Let's talk about some FUN movies!

>Johnny Depp & Traci Lords weren't in the original
>"Hairspray." They were in John Waters' movie "Cry Baby." The
>original "Hairspray" had Ricki Lake, Sonny Bono, Deborah
>Harry, Jerry Stiller, and of course, the wonderful Divine (may
>she/he rest in peace) and was far from dark. It actually was
>really funny and it was Waters' first mainstream-type film.

It was the first TRULY mainstream film, although with Polyester he was getting there. If anyone hasn't seen Polyester or Hairspray (the Waters version), run, do not walk, to....uh... the Netflix website.

> "Mama's got hamper’s of ironing to do, and my diet pill is
>wearing off!" One of my fave lines of Divine's in
>"Hairspray"!!!

I love that line, teresa. I think my fave is when Edna is trying to explain to her husband why their daughter likes to do those rock 'n roll dances: "Wilbur, it's the times. They are a-changin'. Somethin's blowin' in the wind. Fetch me my diet pills, would you Hon?"

I was wondering when you were going to chime in Ms. Nancy! I think you probably love and appreciate the original "Hairspray" as much as I do!

DH actually saw Polyster in wonderful "smell-o-rama" when it was first released!!! I regret never having that unique experience! ;)

Okay, now I want to see "Pink Flamingos" and "Female Trouble." (running off to upgrade my Netflix queue!!!!)

Geez...I have laughed out loud just reading the words!

How about this exchange:
Tracy:I'm an integrationist. We shall overcome someday.
Beatnik Chick (played by Pia Zadora, for god's sake): Not with that hair, you won't.

I agree...Best in Show!!! I've seen it so many times. My sister and I quote lines from it all the time!!

I also love the first Austin Powers. My 2 sisters and I were driving to the beach and we memorized the scene where Dr. Evil was in therapy and talking about his childhood. We are often asked to recite it at family gatherings.

A couple of my all time favorites that I never get sick of watching...

The Forty Year Old Virgin
Office Space

Both crack me up every time I watch them!!

There are so many good fun movies to bring a smile to your face. When I'm down I always throw in: The Emperor's New Groove, and The Road to El Dorado. Although cartoons, they are totally geared for adult humour.

Saw "Jumper" yesterday (on DVD unfortunately...). Such a fun and "crazy" movie! Too bad I didn't see it on a big screen... the effects blew my mind off!

OMG! Nancy, something about your post jarred my memory & I remembered what I found so offensive about that movie. It was that foul, disgusting creature Divine. Why foul & disgusting? Not b/c of the clown face makeup. Not b/c of the beehive hairdo.

It was b/c of another movie I saw her in when I was a kid, where she ate dog poo off the ground. Yep, right off the ground, real dog poo. It was one of the nastiest things I'd ever seen. Forget Sleepers, that scene has haunted me my whole life! Anyone that desperate for attention or for a laugh (altho there was absolutely nothing humorous about it) has some serious issues.

Laura, I have heard about those early Waters movies, and I know the titles, but I have been warned never to see them, and I never have. Sorry you were exposed to that! :(

I absolutely love Hairspray every bit as much as you do, and I also saw Polyester in smell-o-rama. I really don't think you should rent PF or FT though. Check out Laura's post above.

Divine eating dog poo was in "Pink Flamingos."

I miss Divine. "Hairspray" was his last film with Waters. As much as I like "Serial Mom" and "Pecker," his movies just aren't the same without Divine.

Oh, and do you remember the episode of "All in the Family" that Divine was in? Archie gave her mouth-to-mouth thinking she was a woman, and isn't really pleased when he finds out the truth!

I've already seen them...it's just been a while. I love that Tab Hunter is in "Female Trouble!"

Yep, it might just be a John Waters marathon weekend at my house!!!

One of my faves of all time is First Wives Club with Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn. OMG how I love that movie. I think I've seen it 47 times.

In the movie, Bette Midler's character Brenda runs into her ex-husband Morty who is dating Sarah Jessica Parker ("Shelley"). Brenda sees Morty at an event:

Brenda: Where's Shelly?
Morty: In the car.
Brenda: Glove compartment?

I saw a VERY funny movie this weekend - Adam Sandler's "The Zohan." I LOVED "Happy Gilmore" but thought most of the others by him were only so-so. "The Zohan" was very funny. I was not disappointed.

I took the kids to see 'Kung Fu Panda' this weekend and really enjoyed it. I didn't think I'd like it very much because Jack Black gets on my nerves but I really liked him in this movie. Very funny and has a good message. 'Iron Man' is another one I really enjoyed. I can't wait for the 'Get Smart' to come out this weekend. That one looks hilarious.:)

I rented 'The Sixth Sense' last night so my 16 year old DS could watch it with me. I had forgotten how good that movie was and how surprised I was at the ending. It blew my son away he really wasn't expecting it to end like that.

Laura- I agree with you on the new 'Hairspray'. I love that movie and have the soundtrack on my ipod.

Jacque:)

The Ref- with Dennis Leary. Absolutely hilarious, although the language is a bit colorful for youngsters.
