Jogglers January 2013

Hi Alisha!

No kidding! I wouldn't know how to work it all in! Good luck with all the repairs and getting everything set up!

I have done nothing all weekend except grocery shop. It's nice!

Hi Jane!

Tricia- Have you had your thyroid checked lately?

At least you did lose a lb. I often have to work for a month before I find the golden combination of weight loss.

Btw, I don't recommend a water fast, thats just metabolism suicide.

Have you been getting enough coconut oil or milk? Thats great for keeping toasty and weight loss.

I do recommend trying longer cardio, closer to 45 to 60 min. Are you doing yoga? Thats great for raising body temperature and weight loss too. Do it all bundled up in front of a space heater.

I wonder if they make electric yoga mats?

Jane- I prefer to believe that when its 4 seconds difference, that its their equipment, not my feet;)

I plan to do a mid morning hike. I woke up too hungry to wait after a workout. I almost threw in the towel and skipped, but I don't really want to do that. My experience has taught me that a skipped workout never happens, something later in the week gets even more hairy. I will be doing data entry this morning, mid morning hike/tummy trimmer/stretch max, and yard work all afternoon.

My brother and I were at Lowe's until 8 pm, and then I stopped at the grocery store.

I'm weak:eek: I ate 3/4 of a carrot/raisin muffin from Mimis. It was so tasty.

Happy Monday!

Saturday was a rest day for me.

Sunday was an 11 mile run. I took a nasty tumble after mile 6 and skinned both knees, one palm and I have a few tiny scratches on my face. Luckily I didn't sprained or break anything. I've been running that route for years but I guess I just missed a crack in the sidewalk or something. I didn't want to quit the run but I had blood running down one of my legs so we called our other sister Mary and she came out and patched me up and off we went to finish the run.

The road rash is the worse. I did not sleep well last night because I had to sleep on my back and every time I woke up I could feel my knees stinging. It's a bit better today although I have my pant legs pulled up over my knees because it feels better. I have one righteous scab on my left leg.

Here is tonight's workout:

Kettlebell 1-Arm Press - 3-5 x10ES
Kettlebell Ab Extension - 3-5 x 20
Kettlebell Halos - 3-5 x 10ES
Kettlebell Overhead Sit Up - 3-5 x 20
H2H Kettlebell Swing - 3-5 x 20
Kettlebell Russian Twist - 3-5 x 20
Kettlebell 1-Arm Row - 3-5 x 20 10ES
Kettlebell Around the Body - 3-5 x 20
Kettlebell 1-Arm Floor Press – 3-5 x10ES

I'm off tomorrow because I have to take mom to her annual CT-Scan. They are usually slow so I decided to take the whole day off.

Tricia ~ Don't get mad at yourself regarding weight loss. I have noticed that diet is the key. I eat less now that I ever did. Also with my workouts I have added and am using heavier weights. I try to use weights with almost every workout I do except for running of course. When I use weights I use the heaviest I can managed without hurting myself. I also think it's our age and it's harder right now to lose weight. My workouts tend to be shorter intense workout except for my long run on Sunday mornings.

Alisha ~ Enjoy your hike this afternoon. You are not weak! Do you allow yourself a cheat meal/snack once a week? I find this works well for me and keeps me accountable during the week.

I will do 30 min. of Cathe step and Kathy Smith's Fat Burning Pilates for Lower Body. I haven't really tried that one yet.

Jane- Ouchie! That sounds painful. I hate road rash! Its the worst (short of burns). You can try aloe for the stinging (I buy mine at the dollar store.) Don't use aloe on your lips, I know a lot of people have it in their lip balm, but it stings a lot. I like the idea of a zig zag or cheat meal 1x/week. I will try that. After that injury I don't think I would have done a workout, you are awesome!!

Tricia- How are you today?

Alisha

I am taking a rest day. I was out all morning with mom and then spent some time at her house doing some chores. My knees are getting better. I was able to sleep last night and the stinging is going away. Both my knees were swollen under the road rash but the swelling has gone down as well. They tend to get tight when I don't walk around.

Alisha ~ That's for the aloe tip. I didn't think of that. I'm going to try it. I'm not sure about awesome. Maybe a little crazy but the workout did help to loosen my knees a bit.

Hi Tricia.

Hi ladies!

Alisha - I have had the thyroid checked. I'm pretty darn healthy. The only thing I can figure is that my GYN has me on back to back pills so I don't have a period any more due to the severe cramping and pain. It doesn't help that I give in to Stephen on the weekends, but I was pristine! I am trying these shorter workouts, but honestly, I did so much better with longer, steady state cardio. I want to keep the weights too, though, because I know I need the strength training. I just don't want to work out 7 days a week! I need a day off!

I may just change up my cardio to the longer Cathe ones until I get my running back to around 5-8 miles regularly. I should be at 3-5 by spring once I start running again. I was going to start that this week, but we had snow and ice last night and rain tomorrow even though we're warming up to 50s tomorrow. Rats! I'll start next week. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.

I really wanted to push through this XTrain program for the full 90 days. I love the workouts, but I just don't think the cardio is long enough for me. All Out HIIT is 49 minutes with the core segment and only 36 or so without. Even though it's more intense, I don't have the endurance right now to get the benefit of it I think. Time to break out the IMAXes and Cardio Fusion, Step, Jump and Pump, etc. I'll keep the strength workouts and the leg workouts, but change the regular cardio days. I love Hard Strikes though! Maybe I'll keep that one and add on rounds of KPC and Kick Max or maybe even my Ilaria KB workouts. We shall see . . .

I would never go on a water fast! I was kidding about that! It was just an expression of frustration. I don't think I'm getting enough coconut oil. I use it on my face and in my hair every day, but don't ingest it all the time. I should put some in every smoothie in the morning.

I hate yoga.

Alisha - Don't sweat the treat! At least you only do that once in a while and you eat well the rest of the time!

Jane - Great workout! Hope your boo-boos heal quickly! I hope your mom's scan went well! Aloe is great stuff! You can even eat it! People put it in their smoothies and juices.

I'm doing pretty well, but have been lazy the last few days, again. Getting the butt in gear again tomorrow. I ran out of greens and had to stop for some tonight and I signed up for a pre-calculus class through Coursera and that started, so I had to start some lessons. I have 30 more to do before Saturday! That's all just for week 1! Ugh. What was I thinking?

Have a great night! Thanks for the support and ideas! Hey! I guess I could do the short cardio and just tack on some Zumba after . . . hmmmmm . ..

Tricia- You definitely need a day off. Shorter workouts don't cut it for me either. I agree: I think your birth control is responsible. I won't run in ice either, its too dangerous. Sometimes I will select a fun short workout and pair it with some HI/Lo or a kick box segment to make the workout long enough and I still get the fun stuff too. Adding on your Illaria workout sounds like the way to go. Pre-calculus?????? Is this just to make sure that you speak Stephen's language??

Jane- I hope that your knees are better. To prevent 'tightness' just apply some vit. e oil directly to the wound, it worked great on my childhood burn (over most of my body), and it reduces scarring. No, you are definitely 'Awesome!'

I'm doing 30 min. from 10 Min. Solution Dance Off Belly Fat and 20 min. from Kathy's Hi/Lo Timesaver later this afternoon. I have to meet with another guy to give us an estimate for the window. I expect to spend the day doing data entry, washing laundry, and doing the dishes.

There will be a new thread tomorrow.

Catch ya' later!

Alisha

I totally blew off yesterday. It was windy and dark and I thought it would be dangerous to go for a run (well...every run is dangerous for me). In any case I didn't run and didn't do anything else. That is rare for me but I guess I just needed the rest.

Tonight will be my run of 3 miles.

Alisha ~ Thanks for the Vitamin E tip! And for the awesome-ness. I think you are pretty awesome as well.

Don't spend too much time on that laundry. :)

Hi Tricia ~ I hope you find what works for weight loss. It's a very delicate balance and other forces just throw things out of whack. I think I found my balance at least for now. When I lost 40 pounds I did all cardio and no weights. My eating wasn't pristine but it was better than what it was (all junk). I eat way better now and I love using heavy weights and the workouts that I do. Things are going to get way tougher after my 1/2 marathon next month. I'm going to work on my endurance.
