Jogglers January 2013

Its a new year!!! I spent today relaxing. I did have some ice cream(organic, just 100 g.), nuts (unsalted), and some crackers. But, thats the last splurge for two weeks. I'm really digging into the South Beach. I did not do yoga yesterday. I will do it today. Tomorrow will be a hike. Its clear and cold.

Have a Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year!

Back at work today. :( I already took down the Christmas tree this morning at the office. We usually have an intern take it down but I don't know if anyone is going to be around this week.

I took a rest day yesterday but actually worked in my mom's yard for almost 2 hours so I wasn't exactly on the couch all day. The walking trail that we have spent the last year (on and off) clearing was finished yesterday. YIPPEE!! There is still so much to do in her yard but she walked around it yesterday 3 times. We had to move her fire pit but we are going to rebuild it in another area of her yard.

Tonight will be a 3 mile run. I'm excited that January is here and that the days are getting longer again. I have a half marathon in February and after that I'm going to do more endurance workouts on the weekends or on Sunday in place of a long run (these will be runs but with other exercises mixed in).

I am working to tweak my diet a bit and will limit my carbs to only one meal a day. I got a $300 gift card for Xmas from work and I think I will be putting that towards a Vitamix. It's really hard for me to make dinner at night and many times I'm just not hungry or too tired to make something so I might replace some of my nightly meals with a smoothie or shake.

Alisha ~ It's ok to enjoy yourself on the holidays! I'm not even going to tell you what I ate yesterday.

Hi Tricia.

Happy Jan. 2!

Jane-I love smoothies! I made one yesterday with blueberries and yogurt. It was tasty and not too high in calories or carbs. I also love this time of year because the days are getting longer again. It is sunny, clear, and cold. I don't mind cold if I can get sunny.

I missed yesterday's workout. My left ear flared up red, painful, swollen. Bah. I took some vit. c, magnesium, and zinc. Its better now. I'm eating well this morning. I started with an ounce of almonds and some yogurt. I'm sipping on 'Zen' tea. Its a little too cold to go outside right now. I will do a workout and I will do a workout tomorrow. It depends on the weather as to which one I do, it is sunny, so I'm leaning towards going outside.

My hrm has a dead battery, I have to replace it. Luckily, the FT4 was designed to replace the battery. I had a F6 (little red Polar) but when the battery died, I tried to replace it but it never functioned properly again. :( I was so mad at Polar after that, I went without a HRM for a while, but my fitness took a dive because I find them to be really motivational, especially seeing my 'calories' burned. I do like my Garmin for outside (which reminds me, I should charge it.) But, it gives me a lower number for the calories burned, so for that reason I do prefer the Polar:p

Tonight is Tabata Thursday. I hope the rain stops and I can workout under the carport.

20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest (6-8 rounds).
Do the entire set of 6-8 rounds of one exercise before doing the next one.

Deadlifts
Swings
Squats
Swings
Rows
Swings
Plank taps
Swings
Push press
Swings
Floor press
Thruster

Alisha ~ Hope you get your hrm fixed. How is your ear?

Hi Tricia.

Day 3

I enjoyed yesterday's hike and stretch. Today is Buns of Steel Six and Cathe's Yoga Relax 28 min. premix. I spent the morning lounging around, watching tv. After my workout, I will get a smoothie, and get to work on some papers that need sorting. I plan to have turkey, green beans, and some cuties for dinner. Tomorrow will be a kick box workout.

I've been letting my workouts slide into later in the day, its not really a good habit for me, because then I allow myself to skip them. I need to do a meditation tonight so that I get back in the habit of workouts in the morning. That is a much more reliable time for me to workout. The only thing that I won't do too early right now is a hike/jog, its just very cold out there. It was still cold in the afternoon.

Jane- My ear is looking great. I don't know why it flared up. But, it seemed to respond to the vit. c that I took. I ordered the battery for my HRM, I had to order it online because its not available locally. I did charge up my trusty Garmin for going on hikes, but it doesn't work in doors because I can't pick up a satellite.

Tricia- I hope you find the new thread.

TGIF!!

I am taking a rest day. I have a 5K race in the morning.

Last night's workout was a killer. I guess adding in weights really makes a difference. I subbed Russian twists for the thrusters at the end. This was the hardest Tabata workout I've done. I alternated on the swings by doing H2H and 1-arm swings.

Alisha ~ I'm glad the ear is better. I would think it would be easier to do workouts in the morning just to get it over with. I do that on weekends but during the week I just can't swing it. I already get up at 5:15am so after work is better for me.

Have a great Friday!

I plan to go for a hike instead of doing a tape today because the weather forecast has changed. Now its supposed to rain tomorrow. I want to take advantage of the sunny day and go outside instead. I will do 'Weight loss workout,' which is hi/lo and strength training, tomorrow.

I started the day with yogurt/almonds, right on track. I plan to pick up some sushi while I am out. I have to go to the library, pick up my Dad's meds, and then I will get my hike in. Its too cold right now, its in the 30s. I could do it, but I will wait until its warmed up a bit.

Jane- I wouldn't be doing a workout before 5 am either! No way! That tabata workout looks like a tough one. Enjoy your rest day.

Alisha

Hi girls and Happy New Year! For crying out loud! I could have sworn I posted this week. I'm not starting out too well in 2013!

Alisha - I hate when my batteries die on my workout gadgets! Have you gotten it yet? Glad you've been able to get outside! It's been way too cold here until today! Brrr! Highs around 20 and lows in the singles to 12 at night. Even kitty came and slept with me this week and under the covers, too!

Mmmm, sushi!

Jane - Congrats on finishing the walking path! That took a long time! You are going to love your Vitamix when you get one! I use mine all the time and it's so versatile! That looked like a great tabata workout!

Good luck in your 5k tomorrow! How many can you do before you are running like the Flash and you can't PR any more? ;)

Well, you will be proud of me! I completed a full week of 6 workouts in Cathe's XTrain 90 day rotation! Woo-hoo! I think the nature of these workouts (less equipment and shorter, except for leg days) is fitting in with my schedule really well. Tonight is my rest day and I'll pick up week 2 tomorrow. I also straighten out my food for good next week with another round of raw food bootcamp! Since I've done it once, I get a year's worth of programs free so I can come in on any of the sessions. This will be perfect since I gained back 3 of the 4 pounds I had lost before Christmas.

Stephen let me get boxing gloves for Hard Strikes! I ended up getting pink like everyone else. I wanted to get the white ones, but they were $7 more! Really? That's okay. Pink is a good color! Loving Zumba Core! It is a major workout when you do the 20-60 minute sessions! I got that for Christmas and it's going to be my rest day workout from here on out. Not tonight though, my DOMs have DOMs! First week is always tough!

Anyway, we are finally warming back up a bit today. We hit almost 40 degrees! Not much of the snow melted though. That's going to take a little while. I can't believe its been on the ground since the day after Christmas, but that's about the time we got really cold!

Have a great Friday night and a fun weekend! Next week is going to be tough! It'll be the first 5 day work week in a while! :(

My Mom had some terrible cramps and I gave her some airborne and potassium last night. I didn't feel comfortable just leaving her by herself so I stayed up to make sure that they didn't come back. Not absorbing potassium is common for people with IBS, and since she had an IBS attack yesterday, I suspect that is what lead to the cramps. I missed my yoga session.

I plan to do Kathy Smith's Weight Loss Workout mid morning. It is a combination of Hi/Lo and weights. I started the morning with some hi-fiber toast so that I would digest it before the workout. Bread isn't really on 'South Beach', I just wasn't up to digesting fat or protein this morning. I plan to workout tomorrow.

Tricia- My batteries have not arrived yet. Its both freeing and also lonely, <HRM I miss you!!!!> I love it: 'Flash, Flash Jane!!!' Of course there is always the stand by: See Jane, See Jane Run! I am so proud of you for working out so much!! Pink is great for gloves. My Mom had her first two days back at work and she is beat lols. At least it was only two days, I told her that its like workouts: getting started is the hardest part.

Jane- We could get you a t-shirt that says 'Flash Jane' but then, I'm afraid some people would get the wrong idea.

Alisha

Alisha - Sorry about your mom! Hope she's better today! I didn't realize IBS could do that. I only had a short spell with it years ago, so didn't do a lot of research and, back then, they also didn't know much about treating it either! Just after a week off, I had a hard time going back to work! I an imagine how your mom feels about it!

A tough night can do that to your dietary "needs." I find if I sleep poorly, I don't feel like making my usual smoothie or healthy breakfast. Don't quite know why.

Argh! No batteries! It is freeing, but where running is concerned I prefer to know the numbers!

I like the t-shirt idea, but, yeah, it could be ugly! lol

Tricia

Epiphany Day!

I wasn't raised in a religious home, and I just learned what 'epiphany day' was over on Pioneer Woman's blog. I always think that epiphany sounds like a great wood wind instrument, 'Hello, welcome to Carnegie Hall, I will be playing the 27th Bostonian Concerto for Epiphany.' :p Did I ever mention, I played violin and piano for ten years, most of it in college?

I plan to do Kathy Smith's workout today. I didn't want to miss the sun yesterday. Its supposed to rain this morning. I will workout again tomorrow.

Tricia- I need my numbers, I feel naked without them. I miss them. Its like having a running companion who all of a sudden decides to take a two week vacation and doesn't even call to say goodbye!:(

Jane- Did you get a workout today?

Alisha

Happy Sunday!

Yesterday was a 5K run at the Marine Logistics Base. Tricia, I thought of you the whole time I was running. It was a run for K9 for warriors so a great way to say thanks. This was the first year for the event and they did a pretty good job. There wasn't a clock (they did it old school) so I have no idea what my time was. The course was flat around the base but there were some weird trains tracks that I had to be careful around (I'm such a klutz). I finished 2nd in my age group but I didn't stay for the awards ceremony since the were giving medals but it was just a generic one and I already have a lot of those.

This morning I ran 11 miles. I felt really good this morning. It was around 50 and damp so it wasn't too bad.

Tricia ~ I am so proud of you! Keep up the good work. I'm not looking forward to the Monday and a 5 day work week.

Alisha ~ I hope mom is feeling better. I would love to go to the "Epiphany" concert but only if you were playing piano and violin. :) Maybe you could compose something and call it "Epiphany".

Hi ladies!

Alisha - I know what you mean about feeling naked without your numbers! I feel pretty blind myself working out without knowing what I'm burning and what my intake is. I used to use Lose It and My Fitness Pal to track my food and my HRM or Garmin for my workouts inside and outside. I know nothing now!

I'm not sure what the big deal with Epiphany is this year. I'm seeing it everywhere and it happens every year at the same time without any fanfare. Hm. I agree though If you were playing, I'd be there too!

Jane - Great job on the 5K and your run today! Glad you didn't take a spill on those tracks! That would have been nasty! Congrats on taking 2nd!

Don't get too proud of me yet! I was supposed to to do Day 2 of Week 2 today and flaked. I didn't even go grocery shopping. I'm such a lazy bum! That really is it. I just don't care to go, go, go all the time! I know people like that who get up and are moving and running around and driving around doing this and that all day long, then come home and clean, cook, etc. and they wear me out just thinking about it!:confused:

No sweat! I love this series and will be back on it tomorrow after the grocery store. It's a short one tomorrow, so I know I can get it all done after work! I'll just be a day off from my original schedule, but I'm not going to worry about it! "Just keep swimming" as Dori would say!

I've got to at least get productive for half the day each day on my weekends! Winter just makes me want to hibernate! I do better in the warmer months! It had snowed again this morning, only an inch or so, but still, I was cold and didn't want to go out in the slickness! Wuss! ;)

Well, have a great night ladies and I'll check back in with you tomorrow night! I'll be getting cranked up on my serious raw menu from bootcamp on Tuesday. I'll keep you posted on that and let you know what's good!

Sleep well! Jane - I'm not looking forward to the 5 day work week either! Ugh! :(

I'm planning on going for a hike this afternoon. Its supposed to warm up by then to mid 50s. I don't go when its in the 30s. I'm a wuss.

I spent all day yesterday working on paper work. Its tax season. My Mom's car's battery appears to have died. I will be going to the Walmart to buy a charger.

Tricia- <swish, swish> See? I'm swimming!

Jane- Good job on your race.

Alisha

Here is my workout from yesterday. I used heavy weights so it was a tough workout. I know I'm going to feel it today.

4 Rounds
20 Halos (10L/10R)
20 Presses
20 Push ups
20 Weighted Step ups (20 each leg)
100 Jump Rope

Today is a rest day.

Alisha ~ I hope you got mom's car fixed. I'm a wuss too. Luckily it will be in the 70's here during the day and the 50's at night for at least the next week. YIPPEE!!

Tricia ~ It's hard to workout when it's dark and cold. I think the body just wants to hibernate naturally.

Have a great day!

I will go for a hike, its nice and sunny outside. I will probably also workout tomorrow.

I did get my Mom's car fixed. Yeah me!

Jane- 70s! Wow what heaven that is!

Tricia- Did you get a workout today?

Alisha

Evening ladies!

Hibernating Tricia here! ;)

Alisha - Glad your mom's car is back to running! Batteries are at least an easy fix! What nice weather huh? Glad you got a good hike in! We're back in the mid to upper 40s again! Yay!

Jane - That looked like a tough workout! How do you feel today?

I'm still hibernating. Went to the grocery last night and came home later than I thought I would, so helped Stephen put groceries away and made dinner. Didn't want to be eating at 8:30 or 9 p.m. So, no workout. None today either. I'm just cold! Brrr! :(

Definitely synching back in tomorrow. That'll get that long leg workout on Friday night. No rush to get through. Maybe that's what I should have done when I started. Planned around the longest workout. Oh, well. Had my green smoothie this morning for breakfast, but going whole hog tomorrow. Had to look over the menu plan again to get my prepping sorted out.

Stephen left this morning for the White Mountains. He hike up to the tree line and camped out. He texted me around 5 p.m. to let me know he had the tent up. He's by himself, but he checked in with the ranger station at the base and left me an email with his plan. He'll hike around tomorrow and head back. I worry so much when he goes by himself, especially with snow down, but he knows what he's doing. I'd go with, but, as we are all aware, I HATE BEING COLD!

He'll be home tomorrow night. I love having that Find iPhone app! I tracked him all day to see where he was. It only lost him a couple of times. I'm impressed that they get such good cell signal up there!

I hope I can sleep tonight.

Well, time to go stir my home fries in the pan and let the pups in! See you ladies tomorrow! Hopefully, I'll be a sweaty mess! :)

I am going for a 3 mile run today. I'm still feeling that workout from Monday. Nothing bad just a little soreness in my upper body. My legs feel pretty good although my calves were hurting yesterday (I guess from jumping rope).

Alisha ~ I'm glad you got mom's car fixed. Yeah! Yes...it is suppose to be 73 today and the temps rise each day. They are forecasting 80's for the weekend. YIPPEE!!!

Hibernating Tricia ~ Looking forward to meeting "Sweaty Mess" Tricia! :p I hope Stephen is having fun camping. I would be nervous too but at least they have cell towers and you can track him.

I got my Vitamix today so if either of you want to share some smoothie recipes, feel free to share them. I probably won't have to time to make anything until the weekend.

Tricia- You will be warmer if you do your workout.;)

Jane- Jump rope always hits my calves too.

I may do some yoga today. I forgot to wash socks and I just can't workout without my shoes and my socks. I will workout tomorrow.

Alisha

Happy Friday!

Doh! The ice cream called my name, at least it was organic, I had it with some roasted, unsalted almonds, it was so good.

I did do some yoga this morning. This afternoon, I plan to do two 10 min. sections from Petra's 10 min. Ab solution and then 20 min. from Kathy Smith's Timesaver cardio. I also need to do a meditation. Tomorrow I will do MMA Boxing. Its a little cold to be outside.

Its nice and sunny and very very cold outside. It was well below freezing this morning. I still got the trash out anyway.
