Just not losing weight :(

I could really use some suggestions. I'm doing the 6 month rotation. I started March 1st. I run on a treadmill/incline 40-45 minutes twice a week...so I'm exercising 5 days a week.

I definately notice changes. I feel stronger. I am able to do all the pushups cathe has us do!!! and my boyfriend is really noticing the muscles changing underneith my skin. He can feel them.

But I don't think I've lost ONE pound. I don't weigh in but my pants sure aren't getting any looser! I want to firm up and KNOW this program is the best thing I have done for myself in years, but I really need to lose some lbs to feel better and to fit into my clothes.

Any suggestions?

I agree with Christina. I know a lot of people do not believe in logging food, but you need to do it to see what your are eating.
It's the only way to know for sure if it's your diet that needs tweaking or your workout.

I am in the same boat - I feel stronger, but I tried on some things I wore last summer and could not get them on!!! I am thinking I may have to shelve the STS program and do more cardio to see if I can get some pounds off. I was just headed to the rotation forum to see what I can find. I think the heavy weights and more workouts with them is just not what I need right now.

It is all in the food you eat. DIET!! I did 6 weeks of STS with lots of cardio and lost zilch!!!!! I started to do the Clean Eating Diet on March 16, and I have lost 12 pounds so far. It is what you eat 80%, exercise 10%, genetics 10%.

I have to agree with others that it really is about the diet. I just started week 1 of mesocycle 2 (I'm on the six month rotation), and I lost 14 pounds during the first mesocycle (and about three inches off both my hips and waist). But I know that has to do with me logging my calories every single day. I start each day by projecting what I'm going to eat for the day, and that's what I eat for the day. I don't deviate, graze, snack, etc. And the system of counting my calories and holding myself accountable to those calories has really worked wonders for me. Even though I'm at my goal weight now, I plan on doing this everyday from here on out just to keep me honest about what I'm eating.

yeah, its about the eats.

Its true. Everything everyone else has said is true. The weight loss is about the eats. Are you getting enough protein? I don't know how much you weigh. But, I aim for the same number of grams of protein as my goal weight, which for me is 130. Are you getting 130 grams of protein everyday? Are you getting two cups of leafy greens? Have you shifted over to all whole wheat or whole grain? Do you know to not eat instant oatmeal? Do you know to eat only whole fruits not dried? I don't know what the specific issue with your diet is (just a word for what you eat btw.) but I do know that the issue is probably there. Usually its a lack of protein and healthy fats. Also, for me safflower oil makes me get fat I don't know why but it does. Soybean oil has the same effect. I don't think its your workouts that are the problem at all. Are you getting any yoga? I know I go on and on about that, but its really a key element for me (don't know if it will work for you.)

hi.. i just want to echo everyone here. i workout every day including running 3-4 days a week and STS 3 days a week. i also walk my dogs & baby in the evenings. if i go over 1800 calories a day, i will put on weight. i gain easily, so i track everything i eat every day. it works!

Alas, my days of being able to merely increase the frequency & intensity of exercise in order to lose weight have gone! ;)

I lost 30 lbs in 2007 & it was by keeping track of what I eat via Weight Watchers in addition to exercising 3-5 days/wk. I have re-gained & lost the same 10 lbs from early 2008 through now. The times that I lose those 10lbs are the times I'm writing down everything I eat/track points (calories). The times I gain are when I stopped writing & just try exercising more/increase intensity.

At first with STS, I was hungrier, so I allowed myself to eat more. But while I have had gains in strength & muscles feel more toned, my weight hasn't really budged (although I did notice I lost a inch here & there). So, now, as of Monday, I'm back to writing down everything & attempting to limit myself to no more than 1500 cals/day. Although I know it's a good sign that I lost an inch or so, I am not happy with my current wt. My BMI is right at 30 & I know that isn't healthy. So, back to keeping a food log! I also try my best to eat clean, but may allow a treat every couple of days (as I did in 2007--the wondrous year of weight loss!) I think that's okay (in moderation) as long as I stay within my caloric limit each day. There are some website that help you figure out what your daily caloric requirement is--- www.freedieting.com is one of them. It also gives a good run-down of various diets/food plans.

Dang you guys. Such great answers...but not what I was wanting to hear!
I could probably lose 5-7 lbs and though I don't eat sweets, soda, graze or just snack, maybe I don't get enough protein, I DO eat instant oatmeal, and don't get enough vegetables at all.

I'm 47 so the weight sure doesn't come off like it used to. I really thought I could start working out again and it would leave....it hasn't!

I'm going to log onto the sites you've recommended.

Thanks!

I am also struggling with the weight loss. Part of the problem that I have is that I don't like fruit or a lot of vegetables. I guess it is a texture issue that becomes a turn off for me. I drink a lot of water all day long, I don't ever drink any sodas. I think I would feel better about myself if I could just lose another 5 to 10 lbs of weight. I have lost 45-50lbs a few years ago, when I first started doing Cathe's workouts, but have gained back the 5- 10 lbs I need to lose. I have been doing STS and Friday I will be done with Meso 2. I did lose a couple of pounds in Meso 1, but struggling to lose more weight. I have read the Abs diet book, and typically eat most of the power foods that they recommend, but doesn't seem to be working. Any suggestions will be most appreicated!!

Is instant oatmeal really that bad?

I know I've seen this discussed on another forum thread but am asking it here because I can't find the thread - but is instant oatmeal really that bad?? I eat clean, cleaner since starting STS but really do love the weight control oatmeal even though its more processed than the plain stuff. If I am eating good amounts of protein, leafy greens and whole grains, is having instant oatmeal because I love it really that bad for the diet? It's better than a carb-filled bagel with zero nutrients or something, yes? I am also a fan of protein-rich protein bars but like oatmeal and banana for breakfast too(at least during the week, weekends I have eggs)...someone fill a sista in!

Instant oatmeal has a considerably higher glycemic index than old-fashioned. I dont' think it is THAT bad for you, but if you have the choice, go with old-fashioned. Your blood sugar levels will be more stable.

I eat instant oatmeal too. I get the lower sugar variety. Not sure how that ranks in the scheme of things...

Try Bob's Red Mill steel cut oatmeal! I have never been a big oatmeal fan until I found this. It's much less processed and tastes great. It takes longer to cook (15-20 min), but to me it's worth it. I love it with blueberries, raisins and walnuts. You can add a little honey or maple syrup if you need it more sweet, but I find added sweetener is not necessary if I include raisins. DH makes it every morning while I'm in the shower. (He also makes me a salad and half a sandwich for lunch, and packs the kids' lunches as well - what a guy!)

I get organic oatmeal - regular - from Trader Joes. It only takes 5 minutes to cook - no need for instant oatmeal.

I really, really recommend Tosca Reno's Eat Clean book and cookbook. Since I started eating this way, I'm seeing the weight finally come off - and I am NOT craving sugar in the least. I actually have trouble eating all the food on some days.

I just wrote a post a few weeks ago that I was totally opposed to the "eat every 2 to 3 hours." Now - I'm a big fan! :)

Wow...I'm so amazed. I've always thought I really didn't eat much at all. I don't snack, like sweets, drink soda, etc. but like I posted, I wasn't losing weight. I just started seriously working out. On disc 9 of Meso one (6 month cycle) but I was hoping to lose weight fast.

You guys lead me to some great sites on healthy eating. I started logging my food on livestrong.com and I'm amazed. Food adds up quickly!!! I'm on a 1500 calorie a day schedule which should help me lose 2 lbs a week....

I'll keep you posted but THANKS so much for the guidance. It's really amazing to log food and see how easily the calories add up! I really recommend anyone that's not seeng the weight loss use these tools for awhile.

I can feel the muscles building from STS. When I lose the fat I'll be feeling GREAT!

Steel cut oats

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried making a larger batch of steel cut oats and just rewarmed them with fruit and a little milk over the course of a couple days? If anyone has done this, please share if this was a good idea...otherwise I will just give it a go!
thanks!
(great ideas here! I need to get a little...OK a lot...more serious about diet-why work out this hard if I'm not going to feed my body right!)
julie :D
