Just not losing weight :(

pharoah, little snacks and a bite here and there do add up. measure out your portions also, it's surprising what a 1/2 cup brown rice or ww pasta really looks like.

julie, I was going to ask about the oatmeal. I was wondering if I could make it the night before atleast so it's quicker to grab in the morning. If noone else chimes in, keep an update of how it goes.

I picked up a rice/oatmeal cooker, and use it for steel cut oats. Often I'll make a double or triple recipe and freeze part in a small ziploc plastic container, or even a small freezer bag. While I don't think thawed steel cut oatmeal tastes quite as good as fresh made, it doesn't take long to heat up in the microwave, and I prefer it to most instant oatmeals. But then, part of what I like about the steel cut is the denser texture :)

I add my fruit, yogurt, and any other extras after thawing, unless I'm using frozen fruit, and in that case I just zap it all at once.

BTW, if you use a rice cooker for steel cut oats, make sure it's rated for that! Not all of them are. Mine is a Zojirushi. I have it not because I am a good cook, but because I am an inattentive cook - my model does everything for me. Just add oats/rice/etc, water, press button, and leave it alone til it beeps. Perfect rice or oatmeal every time.

Hi Julie and others -

I am very opposed to using a microwave and use it very little - only emergencies. Because the steel cut oatmeal (actually they are groats!)take so long to cook, when I do make it, I make a large batch. To reheat, I heat it up with some soy milk on the stove and it works just fine and tastes great!! Just like you are thinking of doing.

I recommend giving it a try.

nightowl, a tip on the oatmeal. what i have done is take a thermos, put the oatmeal, and whatever you add to it, and very hot water. let it sit overnite. stir it up in the am and it is ready to eat. it worked very well for me. it is still warm enough to eat with it being in the thermos

oh and , i do use the old fashion, not instant and it works fine. not sure if they are steel cut or not

very true. pasta has 200 calories in 2 ounces - this is a tiny portion! carb calories add up quick..

Make sure your diet is as clean as it can be (already posted here - I know you know that!!). That's very important. But make sure on your cardio days you are "mixing" it up a bit. Make sure you do a variety of cardio -- not just treadmill, running, etc.. Include some high intensity stuff in there as well (such as one of the Imaxes, Cardio Fusion, too many to name). Not sure what DVDs you have, but I get the best results when I rotate my cardio. I'm also doing STS, so on my "off" days I'll do step one day (did Body Max 2 step this week), Kick Box another (4DS Kickbox, and then treadmill or bicycle work. I've seen that this is good for ME to see results (we're all different). I also mowed the grass today (I don't have a huge yard, so it wasn't THAT much of a cardio workout), but I went ahead and included that in my workout schedule (good thing because I had to go back to work and after taking several phone calls, etc., I didn't have time to work out!). Make sure there is variety in your workout since your body adapts to certain workouts over a period of time.

Also the scale can be deceiving -- trust me! I can gain or lose 5 pounds in a day, so I know it's water weight when this happens. Also for me, it's hard to gauge my weight loss with the way my pants fit because some days the scale doesn't say I'm overweight, but my pants say I am! This is just because I'm carrying extra water weight (something I've always done!). It's frustrating. Just keep doing what you are doing -- the good thing is, is that you notice the changes and so do other people. I wish you the best of luck -- keep us posted on your progress!

Julie
