouts is because I can't run-I get severe shin splints. And of course, along with 80 percent of the population swimsuits aren't fun to wear in public. I am not outdoorsy.

Thank you, for all of your suggestions. I love, love love cathe's videos. They're so professionally done-and I love the premix and mix and match features. Of course, I do think some of her moves are out of my league but I hope to one day be able to follow along like a pro. Any tips on becoming better at it?? Some of the legwork combos (kick max) leave me in the dust, and I feel it's compromising my "cardio fat burning" time.

My question is-I'm not terribly out of shape cardio wise, but the section at the end of cardiomax with all of the jumping is way out of my reach-too high impact. If I did decide to buy a step, would I be better off with beginner series?

RE: Looking for

Well, really the only way to get better is to practice, practice, practice. View the video multiple times, getting up and just doing the moves--you shouldn't consider this your "workout" for the day, use another video for that, but just learn parts of the video that you have trouble with. This way you'll still be getting in a good workout while building up your repetoire of videos that can give you a great workout:)

This is the best way to learn the step videos as well, b/c at first you'll be so busy learning it will be hard to concentrate on the cardio factor.
That said, I would suggest, since you say that you aren't terribly out of shape cardio wise, that you start with a harder video (like Step, Jump, and Pump+Step Blast DVD, or Cardio and Weights+Imax 2 DVD) and just modify those moves that you aren't able to do yet. You might progress past the beginner DVD's too quickly and then need harder cardio right away. Especially if you can do KPC, Cardio Kicks, or Kickmax, then you definitely want to go with the harder videos.
But you really should think seriously about a step, it opens up so many avenues for you cardio wise and it is SO MUCH FUN:+ :+ :+

RE: Looking for

When you do decide to buy a step, I would purchase the full length step. Only because if you get addicted to Cathe's step routines (which is pretty much unavoidable) you will be better off with the longer one. When you are ready to purchase one, check out e-bay. I was able to get mine new for under $60.00 and that included shipping (it came with 4 risers, two for each side).

Jenn:)
