Lifting like girls

Oh yes the whole children growing up thing! Mine's 21 and I still want to vet the boyfriends (luckily the current one is my favourite so far). I've only one daughter, so I have to try uber hard not to be too protective. Karen's right about it being a different era now, with social media etc. Glad I didn't have to deal with that.

Day off today (10 mile walk, yesterday was 12 miles)- even my dog is tired! Still have doms though.

Karen, your dogs probably have better dentistry than I do ;)

Roz, Tom. I'm considering ditching this check-in and going to a beginner's one. That 225 squat???? I hope your doms are really, really painful, and last for days.....(ok I'm jealous). Great work. Roz, I'm going to come and watch you in your first power meet. You'll need a manager, stylist, nutritionist, driver, and a general dogsbody- I'm happy to be dogsbody. Tom, Lisa, lib, Karen -which roles do you guys fancy?

Right, I'm off to load up on calories before tomorrow's deadlift session.

Xx

Hi everyone! Sounds like you're all busy!

Lib, GL on that quiz. You'll make it through with flying colors. Really -- you've been on STS for 3 weeks? Where does the time go?!

Lisa, oh my, yes, the rolly-polly age! Wow, what a big girl... is she 9 mos yet?
You'll get to ICE in good time, I've no worries there... ;) and yes, I'm excited to bust out some Live workouts these coming weeks... I'm thinking about revisiting BB upper body at some point. I remember liking that one.
Also, I can't wait to check out some of your lower body Live recs. I never feel like I have 'room' in my heavy lifting programs for more leg work. But I should just suck it up and be tough like Karen and do GG after a brutal lower body workout... (speaking of Karen, great work as always, woman!)

I can't even wrap my mind around having an ACTUAL big kid... geez. It's scary.

LOL, Justine, I don't have any dogs but you will absolutely be my dogsbody. I like the idea of competing on some level, but then, putting on spandex and lifting in front of a bunch of bros is something I feel decidedly lukewarm (at best) about.
You are seriously killing it with your workouts. I'm huffing and puffing just thinking about your Nia workouts. Do you think those DOMS are coming from all the time under tension of HTS?

Tom, woah, killer leg workout! No doubt you'll be feeling that one... great job.

Today was my final workout of my... um... program that hasn't been Off the Floor for a while. I tested BB push presses, worked up to a single at 120#, backed off for a few sets of 2-3 at 110#. Then a superset of BB rows (4x10 at 110#) and parallel bar dips (4x6) and a superset of bench press (3x6 at 100# then 1x13 at 80#) and concentration curls (3x6 each side at 30# then 1x17 each side at 20#). Had fun! Took a few notes from Karen's playbook. :) I think in the coming weeks (after a deload), I'll do more of this type of work.
Oh yeah! And I did the first 15 mins of ICE metabolic total body as a finisher. It was fun!
I think I'll wait and maintain my weight during the deload then start my cut and ramp up training at the same time. Just feels less stressful that way... plus I've got some triple creme cheeses and Nutella to polish off before I get down to business... :) Plus I get a full month of maintenance and plenty of training stimulus during my cut.
Snowed yesterday... who likes dieting in snow, anyways?! :p
High fives all around,
Roz

Must run... really not sure what the coming week holds for me, workout-wise.

225 was as parellel as 135

Tom, sweeeet!!! Major major accomplishment. Your numbers are blowing my mind. What was the song dedication on the radio to your son? I've just got to know!!!

Then I had to explain dating.....then we looked it up on google

Lib, you're gonna have trouble because it sounds like your son is a cutie. I agree that they will always be our babies...no matter how old. But aren't we lucky that we have Google to help us with our parenting dilemmas? ;) Great work on your STS progress!!! You'll do great on your quiz, for sure.

You'll need a manager, stylist, nutritionist, driver, and a general dogsbody- I'm happy to be dogsbody.

Justine, 22 miles walked in 2 days. Why didn't you just do 4.2 more so you could call it the full marathon? Geez! ;) I volunteer to be Roz's agent and legal counsel. Should make for some interesting pro bono work.

Karen, how are your puppy's teeth? I've always wanted a dog, but then I remember how expensive they can be and by golly, my children are expensive enough!!!! At least for now. Great DIY workout again!

Roz, Nutella must be eaten before you undertake cutting of any sort. I'm pretty sure that's one of Newton's Laws. :) Karen and Justine can verify. Are you finding the creatine beneficial? Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Lives. The Live leg stuff really is my favorite, closely followed by the circuit/metabolic Lives. Yep, DD2 is 8.5 months. She's enjoying rolling 180* as opposed to the full 360*, stopping at the tummy of course of course, and is rocking the Alfalfa look from The Little Rascals. My babies come bald and what little hair she does have on top always stands tall and spiky. I've shown her pictures of Kate and William's little royal Charlotte (who is about the same age and has an entire head of hair, ahem!) but DD2 continues to rebel and remain bald.

Today I did Cardio and Weights Live (5/29/2014). Roz, I think you've done this one. Have I recommended Drill Max Live yet? I almost did that one today but it was a bit longer and I didn't have enough time.

Lisa, it was a Heart song...All I want to do is make love to you ( not sure that's the official title). Should be front and center on every 8th graders mind!! The good news was he only wanted to play football and basketball!!! Really freaked wifey out though!!

Hi everyone!
Quick check-in for me today. I got Afterburn in (trying to be like Karen) -- with some toddler-induced, but not unwelcome, breaks. Whew!
OMG, I am getting nervous about the teenage years from this thread!!
Lisa, can't wait to try the new Live, ITA! And Happy 9 Month Birthday in advance to your cutie pie DD2 :)
'See' you all soon!
Roz

Shoulder day for me, 13 sets strict press, didn't get past 115, finished with 7 sets at 100, in the 3 to 4 rep range. Rear felt flys, 40s,3x12 dumbbell shoulder press 40s x15 x12x12, front raise/ side laterals combo 3x6 ( only used 15s) dumbbell shrugs, 1x10, 1x20.(90s) I finished with some band work. Karen, my wife called the station and they apologized because they weren't supposed to use last names, son #1 couldn't have cared less!! Have a great Thursday everyone, I guess none of us won the powerball :( therefore must find solace in iron!

Hello all,
HTS again today- main lift being deads. Roz, you asked whether there was a suggested rep range, there isn't, but there is a rate of perceived exertion given for each exercise. So, bearing that in mind, my dls weren't that heavy. RPE was supposed to be 7 (compared to 8 for the paloff presses), and they are 'technique focussed dls'. Soooo, I did 4x5 @77kg. I can get good form at this weight, and I guess I'll just keep nudging the weight up until they're no longer 'technique focussed'. The rest of the workout was good, but nothing of note (although it did contain TGUs which I love).

Roz, good going with afterburn. I daren't get that one out at the moment!

Tom, 13 sets of anything is amazing, let alone presses.

And Nutella? Now we're talking!
It's just started snowing here, with strong winds. It was a very cold dog walk this afternoon!

Xx

Good morning everyone! This has become sort of a rest week for me. Wasn't planned, but too much going on, and only getting in the morning workout. This morning was another "mish mosh" of the glute kind. Now I'm sitting at my desk. Just finished my morning latte, and I'm eating chocolate covered espresso beans. At this point, I think I could fly! Anybody need their house cleaned? I'm sure I could have it done in 30 minutes, including floors and windows. These things are so good, but better put them away for now.
Great shoulder workout, Tom. Looks like you have found your groove,
Roz, good on ya, I'm sure that Afterburn, will soon be one of your favorites.
Justine, your walking just amazes me. Do you have a group, or do you like just being with your own thoughts? Both are good, for me, just depends on my mood.
Lisa, glad to see you have survived the dreaded gombu.
Nice work with STS, Lib
Guess I will get to work, if I can concentrate. I'm bummed I didn't win Lotto. Nice retirement, with money to share with friends and charities. Like Tom, I will find solace in iron.
Have a great day, everyone!

Back to edit. I didn't see your post, Justine. I must have been writing my own. Nice work. I love TGUs too.

they weren't supposed to use last names,

Tom, they said his last name on the radio???? Geez, I would've been miffed too! I remember my (much) older bro getting a mixed cassette tape with lots of love songs on them from a girl. We also got TP'd and all that jazz by girls. I was never 'that' kind of boy crazy girl. Fingers crossed my DDs won't be, either.

Karen, rest weeks are best enjoyed with anything chocolate. What kind of choc espresso beans do you like? I love espresso the drink, but have never had espresso the candy. Is work crazy busy again?

Waves to Lib.

Justine, not so backward after all in your country--you've got Nutella!!!! Great workout, technique-focused stuff is so good for us but so easy to overlook. I'm greatly anticipating your post-HTS thoughts. How much time have you left in the program?

Roz, Afterburn. Oy!!! For me, it's the burpees and mountain climbers. I've surrendered to dealing with squat presses and the like since Cathe does them excessively in Live routines.

I did my fave PUB today. Wish we would've won the Powerball but we are dunderheads who forgot to even buy tickets!!!!!

Sorry all. I am exhausted. I can barely walk now....from Tuesday's leg day. The dvd's came in.....but I am going to bed. I will check them out tomorrow.

I have been running for 13 hours on almost 3 hours of sleep. I am putting in my notice for two of the four jobs. It's only week one of classes and I'm dying.

Oh, and the professor cancelled the quiz today......the quiz is part of why I only got 2 hours of sleep last night.....ugh!

I'm fine, silly, and extremely exhausted. Leg Doms suck at school with so many stairs!
Good night.

Just popping in to say I've done a HTS today (main lift was hip thrusts 4x7 @ 77kg- should have gone higher, hardest lift was straight arm land mines).
I'm off to North Yorkshire for the weekend, so there'll be no workouts, but some lovely walks.

Lisa, not buying tickets for the powerball probably just saved you the ticket price ;)

Lib, shame the quiz got cancelled after you'd done all the prep.

Nutella- I went to Piedmont once, where the stuff originates from, and I returned about 20kg heavier! The entire region makes Nutella-type spreads, some of them even better than Nutella! The region has been making the stuff for centuries, but it took an enterprising mr Ferraro to get us all addicted!

Have wonderful weekends everyone
Xx

Gave the old elbows a little work today, and they held up pretty good. Was able to do barbell curls,up to 95x5. I was surprised since I hadn't really done many heavier full curls in awhile. 5 sets of barbell curls 2x75, 1x85, 1x95,1x85. 5 sets of tri pushdowns, 3 set of dumbbell curls x8, 3 sets skullcrushers x10, 3 sets conc curls x8, 3 sets of kickbacks x10, finishing with 1 set x30 feet on bench tri pushups and 2 sets of hammer curls. Justine, enjoy the hangout, and everyone have a great weekend!!

Justine, have a terrific walking adventure this weekend!

Tom, great work!

What's everyone else up to?

Today I did XTrain AOLIH Extreme Cardio premix, 53 mins. Wasn't really all that extreme, just contains the floor cardio 2x (at beginning and end).

Hope you all have a wonderful, Iron lifting/walking/resting/whatever weekend!!!

Happy Saturday all! Quickie bwt w/o for me today, taking the fam to Tampa to hit some sites and find an indoor pool! ( surprisingly few in Fl) I decided to do pushups, squats, single calf raises, planks, and single and double glute bridges. On pushups, squats, and calf raises, I did 30,20,15,10, with 30 sec or less rest. Planks were 5 min, and 1 min each leg glute bridge and finished with a 2 min double glute bridge. Had to do SOMETHING!! Have a great weekend!!

Hi Commandos!
No workout for me yesterday.
Today was a gentle squat deload. 115# for 4x5 then I did band-assisted wide-grip pullups for 3 or 4x5. That was it. Tomorrow I'll do a bench deload, just some easy benching and maybe some pushups.
I'm not even doing a full 7-day deload, so I'm really trying to get my recovery in.

Lib, sorry about your sleeplessness and school frustrations. :(
Lisa, great job on AOLIH -- love that one but have never ventured the Extreme premix!
Karen, have fun with your guests!
Justine, great job on HTS and have a great adventure! Nutella's a killer, no?
Tom, awesome workouts. Enjoy FL with the fam!

Next few days will be really busy. Next 'real' workout may be Tuesday. I promise I won't disappear! :D
High fives,
Roz

Justine, forgot to ask--Mr. Ferraro of Nutella fame, is he the same kind gent who brought us Ferraro Rocher chocolates? I'm guessing yes since the chocolates are hazelnut + chocolate, although there are more flavors than that now. Which came first--the chicken or the egg? er, the Nutella or the Rocher?

Roz, nice deload for you today. During your deloads do you do extra stretching, foam rolling, etc? Good luck with your busy-ness. Hope it's all the good stuff and none of the yucky stuff.

Karen, whoa. Q-tip cleaning? You are either a soldier at heart or you really love your guests. Can we bounce a quarter off your cleanly made-up beds, too? Have a blast with your visitors!

Tom, I'm pretty sure the only kinda pool I would want in Florida is an indoor one. Who wants to swim with the gators? Great bwt for you today!

Lib, hope you're getting the rest you need!

I wanted to do a Live this morning but our Internet was wonky, which happens every time we have a storm. I pulled out Athletic Training. I always want to punch people in the face when they say this is an intermediate workout. The first 30 minutes are nothing shy of brutal. Roz, I was thinking the short 10-ish minute step portion at the beginning of this workout would be a great, low impact cardio finisher.

Be back on Monday, my Commando pals.
