Limecat's Wednesday Wondering

First Line :

In the beginning God created the heavens & the earth.

Last line:

The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen.

I know Liann's!!!

Hint: "Hero" keeps wife in the attic!

ETA: I found the last line, Liann:
"My Master," he says, "has forewarned me. Daily He announces more distinctly,--'Surely I come quickly!' and hourly I more eagerly respond,--'Amen; even so come, Lord Jesus!'"

Wow, that's the last line of my book? I thought it would be something a little more romantic than that! ;)

First line: "The primroses were over".

Last line: "Hazel followed, and together they slipped away, running easily down through the wood, where the first primroses were beginning to bloom".

I keep a copy of my favorite book in my car for emergencies.

Well, Nance got one of mine, so I thought I better hurry and post before someone else takes my other choice. :p

First line: "When he was nearly thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow."

Last line: "He would be there all night, and he would be there when Jem waked up in the morning."

I love this one, too, although I confess I don't have an emergency copy back here next to the spare tire and the tire iron...

I don't have the last line, but here are the first two lines:

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters."

Nance, I just finished reading that book for the first time! It was really good! :)

I'll have to get the lines of my all-time fave when I get home, but here's one that has recently become a fave.

"The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane."

"All was well."

And this would be my favorite book as well. :)

Here's one of my faves...

"It wasn't a very likely place for disappearances, at least at first glance."

"And the world was all around us, new with possibility."

Weird...I JUST finished reading this one for the first time last week. I really liked it!

Lisa, you will get hooked. Do you have the others? I've read them all at least twice, except for the last one. And I'm thinking about starting them again. Love, love, love, me some James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser:)

This is definitely one of my faves as well. And DH and DD too. But I think my favorite is:

First line: "Harry Potter was a highly unusual boy in many ways."

Last line: "And, grinning broadly at the look of horror on Uncle Vernon's face, Harry set off toward the station exit, Hedwig rattling along in front of him, for what looked like a much better summer than the last."

(But I think book 7 has better first and last lines...especially since they don't actually mention Harry.)

Jodi - I'm surprised yours isn't...

"Humans are not proud of their ancestors, and rarely invite them round to dinner."

I thought about quoting Hitchhikers, and I actually just re-read all of them, but all in all I think I like Harry Potter better. The first couple of Hitchhikers are pretty good, but I never like any of his endings. It almost seems like he runs out of steam at the end and just kind of wings it. JK Rowling does much better endings!

What Miss Lee said!!!

What are yours, Shell?

PRIDE & PREJUDICE? Right? My copy is in a box in the attic but it sure sounds like it.

The first and last lines of Joyce Carol Oates THE TATTOOED GIRL don't tell you anything about how excellent the book is but here they are:

First Line: "He had known it must happen soon. And yet he wasn't prepared for it happening so soon."
Last Line: "Grossman began to ask another question in his bossy-lawyer way and Jet interrupted, "It's over. There's justice now."

Well, Miss Fancy Nancy already quoted Pride and Prejudice so I'll do my other favorite:

1st: "On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays it was Court Hand and Summulae Logicales, while the rest of the week it was the Organon, Repetition and Astrology."

Last: "The cannons of his adversary were thundering in the tattered morning when the Majesty of England drew himself up to meet the future with a peaceful heart."

Those are from The Once and Future King.

OK. Here's mine:

Here is an account of a few years in the life of Quoyle, born in Brooklyn and raised in a shuffle of dreary upstate towns.

And it may be that love sometimes occurs without pain or misery.

Anyone read it? It won a pulitzer prize....
