Instead of paper plates on puzzle mats, use..

plastic plates. I just cut the raised edges off so I had just the round disk part and it worked beautifully.

(now, when you say PLASTIC, you mean PLASTIC, right? Not styrofoam, not plastic-COATED paper plates, but PLASTIC???? Is that correct?)

Yep. No styrofoam. Just the regular plastic plates.
