Is there a quick fix for drooping eyelids?

I'm not ready to go under the knife yet. My eyelids don't really look bad (yet). The problem is eyeliner--less than 30 seconds after I put it on I'm wearing it on my eyebrows instead of my lids. Mascara issues too--my lashes leave spots on my brows.

I'm too young & poor for the eyelift, plus I think it's too soon. I was thinking about permanent eyeliner, but even that looks pretty expensive. I saw one cost so far that was $600+--might as well just get the surgery for that price.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me? Some kind of quick, temporary fix until it's time for an eyelift?

I wish I could offer up something, but all I can do is empathize. My lids are doing relatively well, but I've noticed that the make-up on my right eyelid is starting to travel up into the crease.

And my hair is falling out at an alarming rate. Ah, a sign of things to come.

Oh, maybe I can help you with that. Are you taking any hair growth supplements? Biotin is great--I take 5000 mcgs daily (I think, maybe mgs, I always get them mixed up ), also a collagen supplement, & MSM. I've been really proactive about this b/c you could see my mom's scalp by the time she was 40, so I started w/all the supplements in my early 30s.

I escaped her thinning hair, but did inherit her dimples on my butt.

Maybe I should've called this the "getting old sucks" thread. Except I think I've had a couple of those before. :D

I look into that, thanks! :) My hair did this 2 times before, both right after delivering the babies. I believe I read it had something to do with a massive hormone shift, so I wasn't too worried about it then.

No babies this time though. I feel fantastic otherwise, so I can't imagine it's my thyroid. I fear it's pre-menopause rearing its ugly head again. Boo!

Have you consulted with a make up person, Laura? Maybe you should change your eyeliner/mascara. I have deep set eyes so my eyelashes always touch my brow but they don't spot. I can't remember what I use offhand - but it's cheap stuff. My eyeliner is cheap too and I don't have a problem with it either.

The other thought is if you are putting on lotion or eyecream that will grab the make up too. Maybe try switching that up. ?

Laura, no advice, just wanted to jump on the wagon. I've been complaining about this for the past year. Mine is a combination of genetics-my dad has really baggy eyelids- and age-I'll be 37 in January. I see pictures of myself and boy, do I look old and tired!:( I'd love to have and eyelid lift but with 3 girls at home, I don't think it'll ever be in our budget. I guess I better start learning how to age gracefully!

Cindi, I think I've tried just about everything. I've been using Clinique's quickliner--a pencil--most of my life, but when I started losing it I tried liquid liners & OMG, what a PIA that stuff is! It was a mess. Just a mess. I tried to sit for my eyes closed until it dried, but I never had the patience, so it just smudged & ran all over the place. I'm back to Clinique--it stays really well under my eyes, but nada on top.

Klaudia, I wish I could learn to age gracefully. There are only so many cosmetic procedures in the world before you're flat broke & being featured on some horror show on TLC.:D;)

I have the same issue because I have deep-set eyes and my eyelashes touch the area just under the eyebrows. The only mascara I can use which won't transfer is Clinique Lash Power. I love that it has a small brush, so it's easier to get each lash.

Instead of eyeliner, I use Bobbi Brown eye shadow. I dip a small eyeliner brush in a little water, then use it on the eyeshadow and apply to my upper and lower lids. I use a very light touch because a little goes a long way.

Also, pulling the front of your hair back tightly will give you a great lift to your forehead and eyes. It can break the hair though, and can look goofy with some styles.

Girl, if the liner is gone in 30 seconds, shadow would disappear in 10! Unless there's something really pasty out there. In which case I could wear it on my lids AND my brows. My hair is way too curly to pull it back tightly, but I know what you mean--when I wrap my hair in a towel after a shower it gives me an instant facelift.

I think I might be stuck w/this until I'm ready for surgery. :(

I was a makeup artist for Benefit cosmetics.....get a primer for your shadow and liner then seal your liner. Benefit sells Shelaqu (dont rember the spelling)

also face excersizes really do work and the forehead responds quickly for a great lift. Try the book yoga face

Laura, is it droopy eyelids or is a brow that's falling? Because if it's the brows falling a "brow lift" with botox may help. If it's truly your eyelids and if there's extra skin involved not much short of surgery will help.

I hear you! Ever since I can remember I've had heavier upper lid, although I've always gotten compliments on my eyes I hate them at times. I remember in my younger day's if over ate or had to much sodium my eyes looked like I've been bit up. Now that i'm in my early 40 I've notice that my right upper lid is drooping a little and I hate it so much I cover that eye with my side bangs, I don't know what I will do once the other eye starts to droop..and with 5 children I don't know if I will be able to afford eyelid surgery plus it's a delicate place for surgery I don't want to end up worst! Let me know if you find a sulution besides surgery. Good luck!

Hmm - I would try some other liners - definitely pencil, not too creamy of a formula. I use Loreal Voluminous mascara and have no problems with spots, flakes or any of that. I have to wash it off to get it off. You may want to try Laura Mercier cake eyeliner. They have a special brush. You moisten it and dab it in amoung your eyelashes, rather than line across the top. So the top stays clean, but looking at you, you look like you're wearing liner and your lashes look really full. They will teach you how to use it at the counter. It makes your eyes look huge and very bright and open when you it. (hmm - I need to dig mine out - haven't used it in a while).

I'm not sure that what you're describing sounds like droopy eyelids, but I used to have a problem where one eyelid drooped and the other didn't and it really bothered me. I got rid of the problem completely by using Neutrogena Visibly Firm Eye Cream with Active Copper. I've been using it for years now and the problem never came back. The price has doubled, and it's not always easy to find, but I do whatever is necessary to make sure I have some at all times.

Hi,

Whare or what different places do you pruchase yours? I would love to give it try! I remember when I first notice my eyelid drooping I thought I would give something else a try a product from Loreal and that's when I notice my eyelids where drooping out of nowhere I even whent to the dr I was afraid it might be something more serios but she didn't pay much attention to it she was chinese and said she new what I was going through. Anyway's I will never know if the product cause it or if it's just age! Thanks!

Laura...

I have naturally oily eyelids. ??? Whatever. It's the truth. I used to crease all the time, or stuff would slide all over my face/eyes/brows what have you.

I swear swear swear by Bobbi Brown shadow stick. I use the vanilla, pat it in, then just do a light dusting of either vanilla powder or you can just use pressed powder to set it. I almost had an aneurysm when they discontinued it, but they brought it right back because there was public outrage!

I also SWEAR by Chanel stylo yeux waterproof... that eyeliner will.not.budge. It's kind of a "grease" pencil if you will, but it has a baby sharpener hidden in the other end, so you can get a really sharp point if you like.

Just a few musings for ya. HTH!

Donna, I think this is the same thing as MAC's liner, which I've tried & it does seem to last longer (maybe 10 minutes as opposed to 30 seconds). Still rubs off though.

Breckgirl, I'll check out the Chanel. Pricey stuff, but it sounds interesting.

Nancy, I'll def. try the Neutrogena stuff too. I'm kind of a lotion & cream skeptic ever since reading Paula Begoun's book, but I just checked her website & she gave it very good reviews.

Thanks for all the recs ladies! I love this forum. :)

The weird thing is that I used to use Quickliner, and it would transfer easily. The wet shadow almost turns into a dry ink, or something. For me, it really lasts longer, and my eyelids are oilier than Saudi Arabia.

I have quite droopy eyelids as in you can barely see my eyeliner when my eyes are wide open.

I used to use pencils but have taken to Maybelline Ultra Liner which is waterproof (I wear contacts so waterproof mascara and eyeliner are pretty much a must since I constantly put drops in my eyes or take the contacts our to rinse them when I get something in my eye).

I put the liner on and that is when I brush my teeth so I can keep my eyes more closed while it dries. By the time I'm done brushing it is dry and I can open my eyes wide and full to the point where my eyelashes are touching the "drooped lids". Sounds ugly, but such is life.

To remove my waterproof mascara and eyeliner I use a drop of gel baby oil which helps moisturize at the same time. I do have very dry skin so it works for me. Then I use a warm moist washcloth to go over my face prior to adding my facial moisturizers.

Or after a sweatfest workout or multiple times of adding saline solution to my dry eyes most of my mascara and eyeliner is gone.

It is cheap and definitely worth a try Laura. Much cheaper than a lift which, at nearly 52 I have considered but have not taken the plunge yet. Perhaps I'll wait for your reviews ! :p ;)

Jacque, how long does it take to dry? I have problems w/the liquid:

1) it's flippin messy
2) my hand isn't steady enough to put it on right, & if you get it wrong it's even messier
3) I don't have the patience to let it dry
4) I'm always running late & don't have the time to let it dry

You'll have to wait at least 5 years for my review of the surgery. ;) I don't need it yet. I look OK--probably if you looked at me you wouldn't be able to tell the lids are drooping--it's the makeup I'm having trouble with.
