Is this true about STS?

They use a mixture of re-utilized footage and new footage for each workout, building on the workouts that have gone before. But each one is new to STS (in other words, the re-utilized footage is all from STS, not other Cathe workouts). I find that it actually helps me feel more comfortable with each new workout, given that you don't do the same workout over and over the way you would with a normal workout DVD, which normally allows you to feel comfortable with a particular workout.

Parts of it are re used but it is not like they shot 50 sceences and then jumbled them up in a bunch of different orders to get the discs.

I think she is simplifying it a great deal (probably because she's reviewing it before she's actually done it), Morningstar's description is much more accurate, there is both re-used and new footage for each workout. What she also fails to mention is that IT WORKS.

Janet,

I tried to read the actual article but the link did not work for me. It does work, and work well. I don't even really notice the reused footage because I am so challeneged by the workouts and really who cares anyway? As long as you like it and are seeing results that is what matters. One thing is for sure there is no other home program like STS. It blows p90x away!

OUCH!!! Her review really was negative IMO. I personally have not purchased STS but I do know w/o having it that it cannot even compare to P90X. She failed to mention how annoying Tony is!

I will buy STS eventually no matter what the reviews say. :D

I feel that the review was very biased especially since she has not actually done the workout. She states in her bio that she just loves pyramids, and that is all she wants to do. STS is much more than just pyramids and uses many weight lifting techniques to "shock" the body. I actually liked that there were some moves used over again, I knew what to expect then. When you are actually doing the workout you don't feel like you are re-doing the same old thing. It would have been a huge undertaking and giganitic editing job if Cathe had done each session in it's entirety (36 hours of filming plus anytime for errors). I think that when she says that she will only do Meso 2 she has missed the point of what STS is trying to do.

Personally, I am really enjoying STS and feel like it's like having my own personal trainer. I'm having some great results too!
Just my opinion, everyone is entitled to theirs but I think you should actually do the program before you make comments.

This is true, sitting on your couch watching it and actually DOING it are two very different things. Of course you're going to notice every little thing when you're just sitting there watching. I can't speak for anyone else but when I was doing STS I was so busy concentrating on the lifting that I didn't really notice anything else...the new background people, the music, etc. I was just focused on trying to do all my reps with my target weight, everything else kinda fades into the background.

BTW, I finished STS a few weeks ago and was so pleased with my results I'll be doing it again starting Monday.

I have such a hard time listening to people who "review" things without even watching, listening or trying them out completely first! How can anyone know whether STS is any good or not if they haven't done the workout from beginning to end? Or anything else for that matter?

Sheesh!

This article says that it's always the same footage but mixed up? Is this true? I think the warm up and stretch are, which is fine

But is the actual workout just a mix of the same footage?

Here is an updated link to the blog mentioned above:

http://aerobicgirl-homefitness.blogspot.com/2009/02/cathes-sts-mesocycle-1-review.html

Though I really think that this blog is not worth reading, the woman who wrote the "review" is so poorly informed that there is very little point to reading what she has to say.

"...But the entire Mesocycle 1 which consists of 12 dvd's are actually just 4 workouts. Yes, you got it right. The entire 4 Chest, Shoulder's and Biceps DVDs all have the same warm-up and the same footage. Cathe did change some exercises and added in some new exercises but its basically the same stuff...."

I don't think anyone who has done STS mesocycle 1 would say that it is just 4 workouts (and doesn't she mean 3 anyway?)

"Cathe doesn't say what size weights she is using which is too bad. I like that part of her older workouts."

How can she have read anything about STS and NOT learned about the 1 RM? Cathe specifically says that she doesn't mention what weight she is lifting because this is about what WE can lift.

"The case is really hard to get the DVDs out and I feel like they are going to break the DVDss"

This is just silly.

"There is no nutritional information in the booklet and Its kind of overwhelming and confusing because it said that you use the Mesocycle in a 3 day split but then it said you can do upper and lower body in consecutive days and add cardio either on non weighted days or on the days you do weights. I wasn't sure what she meant by that"

Overwhelming and confusing? Sounds pretty straight forward to me.

I know I am partly being defensive of Cathe and the amazing STS program, but even taking that into account, I am underwhelmed by the blog (I can't even call it a review, maybe preview?)

That's my two cents.

Yes it is true but like others have said there are new footage. The only thing that I did notice is in Meso 3 the upper body is the same in the 4 weeks but don't forget Cathe did this for a reason because in week 4 your suppose to be 5% stronger then week 2. So the program is laid out for you with no guessing.

I just had to point out that the author of the article needs to learn the proper usage of the words "their" and "there".
I realize this has nothing to do with working out but it the English minor in me could not resist.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of a workout, but let me focus on and answer your question that is based on information you read that is simply not accurate. To say that STS only uses new footage for 4 out of every 12 workouts is false. Yes, we do reuse some footage throughout STS and we advertised that fact before and during the presale, so this is not new news and shouldn't surprise anyone. What the article doesn't report correctly is the amount of footage that is reused. Around 60 to 70%of the footage in STS is new, not 33% as the post claims. A lot lot of the footage that is redone contains different camera angles and is seamed so perfectly that it is impossible to tell most of the time that it is repeat footage from another section. It may surprise you, but it is many times more expensive and difficult to seamlessly reuse footage than to film new footage of the same exercise. We do this only to save wear and tear on Cathe and the crew. Besides, filming new footage would look exactly the same as the footage that was reused - so why do it?

You should know that STS uses over 150 different exercises (more than any other program on the market today) and a variety of exercise techniques throughout its program. Yes, we do reuse exercises as does any good exercise program. I personally don't know of any good personal trainers that don't reuse exercises in a 90 day program. You want variety in every workout routine, but you also need familiarity and you want to reuse you core base exercises that are the most effective exercises. This is exactly what we do in STS.

I think you will find STS to be the most thorough and advanced strength training workout program on the market today. STS was filmed and edited at a much higher level than any other workout on DVD and we will let its filming quality and user results speak for themselves.

The end....
I have P90X and I'm doing STS and I can tell you that it is no comparable at all.
I open the link that some one post, but I don't want to loose my time reading no sense. Besides I almost done with the program,I love it,I see results,I love watching Cathe every day in my garage.... I notice that in some videos Cathe said the same thing as she did last one, but who cares I'm so busy cleaning the sweat of my face that I can only think of how good I'm going to look in my jeans....

Good luck every one..
Keep working out hard...

Oooookay...

The "reviewer" obviously ignored the muscle confusion principle... same exercises mixed around and intercepted by new ones... I wonder what she'd write IF she had actually followed the program... hmmm....

Besides, I think that editing the same exercise to appear as a back-off set or a 8/7/6 rep when it's actually a 12 rep takes some serious "Hollywood" editing.

It's one thing to do the same workout on a regular basis and another (and more fun I believe) to add variety to that workout by adding exercises or rearranging the exercise order.

For those of us who had spent time in gyms in the past, how often did we have our trainer change our workout regime completely?... From what I recall it was one or two exercises added or substituted every month or so or when we hit plateaus. Exactly what Cathe does in the STS series.

Cathe was pretty clear on the structure of STS and the sequences shot. She was also VERY clear on the weight load we should use and her not "disclosing" what weight load she is using.

So, my advice is: before you start reviewing a workout DVD sitting on your couch and playing with your remote control get your workout clothes, gloves and trainers on and DO IT! And, please, please, read what the creators have to say about it... ;)

Cathe is hardly a person who would choose the easy way when putting out a new DVD series. Don't you agree?

Chris.

P.S. I've given my 2c on P90X in the past (not a favorite of mine by any aspect - too repetitive and narcissistic by my standards, what you get mostly at a gym with people showing off how many pull ups or push ups they can do...) but it is unfair to compare a 12-disc set to a 41-disc set. Guess who put more thought into their program?... ;)

oups! I did not mean to create that

I was thinking about buying it and I went to see reviews... that's all

Thx for all the info. I trust you guys most since you have used it and you are Cathe's Fans and I am 100% Cathe Fan

I only workout with Cathe anyways

I have P90X, I don' like. Rarely I use Jari Love

But 99% of the time, I use Cathe!

I wasn't certain about STS because I felt I wanted more cardio DVD's but now with the new serie cardio shock, it makes sens to get STS. it's a complete program.

I can't afford it right now and I am working on different routines. when STS cardio comes out, I will buy the whole thing. Both STS... hopefully I would afford it then.

I love Cathe... I never wanted to create that. I come in this forum almost everyday. I talk about Cathe all the time. I am a Cathe fan! Just letting you know. And you convinced me, I will get STS when the cardio STS comes out.

thx

Darine, I have been working out for 25 years, been doing videos for 14 years, and STS is top notch. I have just finished the third week of Meso 3 5 minutes ago, and I absolutely cannot believe how much weight I am lifting. It is crazy, and great!
