Lifting like girls

Howdy, Iron Nation! Amazing workouts from everyone.

Tom, busting it out--and even at the Y on vacation!

Justine, rocking it with HTS. Sorry about that tooth! Awful! I hope you were at least eating something wonderfully delicious and crunchy. Are the stereotypes re: poor dental care really true? :( I'm still not sure why Reese's hasn't flooded the market shelves in England. Poor business decision on the part of the PB cup world. I really do want to send you some. You can PM me your address and I will 100% do it.

Karen and your mish-mosh, make-'em-up and make-'em-killer workouts! (sometimes those are the best, especially when you are in a kick your own a$$ kinda mood) Not sure why Winter is hitting you so hard. Boo! We've had inversions but have been snow free for a couple of weeks.

Lib, you won't regret buying STS. I've used it so so so many times. I use individual workouts when I'm not doing an STS rotation too, esp the legs. How did your weekend reading go? Did you get your schedule worked out for the semester? Thanks for sharing your career goals. You have such high and noble aspirations. Amazing!!!

Roz, you OK? I imagine you're super busy.

Thanks for all the get well wishes. My Commando pals are so supportive. Feeling better, about 90% back to normal! Had a good, busy weekend but still worked out. Fri = LBB. I had major DOMS from this. Weird since this one never makes me sore. Sat = GS BSB. Today...ugh, when will I get to ICE? I did LIC b/c I had no idea if I would need another rest day.

Have a lovely evening, friends.

England doesn't have peanut butter cups? I think I might cry. That is sad.

Lisa, that was part of why I decided to just purchase it. I finished half the reading. Hard to get into before school even starts......sigh. I am seriously thinking about moving legs to the day after back and triceps. As far as classes,im pretty set so far just have to figure my internship hours.

Been tired all day. Hate being so cold, it really slows me down. Makes me just want to sleep all day.

Welcome from sunny ( but cool) Florida! Back day today, and I did do 3 sets of chins 1x6, 1x8, 1x6 and It didn't go too badly, but didn't push it. Next I did DL's finished with 285x3 and 235x6. I didn't have a belt, so didn't really push this either. Dumbbell pullovers, 3x8-10 with 40s, and I did do 2 sets of dumbbell rows 70 x10 x8. Next was 3 sets of lat pulldowns at 120. For abs, I did 3 min planks and 2 sets of pulley crunches. I, too was sorry to hear about Bowie and yes it does make one consider their own mortality! Karen, Congrats on the Doms ( we are SICK PUPPIES) and Lisa, glad you are improved!! Justine, hope the tooth is back to good! Anyone put out an APB for Roz?? Hope you are well girl! Have a great Tuesday Warriors!!

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA -- I have a lot going on AND my daughter seems like she's in a stage where she needs 110% of my attention, so it's hard to get away to post. Glad to hear you're all still killing it. :)

Justine, sorry about the tooth! But man, those HTS workouts sound really great. How does he discuss weight selection? Does he use percentages or is it just 'find the right weight' as with other programs we've done?
Yes, the cut has some around fast! I think I began maintenance around Dec 20 so in a week or so it will be a month. My weight feels very stable right now, which I think is the goal of maintenance. I'm not fighting to maintain (in either direction), and it wasn't a very serious massing phase, so I'm guessing I'm good to go. I might decide to give it another week as I deload in the coming week. Not 100% sure yet.

Lisa, I also love Bowie. He was a true artist. It's so odd to think that someone who was so often reborn/who so frequently reinvented himself can be really dead. So sad.
Really glad you're feeling much better. :)

Karen, wow, you've had some really amazing workouts! Fabulous deadlifts on GSF2. I love the sound of your DIY circuit, love all those lifts. I may steal that idea in the coming weeks.

Tom, nice job getting your bench work in in FL! Great work!

Lib, I hear you on occasional internet woes with streaming. Glad you're getting STS. As Lisa mentioned, the workouts are great to use even when you're not doing a full STS rotation. Great work on legs today!

I have two workouts to report. Today I did a little yoga and am resting.
Sunday was bench (last workout), I worked up to a single at 130#, so 5# over last week. It went up slow, but I did get full ROM (bar touching chest up to full lockout). Then backed off for a little more volume, but not much. I did all the same accessory work I've been doing for chest: close-grip bench, flys, skull crushers, front raises.
Yesterday was deads, I worked up to a single at 310#, 10# above last week. I was very happy about that. Backed off for a little more volume, but as with bench, not much. A superset of thrusts and chins, then just some light band work because my low back was pretty pooped out.
So I'm happy to say my 'total' is 640#!
I still have one more workout to do, OH pressing, probably tomorrow. Then I know I need a week to deload. I'll probably do 3 or so lightish weight days, just to drill technique, and maybe some metcon and/or cardio. Not sure about my next program.
When I start my cut (OK, maybe I'll wait a week till after my deload... what do you think? Any insight?), I'll probably just train by the seat of my leggings for a few weeks (well-rounded, but not preplanned, training), lots of volume. Then, I don't know... I might do UP or write my own program and use a lot of the info from UP (love their warmups, etc.). I feel like I know my needs better and better these days. There's also a LOT of really great info on programming from the Juggernaut people (Chad Wesley Smith, etc.), definitely worth looking into. But I won't start the next thing (UP or my own plan) for a few weeks.

OK, must run... my daughter is speaking in tongues to me! Sounds like naptime...
High fives all around
Roz

Hello from the third world country (dental care IS bad, and Reese's only sold in a few big shops in London!) and when we produced a great musician (Bowie) he moved to the US!! My teenage years were spent listening to him (and the Rolling Stones). RIP ziggy.

I'm ceased up with doms, and I'm not so sure why they should be so bad. Lisa, you mentioned bad doms from lbb. Funny how they can strike for no reason. I'd love to do a study on it ( with you guys as the Guinea pigs, of course).

Lib, glad you're getting noticeably stronger. Just wait until meso 3 and the strength phase...you'll be killing it.

Karen, I'll probably get some of Nia's new stuff, but not this month's. Kinda got a list as long as my arm, it'll see me through until September! Are you getting them?

Tom. Sunny Florida? What's sun? I've forgotten. I love 285# being 'not pushing it'. I dream of that number.

Roz. Wow. Bench. DL. Total. Just wow. Would you like me to tell you my 1rms so that you can use them for deload? I need to get my numbers up, I seriously do.

Today I did a quick Nia body weight workout. 24 squat jumps to 'prime' the system, then 20 minutes of : side lunges (12 per side), 1 legged push ups (x12) and face pulls (x12). Managed an extra circuit compared to last weeks (9x through). Then did 5 rounds of jumping jacks (x25) and high knees (x10). THEN I did a day's walking, then straight home to tutor for an hour. I've just sat down and collapsed!

Glad everyone seems well.

Roz, yay, you're back! Missed you, girl! I get the whole "everyone needs all my attention all the time and everyone needs 10 million things from me all at once and ALL RIGHT NOW!!!" feeling. Even when we don't hear from you, we know you're lifting semi trucks and causing fitness mayhem in the streets. I'm impressed that your DD speaks in tongues, BTW. My DD2's latest thing is to roll.over.to.her.tummy.all.the.time. Unfortunately she does not believe that she can roll back to her back, so the routine is: put her down on her back, she plays happily for .0004 seconds, then immediately rolls over to her tummy and hysteria ensues. Happening right now, so here I go to get her for my favorite 1-handed typing...

Back, and w/ 1 hand only and a baby sucking her thumb on my lap.. Justine, cool Nia workout and imagining that your "day's walk" = 5 or 6 miles? Am I remembering right? What do you tutor--math, science, engineering generally? I'd love to be a part of your DOMS study.

Lib, how wonderful to see progress, yes? Motivation to the millionth degree. Yay! Keep it up. :)

Tom, did you say 285???? How's the elbow doing? Jealous of FL. What part are you visiting? I've dreamed of moving there but my DH is an R&D engineer, very high tech stuff, and there's really none of that in FL. When do you get back to real life?

Karen, how are you working it today? What's up?

Today I did Mish Mosh Legs Live (10/29/15). Second time doing this one and it is not easy. Lots of burning moves and she hits the same body part several exercises in a row, so there really is no break. Roz, I'm thinking Cathe Live will be a great tool as you fly by the seat of your leggings (which really means to train with brilliant intuition and natural balance for a pro like us Commandos!).

Take care, my friends!

Missed you, Roz! Florida? Bring back the sun and warm weather! PLEASE!!!!!! It was finally nice enough to ride, but, my battery for my heated gear kept cutting out, so couldn't ride.

Have to brag, my son (oldest) got to play the last 5 1/2 minutes of the "a team" game today....and made a basket! So happy for him. He did great. Then, when he came out of the locker room after the game, a group of about six girls started saying "there he is! Hi Thomas!" I will never get used this! He's only 13....I know, I know, but he's still my baby.....

Not sore yet.....weird

Good morning everyone! yesterday was a rest day for me. Work included. I had to take one of my dogs to the vet to get his teeth cleaned. Yea, I know. I had a bunch of errands to run as well. This morning was a mish mosh of upper body, supersets. My glutes are still sore from a few days ago. So, I am giving them a rest for awhile.
I don't think I am going to get Nia's workout this month. I'm with you, Justine. I have enough programs to last for several months.
You should definitely give that workout a try, Roz. I think you would enjoy it!
I'm with you Lib. Sometimes, it's hard to let go. We look at our kids, and still see baby.
Sounds like you are all well, and definitely kicking it.
Have a good one, all!

Today was leg day and I really feel like I was able to bust dese legs " da freak up"!! I had a squat rack with a safety rail, so I figured if I lost it, it would be ok. I went 135x5, 155x5, 175x5, 185x5, 205x5, 225x5. Now there were not completely parallel, bot 225 was as parellel as 135. Next was barbell calf raises 225 x 20 x20 x15. followed by reverse lunges, 95# 1x6x7x8. The Y had a leg press machine ( never used these before) and did multiple sets from 180 to 450, all sets x8, last x6. Next I used a hyperextension table (also new to me) 1x10, 3x8, supported knee raises 3x8, single calf raises, right 3x25, left, 3x30, and finished with 2 sets of goblet squats, 45# dumbbell, 2x12. My legs are jello!! Whew!! Felt good (I think??) My prediction for the rest of the week is PAIN!! Lib, we woke up one morning to an on air declaration of love for our oldest son! He was in 8th grade!! A young girl dedicated a song to him and said she " really loves him" ....WHAT!!! Wasn't ready for that either. Lisa, I did some more lat type stuff yesterday and survived, got some good lat doms, yay! The real test will come Friday. Karen, Justine, hope doms are better, Roz, girl..you are heading to 700!! Your bench is going thru the roof, and you just started! 310 dead! You have a real shot at 700!! Gotta be fun watching it develope, I'm having fun living vicariously through your journey! Competion may be in your future?

That's it! I'm destroying all media, electronics, and putting him under lock and key!

Of course, I probably don't have to......he doesn't really get it. About a year ago, he came home and asked what it meant if a girl says you're mine. I wanted to say, run fast! But I explained how girls are interested in him, and what the girl meant. Then I had to explain dating.....then we looked it up on google.......which actually had an answer for his original question!?!? Just after summer, he said another girl asked him if he liked her. I asked about his girlfriend. He flatly said, we broke up before summer. Then said, " she liked someone else, so I told her he was hers now. I am not hers." LMAO!

I never know how he will interpret something.

My legs are feeling the burn from yesterday. I have to admit Cathe makes me not hate leg day! ....just the day after! Lol

Okay, I am sick of reading! Ugh. Classes started yesterday, and I have a quiz tomorrow? This class is going to the the death of me. Finally two days of warmer weather, and I'm stuck reading.......one more semester.....one more.......two months until warm again......two more

And one more week of metocycle one! Ha!

Good luck with the girl, boy thing, Lib. I still can't decide if girls or boys are worse. For us, it was before cell phones, and we finally had a separate phone line installed for the kids. Then, they had five minutes on the phone, that was it. Mom was real MEAN, and hung up on a couple of chatty girls. But, everyone lived through it. Was iffy at times. When I think back, I was the same way, at that age..So hard to believe.
