Levitation holds in Core Max?

I'm having great difficulty doing this move and getting frustrated. How can I get my feet off the ground? I'm an advanced exerciser and have been doing your workouts for 4+ years. Help! I hate not being able to fully complete an exercise. Any tips? thanks.

I'm not Cathe, but it took me a long time to figure out hand placement for these so that I could get off the floor. I really had to play around a lot, and then one day, I just magically lifted right off the floor. I know it's frustrating, but it might help to just play around with it when you're NOT doing Coremax. I work out on carpet and found that I can't do them on carpet, I have to move to a part of the hardwood that it uncovered.

Hope that helps a little!

Here's my cheat. Sit on your step with your feet criss-crossed out in front of you on the floor. When you raise up, your feet will come off the floor and you can focus on getting them higher. That way, at least they're up as opposed to "resting" on the floor.

Finner-

I also found that if I do a more "yoga" like position -- i think it's called a "lotus????"--- rather than just crossing my legs, that helps alot.

ALso I take my shoes off and that helps for some bizarre reason.

good luck!:)

I also do them in lotus position and barefoot. I asked Cathe about this. She said it is modified position and we're still working the core.

I hope this isn't cheating but I have to be up on my fingers or fists as opposed to my hand being flat.

I do them while holding my largest neoprene-covered dumb bells (9lbs). The extra 2" of elevation helps a lot. My Yoga Shakti DVD shows Shiva Rae using yoga blocks as a modification if needed.

I had the same frustration until I tried it in lotus pose (your feet crossed on top of your thighs). I can get off the floor no problem in lotus. Plus I think doing the rest of Core Max strengthened my abdominals till I could get off the floor enough.

Sami,
As I see them do it, Cathe and the crew are using their fingers to hold themselves up also.

Your "cheat" sounded like an excellent idea so I tried it, but unfortunately my a$$ exceeds the width of the step and I can't get my hands underneath me to press up. How are you managing it, or are you one of the lucky women here has a tiny tuchus ;) ?

Also, does anyone besides me think that those of us who are heavier are going to have a harder time lifting up than women who weigh less?

I mean, I weigh 173. Is it reasonable to expect that I can lift myself off the ground?

Don't feel bad, I can't do this move either. And I dont think it has anything to do with my weight. I'll have to continue to work on it, but some of the stuff that Cathe does, I just can't do it.

Fitstick -

Thanks for the post! Like you, there are things in the workouts that I will keep trying at, but probably won't master. And a lot of times I'll think - Why am I stressing over this - LOL!

If I never do a levitation hold, does that mean I'm less fit than someone who can? Not necessarily, right?

So I'm gonna be on my deathbed saying - "If I could've just done those levitation holds, I might have lived two more days!" ;)

I can't do them, but I challenged my husband and sons to try. My husband could do them for a very short time and one of my sons mastered the hold immediately. Someday I'll get it!

Thanks so much for this suggestion. Believe it or not - of all the moves Cathe has on all her videos and DVD's - and I have them all - this is the one move I have not been able to master and it is frustrating. I'm going to try your cheat and see if that helps me to eventually do the levitation move the way they do it in Core Max.

Thanks again!
:) Sharon

This is a yoga move and I find the only way I can do them is by sitting in a cross legged position and placing my hands on my yoga blocks on each side of me.

Sit on your step length wise. Sit in the middle so you don't tip one end up by being off center. But the step is about 3 feet long, and I KNOW your a$$ isn't more than 3 feet wide. I also put a towel on top of my step because the little nonskid grooves can be a bit uncomfortable when you're pushing down with your hands. And, BTW, I so wish I was one of the lucky tiny tuchus women. But I'm working it! Good luck!

OH HAHAHAHA - what a dork I am - I thought you meant the MINI Step!

(smacks head)

Yeah, but sometimes it FEELS like it's three feet wide! Snort!

Yes, they don't bend at the wrists, but at the joint where the fingers meet the hand.

Also, you don't HAVE to get your feet up to benefit from the move. And maybe some people are built so that it is much more difficult (if not impossible) for them to do it.

I'm sure you'd agree that both Rhonda and Brenda are in great shape. If you look at them doing the levitation holds instead of Cathe, you'll see that they don't keep their feet off the ground at all times.

;-)

Do the levitation holds hurt your wrists? It seems like they would.

CoreMax is my next purchase, I hope!! I just ordered the body blast series so I'm on probation...}(
