just started 4 day split

Hi Cathe,

I just started 4 day split and I love it but I am really sore. I usually do your step workouts from FitTV but my DH bought me the 4 day split as a gift and I told myself it is time to start lifting weights along with my cardio. In the past the only times I used weights was with your cardio and weights workout and the boot camp workout on FitTV. Other than that I usually do the step routines and Kick Punch and Crunch.

I have a few questions.

Does it matter which order I do the workouts on the 4 day split?

Should I do just the 4 day split in a week or should I do 2 days of the 4 day split and then mix some of the other workouts from FitTV like Step Blast and Imax 2, etc.?

I am having a hard time with the push-ups. I am doing the bended knee version but I am still struggling. Does it just get better with time or is there something I can do to make it better.

Thanks for making such great workouts.

the push-ups will get easier over time. just keep doing them on bended knee as best you can, for as many as you can. once you feel comfortable, do them with a weighted vest on, this will help you get to the point where you can do them on your toes. don't worry about being sore, take an extra day off for recovery. i think you will love 4DS once you comfortable with the routines and the premixes are great.

Thanks for the encouragement with the push-ups. I guess practice makes perfect. LOL. I don't have a weighted vest but if I get one I will try it. I am really enjoying 4DS, I was so nervous to try it out but now I am so glad I did.

Thanks again,

There are lots of fun ways to use 4-DS. I do it as is once a month. But, I sometimes use the premixes so that I do the cardio at one time (2 workouts) and the strength at another so I can get more cardio or yoga. I like that its complete. I don't feel like I missed a body part. I'm not to the point where I can do all of the core work at once :p

My once/month rotation:
Day 1: HIS
Day 2: Short run/walk 30 min. (intervals)
Day 3: LIS
Day 4: BC
Day 5: KB
Day 6: off
Day 7: Long Jog 60 min. (steady state), Yoga

Or using premixes:
Day 1: AM: HIS/LIS cardio premix PM Chest/Back Premix
Day 2: AM: KB/BC cardio premix PM Legs/Core Premix
Day 3: AM: Jog, Cycle or Walk 45 min. steady state, PM BI's and TRI's
Day 4: AM: Imax of your choice PM Shoulders/Core premix
Day 5: AM: Kick Max
Day 6: AM: Easy yoga
Day 7: AM: off

This way you get 5 cardio workouts not just 4 short ones. Of course, you can use it any way you like. Do you swim? Maybe work that in or horse back riding or even a heavy day in the garden.

Push Ups

Hi Loralie -
It's taken me 4 weeks to build up to 10 regular push ups and then I do the rest on my knees. When I started I was falling down after 5 pushups on my knees. If you stick with it, you'll do a little more each time!

I HATE anything with the word "UP" in it --- push UPS, sit UPS, chin UPS, pull UPS ---

HAHAHA!!!! :D :D :D

xx, Denise :)

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I was doing well last week but then this past week I was not feeling well and I kinda got off track. Today starts a new week so I guess I will just start the rotation again.

Can't wait to see improvements in the push-ups.

Thanks again,

Loralie
